    BMW M550i xDrive Is Significantly Quicker After Acceleration Fix

    When we first tested the BMW M550i xDrive, it accelerated slower than we expected.BMW has now issued a fix, which dropped the sprint to 60 mph from 4.1 seconds to 3.5 seconds.The update can be done over the air or at a BMW service department. Our test of the 2021 BMW M550i xDrive earlier this year revealed a slower-than-expected 4.1-second time to 60 mph. While that beats the time a Ferrari F40 set 30 years ago, these days that’s slower than the 3.9 seconds it took us to get to 60 in an X5 M50i that weighs 856 pounds more than the M550i. They have identical 523-hp powertrains, so that raised some eyebrows.It’s rare, but turbocharged cars are sometimes slower than expected, and the culprit is often low-octane fuel. A retest on a fresh tank of 93 octane after the initial California 91 dropped the time to 3.9 seconds, still short of BMW’s 3.6-second claim (plus, we often outperform manufacturer claims).

    When BMW learned of our test results, engineers went to work and discovered that a software glitch was causing a miscommunication between the engine computer and the car’s stability-control module. In a standing-start launch, the stability control would intervene and direct the engine to cut boost, keeping it from making full power and adding tenths to the 60-mph time, a problem for all 2021 M550i and 540i xDrive models.This summer BMW sent out a statement informing owners that there would be a fix. The update can be done over the air or at a dealer service department. Now, several months later, we’ve tested the fixed version of the M550i and hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and the quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds at 119 mph. It appears that all 523 horses are present and able to run.

    Bajaj Pulsar 125cc, 150cc Range To Get Updated – New Platform

    The Pulsar range of motorcycles received a fresh breath of life when Bajaj launched two new flagship Pulsar models in the form of Pulsar N250 and Pulsar F250. The series of sporty commuter motorcycles recently completed two decades in the Indian market and has reached cult status for enthusiastic riders on a budget.
    However, competition in recent years has stiffened with TVS pulling new tricks with its Apache brand of motorcycles. Some of the smaller Pulsars now appear to be outdated since they haven’t received a major upgrade in many years. Bajaj, however, has regularly provided all its models with small cosmetic and feature updates.
    New-Gen Pulsar Range
    Currently, the Chakan-based bikemaker retails a bunch of Pulsar models with different engine displacements including 125, 150, 180, 220F, NS125, NS160, NS200 and RS200. At the launch of Bajaj Pulsar 250 range recently, Bajaj announced that they will be discontinuing their existing range of Pulsar motorcycles and updating them to a new generation in the coming months.
    Bajaj has been working on developing new generation models of smaller Pulsars. From the 125cc to the 200cc of Pulsar is expected to get updated in the next one year. Majority of Pulsar sales are achieved by the Pulsar 125 and the Pulsar 150. It is likely that these are the two which get updated first.
    New Gen Pulsar 250
    With the launch of new gen 250cc Pulsars, it is likely that Bajaj might discontinue the 220F. In fact, the F250 looks spiritual successor to the 220F – with a similar semi-faired design. In terms of sales, the 220F manages to sell about 5-7k units a month. If the 220F gets discontinued, the new F250 would benefit directly in sales.
    Possible updates
    The new-gen Pulsars should incorporate a brand new design, a new chassis and updated powertrains. Bajaj could also throw in some new features on the new Pulsar models such as new semi-digital instrument console.
    That said, it would be some time before Bajaj actually introduces the new-gen Pulsar bikes in the country. The Pulsar lineup will most probably start with Pulsar 125 and top out at Pulsar 250 with Pulsar 150 and Pulsar 200 in between. Bajaj is unlikely to go beyond the quarter-litre Pulsars as it already has the Dominar range and is also working with Triumph for a new line of motorcycles.
    New Pulsar 250
    Both Pulsar N250 and F250 are the same motorcycle underneath their slightly different attire. The former gets a naked design while the latter gets a semi-faired styling. There are also slight differences in the riding posture of the two bikes due to different handlebars.
    Powering Pulsar 250 is a 249cc single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled motor that kicks out 24 bhp and 21.5 Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 5-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The bikes get a new split-tubular frame which is suspended on conventional telescopic front forks and mono-shock at rear. More

    Two Wheeler Sales Oct 2021 – Hero, Honda, TVS, Bajaj, Royal Enfield

    A total of 14,20,528 units were sold in the domestic market in October. YoY numbers are down by -25.95%, as compared to 19,18,465 units sold in October last year. All leading two-wheeler manufacturers have negative YoY growth in the month. MoM growth is also negative at -3.37%, as compared to 14,70,011 units sold in September 2021. Only Honda has negative MoM growth in October.
    Exports are relatively better, registering YoY growth of 0.52%. A total of 3,36,598 units were exported in October 2021, as compared to 3,34,865 units in October last year. The ones with negative YoY export growth are Bajaj and Royal Enfield. MoM export growth is down by -0.47%, as compared to 3,38,179 units exported in September 2021. Only Bajaj and Honda have positive MoM export growth in October.

    Hero MotoCorp continues to lead with sales of 5,27,779 units in October. YoY sales growth is down by -33.29%, as compared to 7,91,137 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 37.15%. In MoM terms, Hero has made gains of 4.42% in comparison to 5,05,462 units sold in September 2021.
    At number two is Honda with sales of 3,94,623 units in October. Honda has lost a fifth of its YoY sales, as compared to 4,94,459 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 27.78%. MoM numbers are also negative at -14.89%. In September 2021, Honda sales were at 4,63,679 units.

    TVS is third with sales of 2,58,777 units in October. While YoY growth is down by -14.14%, MoM numbers have improved by 6.02%. Sales in October last year were at 3,01,380 units. In September, the company had sold 2,44,084 units. TVS market share in October is at 18.22%.
    At number four is Bajaj with sales of 1,98,738 units in October. YoY growth is down by -26.02%, as compared to 2,68,631 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 13.99%. MoM growth is up by 14.25%, as compared to 1,73,945 units sold in September 2021.
    Royal Enfield is next with sales of 40,611 units in October. YoY growth is down by -35.39%, as compared to 62,858 units sold in October last year. In percentage terms, Enfield has the biggest drop in YoY sales. However, MoM growth is close to 50% in comparison to 27,233 units sold in September 2021. Royal Enfield market share is at 2.86%.

    Bajaj continues to maintain its dominance in exports. The Pune based company exported 1,92,565 units in October. YoY growth is down by -4.51%, as compared to 2,01,659 units exported in October last year. Share is exports is 57.21%. MoM growth is positive at 2.93%, as compared to 1,87,091 units exported in September 2021.
    At number two is TVS with exports of 82,736 units in October. While YoY numbers are up by 2.47%, MoM growth is down -6.44%. TVS share in exports is at 24.58%. Honda is third in the list with exports of 37,584 units in October. Both YoY and MoM numbers are up by 14.86% and 97.01%, respectively. Share in exports is at 11.17%.     The successor to the Countryman SUV will also arrive in 2023 and is set to be produced by BMW’s Leipzig Plant alongside the X1. It will also offering both ICE and EV powertrains. The company says its last combustion model will be launched in 2025 and could possibly be the cabriolet version of the next hatchback.BMW has also confirmed it will be producing two pure electric models in China, this presumably part of the joint venture it previously announced with Chinese automaker Great Wall. Reports in the U.K. suggest these will be an ultra-compact model positioned under the Mini hatchback—which seems unlikely to make it to the U.S.—as well as a crossover positioned between the hatch and the next Countryman.There’s also some good news for fans of Mini’s performance models, as the company confirmed that it is working on ideas for future generation of electric John Cooper Works models. Those are the ones we’re looking forward to most.

    2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Two-Row Model Gets Significant Price Bump

    The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will start at $39,185 when it goes on sale later this year. The new two-row Grand Cherokee is available with either rear- or four-wheel drive with either a V-6 or V-8 engine. A plug-in-hybrid 4xe model will arrive next year, though Jeep has not announced its price. Jeep’s fresh Grand Cherokee lineup is finally complete, with the upgraded two-row model joining the new three-row L model that debuted earlier this year. The 2022 standard-wheelbase version will go on sale by the end of this year with a starting price of $39,185, which is $3705 more than the previous generation that was sold alongside the new three-row L for the 2021 model year.
    That starting price is for the base Laredo model with rear-wheel drive, which is only available with a 3.6-liter V-6 with 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It has cloth seats and 17-inch wheels. Rear-wheel drive is standard on every Jeep with the V-6, but four-wheel drive is available for an extra $2000. The Altitude ($43,740) and Limited ($45,505) models add leather seats and are also only available with the V-6 engine.

    A 5.7-liter V-8 with 357 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque is available on the Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and new Summit Reserve models. It comes standard with four-wheel drive. The Trailhawk gets Jeep’s “Trail Rated” badge thanks to off-road equipment including a front sway bar disconnect. It starts at $53,070 ($56,365 for the V-8). The Overland starts at $55,100 with rear-wheel drive and the V-6 but can reach $60,395 with the V-8 engine. Summit models have the most luxury appointments. They start at $59,160 and can reach $64,455 with the V-8. The new Summit Reserve trim is only available with four-wheel drive and costs $65,160 for the V-6 and $68,455 with the V-8. There’s also a new 4xe plug-in-hybrid model using a turbo four-cylinder engine and two electric motors drawing power from a lithium-ion battery, but Jeep has yet to announce its price. The 4xe is available in Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit trims. It will go on sale early next year. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is slated to arrive at dealerships by the end of this year, and it will join the new three-row Grand Cherokee L, which costs $1500 more.

    Hero MotoCorp Sales Oct 2021 – Splendor, Passion, Deluxe, Pleasure, Destini

    Hero MotoCorp, the largest two wheeler maker across the globe has released their sales report for October 2021. The company has reported a 33 percent decline in domestic sales to the extent of 33 percent to a total of 5,27,779 units, down from 7,91,137 units sold in October 2020. Exports on the other hand increased from 15,711 units sold in October 2020 to 20,191 units in the past month.

    Motorcycle sales stood at 5,05,957 units in the past month, a YoY de-growth over 7,32,498 units sold in the same month of the previous year. YTD sales also dipped significantly to 27,99,698 units in the April to October 2021 period, down from 29,39,553 unit sold in the same period of 2020. Best sellers include Splendor, Passion, HF Deluxe. Even premium Hero motorcycles like Xtreme and Xpulse did decent numbers.
    Scooter sales also suffered a setback dipping to 42,013 units in the past month as against 74,350 units sold in October 2020. YTD sales were at 2,11,402 units, down from 2,45,246 units sold in the April to October 2020 period. Hero scooters include Destini, Maestro, Pleasure – which are not as much in demand as their motorcycles.
    This took total motorcycle and scooter sales to 5,47,970 units in October 2021 down from 8,06,848 units sold in October 2020. YTD sales dipped to 30,11,100 in the past 7 months of 2021 over 31,84,99 units sold in the same period of 2020.

    New Launches From Hero
    In October 2021, Hero MotoCorp introduced XPulse 200 along with the Hero Xtreme 160R Stealth Edition. The new Pleasure+ XTec marked its entry into the company’s scooter portfolio. Pleasure + XTec comes in at a starting price of Rs 61,993 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Hero Xpulse 200 is priced at Rs 1,23,150 making it the most affordable entry-level bike in the country.
    Hero’s new Xtreme 160R Stealth Edition is at Rs 1,16,660. The Stealth Edition gets more sporty in a Matte Black colour scheme and receives class-leading features among which are all-LED lighting system, side stand engine cut off, etc. Its first-in-segment features also include integrated USB charger and 5 level adjustment for brightness of LCD display.
    Hero MotoCorp Exports Surge
    Exports of Hero MotoCorp were more positive with a 28 percent MoM increase to 20,191 units over 15,711 units shipped in October 2020. YTD exports surged to 1,76,807 units from 82,408 units sold in the same period of 2020. Sales over the coming weeks are expected to grow due to increased festive buying.
    As markets open up following the COVID-19 pandemic situation that we have been facing over the past year, Hero MotoCorp has accelerated their global expansion initiative. The company inaugurated a new dealership in Dubai in October 2021 so as to enhance their presence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).     480-HP Ford F-100 Eluminator Concept Shows What Electric Crate Motors Can Do

    Ford debuted the F-100 Eluminator concept at this year’s SEMA aftermarket show. It debuts the first use of the Eluminator electric crate motor, using a dual-motor setup producing the same 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque ad the Mustang Mach-E Performance. The electric crate motor is available to purchase for $3900. Earlier this year, Ford announced its first electric crate motor called the Eluminator: a 281-hp electric motor from the Mustang Mach-E GT. Now Ford is giving the world an example of what the Eluminator can be used for at this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas with it used on a 1978 F-100 pickup.
    However, the F-100 Eluminator concept uses the same dual-motor electric powertrain from the 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance, which Ford claims will reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The two motors make a combined 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque. The version you’ll be able to buy from Ford makes 281 horsepower and 317 pound-feet. Of course, the electric motors aren’t the only electric hardware that’ll need to be installed—the Mach-E GT’s 88.0-kWh battery pack provides the juice.

    The concept truck was built by MLe Racecars and the Roadster Shop, and it’s finished in Avalanche Gray with copper accents. A set of 19-inch wheels are wrapped with Michelin Latitude Sport tires, and it has an aggressive stance, nailing the retro look. The interior features avocado-tanned leather and a billet aluminum dashboard with the 15.5-inch center touchscreen from the Mustang Mach-E.
    Ford’s production electric pickup, the F-150 Lightning, will go on sale next year. In the meantime, the Eluminator electric crate motor is available to purchase online now for $3900, and it’s street legal in all 50 states. We can’t wait to see the EV conversions people come up with.
