    Top 10 Motorcycles 500cc+ Oct 2021 – RE 650, Ninja, Tiger, Hayabusa

    Total sales of 500cc+ bikes in October 2021 are at 1,613 units. YoY growth is down by -7.72%, as compared to 1,748 units sold in the corresponding period last year. While Royal Enfield 650 twins maintain their lead, other popular names in top ten include Kawasaki and Trident. While Kawasaki and Trident have three bikes each in top ten, Suzuki, Harley and Honda have one each. Only two bikes in top 10 have reported negative YoY growth in October 2021.
    Motorcycles 500cc+ Oct 2021 – 650 twins lead
    Topping the list is Royal Enfield 650 twins with sales of 1,236 units in October. YoY growth is down by -17.93%, as compared to 1,506 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 76.63%. 650 twins are able to produce much higher volumes than other similar bikes, as they are affordably priced in the range of Rs 2.70 lakh to Rs 3.20 lakh.
    With the success of 650 twins in both domestic and international markets, Royal Enfield will soon expand its 650 range to include a new motorcycle based on the SG650 concept. The company has also unveiled special 120th anniversary edition of 650 twins at EICMA.
    At number two is Kawasaki Z900 with sales of 58 units in October. YoY growth is 87.10%, as compared to 31 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 3.60%. Next in the list is Triumph Trident with sales of 49 units in October. Market share is at 3.04%.
    500cc+ Motorcycle Sales Oct 2021
    Trident was launched in India earlier this year in April at a starting price of Rs 6.95 lakh. The naked streetfighter gets a range of hi-tech features and is offered in four colour options. It is powered by a 660cc motor that makes 80 bhp / 64 Nm.
    Kawasaki Ninja 650 is fourth with sales of 31 units in October. YoY growth is 63.16%, as compared to 19 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 1.92%. Fifth is Hayabusa with sales of 24 units. Market share is at 1.49%. Launched in April 2021 in its BS6 format, Hayabusa has been sold out till date. The last batch opened for bookings in July was sold out within a record 1 hour. The second batch had 100 units on sale.
    Triumph Tiger 900 sales double
    Placed at sixth place, Triumph Tiger 900 sales are at 22 units in October. YoY growth is 120.00%, as compared to 10 units sold in October last year. This is the highest YoY growth in top 10 in percentage terms. Tiger 900 market share is at 1.36%.

    Honda Sales, Exports Breakup Oct 2021 – Activa, Shine, Dio, Dream, CB350

    Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), the country’s second largest two wheeler maker has seen its domestic sales dip 20.19 percent in the past month. Festive sales were well below expectations while rising petrol prices also caused buyers to rethink their purchase plans.
    However, the company is targeting sales of 3 lakh units per annum over the next 3 years. Aiding this target will be two new products – CB350 and CB350RS – recently launched in the mid-weight motorcycle segment. HMSI also has 70 Big Wing outlets and plans to expand their presence to 300 customer touch points over the next 3 years and 100 Big Wing outlets to cover top 50 units in operation areas by end of this fiscal.

    Honda Two Wheeler Sales in the past month dipped 20.19 percent YoY. Sales which had stood at 4,94,459 units in October 2020 dipped to 3,94,645 units. It was the Honda Activa that contributed most figures to these total sales. There were 1,96,699 units of the Activa scooter sold last month, down 17.89 percent over 2,39,570 units sold in October 2020. The Activa scooter commands a 49.84 percent share in the company lineup and was the second best-selling two wheeler in India last month following the Hero Splendor.
    At No. 2 was the Honda CB Shine with sales of 1,13,554 units last month, down 4.21 percent over 1,18,547 units sold in October 2020. Dio sales also dipped on a YoY basis by 41.79 percent to 25,641 units, down from 44,046 units sold in October 2020.

    Honda Dream, Livo and Grazia each posted a YoY de-growth. Dream sales dipped marginally to 22,407 units while Livo sales fell 23.97 percent to 13,075 units and Grazia sales were down 27.52 percent to 8,321 units.
    Even as Honda Unicorn 160 sales dipped 75 percent YoY to 7,077 units, the company reported a 454.42 percent growth in terms of Hness 350 sales. Sales stood at 1,290 units in October 2020 increasing to 7,152 units in the past month. Honda CB200X (693 units), CBR650 (13 units) and CB5000 (9 units) also contributed to total sales last month while there were 3 units of the Africa Twin and 1 unit of the CB300R sold.

    In export markets, HMSI fared better with a 14.86 percent YoY growth. Exports stood at 37,584 units last month, up from 32,721 units shipped in October 2020. It was the Navi scooter that commanded significant attention in global markets with 12,946 units exported, up 31.14 percent over 9,872 units sold in October 2020.

    Dio exports increased 30.08 percent to 7,962 units up from 6,121 units sold in October 2020 while XBlade shipments stood at 3,612 units, up 2.35 percent over 3,529 units of October 2020. Honda Dream Yuga premium commuter motorcycle exports surged 978.33 percent to 2,588 units last month, up from 240 units in October 2020.
    Exports of Honda CB Shine and Hornet 160R dipped 38.71 percent and 46.09 percent respectively to 2,289 units and 1,908 units respectively. Highest export growth was seen in the case of Honda CB350 with a 5020 percent YoY growth to 1,536 units, up from 30 units exported in October 2020. This bike is regaled as the torquiest bike in its class while it returns fuel efficiency of close to 38 km/l.
    Honda Unicorn 160 and Activa exports also increased 18.32 percent and 130.34 percent YoY to 1,536 units and 1,078 units while exports of Grazia dipped 76.45 percent YoY to 801 units in October 2021. HMSI also experienced higher exports for the Livo commuter bike with a 300 percent YoY increase to 800 units while Aviator added 360 units to total exports last month and Hornet 2.0 saw exports of 88 units. Unicorn 150 exports dipped 50 percent while CB Twister failed to record any exports even as 130 units had been shipped in October 2020. More

    BMW Brings Back Classic Logo, Historic Colors for M Division's 50th Anniversary

    For the 50th anniversary of the M brand, which started as BMW Motorsport, BMW will bring back a classic logo for some models as well as 50 old colors including Daytona Violet and Macao Blue.The “BMW Motorsport” emblem puts three specific semicircles in blue, violet, and red around the BMW roundel to represent how the automaker is connected to racing.These new old features will be available by request starting in January, and the first models built with the old logos will come off the line in March.UPDATE 11/27/21, 4 p.m.: In the U.S., BMW will make the newly announced anniversary badging standard on its M division high-performance models including the M3 and M4, and it will be an option on M340i, M440i, and other M models. However, unlike in other markets, vehicles with the M Sport package are not eligible for the historic badging, a BMW spokesperson said today.BMW is bringing back a performance logo from its racing past along with a large number of old-school paint colors to celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW Motorsport.     BMW announced this week it will once again offer the classic BMW Motorsport emblem on selected models next year, but you’ll have to be the kind of person who asks for it. First, the new old logo will only be available by request. Second, you will have to buy a new M model. Whatever you choose, only orders for new BMWs placed starting at the end of January 2022 will be able to be outfitted with the new old emblem, and the first cars built with the classic logo will be built starting in March.

    The new emblem—inspired by the classic BMW Motorsport logo—will replace the standard blue and white roundel on the vehicle’s front and rear and on the wheel hubs. The BMW Motorsport logo surrounds the brand’s standard logo with blue, violet, and red semicircle lines. This version was first used in 1973 on BMW Motorsport’s racing cars. BMW says the colors represent BMW (blue), racing (red), and the way the two are connected (violet).On top of the trip to the history books for the way its new vehicles will look, BMW said 2022 will be an exciting year. Exactly what that encompasses has not yet been revealed.”We have a great year ahead of us, which will be celebrated with unique product highlights and exciting performances,” said Franciscus van Meel, chairman of the board of management of BMW M, in a statement. “The M has long been considered the strongest letter in the world, and in our company’s anniversary year it is stronger than ever.”

    When it comes to exterior paint options, BMW said it will reintroduce what it calls “50 iconic and historically significant BMW M paint finishes” on selected models next year. The list includes Dakar Yellow, Fire Orange, Daytona Violet, Macao Blue, Imola Red, and Frozen Marina Bay Blue. These old paint options will be available on some new options next year, including the first M3 Touring model and the M4 Coupé series.At some point in 2022, BMW will also introduce the successor to the M2, and it will launch the “first electrified high-performance model in the history of BMW M GmbH.”

    Hero Sales, Exports Breakup Oct 2021 – Splendor, Passion, Pleasure, Destini, Xpulse

    Hero MotoCorp reported a 33.30 percent de-growth in domestic sales to 5,27,779 units, down from 7,91,137 units sold in October 2020. Exports saw some increase YoY from 15,711 units sold in October 2020 to 20,191 units sold in the past month relating to a 28.52 percent growth.

    Every model posted a YoY de-growth in domestic markets except for the Xpulse 200. Topping the domestic sales charts was Hero Splendor with 2,67,821 units sold, down 15.19 percent over 3,15,798 units sold in October 2020. Hero Splendor currently holds a 50.75 percent share in company lineup. Splendor was the best-selling two wheeler in Oct 2021 while Honda Activa came in second.
    At No. 2 was HF Deluxe with YoY de-growth of 29.50 percent to 1,64,311 units, down from 2,33,061 units sold in October 2020 with a 31.14 percent share. Hero Glamour and Pleasure also posted a 67.28 percent and 7.16 percent de-growth respectively, down to 25,663 units and 21,716 units in October 2021. Hero Passion and Destini 125 also saw lower YoY sales down 76.61 percent and 51.72 percent respectively to 17,666 units and 12,898 units respectively in October 2021.
    Lower down the order, even as Hero Xtreme 160R and Maestro posted a 44.56 percent and 70.25 percent de-growth, Hero Xpulse saw increased demand to the extent of 54.27 percent YoY. Sales which had stood at 2,473 units, increased to 3,815 units in the past month.

    Hero Hunk was in top form in global markets last month. Sales increased 1627.09 percent YoY to 8,480 units, up from 491 units exported in October 2020. HF Deluxe also saw positive growth in a YoY basis by 97.77 percent to 4,974 units up from 2,515 units sold in October 2020. Hero Splendor exports dipped 43.64 percent to 2,982 units last month, down from 5,291 units shipped in October 2020. Glamour was another model in the company lineup to see better results with a 60.86 percent YoY growth to 2,770 units.
    Likewise, the company’s Pleasure bike also saw increased demand in global markets to the extent of 58.54 percent to 260 units while Xtreme 160/200 shipments increased from 36 units to 80 units YoY. Destini 125 exports dipped 50 percent to 60 units while Achiever, Xtreme 150, Duet and Passion have been discontinued.

    Domestic sales increased 4.30 percent on a MoM basis to 5,27,723 units, up from 5,05,946 units sold in September 2021. Once again it was the Splendor that took a first spot on the list with 2,67,821 units sold, down 3.60 percent over 2,77,836 units sold in September 2021.

    Domestic sales of the HF Deluxe increased 22.13 percent to 1,64,311 units in a MoM basis while that of Glamour dipped 4.48 percent to 25,663 units, down from 26,866 units sold in September 2021. Thereafter, Pleasure (21,716 units), Passion (17,666 units) and Destini 125 (12,898 units) all posted a MoM growth as did Xtreme 160R (6,919 units), Maestro (6,914 units) and Xpulse 200 (3,815 units).
    Exports on a MoM basis dipped 18.86 percent to 20,191 units, down from 24,883 units shipped in September 2021. It was the Hunk that ruled the list with 8,480 units exported last month, up 21.16 percent over 6,999 units shipped in September 2021.
    Hero HF Deluxe also posted a 2.70 percent growth in MoM exports to 4,974 units, up from 4,843 units exported in September 2021. Exports dipped for Hero Splendor, Glamour and Xpulse 200 and Maestro and Xtreme 160/200 while that of Hero Pleasure increased substantially by 140.74 percent to 260 units over 108 units shipped in September 2021.     New Tata Altroz Test Mules Spied Near Pune – Electric Or CNG?

    Mass-market carmakers are toying with several ideas for alternate fuels and hence companies will be introducing CNG-powered variants of many models in near future. Tata Motors is one brand that will expand its CNG lineup very soon with the launch of multiple CNG cars.
    The stepping stone is most probably going to be laid by Altroz CNG which has been spotted testing on numerous occasions in recent months. Test mules of the premium hatchback have been spotted yet again in a fully disguised avatar. It could be either the Altroz CNG or the Altroz Electric.
    New Tata Altroz Test Mules
    The latest spy shots are credit to automotive enthusiast Susheel Arde and have been clicked somewhere near Pune. Since the test prototype is fully covered under camouflage there is no evidence of any styling update. Spy shots also reveal interiors of the cabin.
    The interiors look fairly similar to the regular petrol and diesel variants of Altroz with the same dashboard layout and seat upholstery. It gets the same 7.0-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment display and air-con vents below it. The centre panel gets ‘Altroz’ lettering in bold. It also features the same centre console tunnel comprising auto climate control, cubby hole, gear selector and driver’s armrest.

    Altroz Electric or Altroz CNG – Features on offer
    Other features present in Altroz’s equipment include a semi-digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, cruise control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and iRA connected car tech. Standard safety features include dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and rear parking sensors.
    The test mule seen in the latest spy pics appears to be the top-spec XZ+ trim since it features the same alloy wheel design and features. In all likelihood, CNG variants on Altroz are likely to be introduced on mid-spec XT trim onwards. It is likely to be priced at a premium of Rs 30,000 over its corresponding petrol-powered variant.
    Altroz Electric premium hatchback will be based on the brand’s Ziptron powertrain that features a larger battery unit. The Altroz EV is still in its early stages of production and could get a claimed range of over 300 kms on a full charge.
    2022 Tata Altroz Electric or CNG?
    Altroz Powertrain Options
    Currently, Altroz is offered three engine options. A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine kicks out 85 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. A 1.5-litre diesel unit churns out 89 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The third option is a 1.2-litre turbo petrol mill which dishes out 109 bhp and 140 Nm of peak torque. All three motors come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. There are also plans to launch an automatic gearbox with Altroz.
    Altroz CNG is expected to be launched sometime next year although its exact launch timeline is not yet known.     Looking to replicate the level of success achieved with Jawa motorcycles in India, Mahindra-owned Classic Legends will soon introduce BSA brand in UK. The formal unveil event is scheduled to take place at the Motorcycle Live Show in Birmingham, UK.
    Classic Legends will be revisiting BSA’s origins to establish a better connect with the brand’s glorious past and its ambitious resurrection in 21st century. It will be interesting to see how enthusiasts in UK, Europe and other global markets respond to the return of the legendary motorcycle brand.
    BSA motorcycle details
    To ensure it retains its old-world charm, BSA motorcycle will focus on retro styling. It is expected to have features like round headlamp, tear-drop shaped fuel tank, flat and wide handlebar and broad front and rear fenders. Some variants could be equipped with spoke wheels for enhanced retro experience.
    Liberal use of chrome can be expected on parts like headlamp, fuel tank, exhaust pipe and engine casing. To target enthusiasts with contemporary tastes, specific variants could be introduced in blacked-out theme.
    BSA Motorcycles Global Debut Countdown Timer
    Neo-retro styling used in combination with blacked-out theme almost always results in a gorgeous looking bike. Jawa Perak is a good example, which fascinates a broad spectrum of motorcycle enthusiasts with varying tastes and preferences.
    BSA has plans to manufacture both petrol-powered and electric motorcycles. The first BSA motorcycle could be petrol-powered, equipped with a 650cc motor. Among the rivals will be Royal Enfield 650 twins that have emerged as popular options in several global markets. BSA motorcycles will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Midlands. The company will also setup a technical and design centre in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
    BSA electric range could be introduced next year. Classic Legends has received a grant of £4.6 million (~ INR 46 crore) from UK government for setting up an R&D centre. This facility will focus exclusively on developing electric motorcycles. It’s imperative for BSA to focus on electric segment, as many European countries are aggressively targeting a complete shift to electric ecosystem.

    It is unlikely that BSA motorcycles will be introduced in India soon. A key reason is that the brand has better chance of success in UK, where the motorcycles were produced and gained popularity. Second reason pertains to legal aspects, wherein BSA Cycles is already functional in Indian market. This may present trademark issues if Classic Legends decides to launch BSA motorcycles in India.

    Watch the $2 Million Rimac Nevera Slide Around in the Mud

    If there’s one thing we’d bet no production Rimac Nevera will do, it’s slide around in the mud. Most will be sparingly driven on pavement through perfect weather to local Cars & Coffee events, only to be tucked into climate-controlled garages all other days of the week. The pre-production car you see above is set to be used as a crash test mule for U.S. homologation, so company founder Mate Rimac figured he’d give it a proper sendoff by drifting it around the dirt and mud.

    This dark-blue Nevera is Rimac’s first pre-series car, meaning it was the first car to come off the production line. It’s used to make sure everything would go smoothly once production actually kicks off. It’s been put through dozens of track and road tests, as well as customer previews, media drives, and show events. He doesn’t hold back one bit, pulling off massive slides through the dirt and slinging tons of mud right at the camera. By the end of the day, the whole car was covered. It’s unlikely any future Nevera owner would do this with their own car, so we’re glad Mate was brave enough to have a bit of fun in this one before it’s inevitably driven into a wall at high speed.

    Bajaj Sales, Exports Oct 2021 – Pulsar, Dominar, Avenger, Platina, CT100

    Bajaj Pulsar NS160Bajaj Auto domestic sales and exports suffered de-growth in Oct 2021 – Pulsar continues to enjoy good demand in domestic and global markets
    Bajaj Auto has reported a 26.62 percent de-growth in domestic sales while exports dipped 4.03 percent YoY. Domestic sales last month stood at 1,91,607 units, down from 2,61,115 units sold in October 2020. Exports on the other hand fell 4.03 percent to 1,89,330 units, down from 1,97,287 units shipped in October 2020.
    Bajaj Sales Breakup Oct 2021 – Pulsar Regains lead
    Despite a YoY de-growth, Bajaj Pulsar range saw the highest demand in domestic market. Sales which had stood at 1,38,218 units in October 2020, dipped 37.42 percent to 86,500 units in the past month with share percentage at 45.14 percent. In Sep 2021, Pulsar had lost its lead as the No 1 selling Bajaj brand in India. In Oct 2021, it has bounced back to the top spot.
    In the Pulsar range, it was the 125cc range that saw highest demand at 48,662 units, down 25.87 percent over 65,648 units sold in October 2020. There were also the Pulsar 150cc that contributed 24,495 units to October 2021 sales. It has recently been revealed that Bajaj Auto Limited will be phasing out its current range of Pulsar motorcycles and replace it with new gen.
    Bajaj Platina sales saw a YoY growth of 37.96 percent to 84,109 units, up from 60,967 units sold in October 2020. Bajaj Platina’s 100 cc engine offers excellent mileage over its rivals and is hence sought after especially within the country where fuel prices remain high.

    Thereafter, Bajaj CT (18,084 units), Dominar (1,092 units) and Avenger (987 units) sales dipped YoY. It was the Avenger 250cc that saw higher demand at 983 unit as compared to the Avenger 200cc of which only 4 units were sold last month. Dominar 400 sales were at 1,091 units while only 1 unit of the Dominar 250 was sold last month.
    Bajaj Chetak sales on the other hand noted a marked YoY increase at 223.64 percent to 835 units, up from 258 units sold in October 2020. The Bajaj Chetak competes with the TVS iQube and will soon see a new rival from Hero MotoCorp with the name ‘VIDA’ recently registered.

    Bajaj Auto Limited recorded a dip in exports by 4.03 percent YoY in October 2021. Total exports dipped to 1,89,330 units in the past month, down from 1,97,287 units shipped in October 2020.

    In global markets, it was the Bajaj Boxer that saw most demand. Sales in the past month stood at 1,15,944 units, down 6.33 percent over 1,23,778 units shipped in October 2020. Boxer 110cc exports stood at 92,400 units while Boxer 150cc shipments were to the tune of 17,288 units. 6,256 units of the Boxer 125cc made up the balance exports.
    Pulsar exports stood at 26,711 units last month, down 17.57 percent over 32,406 units shipped in October 2020. Of this brand, it was the Pulsar 150-200cc that saw most exports at 11,682 units while of the 150cc model, exports stood at 10,106 units last month.
    Bajaj Auto reported growth in the case of the CT and Discover which increased 21.26 percent and 24.03 percent respectively in October 2021. CT 110cc exports stood at 10,304 units while there were 8,928 units of the CT125cc shipped last month.
    Discover 125cc saw more demand in global markets at 13,980 units over its 110cc counterpart of which 5,760 units were exported. While Platina exports dipped 51.18 percent YoY to 2,982 units over 6,108 units shipped in October 2020, that of Dominar and Avenger increased 40.53 percent and 167.94 percent respectively YoY. More
