    Aprilia, over the past few years, has carved out a niche space for itself in the Indian two-wheeler industry as a premium brand. While its presence may not be as prominent as some of the other brands in the market but it surely knows a lot about making attractive and fun-to-ride two-wheelers.
    The Italian manufacturer might be looking to update some of the products in its portfolio in the coming future. A fully disguised prototype of what seemed like SR 125 or SR 160 was spotted recently in Pune. Images are credit to automotive enthusiast Priyam Chitransh, who shared the images on Rushlane Spylane Facebook Group. The test mule appears to be a mildly updated iteration of either one of the scooters.
    The SR range of scooters hasn’t got any serious updates ever since they were launched a few years back. In a market like India where competition is cut-throat, regular updates to a product are a key for success and longevity. The forthcoming update is most likely to be cosmetic in nature and there might be a few feature upgrades as well.
    Possible Updates
    A closer look at the recent spy shots suggests that it is most likely to be an updated SR 125. The most obvious indication here being a single-piece grab rail as opposed to the split grab rails offered in SR 160. Only the rear quarter end of the scooter is visible and it doesn’t give out a lot. The updates will surely be of a very subtle nature as nothing specific can be comprehended from these images.

    The most significant addition seems to be a new instrument console which is fully digital. The existing SR range gets semi-digital cluster, unlike the SXR range – which gets full digital cluster. It is likely that the new SR range will get the full digital cluster from the SXR range in the next update. It will offer a range of information from the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, distance to empty and more.
    If Aprilia is generous, it could even offer connectivity technologies such as Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity. The company might even offer fresh colour schemes with the scooter.
    SR 125, SR 160 Specs
    There are unlikely to be any mechanical changes. Powering SR 125 is a 124.49cc, single-cylinder engine that pushes out 9.4 bhp at 7250rpm and a peak torque of 9.9 Nm at 6,250rpm. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at front and a mono-shock at rear. Braking hardware consists of a single 220mm disc brake upfront and a 140mm drum brake at the rear.
    On the other hand, SR 160 is powered by a larger 160cc single-cylinder motor which cranks out 10.7bhp at 7600rpm and 11.6Nm at 6000rpm. It gets the same hardware configurations as its less powerful sibling. While SR 125 is priced between Rs 94,288 and Rs 96,811, SR 160 is currently available at a price of Rs 1.09 lakh – Rs 1.16 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). More

    2022 Yamaha R125 And R3 Unveiled – Special Edition Colour Scheme

    Yamaha has been a successful Grand Prix motorcycle racing team for 60 years now and to commemorate this occasion, the Japanese brand is launching a special edition of the 2022 R3 and R15 later this year. To showcase its MotoGP racing heritage, Yamaha has introduced a special 60th Anniversary livery on both faired motorcycles.

    Moreover, 2022 Yamaha R3 is now compliant with Euro-5 emission norms. Both feature common styling elements such as white paneling with red graphics in the speed block design, as well as a special emblem on the tank. Yamaha’s iconic speed block-style pattern on fairings adds that special retro touch to the package.
    Furthermore, the faired sports bikes are adorned by a continuous red paint stripe on the fuel tank and tail section. Other attractive highlights include a red front fender, a yellow paint at front apron to carve the numbers on it and golden-coloured alloy rims. The bikes look similar to Team Blue’s MotoGP test bike for the pre-season with the same livery.
    R3 Updates
    The biggest update is seen in the form of R3 making its return with a Euro-5 compliant engine. In order to achieve this, the Japanese bikemaker has tweaked the lower fairing cowl of R3 to incorporate a new catalytic converter.

    Rest of the specifications are similar to its predecessor. It continues to be powered by a 321cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin mill that churns out 41 bhp and 29.5 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox which gets a slipper and assist clutch.
    The bike is underpinned by a diamond tube frame which is sprung on gold-painted 37mm inverted forks at front and a mono-shock at rear. In addition to the 60th Anniversary paint scheme, Yamaha has offered the 2022 R3 in Icon Blue and Yamaha Black shades. In terms of features, it gets an all-LED illumination and a digital LCD instrument console.

    R125, on the other hand, gets a new dual-tone Icon Blue paint along with a dark matte blue colour option, apart from the 60th Anniversary Edition. It is powered by a 125cc liquid-cooled motor (with VVA) that dishes out 15 bhp and 11.5Nm of peak torque. This unit is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox and gets a slipper clutch as well. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm USD front forks and linked rear mono-shock. Its braking hardware consists of a 292mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc.

    350cc Motorcycle Sales Aug 2021 – Classic, Meteor, Bullet, Electra, CB350

    A total of 36,543 units were sold in August 2021, as compared to 46,177 units in August last year. YoY sales have declined by -20.86%. MoM growth is also negative at -6.38%, as compared to 39,034 units sold in July 2021. Top volume generators in domestic market are Classic 350 and Meteor 350. Royal Enfield’s market share in 350cc segment domestic market is more than 95%.
    350cc motorcycle exports in August 2021 were at 3,919 units. YoY growth has zoomed 2101.69%, as compared to 178 units exported in August last year. MoM export growth is at 48.00%, as compared to 2,648 units exported in July 2021. Majority of exports comprise Meteor, followed by CB350 and Classic 350.
    350cc motorcycles – Domestic sales
    Classic 350 continues to lead, even though YoY sales growth is negative. A total of 23,453 units were sold in August. YoY growth is down by -32.59%, as compared to 34,791 units sold in August last year. This dip in sales is likely due to launch of new-gen Classic 350. Sales in September are expected to be higher. Classic 350 commanded a market share of 88.36% in August. MoM growth is up 38.86%, as compared to 16,890 units sold in July 2021.
    Meteor 350 retains its second position in the list with sales of 6,381 units in August. Market share is at 24.04%. MoM growth is down by -34.73%, as compared to 9,777 units sold in July 2021. Due to rising input costs, Royal Enfield recently increased prices of Meteor by Rs 7k. Updated prices of Fireball, Stellar and Supernova variants are Rs 1.99 lakh, Rs 2.05 lakh and Rs 2.15 lakh, respectively.

    Bullet 350 is third with sales of 3,699 units in August. YoY sales have close to halved, as compared to 7,257 units sold in August last year. Market share is at 13.94%. MoM numbers are down -48.14%, as compared to 7,133 units sold in July 2021.
    Next in the list is Electra 350 with sales of 1,963 units in August. YoY growth is down by -52.46%, as compared to 4,129 units sold in August last year. Market share is at 7.40%. MoM growth is down by -33.44%, as compared to 2,949 units sold in July 2021.
    Honda H’ness CB350 is fifth with sales of 1,047 units in August. Market share is at 3.94%. MoM sales have more than halved, as compared to 2,285 units sold in July 2021.

    Meteor 350 leads in exports with a total of 2,378 units in August. Percentage share in exports is at 60.68%. Meteor has registered significant MoM growth of 36.90%, as compared to 1,737 units exported in July 2021. CB350 is second best in exports with 822 units in August. Share in exports is at 20.97%. There’s a marginal dip of -2.26% in MoM growth. CB350 exports in July were at 841 units.
    Classic 350 is third in the list with exports of 719 units in August. YoY numbers are up by 303.93%, as compared to 178 units exported in August last year. Share in exports is at 18.35%. Other bikes, Bullet and Electra have zero exports in August. More

    New York Will Ban Sale of New Gasoline Cars by 2035

    A New York state law signed by governor Kathy Hochul sets a goal of 100 percent new passenger car and truck sales in the state being zero-emission vehicles by 2035, similar to executive order issued earlier by California governor.Newly adopted legislation sets similar goal for medium- and heavy-duty trucks in New York state, but with a target year of 2045.EV sales in New York state accounted for less than 2% in 2020, pointing to a need for significant gains over the next 13 years.Following a trend set by a number of states in the U.S., New York state has passed a law that sets a target for 100 percent of new passenger cars and trucks sold or leased in the state to be zero-emissions vehicles by the year 2035. The legislation was signed by Governor Kathy Hochul just a few days ago. The legislation contains a similar goal for off-road vehicles and equipment by 2035. The law also establishes a goal for all medium- and heavy-duty trucks sold or leased in the state to be zero-emission vehicles by 2045, “for all operations where feasible.”

    The signed legislation is more akin to a policy statement or executive order, in that it directs a state agency—namely the Department of Environmental Conservation—to propose regulations that will require increased volumes of zero-emission vehicles to be offered for sale with the goal of achieving a 100 percent mark by 2035. The law effectively compels state agencies to phase out sales of gas- and diesel-engined vehicles and trucks by a certain date through agency rules, which itself have yet to be adopted.The law as drafted lacks enforcement mechanisms and concrete steps that agencies will need to take in order to phase in sales of zero-emission vehicles. In effect, there are no corresponding state agency rules that have been enacted to promote sales of zero-emission vehicles to such a significant extent, or (perhaps more importantly) actively inhibit sales of internal-combustion vehicles at a dealer level. Further legislation and agency rules, complete with enforcement mechanisms, will be needed.The law also requires that a zero-emission vehicle strategy be developed by 2023, which will then be used by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to create programs and policies to actually promote EV sales.

    “Using California’s Advanced Clean Trucks Rule as a template, the proposed regulation would require truck manufacturers to transition to clean, electric zero-emission vehicles,” the governor’s office said in a statement. “Truck manufacturers would be required to meet a certain annual sales percentage of zero-emission trucks, which will vary among vehicle weight classes, beginning with model year 2025. By the 2035 model year, at least 55 percent of all new Class 2b-3 pickup trucks and vans, 75 percent of all new Class 4-8 trucks, and 40 percent of all new Class 7-8 tractors sold in New York State will be zero-emission. The proposed regulation provides medium- and heavy-duty truck manufacturers with several compliance options and would require a one-time reporting from applicable truck fleets.”The statement above, you may have noted, mentions proposed (but not yet adopted) regulations aimed at out-of-state truck manufacturers, rather than sales by truck dealers within the state, while also seeking compliance from reports by specific fleets.New York state faces some headwinds in achieving 100 percent zero-emission sales of passenger cars and trucks by 2035, with the market share of electric vehicles in the state currently hovering around 1 percent. Plug-in hybrids will also qualify as zero-emissions vehicles. Sales of these ZEVs will have to make significant gains while sales of gas- and diesel-engined vehicles will have to surrender significant market share each year. This is likely to be dictated by market forces more than anything, absent some compelling incentive programs.

    Many automakers have rolled out ambitious goals for transitioning to EV-only lineups, but even these goals come with plenty of asterisks. For one thing, assuming comparable levels of annual vehicle sales in the US until 2035, the recovery and processing of raw materials for the production lithium-ion batteries alone would have to experience significant growth, absent the sudden arrival of solid-state battery technology that would rely on more easily obtained raw materials. So even the plans of automakers to go EV-only by a certain year are based on other industries being able to keep up with that transition.

    Energy storage solutions provider- Okaya has launched a new electric scooter named Freedum at a starting price of Rs 69,900. This is the company’s third electric two-wheeler offering after its official entry in the Indian automotive sector as Okaya EV in July earlier this year.
    Okaya claims its latest e-scooter offering as 100 percent indigenously developed in India and manufactured at the company’s facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. The brand already retails two electric scooters- the AvionIQ series and the ClassIQ which have received a great response, as per Okaya.
    Okaya Electric Scooter – More Details
    The new Freedum electric scooter will be available in four variants- starting with Low-Speed e-Scooters for select markets. Okaya will further launch high speed, high range e-scooters offering more than 250km per charge capacity in the coming months. The company has revealed that it will roll out a total of fourteen new products in the current financial year including a high-Speed Motorcycle and specialized B2B vehicles.
    All these two-wheelers will be built from scratch and developed in accordance with requirements of delivery based businesses. Okaya currently has 120 dealers across the country and plans to add another 800 in the coming days.     The newly launched Freedum electric scooter will be available in two battery options- VRLA Lead Acid Battery and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Battery. It will be offered in multiple colour options including White, Red, Blue to Black, Green, Brown and Beige. The scooter gets an attractive front end with a single-piece LED headlamp on the front apron flanked by LED DRLs on both sides. The turn indicators are placed on the handlebar.
    Okaya Electric Scooter is powered by a 250W, BLDC Hub Motor which has a top speed of 25kmph. While the Lithium-ion battery pack offers a maximum range of 70-80 km, the Lead Acid battery offers a peak range of 50-60 km on a single charge. The Lithium unit takes 4-5 hours to get fully charged in comparison to 8-10 hours taken by the lead-acid battery.

    2022 Lucid Air Receives Impressive Official EPA Range Estimates

    Lucid Motors announced official EPA range and efficiency ratings for several versions of its Air sedan.The Dream Edition Range model wearing 19-inch wheels can go the furthest with a 520-mile range, while the Grand Touring model, which has 133 less horsepower, goes 516 miles on 19-inch wheels.Upgrading to the 21-inch wheels knocks off a significant amount of range, with the Dream Edition Range dropping to 481 miles with the bigger wheels and the Grand Touring decreasing to 469 miles.Many of today’s electric-vehicle startups tout jaw-dropping performance figures and driving range figures. But Lucid Motors, which aims to deliver its first customer cars before the end of the year, has now taken a major step forward with official EPA estimates for the range and efficiency of its upcoming Air sedan. And the numbers are big.

    The launch model of the Lucid Air, called the Dream Edition, comes into two configurations, with the Range prioritizing driving distance and the Performance focusing on extra power and acceleration. The 933-hp Range, unsurprisingly, goes the furthest on a charge, with the EPA estimating the range at 520 miles on the standard 19-inch wheels and 481 miles on the optional 21-inch wheels. The 520-mile figure gives the Lucid Air the longest range of any EV rated by the EPA.

    While the 1111-hp Performance version sacrifices distance for power, the EPA still estimates it can go 471 miles on a charge with the 19-inch wheels, a figure which dropps by 20 miles when fitted with the 21-inchers. Along with the Dream Edition available at launch, the Air will be offered in Grand Touring specification, which produces 800 hp. The Grand Touring can travel an estimated 516 miles with the 19-inch wheels and 469 miles with the 21-inch wheels. For reference, the Tesla Model S that goes the furthest on a single charge—the creatively-named Long Range—has an EPA rating of 405 miles, while the ultimate performance version of the Model S, the 1020-hp Plaid, has a EPA range estimate of 348 miles. Lucid also says it now has the highest MPGe ratings for the EPA’s Large vehicle class, with the most efficient version of the Air, the Grand Touring with 19-inch wheels, rated at 130 MPGe in the city, 132 MPGe on the highway, and 131 MPGe combined. The least efficient Air is the Dream Edition Performance on the 21-inch wheels, which earned a rating of 110 MPGe in the city and 111 MPGe on the highway for a combined 111 MPGe.Lucid had originally planned to start production of the Air in the spring of this year, but this was delayed to late 2021. With the EPA ratings now in place, Lucid is one step closer to delivering vehicles to customers.

The top 10 two wheelers sold have collectively reported a decline. While automakers continuously gauge customer needs to launch two wheelers across segments, it’s been a tough action plan in recent months. Hero MotoCorp continues to put in a leading performance.
    Top 10 Two Wheelers Aug 2021 – Hero Splendor sales highest
    Some scooter sales in the top 10 list continue to see a positive growth. The market has been going through a transition phase with a select few products/manufacturers seeing faster growth than the industry average. Hero Splendor continues to lead the table. Wholesales was reported at 2,41,703 units, up from 9,32,201 units. Sales volume gain stood at just over 9.5 k units at 4.09 percent growth. In the top 10 order, Hero Splendor claimed almost 25 percent market shared.
    Honda continues to strategically position it as a lifestyle brand through new segments.Honda has been promising new products for a while now, and it would be interesting to see what product launch it plans next. A popular notion points to a small cc mass market motorcycle.
    Just over 2 lakh units of Honda Activa were sold, up from 1,93,607 units. Volume gain stood at over 11k units at 5.71 percent growth. Honda CB Shine, the automaker’s bestselling motorcycle saw sales just under 1.3 lakhs. Sales grew from 1,06,133 units at volume gain of 23,793 units. Volume growth stood at 22.42 percent.

    Hero HF Deluxe sales fell noticeably at 35.33 percent decline. Sales is down at 1,14,575 units from 1,77,168 units. Volume loss stood at 62,593 units. Bajaj Pulsar series sales fell by almost a quarter, down to just over 66k units. Sales fell from 87,202 units. Volume loss stood at 21,095 units. Bajaj Platina sales growth was the highest in the top 10 two-wheelers sold. Sales grew from about 40k units to 56,615 units at 40.50 percent. Sales volume growth stood at 16,321 units.
    TVS top-sellers volume decline
    TVS XL100 moped sales fell by almost a quarter. Sales was down to 52,607 units, down from just over 70k units. Volume loss stood at 17,519 units. Suzuki Access scooter sales grew to almost 50k units. Volume gain stood at 7,651 units, up from 41,484 units at sales growth of 18.44 percent.
    TVS Jupiter sales fell by almost 13 percent, down to just over 45k units. Sales fell from 52,378 units at volume loss of 6,753 units. Honda Did scooter sales decline was the steepest in the top 10 two-wheelers list. Sales fell to 26,897 units, down from 42,957 units. Volume loss stood at just over 16k units at sales decline of 37.39 percent. Total sales of the top order is reported ay 9,87,849 units, down from 10,43,550 units. Volume loss stood at over 55k units at 5.34 percent decline.

    In select segments, sales continues to grow faster than market. So, while overall market growth was negative for the top order, some growth was positive, which is not an an easy task in a sceptic market. We have also seen faster growth than average market numbers for a band of electric two wheeler manufacturers. Of course, one should remember volumes for such products remains small compared to the full market size.
    In certain scenarios, It is evident there is latent demand for big bikes, given their higher performance, and longer lifecycle among rural and urban customers. A company can be said to have innovated if its products are seen as offering new features to meet consumer needs.     After a host of teaser videos being released, TVS Motor Company has officially launched the new Raider 125 motorcycle in India. This sport-commuter bike adds to the ever increasing list of 125cc bikes in the country. It will be offered as a capable competitor to the Honda CB Shine, Bajaj Pulsar 125, Bajaj Discover 125 and Hero Super Splendor in the Indian market.
    Sporty Styling
    The new TVS Raider 125cc is priced at Rs 77,500 (Ex-Delhi). At this price, it is about Rs 5k more expensive than the Hero Super Splendor, while it is about Rs 1k cheaper than the Bajaj Pulsar 125 and almost Rs 23k cheaper than Pulsar NS 125. In the company line-up, the new Raider is positioned between Radeon 110 and the Apache RTR 160 4V.
    Being a new gen motorcycle, it shares some features with the Apache series. Raider gets all LED head and tail lamps along with LED DRLs. It also sports a fully digital instrument cluster with tachometer, gear position indicator along with speedometer, fuel gauge and clock. It also gets TVS Bluetooth connected features.
    Sporty accents extend to a muscular fuel tank, sharp belly pan and split seats. TVS Raider 125cc is being presented in four colour options of Blue, Red, Yellow, and Black but with a dual tone finish with black colour on its tank shrouds.

    TVS Raider 125 is positioned on a 1,326mm wheelbase and rides on 17 inch alloy wheels at the front and rear. It gets a 10 liter fuel tank while kerb weight is at 123 kgs. Fuel efficiency is pegged at 67 km/l, thanks to ET Fi. A segment-first for a 125cc motorcycle in India, TVS Raider 125 comes in with two ride modes of Eco and Power. Eco mode will relate to better fuel efficiency while Power mode is for fun.
    Engine, Suspension and Braking
    TVS Raider 125 is powered by a 14.8cc, three valve, air cooled engine offering 11.4 hp power at 7,500 rpm and 11.2 Nm torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine gets mated to a 5 speed gearbox. Suspension is carried out via telescopic fork in the front and gas charged 5 step preload adjustable monoshock at the rear while braking is by a 240mm disc set up in front and 130mm drum at the rear.
