Volkswagen Boss Confirms ID.8 Electric SUV Is Coming

Volkswagen’s Herbert Diess has confirmed that VW will roll out an ID.8 electric SUV.The VW ID.8 will be comparable to the mid-size VW Atlas. Details are minimal, but it’s expected to ride on the scalable MEB platform that underpins the rest of the Volkswagen EV lineup.During a presentation on future plans, Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess confirmed that Volkswagen will introduce an Atlas-sized electric crossover under the ID banner. It was expected that Volkswagen would eventually release a mid-size crossover with a battery-electric powertrain, a move that will help further flesh out the Volkswagen battery-electric portfolio.

The Atlas made its debut only a few short years ago, in 2017, in an effort to capitalize on the growing demand for crossovers in the United States and abroad. That formula has easily translated to the growing battery-electric market, as buyers are gravitating toward crossovers even in the EV space. Volkswagen has been aggressively expanding its EV representation with new products across segments.

Right now, there’s nothing concrete released about the ID.8. It will more than likely ride on the Volkswagen MEB platform that underpins other electric VW products. And though nothing is known yet about expected range or output, a look at the production-ready ID.4 gives a sense of what Volkswagen is trying to do with its EV models. While considerably smaller, the ID.4 sports 250 miles of range and 201 horsepower.VW also has yet to reveal a timeline for the ID.8’s debut—or confirm that the ID.8 will even be available in North America. With the continued demand for three-row crossovers in the U.S., it seems like an obvious move, though.

GMC Confirms Second Electric Pickup to Accompany Hummer EV

GMC confirmed it will build a second full-size electric pickup truck. We think it will be closely related to the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV.It will likely be cheaper and less powerful than the GMC Hummer EV.Chevy recently announced an electric version of the Silverado pickup truck, so we should’ve known that a GMC version wasn’t too far behind. GMC vice president Duncan Aldred confirmed yesterday on a conference call that this is indeed the case, sharing that GMC will launch a second full-size electric pickup truck as a follow-up to the Hummer EV.

While the Hummer is an expensive, powerful, off-road-capable halo model, we get the impression that the second GMC electric truck will be closer in scope to the more mainstream Sierra 1500 gas trucks. It’s likely to share many components with the Silverado EV, with styling being the major differentiator between the two trucks.GM’s Ultium battery packs will be found underneath, with powertrain configurations possibly including one-, two-, or three-motor options. Chevy has claimed a driving range of up to 400 miles for the electric Silverado, and we can expect similar claims for the GMC truck.GMC didn’t share any information on pricing, but we have to assume that this unnamed pickup will be significantly less expensive than the Hummer, which starts at $79,995 for the least expensive version set to arrive in 2024. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is set to offer multiple variants starting under $60,000 and we can assume that GM will follow that lead with the Silverado EV and the GMC pickup in order to be competitive.Timing for this GMC electric truck is unclear at this point, but we think it will arrive in either 2023 or 2024, around the same time as the Silverado EV. We should learn more in the near-term before the full truck is revealed, including the GMC model’s nameplate.

2021 Yamaha FZ25 MotoGP EditionYamaha FZ25 competes against naked quarter-litre motorcycles such as Suzuki Gixxer 250, Bajaj Dominar 250 and KTM 250 Duke
Yamaha recently introduced its exhilarating ‘The Call of the Blue’ campaign under which prices of FZ25 were reduced significantly. Now, as a continuation to that campaign, the Japanese bikemaker has launched a special edition model of the quarter-litre offering. Called FZ25 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition, this limited-run model comes at a price of Rs 1,36,800/- (ex-showroom).
The new variant is slotted in between the standard FZ25 and the top-spec FZS 25. While it will be a limited edition model, the exact number of production units to be sold is not yet confirmed. The quarter-litre naked streetfighter is mechanically identical to the standard FZ225 and only boasts cosmetic upgrades.
    MotoGP Edition Cosmetic Upgrades
FZ25 MotoGP Edition wears Yamaha M1’s racing livery which features the signature Yamaha MotoGP branding in addition to Yamaha Blue, Eneos, and Monster Energy decals on the tank shrouds, fuel tank, and side panels. This signifies the company’s racing background. The additional aesthetic enhancements come at a premium of over Rs 3,000 over the standard FZ25 which is currently priced at Rs 1,35,376 (ex-showroom).
Speaking at the launch of the new model, Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha India said, “The spirit of The Call of the Blue is born from Yamaha’s Racing DNA. This year our performance in MotoGP has been exceptional. Till now we are #1 in all three Standings – Team, Constructor and Rider.”
    2021 Yamaha FZ25 MotoGP Edition
The Japanese manufacturer has launched this special edition model to mark its successful run in the current MotoGP season so far. Hence, Yamaha India has also made it clear that it will be launching MotoGP editions of its other models as well.
    Features & Specifications
FZ25 continues to pack the same set of features comprising a Multi-Function Negative LCD Instrument Cluster, Bi-Functional LED Headlight, LED DRLs, Side Stand with an Engine Cut-off Switch and engine under cowl. Other notable highlights include an LED taillamp, split seat setup, grab rails, a wide handlebar, heat shield exhaust system, black alloy wheels and a rear tyre hugger.

It also carries forward the same hardware configurations as its regular sibling. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks for the front and a mono-shock at the rear while braking is done by single discs at both ends along with a dual-channel ABS. More

New Hero Glamour Xtec 125cc Launch Price Rs 79k – Gets Bluetooth, Navigation

Hero Glamour XTECGlamour Xtec variant packs in visual enhancements as well as functional updates
One of the bestselling Hero motorcycles, Glamour has consistently featured in the list of top ten motorcycles in the country. However, if we consider the premium 125cc segment, Glamour doesn’t quite fit the bill in its current form. Customers looking for a more premium experience in the 125cc space usually go for bikes such as Honda SP 125. This is exactly why Hero feels the need for a more upmarket product.
With the updates, Xtec is priced around Rs 3k-4k higher. Existing Glamour is available in the price range of Rs 73,200 to Rs 78,500. XTEC is priced from Rs Rs 78.900 for the base drum variant and Rs 83,500 for the disc brake variant. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
    Hero Glamour Xtec styling
Xtec is essentially a feature-rich variant of Glamour. Its sportier styling and new range of features will enable improved competencies vis-à-vis rivals like SP 125. Xtec continues using the same design as the current Glamour model. Visual updates are primarily in the form of new colour options and refreshed graphics.
Glamour Xtec will be offered in three colour options, Techno Black, Grey Blue and Grey Red. Techno Black is an all-black colour theme, which ensures a dominating road presence. It comes with contrasting white graphics, as can be seen on the headlamp cowl, fuel tank, and side panels.
    Hero Glamour XTEC
White rim strips are also part of the package. The other two colour options utilize the same basic layout. The only difference is in the colour of graphics used. Grey Blue and Grey Red get blue and red coloured graphics, respectively.
Existing Glamour motorcycle is offered in colour options of Sports Red, Midnight Black, Radiant Red, and Techno Blue. The 100 Million Limited Edition model was also launched earlier this year in March.
    Glamour Xtec new features
Talking about functional updates, Glamour Xtec gets a fully digital instrument console. It packs in digital speedometer, tachometer and real-time mileage indicator. The bike also gets gear position indicator. To justify its premium profile, Xtec is also equipped with LED headlight. It also gets first-in-segment Bluetooth connectivity, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Integrated USB Charger along with Side-Stand Engine cut off, Bank Angle Sensor.
Powering Xtec will be the same 124.7 cc engine as is used with Glamour and other 125cc Hero motorcycles. The engine is capable of generating 10.73 hp of max power at 7500 rpm and 10.6 Nm of max torque at 6000 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh transmission.
Malo Le Masson, Head of Strategy and Global Product Planning, Hero MotoCorp, said, “The new Glamour Xtec brings an ‘X’ factor to the segment, with first-in-class features like LED headlamp and Turn-by-Turn Navigation through Bluetooth connectivity. It has the ideal combination of features that appeal to the youth. The Glamour Xtec caters to customers’ aspirations for Technology, Style and Safety at a much more accessible price.” More

Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube Electric Scooter Sales June 2021 – Cross 1,000 For 1st Time

Bajaj Chetak Electric ScooterTotal sales in H1 2021 stood at 1,262 units for Chetak while in comparison, TVS iQube sales were at 1,715 units for the same period
Bajaj Chetak electric scooter, launched in India last year is currently available for sale only in Pune and Bangalore. The TVS iQube, its arch rival, was also launched in 2020 and is currently on sale in Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai and Coimbatore. Price of Chetak is in the range of Rs 1.42 lakh onwards while that of TVS iQube is Rs 1 lakh onwards – depending on the city.
These are the only two electric scooters offered by mainstream automakers while other offerings in the electric two wheeler segment are from new comers. The attached table shows off sales of two competitors in India both in terms of H1 2021 sales and MoM sales of June 2021 over that of May 2021. It may also be noted that TVS iQube shows more demand over Bajaj Chetak, though iQube sales in May 2021 were down to zero units.
One of the reasons why Chetak got a slower start was due to the fact that bookings were suspended at start of this year. Hence during first three months January to March, sales were overtaken by that of the iQube. This is the first time, total sales of both scooters has crossed the 1,000 units mark.
    Chetak, iQube H1 2021 sales
The period January to June 2021 has seen a total of 1,261 units of Bajaj Chetak sold as against 1,715 units of TVS iQube. In 4 out of 6 months, sales of the Chetak have been lower than that of  iQube, with iQube sales at 0 units in May 2021.
Chetak vs iQube Electric Scooter Sales June 2021
The months of March and June showed most disparity in terms of sales. Chetak sales in March 2021 stood at just 90 units, 265 units lower as compared to 355 units of the iQube sold in the same month. It was a similar story in June 2021 when Chetak sales were at 452 units as against 639 units of the iQube sold. It was only in the month of April 2021 that sales of Chetak exceeded that of iQube standing at 508 units and 307 units respectively.
    Chetak, iQube MoM sales
When looking at MoM sales, though sales of the iQube in May 2021 were down to 0 units, sales for June 2021 stood higher than that of Chetak sales in both months.
Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube sales stood at 1,091 units in June 2021 as against 31 units (only Chetak) sold in May 2021. Chetak sales in June 2021 had stood at 452 units, a 1,358.06 percent increase over 31 units sold in May 2021. There were 639 units of iQube sold in June 2021.
There are some differences between Chetak and iQube that could probably have led to this inequality in terms of sales. Bajaj Chetak is priced higher than the iQube. However, Chetak offers a 95 kms range per charge as against a 75 km range offered by TVS iQube. Chetak is available in comparatively lesser cities. More

Top 10 Motorcycle Sales June 2021 – Splendor, Pulsar, Apache, CB Shine

Image – The Bengal RiderThe two wheeler segment as a whole witnessed growth in June 2021 when compared to the lockdown impacted June 2020
June 2021 proved to be a good month for the automobile industry in India. Growth was reported across the passenger and commercial vehicle segments. Though there was also increased demand seen in the case of motorcycles, scooter sales dipped.
Pent up demand could be a major reason for this increased buying trend along with the urgent need for more private means of transport. Rising fuel prices could also be one of the reasons for a switch to two wheelers particularly for shorter distance travel.
As we assess the top 10 motorcycle sales in India in June 2021 and compare that with sales in June 2020, it may be seen from the attached table that growth was to the extent of 24.61 percent and this is no mean feat in these troubled times. Total sales of top 10 motorcycles stood at 6,79,302 units in June 2021, up from 5,45,143 units sold in June 2020.
    Hero Splendor, HF Deluxe
Hero Splendor was the best-selling motorcycle in India in June 2021. This commuter motorcycle had a 38.86 percent share in the top 10 list. It noted sales of 2,64,009 units in the past month, up 45.71 percent over 1,81,190 units sold in June 2020.
    Top 10 Motorcycles June 2021
From the same automaker was the HF Deluxe with 1,10,724 units sold in June 2021. However, this was a 14.87 percent de-growth over 1,30,065 units sold in June 2020. Bajaj Pulsar that set new benchmarks for sports biking in India, was at No.3, with a marginal dip in YoY sales. Sales which had been at 80,822 units in June 2020 dipped 2.07 percent to 79,150 units in June 2021. Bajaj Auto has introduced a price hike across the Pulsar range. This makes the motorcycle costlier in the range of Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000 from 1st July 2021.
Honda CB Shine at No. 4 on the list of top 10 best-selling motorcycles in India with a notable increase in YoY sales. As compared to sales of 40,316 units in June 2020, sales increased 78.26 percent to 71,869 units in June 2021.
