Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle Will Be Sold As Premium Modern Classic

Image for reference. Credit – Neev MotorcyclesRoyal Enfield electric range will be offered in both domestic and international markets
As automotive industry transitions to an all-electric ecosystem, OEMs are working proactively to target this space. Among home-grown auto companies, Eicher Motors, the parent company of Royal Enfield, is working to develop a new range of electric motorcycles. As of now, Royal Enfield leads in middleweight motorcycle segment. Its portfolio comprises bestsellers such as Classic 350, Meteor 350, Bullet 350, Himalayan, and 650 twins (Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650).
    Eyes on future
In the company’s annual report, managing director Siddhartha Lal points to the increasing activity in electric vehicle segment. As this space is expected to witness exponential growth over the decade and beyond, Royal Enfield is developing its EV portfolio in a strategic manner.
Royal Enfield electric bike range will continue using the signature retro styling that can be seen on existing petrol-powered bikes. The company will be utilizing its capabilities in product development, production and distribution for developing its electric range. These new motorcycles will be in line with the company’s focus on reducing carbon emissions. They will also support on-going global efforts to better manage climate change.
As a complete shift to electric may take several years, Royal Enfield will continue to focus on improving its existing range of ICE-powered bikes. Those plans have been already put into action with Meteor 350 that was launched last year. Meteor 350 packs in a new engine and chassis, which have ensured superior performance and smoother rides.
Royal Enfield Electric – Private Modification
New-gen Classic 350 is also expected to be launched soon. It will share the same engine and chassis as that of Meteor 350. Other 350cc motorcycles will also be updated in the future.
Can Royal Enfield dominate electric segment?
Royal Enfield motorcycles currently command more than 80% market share in 200-500cc segment. The number is even higher if we consider only the 350cc space. Even though new products like Honda CB350, Jawa, and Benelli Imperiale 400 are available, Royal Enfield bikes continue to be ahead in terms of popularity and sales.
But can Royal Enfield continue its domination in electric segment? Well, the company certainly has the resources and expertise to make it possible. However, it will not be an easy task. That’s because EVs are a lot different from their petrol-powered counterparts. The company will have to work really hard to ensure that their electric motorcycles do not lose the core essence that makes brand ‘Royal Enfield’ so popular.
One also needs to consider the rise of startups in this space. Products like Revolt RV400 have already emerged bestsellers. These startups are expected to further solidify their position in the coming years. Creating something new that’s better that rival offerings will be another challenge for Royal Enfield in EV space. 2022 Volvo XC60, S60, S90, and V90 XC to Add 48-Volt Hybrid System

Certain 2022 Volvo models will add new 48-volt hybrid powertrains, badged B5 and B6.EPA ratings for the 2022 S60, XC60, S90, and V90 Cross Country show a boost in city fuel economy estimates. All models still use a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with either a turbocharger or a turbocharger and a supercharger.Volvo is aiming to boost fuel efficiency by bringing its 48-volt hybrid system to certain U.S. models for 2022. EPA ratings for the 2022 Volvo S60, S90, XC60, and V90 Cross Country show new B5 and B6 designations with slightly higher city fuel economy ratings than the nonhybrid T5 and T6 predecessors. the S60, for instance, rises from 23 mpg city to 26 mpg city, while the V90 Cross Country goes from 20 mpg city to 22 mpg city. These B5 and B6 powertrains already exist in other markets, and they use the same 2.0-liter inline-four found in all Volvo models in the U.S. The S60 and XC60 are offered as standard with the B5 powertrain, which has a turbocharged version of the 2.0-liter four, while there’s a more powerful B6 turbocharged and supercharged version of the engine available as an option on the XC60 and as standard in the larger S90 sedan and V90 Cross Country wagon.

Volvo has yet to release detailed U.S. specs for this new powertrain, but the horsepower ratings for the hybridized versions of these engines may change compared with the current models. Going by European specs, the B5 could have 247 horsepower and the B6 could have 295 horsepower, compared with 250 horsepower and 316 horsepower for the existing T5 and T6 models.Look for more info to come as Volvo releases U.S.-specific details for these new B5 and B6 designations. For now, it appears that the XC40 and XC90 SUVs and the V60 Cross Country wagon won’t receive the 48-volt system yet.

Nikola EV Startup's Former Chairman Charged with Defrauding Investors

Trevor Milton, who founded and then served as executive chairman at EV startup Nikola, was indicted Thursday morning by the U.S. Department of Justice on three counts of criminal fraud.Prosecutors allege that Milton made false and misleading statements to investors about the abilities and technology of the company’s products, allegedly cheating investors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.Nikola distanced itself from the indictment, which is only directed at Milton, and said that it is still aiming to start production of its Tre cab-over electric truck this year. The founder and former executive chairman of electric truck startup Nikola, Trevor Milton, has been indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice on three counts of criminal fraud for making false and misleading statements to investors. The charges, brought by the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, follow a year of turmoil for Milton, who resigned from the company in September 2020.A year ago, things were looking good for Nikola. The company was drumming up hype about its Badger pickup (pictured above), which was to be sold with electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains, and was about to announce a partnership with General Motors, with GM engineering and assembling the Badger and taking a stake in Nikola. Soon after, however, a short seller called Hindenburg Research released a report accusing Nikola of fraud and specifically accusing Milton of lying about the technology and capabilities of Nikola’s vehicles. The fallout from the report saw Milton resign and GM back partly out of the deal, saying in November that it would only supply the fuel cells for the Badger.

According to the indictment, from November 2019 until his resignation in September 2020, Milton allegedly deceived investors into buying Nikola shares by making untruthful statements regarding the company’s products and underlying technology. Following the indictment, Nikola released a statement clarifying that “today’s government actions are against Mr. Milton individually, and not against the company” and that “Nikola has cooperated with the government throughout the course of its inquiry.”

    Nikola

Last November, Nikola confirmed that it had received grand jury subpoenas from the Department of Justice regarding the fraud allegations, and in February, after an external review by a law firm, the company admitted that both it and Milton had made partially or completely inaccurate statements. Prosecutors in the indictment claim these false statements caused individual investors in Nikola to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars. Milton had previously tweeted that he would stand up against “false allegations” before deleting his Twitter account in September of last year and vanishing from the public eye. In its statement, Nikola said it is “focused on delivering Nikola Tre battery-electric trucks later this year.” The Tre is a cab-over semi truck that Nikola claims will have a 753.0-kWh battery and 350 miles of range, with production to begin this year and a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain joining the lineup in 2023. Nikola’s stock prices dropped 10 percent in pre-market trading today following news of the indictment.

Mitsubishi Confirms New Outlander Plug-In Hybrid Arriving in 2022

The new Mitsubishi Outlander will again have a plug-in-hybrid version.Unlike the current Outlander PHEV, the new model will have a third-row seat. The Outlander PHEV will arrive in the U.S. in the second half of calendar-year 2022, likely as a 2023 model.Mitsubishi is currently selling the previous-generation Outlander plug-in hybrid alongside the redesigned nonhybrid 2022 Outlander, but that will change next year when a PHEV version based on the new model arrives in the U.S. Mitsubishi shared two photos of the new hybrid and shared a few tidbits of information about this new model, saying that it will go on sale in the U.S. in the second half of 2022.

    Mitsubishi

The new Outlander hybrid’s gas-electric powertrain will have a more powerful electric motor and a larger battery capacity, which should give it more electric driving range than the current car’s EPA rating of 24 miles on battery power. Mitsubishi also says that the packaging of the new platform allows for a third-row seat in the hybrid model, which gives it the same seven-passenger seating capacity as the nonhybrid.

It’s unclear if the Outlander’s corporate cousin, the Nissan Rogue, will also gain a plug-in-hybrid variant. The two models currently share a platform and a powertrain, but Nissan has not announced any plans for a Rogue hybrid. Other compact-crossover rivals have added plug-in-hybrid models recently including the Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape.

Jawa 500cc Adventure Motorcycle Debuts As A Rebadged Bristol Venturi 500

Jawa 500cc Adventure Motorcycle. Hat tip to Mahindra Mojo Riders Club.Neither the Jawa branded adventure bike nor its scrambler sibling will be launched in India
A few days back images of a scrambler wearing a Jawa branding had gone viral in the motorcycling community. This Jawa branded 500cc motorcycle was essentially a rebadged Bristol Veloce 500. Bristol is a Philippines based motorcycle manufacturer which has inked some sort of a deal with Jawa, the original brand from Czech Republic.
This bike has no relation with the Jawa motorcycles made and sold in India by Classic Legends, a Mahindra & Mahindra backed entity. The Indian company bought the rights of the Jawa brand in India and launched its first motorcycle in 2018. The bikemaker currently has three products that are exclusively manufactured in India. These are Jawa, Forty-Two and Perak.
Now, coming back to the original Czech entity, Jawa is looking to expand its footprints across Europe and hence will be extending its lineup by introducing new models in the near future. Another such model is Bristol Venturi 500, which has also been launched in Lithuania, Europe. Venturi is an adventure bike and is based on the same architecture and engine as Veloce 500.
    Design
The latest images shared by Jawa Lithuania, show both the adventure bike and its scrambler sibling standing side by side to each other. While Jawa calls its version of the scrambler as ‘RVR 500’, the adventure tourer is likely to be christened as ‘RVM 500’ as inscribed on the bike’s fuel tank. Both bikes apart from the frame and engine share a lot in common in terms of features and design.
Jawa 500cc Adventure Motorcycle. Image – Jawa Lithuania
RVM 500 looks nearly identical to Venturi 500 and only differs in the livery and decals. It gets a traditional beak and tall windscreen upfront as in contemporary adventure motorcycles. The front end of the bike wears a familiar look to BMW G310GS. It flaunts a V-shaped headlamp and a muscular fuel tank upfront while the tail section gets a luggage mounting rack and rear tyre hugger.
    Jawa 500cc Adventure Motorcycle
Unlike Veloce 500, RVM 500 gets split-style seating and the dual exhaust pipes are housed onto a single canister. The adventure bike, however, rides on the exactly same 18-inch front and 16-inch rear wire-spoked rims shod by Metzeler Tubeless tyres with a block pattern. Both motorcycles even get a similar handlebar.
    Mechanical Specifications
Diving deep into its specifics, RVM 500 is underpinned by a dual-beam, Diamond shape steel frame that is suspended on inverted telescopic forks at front and a mono-shock at rear from KYB. Braking duties are handled by dual discs up front and a single disc at rear which are assisted by a dual-channel ABS from Nissin. Other features include a fully digital instrument console and a USB charging port.
Jawa Europe also has the India-made Jawa Classic on sale
RVM 500 adventure bike will be powered by the same 471cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine as offered in Veloce 500. This motor pumps out 47 bhp at 8,500rpm and a peak torque of 43 Nm at 6,500rpm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Internationally this bike competes against the likes of Benelli TRK 502 and Honda CB500X. More

As part of the strategy to expand its India portfolio, Benelli has launched 502C today. Later this year, more Benelli bikes are planned to be launched in India such as TNT 600, 302R, 302S, and Leoncino 250.
    Benelli 502c design and features
Looking at the bike’s core silhouette, it appears to have derived inspiration from Ducati Diavel. Owing to its sinewy profile, the bike has a dominating road presence. The bike’s aggressive character can be seen in its sculpted body lines, exposed steel trellis frame, and double barrel stainless exhaust pipes. 502c is equipped with tall handlebars and forward-set foot pegs, which ensure a comfortable riding stance.
Other key features include LED headlamp with DRL, radiator grille, engine guard, single price saddle, and raised tail section. Fuel tank is a curvy, elongated unit that can hold 21 litres of fuel. The bike sports a blacked out look, as is evident in the blacked out engine, frame, side panels and wheels.
    Benelli 502C Cruiser
Benelli 502c is expected to be offered in two colour options. Talking about features, the bike gets a fully digital instrument console. It displays a range of information such as speed, rpm, gear indicator, odometer, trip meter, and fuel gauge.
    Benelli 502c engine
Powering Benelli 502c will be the same engine currently in use with Leoncino 500 and TRK 502. The 500cc, parallel-twin, liquid cooled motor is capable of generating 47.5 ps of max power at 8500 rpm and 46 Nm of peak torque at 6000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
Suspension system comprises upside down telescopic fork at the front and coil spring oil damped rear suspension. The bike is equipped with disc brakes at both ends; 280 mm dual discs at the front and 240 mm single disc at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is offered as standard.
    Benelli 502c price
In the company’s line-up, 502c will be positioned above Leoncino 500. BS6 Leoncino was launched earlier this year in February at a starting price of Rs 4.59 lakh. However, with the price hike in June, Leoncino now retails at Rs 4.70 lakh. Talking about 502c, the cruiser is just under the Rs 5 lakh mark. More
