    Royal Enfield Classic 350 Recalled Over Braking Issue – 26k Units Affected

    A few days after the roll-out of 100,000th unit of the new gen 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycle, the company has now announced a recall. The 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350 Recall has affected 26,300 motorcycles which were made between Sep and Dec this year.

    As per Royal Enfield, their technical team has discovered a potential issue in one of the parts – the brake reaction bracket attached to the motorcycle swing arm – used specifically on the 2021 single-channel ABS and rear drum brake Classic 350 motorcycles.
    They further add – Under specific riding conditions, it was discovered that exceptionally higher braking load applied on the rear brake pedal could lead to potential damage of the reaction bracket, which could further lead to unusual braking noise, and potential deterioration of braking efficiency in extreme conditions.
    The issue has only been found in Classic 350 motorcycles with rear drum brake and single channel ABS. All other motorcycle variants are not affected by this issue and are not part of the latest Royal Enfield recall.

    Affected Owners
    Over the next few days, Royal Enfield and their dealerships will start contact owners of the motorcycles which are part of this recall. These owners will have to bring in their motorcycle to the dealership, where Royal Enfield will “reinforce the brake reaction bracket of the swing arm for all units.”
    Proactively, owners of Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycles can also check if their vehicle is part of this recall by checking with local dealers / workshops or by calling RE customer care. You can also check the same by visiting Royal Enfield website.
    Earlier Royal Enfield Recall
    This is not the first time Royal Enfield is recalling vehicles in 2021. Earlier in May this year, Royal Enfield had announced a recall which had affected over 2.3 lakh motorcycles. In that recall, it was the Bullet, Classic (old-gen) and Meteor that were affected. That recall was due to manufacturing defect in ignition coil.
    Speaking about the recalls, Royal Enfield says – “At Royal Enfield, we have robust and rigorous testing and development protocols, and adhere to global validation standards of quality and durability. However, issues like this can arise under specific, extreme riding conditions, and we are committed to resolving this at the soonest, with minimum inconvenience for our customers.” More

    Top 10 Two Wheeler Exports – Boxer, FZ, Pulsar, Apache, Hunk, Dio

    A total of 3,72,536 units were exported in October 2021, as compared to 3,69,273 units in the corresponding period last year. In top ten, four two-wheelers have negative YoY growth. If we consider the top 20 most exported two-wheelers, the ones with negative growth count to a total of six.
    Bajaj continues to dominate two-wheeler exports with four of its bikes listed in top 10. Collectively, Bajaj bikes in top ten command more than 47% share in two-wheeler exports in October. TVS and Honda have two products each whereas Yamaha and Hero have one each in top ten.

    Just like in previous months, Bajaj Boxer continues to be the most exported made-in-India two-wheeler. A total of 1,09,688 units were exported in October. YoY growth is down by -9.37%, as compared to 1,21,026 units exported in October last year. Percentage share in exports is at 29.44%.
    Next in the list is TVS Star City with exports of 51,807 units in October. YoY growth has slumped -1.84%, as compared to 52,776 units exported in October last year. Star City had 13.91% share in exports.

    At number three is Bajaj Pulsar with exports of 26,711 units in October. YoY growth is down by -17.57%, as compared to 32,406 units exported in October last year. Pulsar share in exports is at 7.17%.
    In October, Bajaj had launched 250cc Pulsars, N250 and F250. Launch price was Rs 1.38 lakh and Rs 1.40 lakh, respectively. Deliveries of these new Pulsar bikes have already commenced. In the future, it is possible that the company may launch a fully-faired Pulsar 250 named RS250.
    Next in the list is Bajaj Discover with exports of 19,740 units in October. YoY growth is at 24.03%, as compared to 15,916 units exported in October last year. Share in exports is at 5.30%. At number five is Bajaj CT with exports of 19,232 units in October. YoY growth is up by 18.10%, as compared to 16,284 units exported in October last year. Share in exports is at 5.16%.

    Hero Hunk makes impressive gains
    In top ten, Hero Hunk has highest YoY growth in percentage terms. It is placed at 9th spot in the list with exports of 8,480 units in October. YoY growth has improved by a whopping 1627.09%, as compared to 491 units exported in October last year. Share in exports is at 2.28%.
    Hunk 160R was recently launched in Argentina along with Xpulse 200. Hero MotoCorp’s Argentina operations are being carried out in partnership with Gilera Motors Argentina. Hero will be aggressively targeting this South American country, as it has significant potential for growth.
    At number six, Honda Navi has also registered appreciable gain of 31.14%. Exports are up from 9,872 units in October last year to 12,946 units in October 2021. Other two-wheelers in top 10 include TVS Apache (12,549 units), Yamaha FZ (10,603) and Honda Dio (7,962). While Apache has negative YoY growth of -3.90%, FZ and Dio have posted positive numbers at 4.30% and 30.08%, respectively. More

    A new NBC sitcom called American Auto looks at the struggles of 100-year-old Payne Motors as it tries to navigate the world of self-driving cars and other 2021 industry challenges.The producers and actors have ties to The Office, Superstore, and Saturday Night Live, so rest assured that they’re not as bumbling as the characters they play.Two episodes are out now on Hulu and iTunes, with NBC’s official start of the series coming on January 4.Workplace television comedies can be genius, as The Office and 30 Rock proved. They can also fall flat and disappear before anyone can pay attention enough to remember them (if you can name the early-1990s doctor’s-office sitcom that featured a young Ellen DeGeneres without Google’s help, you’re in the minority). With two episodes already out ahead of the January 4 debut, you can be the judge as to which category the new NBC sitcom called American Auto belongs in.

    As the name might give away, American Auto is about a car company, in this case the fictional 100-year-old company Payne Motors. While the setting is a Detroit-based automaker (and there’s a joke about a former CEO being anti-Semitic that more than hints at Henry Ford), it’s still a relatively standard Hollywood workplace comedy. The cold open to the first episode is pretty damn funny, though, if you’ve ever wondered if the Chevy Nova naming debacle might repeat itself today.

    The show has a strong production pedigree. Its creator, Justin Spitzer, previously worked as a writer on The Office and also created the sitcom Superstore, which followed a group of workers at a Walmart-like big box store. The cast is led by former Saturday Night Live star Ana Gasteyer, who plays the new CEO of Payne Motors, and Jon Barinholtz as the grandson of the retired Payne Motors CEO. Barinholtz was also in Superstore.Spitzer has been working on American Auto on and off since 2013, before Superstore. While that show was about the workers, American Auto is more about the executives. Early in the development work, he said, it didn’t even matter which industry the executives worked for.”The fact that it’s the auto industry came later,” Spitzer told Deadline. “I just wanted it to be about a big multibillion-dollar American industry.”

    Barinholtz said this focus on the higher-ups gives American Auto a different vibe than Superstore, even if the creators and actors tried to put some of the same quirky heart into the new show.”Just because [the execs are the] decision makers doesn’t make them any more capable than the workers whose decisions they’re affecting,” he told the Detroit Free Press. “So we see how these decisions are made, and it’s not with as much thought as you would hope it is, if you’re a worker. It’s sometimes kind of just flying by the seat of their pants.”Be that as it may, based on the pilot episode, American Auto is up to date with issues in the modern auto industry. The episode features development and testing of a self-driving car called the Payne Ponderosa that has no brake pedal, with dangerous results. The second episode explores the idea of whether all publicity is good publicity after a serial killer makes another of the company’s vehicles, the Payne Magellan, famous after using it in a crime. You know, just feel-good family fun.The first two episodes of American Auto aired on NBC this past week, before the season kicks off for real on January 4.     2022 Jawa Cruiser 350 Render Based On New Spy Shots – 5 Colours

    2022 Jawa Cruiser 350 – RenderUpon its launch, the Jawa cruiser will directly lock horns with Royal Enfield Meteor 350
    Classic Legends has its hands full as the company is currently at war footing to revive two iconic brands BSA and Yezdi. At the same time, the bikemaker is also focussing on expanding its lineup under the Jawa brand. The next big launch from the Jawa portfolio is expected to be a cruiser.
    This cruiser has been spotted on multiple occasions in recent months and it has now been digitally rendered by design artist Pratyush Rout. The motorcycle is expected to share its underpinnings with Perak which is a bobber-style cruiser. However, the upcoming bike shown in the images below represents a more conventional cruiser.

    The illustration shown has been created on basis of the spy shots which have emerged online recently. As usual, Classic Legends have adopted a retro styling for the cruiser with highlights such as a round headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank and circular rearview mirrors. In line with the spied test mules, the bike in this digital illustration gets broad rear fenders.
    Other styling highlights such as round taillamp and turn indicators, fork gaiters and split-style seats give the motorcycle a modern classic appeal. The design artist has incorporated some special touches in order to lend the cruiser a distinct identity. For starters, the fuel tank flaunts the signature Jawa insignia with a 3D emblem. The side toolbox panel features three stripes and a ‘350’ numerical signifying its engine size.

    While fuel tank and side panel have been painted deep red, rest of the parts including mechanical components, running gear and exhaust have dipped in black colour which ensures a sporty dual-tone theme. Unlike the current Jawa models, the upcoming cruiser will only get a single exhaust pipe.
    Comfortable Ergonomics
    Although it is unlikely to be a proper conventional cruiser, it is deemed to offer comfortable riding ergonomics thanks to a tall and wide handlebar, a low saddle and centre-set footpegs. The bike is seen standing on black multi-spoke alloy wheels of different sizes. The rear tyre seems fatter than the front which should aid long-distance cruising.
    The thick padding of foam under the seat should further enhance riding pleasure. Since ride comfort is an optimum priority in this class of motorcycles, the Jawa cruiser is expected to be softly sprung. Suspension duties are expected to be handled by conventional telescopic forks at front and dual shock absorbers at rear. Braking duties will be taken care of by single disc brakes at both ends aided by dual-channel ABS.
    Expected Powertrain Specs
    The upcoming Jawa cruiser is expected to be powered by a 334cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC engine. This unit also propels Perak and pushes out 30 bhp and 32.74 Nm of peak torque in the bobber. The motor will be paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch. More

    To celebrate Royal Enfield’s 120th anniversary and their mutual interests, both companies have tied up for a special partnership. The collaboration extends across various fronts including development of a Belstaff branded Continental GT. This has now been unveiled in UK.

    This project focuses on cosmetic enhancements. Belstaff-branded Continental GT gets a dual-tone theme of black and white. The white shade can be seen on the fuel tank, seat mount, and side panels. Belstaff logo in white and matching design in black are there on the front section of fuel tank.
    To establish a strong connect with the ride and rider’s clothing, the bike gets special fabric seat cover in quilted pattern. It has Royal Enfield 120th anniversary branding and a small label with British flag. This fabric has also been used for fuel tank knee pads. Top section of fuel tank gets the fabric highlight as well with Royal Enfield 120th anniversary and Belstaff branding.

    Shades of white used on the bike create an exciting contrast with the blacked-out bits. A number of components have been blacked-out such as engine, gear and brake levers, and rear suspension. For a more refined look, chrome bits have been removed from various parts such as headlamp and tail lamp. Most other components such as handlebar, fork gaiters, front fender, exhaust and wheels appear to be largely untouched.
    Changes introduced with Belstaff branded Continental GT look absolutely stunning. They are also practical and can be introduced in the form of a special edition. A limited edition, at least, can surely work for enthusiasts. This new theme looks refreshing, as compared to existing colour options of Rocker Red, Mr Clean, Dux Deluxe, British Racing Green and Ventura Storm.
    However, Royal Enfield says that Belstaff branded Continental GT is “just a one off special”. But enthusiasts could always get it done via a customization shop. Original Belstaff fabric may not be accessible, but finding matching ones shouldn’t be a big problem.

    Cycle parts are the same for Belstaff branded bike. Royal Enfield Continental GT is powered by a 648cc, parallel twin motor that generates 47 bhp of max power at 7,150 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox.
    The bike utilizes a tubular steel frame with bolted trussing, integrated with 41mm front forks and twin coil-over shocks at rear. It has 18-inch spoke wheels at both ends.     Suzuki Sales, Exports Nov 2021 – Access, Burgman, Gixxer, Intruder

    Two wheeler sales in India are on the decline over past several months. Rising fuel prices, an overall dismal scenario across the segment and increased impetus to the electric two wheeler segment has resulted in lower sales of petrol powered two wheelers. Shortage of semi-conductors has also had an impact on production of premium bikes.
    Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, has released their sales report for November 2021. It may be seen from the attached tables that while domestic sales dipped marginally in the past month, exports have surged on a YoY basis. However, taking into account MoM sales, de-growth was seen both in the case of domestic sales and exports.

    Total domestic sales in November 2021 stood at 55,662 units, down 6.12 percent over 59,288 units sold in November 2020. Every model in the company lineup posted a de-growth except for the Burgman.
    Leading domestic sales charts was Suzuki Access with 42,481 units sold, down 6.80 percent over 45,582 units sold in November 2020. The Access scooter currently holds a 76.32 percent share. It even stood at No.9 on the list of best-selling scooters in the past month. On a MoM basis, the Access posted an 8.54 percent de-growth over 46,450 units sold in October 2020 though share was higher at 81.80 percent.

    Suzuki Burgman was at No.2 with increased sales both on YoY and MoM basis. Sales stood at 11,248 units in the past month, up from 9,078 units sold in November 2020 while MoM sales grew 56.24 percent over 7,199 units sold in October 2021. In the list of top 10 scooter sales last month, the Burgman was at No. 6.
    Suzuki Gixxer sales dipped 20.51 percent YoY to 1,705 units, down from 2,145 units sold in November 2020. MoM sales also fell 38.56 percent over 2,775 units sold in October 2021. Of the Gixxer 250, sales dipped massively to just 185 units, down 91.91 percent over 2,286 units sold in November 2020 while MoM sales fell 27.45 percent from 255 units sold in October 2021. The Gixxer 250 competes with Bajaj Pulsar 250 and Yamaha FZ25 but is priced significantly higher among them.
    Hayabusa sales stood at 17 units last month down from 24 units sold in October 2021 while Intruder and V-Strom 650 sales dipped 91.35 percent and 16.67 percent YoY to 16 units and 10 units respectively.

    Suzuki two wheeler performance in global markets were somewhat better. Exports increased 45.77 percent in November 2021 to 9,905 units, up from 6,795 units shipped in November 2020. MoM exports however, dipped 20.13 percent from 12,401 units shipped in October 2021.
    In global markets, all models in the company lineup posted a YoY growth except for Hayate and Lets. Gixxer shipments stood at 6,294 units, up 37.66 percent over 4,571 units shipped in November 2020 while MoM sales increased 3.32 percent from 6,092 units sold in October 2021. Burgman and Gixxer 250 exports increased 331.84 percent and 173 percent YoY to 2,211 units and 1,264 units respectively. MoM shipments saw the Burgman suffer a 55.78 percent de-growth over 5,000 units shipped in October 2021 while Gixxer 250 exports surged 232.63 percent from 380 units shipped in October 2021.
    Exports of Suzuki Intruder increased two fold YoY to 96 units, up from 64 units sold in November 2020 while MoM shipments dipped 44.83 percent from 174 units sold in October 2021.     Citroën's My Ami Buggy Concept Is the Safari-Style City Car of Our Dreams

    French automaker Citroën has revealed this beach-buggy version of its electric Ami city car.The Ami is not just for Europe, though, despite its diminutive size. It will be coming to the U.S. in the car-sharing fleet of startup Free2Move, which is part of Citroën parent company PSA.Citroën said its My Ami Buggy concept is “one of the many faces that could be developed for Ami,” meaning it may not be ruled out for production someday.Citroën answers a question we never knew to ask with its recently revealed My Ami Buggy concept. As its name implies, the My Ami Buggy is, well, a theoretical beach-buggy variant of the brand’s Ami electric city car, a model that’s due to arrive in the United States as part of the fleet of vehicles used by the car-sharing service Free2Move.

    Although Citroën is mum on the My Ami Buggy’s powertrain details, the French brand likely carries over the run-of-the-mill Ami’s lone 8-hp electric motor and 5.5-kWh battery pack to this tough but tiny safari-style Ami. Given its knobby tires and additional kit, such as its roof-mounted light bar and spare tire, we wager the My Ami Buggy is even slower than its stock sibling, which leisurely accelerates to a top speed of 28 mph. Same goes for the My Ami Buggy’s driving range, which we imagine falls a bit short of the Ami’s estimated 43-mile figure.Even so, the My Ami Buggy concept makes up for its likely acceleration- and range-related shortcomings by looking so damn cool. Credit the car’s safari-style treatment that makes this little electric vehicle look ready to take on the world’s toughest terrain (whether it’s capable of successfully doing so is a different story).
    It also helps that the My Ami Buggy ditches the Ami’s doors to make way for chic tubular decor along the sills. Don’t worry, Citroën fits the My Ami Buggy with a set of deployable transparent canvas covers to keep occupants dry in the event of a rainstorm.     1986 Nissan Bluebird Gets a Leaf EV Powertrain from Nissan U.K.

    Nissan U.K. has modified a 1986 Bluebird (we know it as the Sentra) and made it into an electric car.The electrifying parts are added from Nissan’s Leaf EV.Fortunately, changes to the exterior were very minor, and the 1980s-vintage graphics remain.The trend of automakers putting modern electric powertrains into their vintage vehicles continues, this time with Nissan. The Japanese automaker’s British arm has performed the swap on a 1986 Bluebird (our Nissan Sentra) to commemorate 35 years of U.K. auto production. Just as Nissan established a U.S. factory in Smyrna, Tennessee, in the 1980s, the company also set up a U.K. assembly plant at Sunderland, which began churning out Bluebirds in 1986. Today, Sunderland builds the Nissan Leaf, so a Bluebird/Leaf mashup neatly bookends the factory’s history.

    The repowered Bluebird hatchback uses a Leaf motor and 40.0-kWh battery pack, with the cells divided between the cargo area and under the hood. Additional modifications extended to the car’s HVAC, brakes, suspension, power steering, and lighting. The charging port is located behind the original fuel-filler flap, and the stock fuel gauge shows the battery’s state of charge. The exterior is largely unchanged other than LED taillights, LED backlighting for the Nissan badge, and a set of unmistakably ’80s graphics.

    The Nissan Newbird joins a parade of vintage cars that have been restored and converted to battery propulsion by their makers. They include Hyundai’s 1970s Pony and the follow-up ’80s Grandeur, the Opel Manta GSe, the Ford F-100 Eluminator pickup, and Chevy’s K5 Blazer, the latter two being SEMA builds that showcased an EV crate motor.
