Mahindra Owned Peugeot Motorcycles Lose Patent Infringement Case In France, Italy

Piaggio MP3 and Mahindra Peugeot MetropolisIn addition to receiving a ban on sales of Metropolis in French and Italian territories, Peugeot Motorcycles has also incurred heavy fines in both the markets
In what is a significant setback for Mahindra-owned Peugeot Motorcycles, the courts in Paris and Milan have ruled against the sale of popular Peugeot Metropolis three-wheeled maxi-scooter in France and Italy due to a patent infringement. On top of that, both courts levied hefty fines.
Piaggio Group’s patent suit against Peugeot Scooters
The legal battle between Italy’s Piaggio Group and Peugeot Motorcycles centers around the control system which enables a three-wheeler to tilt like a regular two-wheeler. The patent for the aforementioned technology is owned by Piaggio Group which implements the system on its Piaggio MP3 scooter.
Both the Tribunal Judiciaire of Paris and Tribunale of Milan have found the control system employed by Peugeot Metropolis to be infringing Piaggio Group’s patent. As a result, the French court has banned Peugeot Motorcycles from producing, promoting, marketing, importing, exporting, using and/or possessing any three-wheeled scooter employing Piaggio’s patented technology in France. The court also imposed a fine of 1.5 million euros (Rs 12.95 crores) in addition to other penalties.
The Milanese court also ruled on the similar lines, banning the Indian-owned French two wheeler maker from importing, exporting, marketing and advertising the Peugeot Metropolis scooter in the Italian territory. Moreover, the court has prescribed a fine of 6,000 euros (around INR 5.18 lakh) for every Metropolis sold 30 days after the announcement of this sentence. Failing to withdraw the contentious vehicles from sale within 90 days will lead to a further penalty of 10,000 euros (around INR 8.64 lakh) for every day of non-compliance.

    What next?
Given that the three-wheeled maxi-scooters are quite popular in both France and Italy, the ban on Metropolis comes as a huge blow to Peugeot Motorcycles which is entitled to appeal both the rulings. However, the company has not made its legal strategy public yet. Should the brand chooses not to pursue the legal battle further, or loses its appeal, we believe that a re-engineering process will be on the cards.
    Peugeot Metropolis
As of now, the Peugeot Metropolis scooter continues to be listed on the company’s official Italian website. Priced a shade below 10,000 euros (around INR 8.64 lakh), the premium three-wheeler employs a 400 cc liquid-cooled engine with an automatic transmission. The power and torque figures stand at 35.6 hp and 38.1 Nm respectively.
In comparison, the Piaggio MP3 is available in different flavours with three engine options – 300cc, 400cc and 500cc with prices ranging from 6,890 euros (around INR 5.95 lakh) to 11,590 euros (around INR 10.01 lakh).
We expect Piaggio Group to initiate legal actions in all the markets where the Peugeot Metropolis is being sold. It is to be noted that while Peugeot Motorcycles evaluated a possible Indian entry a few years ago, nothing materialized. More

The biggest news is the increased availability of the 6.2-liter V-8, which continues to be standard on the top-of-the-line High Country but can now be fitted to the RST, Z71, and Premier trim levels. Choosing the 6.2-liter in the RST also adds GM’s Magnetic Ride Control damping system, which is available on the Z71 and standard on the Premier and High Country.
All models besides the High Country continue with the 5.3-liter V-8 as the standard engine, and all models except the Z71 can be optioned with the Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder. 2022 also brings a newly optional electronic limited-slip differential, which will be available on the Z71 trim and can be used in the 4WD Low setting.

Inside the Tahoe and Suburban is a new 12.3-inch screen, which will come standard on all trims starting except for the base LS. There will also be Google apps such as Assistant, Maps, and Play built into the infotainment systems on the LT trim and above. The Tahoe and Suburban will also now have 13 unique camera views, including some meant to help with towing. Park assist, lane-keep assist, and lane departure warning are now standard on all 2022 Tahoe and Suburbans, as is Buckle to Drive, which requires drivers and front passengers to put on their seatbelt before the SUV can be put in gear.
The Tahoe and Suburban’s corporate cousins, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, gain similar upgrades for the 2022 model year. The 6.2-liter V-8 becomes available on the AT4 trim with the dual exhaust, while the interior gains a standard 12.0-inch display across the lineup. The Google-based tech is standard in the 2022 Yukon too, and a power-sliding center console is standard on the Denali. The Yukon now comes in Redwood Metallic and the 2022 Tahoe and Suburban add Evergreen Gray Metallic, Auburn Metallic, and Dark Ash Metallic paint colors. GMC says it will share more info on the 2022 Yukon soon, and the Chevy models will begin production in October.

See the First Official Photo of the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06

Chevrolet shared the first official non-camouflaged image of the upcoming 2023 C8 Corvette Z06. The Z06 is the first of the high-performance Corvette variants, and it’ll be powered by a 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8 that should make over 600 horsepower. It will make its full debut on Tuesday, October 26th. Chevrolet will debut the new C8 Corvette Z06 on October 26th, and we’ve heard the new high-performance variant testing numerous times. But all of those cars have been heavily camouflaged. Now the company has shared the first image of the new Z06 free of anything hiding its differences compared to the C8 Stingray.

The new Z06 will be powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8 that should rev to between 8500 and 9000 rpm, make over 600 horsepower, and use an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Our spy photographers spotted Chevy testing the car alongside a Ferrari 458 Italia, which also uses a high-revving flat-plane V-8, so it’s obvious what Chevy is going for with this new Corvette variant. This photo is a standard Z06, which will have less aggressive aerodynamic elements than the available track-focused Z07 Performance package. The Z07 Performance package should include things such as a more aggressive front splitter, larger wing, stiffer suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and carbon-fiber wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.Check back here for all the details on the new Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 when the car makes its full debut on Tuesday, October 26th.

MG Maze Electric Car Concept – No Steering Wheel, Only Touchscreen

    MG Maze Electric Car Concept
The MG Maze Concept is an electric two-seater car, aimed at next generation of users – Could be controlled via a smartphone over internet
MG Motor has showcased the Maze Concept for 2021 which supposedly has been inspired by video games. It is a fully electric car concept that has been designed and conceptualised by London-based SAIC Design, a European design studio owned by MG parent company SAIC.
Same folks also designed the MG Cyberster which was revealed earlier this year at the Shanghai Motor Show. The concept is a mere design illustration as of now which has been envisioned keeping future electric vehicles in mind. This would appeal to the next generation of car buyers.
The company says it has been designed in recognition of three key principles: “Play is important. Discovery is important. Adventure is important.” The Maze concept is a result of blending the worlds of motoring and gaming.
SAIC Design has revealed that it wanted to capture the “at-home gaming scenario” and bring it to life inside a car. As mentioned earlier, it remains a digital rendering and has no plans of becoming real for now.
    [embedded content]
    Video Game-Inspired Cockpit
Maze has been designed to take part in a ‘real-world treasure hunt’ of digital art installations in cities. It takes the form of a points-based rewards system for drivers which operates in a similar fashion as any computer or console-based video game.
Entry to the cockpit can be accessed through a vertically opening glass canopy. The vertical glass canopy takes less space as compared to a normal side-opening door when open.
On entering the small cabin, one is welcomed by a pair of zero-gravity seats, a video game controller and a screen, which are more reminiscent of a personalised gaming room than a car. Instead of a steering wheel, the car is controlled by the user’s phone. Even the exterior of Maze takes inspiration from gaming with its transparent shell, exposed componentry and LED backlighting emulating the look of a high-end gaming PC.
    MG Maze Electric Car Concept
    Exterior Design
The short overhangs and extremely compact dimensions ensure great maneuverability in a congested environment. The view outside the cabin from the cockpit is clear and unobstructed thanks to the canopy glass opening. Since it is just a digital illustration, details of its hypothetical underpinnings stay under wraps.
SAIC has revealed that this concept would feature multiple electric motors coupled with a swappable battery pack. However, the carmaker did not divulge any performance figures yet. While the Maze Concept may not be seen on roads in the coming future, it does reveal what future mobility could look like. Even though the design sounds and appears whimsical, it will gather some traction on the internet. More

New KTM RC 125, 200, 390 Front Look Modified Via Render

2021 KTM RC 200 RenderKTM has introduced significant changes to its RC range across styling, features and ride dynamics
Auto companies invest a lot of time and effort to ensure their products meet customer expectations. However, as tastes and preferences vary, it’s usually not possible to get positive reaction from each and every user.
Whenever a new product is introduced, there are bound to be some negative feedback. This has been the case with KTM’s new RC range. Some users have been critical of the front fascia and fairing design of new RC range. In view of this feedback, digital artist Pratyush Rout has come up with an alternative version of new RC range.
2021 KTM RC Front Modify – Render
Primary focus of this render is to give a different front look. This is not a complete makeover project. Much of the bike has been retained in its original format. Most changes have been incorporated at the front and sides.
At the front, stock headlamp has been replaced with a sharper two LED units on each side. These are flanked by LED DRLs have a similar boomerang shape, but there are changes to its angle and placement. Windscreen is now flatter and wider and wears a blacked-out look.
    2021 KTM RC 125 Render
Another key change is the sleek rear view mirrors that have been equipped with an auxiliary set of LED lights. All these changes have helped achieve a dominating street presence for the bike. These changes have been introduced in a precise manner, so as not to disturb the aerodynamic properties of the bike.
At the sides, fairing has been expanded to merge seamlessly with the fuel tank. It fills the gaps that can be seen on original RC motorcycles. Changes to the fairing ensure a more cohesive look and feel for the bike’s components. The fairing also gets new graphics. Apart from these, rest of the bike is the same as the original version.
    KTM new RC range details
While new RC 125 and RC 200 have much in common, they have some unique features. For example, RC 125 uses LED headlamp whereas RC 200 has halogen light. Another key difference is upswept side exhaust for RC 125 and underbelly exhaust for RC 200. There are variations in colour options as well. Both bikes get an updated trellis frame with bolt-on sub-frame.
    2021 KTM RC 390 Render
Talking about suspension, RC 125 gets WP Apex open cartridge fork whereas RC 200 has WP Apex big piston fork. At the rear, both bikes get a new WP Apex shock absorber. Engine is the same as earlier for both bikes. However, KTM has carried out some tweaks to ensure higher torque delivery and faster acceleration.
Changes on RC 390 are not very different from that of RC 125 and RC 200. The bike gets a new single-piece LED headlight flanked by LED DRLs. Other components such as handlebar, front fairing, and turn indicators have been updated. A new TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity has been added. Engine is the same as earlier, but torque output has been increased to 37 Nm. This pushes the top speed of the bike by a good 11 kmph. More

Mercedes Suspended V-8 Sales over 'Quality Issue,' AMG Boss Says

When Mercedes abruptly pulled the vast majority of its V-8 models from the U.S. market for the upcoming model year, it did something not just bizarre in the conservative auto business but unheard of in any sector. It’s certainly not typical for a large automaker with huge manufacturing capacity to close the ordering books on its most popular and profitable products—especially when many of those models have recently debuted. As for why, the company can’t seem to get its story straight.Reached for comment in August when the news first broke, a Mercedes-AMG spokesperson provided the following carefully parsed statement:”The Company’s prioritized focus to comply with various global, external and internal requirements, as well as several other factors, including but not limited to challenges in the supply chain, have an impact on the offering of the product portfolio in various markets.• Mercedes-Benz is exploring every opportunity to solve the challenges at hand as soon as possible.• We will be working closely with our dealers and customers to help alleviate any inconvenience resulting from delays.• We are working on a solution as quickly as possible.• Depending on the market, this concerns different model series for model year 2022. Please understand that we will not comment further on this matter.”Ahead of the Munich IAA auto show, though, Road & Track sat down with Mercedes’s head of the Top End Vehicle Group, Philipp Schiemer. Schiemer, who oversees Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach, and the G-class, said that he couldn’t provide more info than that information-light official statement. Despite that, his response suggested a different reason than what we’ve heard so far.”I cannot provide you with more details. It’s a quality issue. We are updating our vehicles every year, and we are not satisfied with the quality. And for us it’s quality first. So we have to do some retesting and this is the process we are in at the moment. So it depends from model to model,” Schiemer said, noting that the V-8 S580 is still being offered in the U.S. “So it’s from vehicle to vehicle, from country to country a different kind of situation.”Asked whether he could elaborate on the quality issue, Schiemer replied bluntly: “No.”

The new G-class has been a massive hit for the Mercedes, with a waiting list stretching far into the future and on-lot examples carrying five- and even six-figure markups. Suspending its availability is certainly strange.
    Mercedes

Regardless, a quality issue cannot fully explain it. Because while that’d be a natural reason for an automaker to suspend production, it does not explain why the company—as a spokesperson confirmed—is extending production of the 2021 G-class despite the 2022 G-class being off-menu. It also does not explain why Aston Martin, which uses Mercedes’s 4.0-liter V-8, has confirmed that it will not be affected by this. And it certainly does not explain why this problem is different on a market-by-market basis.Supply-chain constraints are similarly unable to explain the totality of the issue, especially given that this came largely without warning and the company is still supplying Aston Martin with V-8s. That leaves the compliance angle, alluded to in the official statement and Schiemer’s comments. Most engine changes require recertification by relevant authorities, meaning that it can be a lengthy process to get a vehicle back on sale when there’s an unexpected change. American authorities, in particular, have often been slow to certify vehicles in general and especially German ones in the wake of wide-ranging emissions scandals. That may be the most likely explanation. One lingering question remains, though. Why—if it’s a bureaucratic holdup or a simple supply chain problem forcing recertification—is Mercedes being so opaque about it? We’ve reached out to the automaker for further clarification and will update when we hear back.
