Royal Enfield Classic 350 Modified Cruiser – USD Forks, Red Colour

Royal Enfield Classic 350 Modified CruiserRoyal Enfield bikes like Classic 350 are preferred by modifiers owing to their simple architecture and easy availability of aftermarket componentsIn a recent project by Eimor Customs, a Royal Enfield Classic 350 has undergone a cruiser-like transformation. A number of customizations have been carried out including cosmetic enhancements as well as functional updates. While Classic 350 is already popular for its timeless design, this modified version appears to make a better connect with enthusiasts. It has been aptly named as ‘Enigma’ by the modifier.Classic 350 Enigma custom detailsWhat immediately grabs our attention is the matte metallic red paint job. While the front and rear fenders get an even shade, the fuel tank and side utility box have a combo of red and gradient black. This ensures a seamless integration with the rest of the bike, which wears a largely blacked-out look. Most other components have been blacked-out including the engine, chassis, exhaust, and wheels.Fenders at both ends have been shortened and customized to achieve a tyre hugging profile. In comparison, stock Classic 350 looks more retro with its broad fenders. Fuel tank has been customized into a compact and sharper unit, something usually seen with bobber styled motorcycles. The lower curved section of the fuel tank creates a shield effect for the engine, which comes across as a new design innovation. It is not certain if the customized fuel tank will impact storage capacity. Even though it looks slimmer, the length seems to have been stretched. In case of stock Classic 350, fuel tank capacity is 13 litres.Royal Enfield Classic 350 Modified CruiserOther changes include bar-end touring mirrors and floating-type detachable pillion seat. While the exhaust looks like the stock unit, it gets perforated exhaust cover. Another key change is round instrument pods that have been asymmetrically placed above the LED headlight. The headlight gets a ring in matte red paint, which seems to create a halo effect for the bike.Classic 350 Enigma engine and specsEngine has been retained in its original form in this customization project. Classic 350 is powered by a 349cc motor that makes 20.2 bhp of max power at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. It is mated to a constant mesh 5-speed gearbox. In terms of functional updates, the bike gets USD forks at front. Rear dual shock absorbers have been left untouched. However, rear swingarm has been extended by 4 inches. The bike has been equipped with 19-inch front and 15-inch rear spoke wheels. They are shod with 110mm and 140mm dual-purpose block pattern tyres, respectively.Royal Enfield Classic 350 Modified CruiserBraking system is the same as stock version, 300mm and 270mm disc at front and rear, respectively. Classic 350 is offered in both single and dual-channel ABS options. With the updates, modified Classic 350 has acquired a more intense and powerful character. It’s quite different from the laidback styling of stock Classic 350. Could work for folks who like to flaunt their rides. More

Ola Electric Scooter In Remote Locations – First In Kashmir, Barak Valley

Ola Electric Scooter Delivered In KashmirAfter initial teething troubles, Ola appears to have ramped up deliveries of its electric scooters across the countryJust a few months back, several Ola Electric customers were found to be complaining about delayed deliveries and other issues. Things appear to be getting better now, as the company has increased production to around 1k units per day. Deliveries and after sales services are also being streamlined.Ola reaches Kashmir, Barak ValleyIn a significant milestone for Ola Electric, the first scooter has been delivered in Kashmir. This comes at a time when the region is witnessing heavy snowfall. Kashmir already has challenging terrain and things become even more difficult during winters. Several of the routes are cut-off during periods of heavy snowfall. First Ola electric scooter owner in Kashmir, Bilal Bhat, has shared their experience on Twitter. In another post, Ola electric scooter owner Ekbal has thanked the company for the delivery in Assam. According to the owner, his scooter was the 4th Ola scooter in Assam and the 1st in Barak valley. Located close to the Bangladesh border, Barak valley is among the remotest parts of India.Images reveal that delivery of Ola electric scooters in remote locations is being made by third-party logistics service providers. This is because Ola has ditched the traditional dealership model for sales and service. Instead, the sales and registration process has been made completely online. And the scooters are being delivered directly to buyers at their address.Ola Electric Scooter Deliveries Continue Across Several Remote LocationsThis radical approach to remove the middleman appears to be working fine as of now. It eliminates quite a few complexities related to managing hundreds of dealerships like other manufacturers currently have in the auto industry. Speaking about sales, as per retail data released by FADA, Ola delivered over 1,100 electric scooters in Jan 2022.Ola Electric scooter first unit in KashmirFor maintenance and repairs, a technician can be called for a home visit. In case of repairs that may take time, the scooter is carried to the workshop in an Ola service van. From the customer’s perspective, everything gets done online or via phone calls.Ola electric carEven as Ola has still a long way to go in the electric two-wheeler segment, it appears that the company has already started making plans for an electric car. After CEO Bhavish Aggarwal shared an image of a new car, it is being speculated that the company could unveil its electric car soon. However, Ola has not made a formal statement on such possibilities. If Ola can launch an electric car by the end of this year or in 2023, it will get an early mover advantage. As of now, bulk of electric car sales comprise Tata Nexon EV and MG ZS EV. Not much details are available, but it is likely that Ola’s electric car will rival Nexon EV. It could be offered in the same price band of Rs 14-17 lakh. Or Ola could spring up a surprise by offering an electric car at more affordable rates. More

DS E-Tense Performance Is a Dressed Up Formula E Race Car

The DS E-Tense Performance is a slinky electric supercar concept created by the luxury division of Citroen. The concept utilizes the two electric motors from the DS Techeetah Formula E race car, good for a combined 805 horsepower. The E-Tense Performance won’t reach production but will be track-tested by DS Techeetah’s two championship-winning drivers. Striking, isn’t it? Meet the DS E-Tense Performance, a concept which clothes the electric powertrain from a Formula E race car in a svelte coupe body topped off with a vivid green paint job. The E-Tense Performance serves as a sporty vision of an electric future for DS, the luxury arm of Citroen spun off in 2015. Unlike most concept cars, it will actually be put to the test around the track.
The Performance is an evolution of the E-Tense concept revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The muscular, low-slung body remains mostly the same, but the headlights are replaced by cameras and pointy T-shaped LED running lights. The gaping chrome grille of the original is swapped out for a black rectangular element featuring a 3D-effect DS logo, while vents and intakes are chiseled into the bodywork and a beefy diffuser dominates the rear end. The styling is made even more eye-catching by the beetle-influenced color, which changes shades depending on the angle at which you view it.

Underneath the spectacular design is a carbon monocoque and two electric motors from the DS Techeetah race car which competes in Formula E. With a motor on each axle, the E-Tense Performance puts down 805 horsepower, and DS claims it sprints to 62 mph in around 2.0 seconds. DS didn’t reveal the battery’s size, but says it is “housed in a carbon-aluminum composite envelope” and is positioned in a central-rear location for ideal weight distribution.
While the E-Tense Performance isn’t bound for production, the car will be tested by DS Techeetah’s two Formula-E-championship-winning drivers, Jean-Éric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa, in the coming months. The data collected from these tests will influence future DS vehicles, all of which will be electric starting in 2024. None of these vehicles is expected to ever reach our shores, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still drool over the E-Tense Performance and wonder, “What if?”

2002 Ford SVT Focus Is Our Bring a Trailer Auction Pick of the Day

The 2002 Ford SVT Focus shown here has a current bid of $5500 on the Bring a Trailer auction website. The car shows just over 18,000 miles on the odometer. Bidding ends Thursday, February 10.Here we have a car on Bring a Trailer (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos) that is at the far opposite end of the attainability spectrum from our last Find of the Day, a 1987 Porsche 959. Whereas that ultra-rare Porsche supercar has crested $1.8 million and rising, bids for this equally red Ford hot hatch sits at just $5500 at this writing.

    Bring a Trailer

    Bring a Trailer

We’ll grant that, once you get past the exterior hue, the two cars don’t have a whole lot in common, but that’s not to say this Focus is without its merits. Ford’s SVT (Special Vehicle Team) in-house tuner shop has turned out some worthy enthusiast machines. The original Focus was lauded for its chassis tuning, and the SVT version further benefited from enhanced springs, shocks, anti-roll bars, and bushings. It also boasted four-wheel disc brakes with ABS. Output of its Zetec 2.0-liter four was increased to 170 horsepower thanks to a unique intake, exhaust header, forged connecting rods, cast aluminum pistons, a variable intake system, and a higher compression ratio. The engine is paired here with a six-speed manual transmission.

    Bring a Trailer

    Bring a Trailer

This example has just over 18,000 miles and was sold new in the state of Washington. It remained with its original owner until last year when it reportedly was donated. The receiving charity sent the car to auction, where the seller purchased it. An entry on the Carfax report indicates water damage, but the seller said he believes that was a clerical error. (You can read the discussion of it in the comments on Bring a Trailer’s bidding page.) In a period C/D comparison test, a 2002 SVT Focus beat a Honda Civic Si and a Volkswagen GTI. In that test, we said of the Focus: “It is simply in a handling class all by itself.” Unfortunately, whereas Volkswagen and Honda have stayed with their sport compacts, Ford let the flame die out on the SVT Focus. That could make this lesser-known hot hatch a relative bargain and a find for enthusiasts in the know.

Rolls-Royce Spectre Will Feature a New EV-Spirited Spirit of Ecstasy

Rolls-Royce’s Spectre EV will feature a revised version of the Spirit of Ecstasy that it claims is more aerodynamic. The updated hood ornament is 0.7 inch shorter than today’s silver lady and includes updates to the design of the piece.Roll-Royce will retain the current ornament on its range of gas-powered vehicles.Even Rolls-Royce’s Spirit of Ecstasy requires a little cosmetic surgery every now and then, as the British brand revealed an updated look for its illustrious hood ornament. At 3.3 inches tall, the latest version of the Spirit of Ecstasy is almost 0.7 inch shorter than today’s version.

Rolls-Royce did more than just miniaturize the decorative piece; it also subtly restyled the silver lady, altering her flowing robes ever so slightly (that’s right, those are robes, not wings) and adjusting her stance. As a result, the flying . . . er, robed lady no longer stands with her feet together and legs straight. Instead, her legs are now slightly bent, with one positioned ahead of the other. Below you can compare the new hood ornament (left) with the old one, shown on the Cullinan.

    Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce’s plans to fit the new Spirit of Ecstasy to the 2024 Spectre electric vehicle, and it claims the ornament’s more aerodynamic shape plays a role in the coefficient of drag (Cd) of 0.26 (a figure equal to that of the likes of the since-discontinued BMW i8 hybrid sports car) recorded by prototypes of the upcoming battery-powered coupe. Alas, Rolls failed to disclose the Cd of Spectre prototypes fitted with today’s Spirit of Ecstasy. As such, it’s difficult to determine the real role the silver lady’s cosmetic upgrades provide in the wind tunnel, and, in turn, if it helps noticeably improve the two-door EV’s energy consumption at speed.

Regardless, we wager its effects are not especially significant considering Rolls is opting to maintain the current Spirit of Ecstasy on its gas-powered Phantom, Ghost, and Cullinan models, none of which is a poster child for fuel efficiency. The new ornament, meanwhile, is earmarked for future Rolls-Royce vehicles, including the Spectre.
