476-HP Polestar 2 Prototype Gives the EV a Performance Upgrade

A Polestar 2 prototype has been revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, showing up with 68 additional ponies for a total of 476 horsepower. The experimental car swipes the Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires and Akebono front brakes from the $156,500 Polestar 1 and the carbon-fiber front strut bar from the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered. The Öhlins dampers are 30 percent stiffer on the prototype, and Polestar has also tighened the springs by 80 percent up front and 40 percent in back. With a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.1 seconds and 100 mph arriving in 10.5 seconds in our testing, the Polestar 2 is no slouch. Still, Polestar decided to surprise us by bringing an upgraded performance-oriented prototype of its electric hatchback to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

    Polestar

Built on the long range, dual-motor version of the 2, the two motors now churn out a combined 476 horsepower in this example, 68 horsepower more than the standard car. The 2 also gains some attitude thanks to a slightly wider track and a ride height about an inch lower. Under widened fender flares sit 275/30R-21 Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires from the $156,500 Polestar 1, and the prototype also borrows the Polestar 1’s six-piston Akebono front brakes.

This version of the Polestar 2 should also be nimbler, with the springs stiffened by 80 percent up front and 40 percent at the rear and the Öhlins dampers tightened by 30 percent. The 2 prototype also borrows from the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered, adding its carbon-fiber front suspension strut bar, with a custom rear strut bar built to complement it. Visual changes are minor. Along with the more aggressive stance, there are redesigned front and rear bumpers, and the car is painted in Snow Matte with a Magnesium Matte racing stripe and the number 2 emblazoned on the hood. Polestar suggests that this prototype is just an engineering exercise, but it wouldn’t be too surprising to see some of these updates on a production car down the road.

Electric Dodge Muscle Car Will Arrive in 2024

Dodge will launch an electric muscle car in 2024 under what it’s calling eMuscle. The new Dodge EV will use one of Stellantis’ dedicated electric vehicle platforms providing up to 500 miles of range. We’ll know more about the new electric muscle car soon, and it’s not yet clear if it’s an electric version of the Charger or Challenger. This is a developing story. We will add more information as it becomes available.Dodge announced that it will soon offer an electric muscle car under what it’s calling eMuscle. The new Dodge EV will launch in 2024, and the Detroit-based automaker gave us a look at what the new car’s front end could look like, and it looks appropriately retro.

    Dodge

It’s not yet clear if this new Dodge EV will be an electric version of the two-door Challenger or four-door Charger. Dodge placed the Fratzog logo (pictured), which it used in the 1960s and ’70s, on the car’s grille, and Dodge says that using it is “a nod to the future, which will bring about another great automotive era – the era of the electrified muscle car.”

Stellantis, Dodge’s parent company, announced that it has four dedicated electric vehicle platforms, and three are unibody constructions offering 300 to 500 miles of driving range. We expect the new electric muscle car to use its STLA large platform, which promises up to 500 miles of range. Look for more details on Dodge’s electric future soon, and we could also see hybrid models added to the automaker’s lineup as well. Jeep and Ram have also announced their electrification plans today.

315-HP VW Golf R Estate Wagon Serves Performance, Practicality, and a Drift Mode

Volkswagen has released a station-wagon version of the Volkswagen Golf R, which uses the same 315-hp turbocharged inline-four as the hatch. The Estate reaches 62 mph in a claimed 4.9 seconds. With the R Performance package, which also adds a Drift mode, VW says top speed reaches 168 mph. The Golf R Estate is only for the Europe market, where it will cost the equivalent of $60,835.In the United States, where crossovers currently reign supreme, the performance station-wagon market is restricted to the top-end models, with the 591-hp Audi RS6 Avant and the 603-hp Mercedes-AMG E63 S wagon as the only two options. Over in Europe, however, there’s a breadth of sporty wagons, also known as estates, and the latest addition joins the lower end of the spectrum. Meet the Volkswagen Golf R Estate, which is essentially a longer version of the Golf R hatchback we drifted through the snow in earlier this year.

    Volkswagen

The new wagon utilizes the same powertrain, a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four producing a healthy 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque routed through the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, which includes torque vectoring. Volkswagen says this can get the Golf R Estate to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds, two-tenths behind the lighter hatchback. The only transmission choice is a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The car can also be specced with the R Performance package, which adds two drive modes—Drift, for your tire-shredding needs, and Special, set up for track driving—and increases the top speed by 13 mph to 168 mph.

    Volkswagen

But it’s not only fun; the Golf R Estate is a hugely practical vehicle. With the rear seats down, the wagon can pack in nearly 60 cubic feet of luggage; in two-row configuration, VW says the cargo volume is 21.6 cubic feet. The Golf R Estate can also be ordered with a trailer hitch, allowing the speedy wagon to tow more than 4000 pounds. Sales begin in Europe this month starting at the equivalent of $60,835. Americans will have to make do with the Golf R hatchback, which should provide plenty of fun when it goes on sale later this year.

Bajaj Dominar 400 Touring Version Spied Inside Company Plant In Pune

Image – IamaBikerBajaj recently announced a huge price cut for the Dominar 250 Range – No such announcement for Dominar 400
Bajaj, like most other auto manufacturers, is currently on a spree to increase prices of its products. After recently hiking the prices of the Pulsar range of motorcycles, the homegrown bikemaker has now updated the prices of its Dominar 250. But instead of increasing, they have reduced the price by as much as Rs 17k approx.
    Dominar Revised Prices
This is the third price revision that Dominar 250 has recorded this year after the first increment in January. After the last price revision, Dominar 250 and Dominar 400 were available at Rs 1.70 lakh and Rs 2.02 lakh respectively (both prices ex-showroom). Now after the price reduction of Dominar 250, its price is now slashed to 1.54 lakh. No such luck if you are planning to buy Dominar 400.
Apart from the change in price, there have been no changes as far as design or performance is concerned. What has changed is that the number of colour options on offer has now reduced to 2, instead of 4 for the Dominar 250. D250 is now only offered with Red or Black colours.
    Dominar 400 Touring Edition
Latest spy shots shared by IamaBiker show the Dominar 400 updated with touring accessories. These spy shots were clicked inside Bajaj Auto’s Pune plant where they also have a test track. As per these spy photos, Dominar 400 will get larger flyscreen, knuckle guards finished in body colour while upper part which is bolted on, is finished in same black plastic as the flyscreen.
    Bajaj Dominar 400 Touring Edition
It is likely that these are optional additions that Bajaj is planning to launch for their customers. If that is the case, it is likely that existing buyers of both Dominar 250 and Dominar 400 will be able to install these. If Bajaj is planning to launch this as a special Dominar Touring edition, than these accessories will be exclusive to this edition only.
    Mechanical Specs
Moving to specifications, Dominar 400 is powered by the same 373.3cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine that also powers KTM 390 range of motorcycles. This motor kicks out 39.4 bhp at 8,650rpm and 35 Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm while being paired with a six-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch.
Dominar 250, on the other hand, shares its powertrain with KTM 250 and Husqvarna 250 series of motorcycles. This 248cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit is capable of generating 26.6 bhp at 8,500rpm and a peak torque of 23.5Nm at 6,500rpmThis motor is also mated to the same 6-speed gearbox as its 400cc sibling.
Both motorcycles also share the same beam type perimeter frame, however, suspension setup is slightly different. While Dominar 250 uses telescopic forks at front, Dominar 400 gets USD forks at front from the KTM range. Rear suspension of both models comprise a mono-shock unit. Stopping duties on both bikes are handled by disc brakes on both wheels assisted by dual-channel ABS as standard. Bajaj also recently updated the prices of its Pulsar range of motorcycles.

Jawa Motorcycles Price Increase July 2021 – Jawa, Jawa 42, Perak

Jawa MotorcyclesThis is the second price hike announced by the company in 2021 – Last one was in January
Due to rising input costs, several two-wheeler manufacturers have announced price hikes this year. Jawa joins the list with prices of its motorcycles increased in the range of Rs 7,200 to Rs 8,700. The exact figure will be based on the model and variant.
Customers who book their Jawa motorcycle from July 8 (today) onwards will have to pay as per the revised pricing. The news was reported by Car And Bike, a Mahindra owned automotive news website. Mahindra also owns Jawa via their venture Classic Legends.
Jawa had increased prices of all its motorcycles earlier this year in January as well. At that time, a single rate price hike of Rs 2,987 was applied to all models and variants. Later in February, the company had launched 2021 Jawa 42. It came with cosmetic updates, new colour options, new range of accessories and a retuned engine that delivers slightly more power. 2021 Jawa 42 was launched at an increased price of Rs 1.84 lakh (ex-showroom).
    No updates
Latest hike in prices of Jawa motorcycles is primarily due to increase in cost of raw materials. All motorcycles will be largely the same as earlier. However, Jawa is offering a helmet to its new customers. This is expected to provide some relief to customers who will be required to pay the higher prices. But considering that helmet rule has been strictly implemented and most people already have one, the usefulness of free helmet scheme seems uncertain.
    Jawa Price Hike July 2021
    Jawa motorcycles specs
Jawa and Jawa 42 are powered by a 293cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled, DOHC engine that is capable of generating 27.33 ps of max power and 27.02 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a constant mesh 6-speed transmission. The twins utilize a double cradle frame. Suspension setup comprises telescopic hydraulic front forks and gas canister type twin hydraulic suspension at the rear.
Standard variants are offered with front disc brake and rear drum brake, integrated with single channel ABS. Customers have the option to choose disc brakes at both ends, which will be coupled with dual channel ABS.
Talking about bobber-styled Jawa Perak, the motorcycle is powered by a 334cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled motor that generates 30.64 ps and 32.74 Nm. It is mated to a constant mesh 6-speed transmission. Perak has double cradle tubular frame with telescopic front forks and 7-step adjustable monoshock rear suspension. Braking duties are performed by 280mm and 240mm disc at the front and rear, respectively. Dual-channel ABS is offered as standard.
To boost sales further, Jawa is working aggressively to expand its dealer network. By August 2021, Jawa dealerships would have grown to 275. By end of this fiscal, Jawa aims to increase the total number of dealerships to more than 500.
