Ford Is Going to 100% Online, Fixed-Price Sales For EVs, Says CEO Jim Farley

The Ford brand will transition to exclusively online, fixed-price, delivered-to-your-door sales for EVs, CEO Jim Farley said, in a statement reported by USA Today.”We’ve got to go to non-negotiated price. We’ve got to go 100 percent online. There’s no inventory [at dealerships]; it goes directly to the customer. And 100 percent remote pick up and delivery,” he said during Bernstein’s Annual Strategic Decisions Conference, the paper reported. It’s unclear if Ford also plans to implement this sales strategy shift for its non-EV products. Farley went on to say that he sees the physical locations of dealers as a huge opportunity to push an edge over competitors, but that the current stores will have to radically evolve. Dealers can do it, he said, “but the standards are going to be brutal.”

The fixed-price model has been tried by countless new car dealerships, used-car chains, and even manufacturers like Saturn. Yet it was Tesla that showed that a successful automaker could fully rely on fixed-price sales. The EV juggernaut also pioneered an online ordering system that so-called legacy automakers have been struggling to replicate. If Ford wants to be a huge player in this and take advantage of what Farley sees as a historically significant market-share land grab, the company has to adapt to give the customers what they want. Right now, as USA Today notes, Ford estimates that it spends $2000 more than Tesla per car on distribution. The company also intends to massively scale back advertising for its EVs, another way it has to adapt. “If you ever see Ford Motor Co. doing a Super Bowl ad on our electric vehicles, sell the stock,” he said. For the full breakdown of Farley’s remarks, check out the USA Today story which explores post-sales service, the role of the Super Duty and other gas guzzlers, EV profitability, custom cars for Uber and Lyft, Chinese EVs, and “very large consolidation.”Road & Track has reached out to Ford for additional comment on Farley’s statements.

2023 Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 Is a 'Star with a Stripe and Go-Fast Parts

The 2023 Polestar 2 lineup will include a limited-production BST edition 270.Along with exclusive chassis modifications and 502 pound-feet of torque, it’s available with a choice of a matte-black stripe or a full-body wrap. The ’23 Polestar 2 BST is limited to 270 copies worldwide (up to 47 in the U.S.) and is priced at $76,900.Even when equipped with the optional Performance pack, the 2023 Polestar 2 hardly gives off race-car vibes. That changes with the introduction of the limited-production BST edition 270, which is available with a single matte-black stripe and the number “2” on the hood. It doesn’t get much racier than that. Well, actually it does.

The stripe is a $1000 option, allowing BST buyers to avoid the look if it’s too over the top. What’s unavoidable is the extensive list of modifications made to this special Polestar 2 that make it a better track ‘Star—see what we did there? Compared with non-BST versions, its dual electric motors are tuned to make an extra 15 pound-feet of torque (502 total); their combined 476-hp rating remains.
More notably, the Polestar 2 BST is chock-full of chassis mods. Its ride height is almost an inch lower than stock, its suspension springs are 20 percent stiffer, and a front strut bar has been added. Likewise, the manually adjustable Öhlins dampers that are normally included with the Performance pack are said to be specially tuned for the BST, and they’re supplemented by auxiliary adjustment chambers under the hood. They’re easy to spot because they’re gold. Finally, the BST rolls on a set of Polestar 1–inspired 21-inch wheels, which are matte black to match the stripe. The rims are shod with Pirelli P Zero rubber that Polestar says was specially designed for the BST.

    Polestar

    Polestar

Unfortunately, this racy Polestar 2 isn’t available with the snazzy goldish-gray Jupiter paint color that’s now offered on ’23 non-BST models. Instead, the only two paint options are Thunder or Snow. There’s also a $5000 full-body Battleship Gray satin wrap that’s exclusive to the BST. Inside, every version has Charcoal WeaveTech upholstery. As its name suggests, the 2023 Polestar BST edition 270 has a limited production of 270 examples worldwide, with as many as 47 planned for U.S. consumption. Interested parties will need to contact Polestar through its website where they’ll be put in touch with a specialist for a “personalized sales process.” The BST will have a starting price of $76,900, and deliveries start near the end of this year.

Buick Electra-X Concept Gives Hints about the Future Electric Sub-Brand

The Buick Electra-X, designed at General Motors’ Shanghai studio in China, previews the future of the brand for the lucrative China market.Buick recently revealed that its upcoming EVs will fly under the Electra banner, so this concept may also suggest the design direction for the U.S.-bound SUVs.The concept rides on the Ultium platform, as will the production EV that will arrive in the U.S. for 2025 and will share bits with the Cadillac Lyriq.Buick has become a bit of an afterthought in the United States, with sales tapering off since the late 1990s. Meanwhile, the premium American brand has become a hit over in China. Over a million Buicks were sold in China as recently as 2018 (just over 200,000 Buicks found homes stateside that year), and Buick has registered more than 10 million sales there since its arrival in 1998. Given Buick’s significance in that market, the company has now previewed its electric future for China with the Electra-X concept, which may also hint at what’s coming for the recently announced Electra sub-brand in the U.S.

    Buick

The Electra-X is an SUV with sleek bodywork and a sloping roofline. The design was produced by General Motors’ team in Shanghai, and the crossover is based on the Ultium platform that also underpins GM’s Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EVs. The slim headlights sit above a wide-mouth grille with intricate triangular elements, while the rear features a trendy full-width light bar. Buick’s new logo, which does away with the circle that traditionally surrounded the tri-shield design, adorns the nose, and the concept rides on 21-inch wheels.

    Buick

    Buick

The interior is airy thanks to a glass roof and thin pillars, and the dashboard features hidden air vents and a 30-inch screen with up to 6K resolution. The Electra-X’s four seats are upholstered in a knit fabric made from recycled plastic bottles, and the voice control system can command nearly 50 different functions. The concept also features GM’s Super Cruise driver-assistance technology that is already found on EVs including the Hummer and gas-powered vehicles including the Escalade. There’s no word on how much of the Electra-X’s design will make it to the first U.S.-market Electra SUV. That vehicle will be unveiled for the U.S. in 2024 and will share a platform with the Lyriq, but between the Electra-X and the Wildcat concept, we are starting to get a pretty good sense of what Buick’s future will look like.

Hero Vida Electric Scooter Launch Delayed To End 2022 – Here’s Why

Upon launch of the upcoming Hero Vida electric scooter from Hero MotoCorp, it will take on the likes of Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQubeImage for reference. After months of anticipation, Hero MotoCorp had announced the launch of a new subsidiary brand called Vida which will handle all operations in the electric vehicle (EV) space. The company’s entry into electric mobility had been discussed extensively over the last few months. There were also questions regarding what brand name the bikemaker adopts for its EV business since rights for the ‘Hero’ brand are exclusively held by the Naveen Munjal-led firm Hero Electric. By opting for the brand name ‘Vida’, Hero MotoCorp has avoided all legal tangles and should now be able to focus solely on product development.Hero Vida Electric Scooter DelayedThe first model to come out of this new Vida brand will be an electric scooter which was earlier teased in August last year during the company’s 10th anniversary celebration. This electric scooter was planned for launch on 1st July 2022, which is also the birth anniversary of Dr. Brijmohan Lall, Chairman Emeritus of Hero MotoCorp. But that is not going to be the case now. As per the latest update from Hero MotoCorp, launch has been delayed to festive season 2022.Mr. Swadesh Srivastava, Head of Emerging Mobility Business Unit (EMBU), said, “In line with our philosophy of providing the highest quality products to our customers, we remain committed to bringing the best of Electric Vehicles (EVs) for our customers across the globe. The ongoing geopolitical situation has resulted in enormous supply chain issues and shortage of various components, including semiconductors. Keeping customers as the top-most priority, we, therefore, feel it would be prudent to unveil the first EV product around the upcoming festive period instead of July as earlier announced. We are accordingly gearing up for the launch of VIDA – Powered by Hero – in the festive season.”Hero MotoCorp Electric Scooter – Under VIDA BrandIt is worth mentioning that the two-wheeler giant filed multiple trademarks for the name ‘Vida’ back in November last year. These included trademarks like Vida Electric, Vida Mobility, Vida EV, Vida MotoCorp, Vida Scooters, and Vida Motorcycles. Production of the upcoming e-scooter and other battery-powered models will be carried out at Hero’s new manufacturing plant in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.Significance Of the name ‘Vida’Deliveries of the electric scooter are expected to begin post launch. During the unveiling of the brand’s logo and the ‘sunrise’ visual identity of Vida, Dr. Pawan Munjal, Chairman & CEO, Hero MotoCorp, gave some insights about the brand name. He revealed that Vida means life, and the brand’s sole purpose is to create a positive impact on the world and move us all forward in meaningful ways.On this occasion, Hero MotoCorp also rolled out a US$100 Million Global Sustainability Fund. This fund will aim to establish global partnerships, spearheaded by the BML Munjal University (BMU) and Hero MotoCorp, with the objective of nurturing more than 10,000 entrepreneurs on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) solutions that have a positive impact on the planet.Expected Details of Upcoming E-scooterHero MotoCorp has been tight-lipped about details of the upcoming electric scooter, however, an earlier teaser shed some light on it. The e-scooter sports a conventional underbone design and stands on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear black alloy wheels. It also didn’t feature a hub-mounted motor which means it could be powered by a mid-ship mounted electric motor with a belt drive. While the launch of the scooter is delayed, by the time deliveries start later this year, there would be enough charging stations set up at Bharat Petroleum pumps in most of the major cities. Given the nature of Hero MotoCorp’s business, we expect the upcoming electric scooter to be priced aggressively around Rs 1.5 lakh, ex-sh. More

Some of the closely matching features include projector LED headlight and sleek eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs. A significant percentage of the body panels closely resemble that of N250. 2024 Mahindra Thar Electric SUV Ready To Off Road – Render

With electric being the future, how does an all electric Mahindra Thar sound, or look?2024 Mahindra Thar Electric SUV RenderNew Mahindra Thar has been a run-away success. Despite being almost 1.5 years old, it still commands a long waiting period, which is something most other car brands can be envious about. Mahindra is also working upon a 5-door Mahindra Thar, which would focus a little more on comfort and interior space, without compromising on Thar’s iconic off-roading capabilities. While the 5-door Thar is still a few months away, interesting designers at Bimble Designs have envisaged how a 3-door Mahindra Thar would look like, if it lands up becoming a pure EV. If it does get launched, expect Mahindra Thar Electric to have a range in the region of 500 kms on full charge.2024 Mahindra Thar Electric SUVThe idea of a Thar EV is practical as we have already seen some massively powerful all electric pick-up trucks/SUVs getting launched in international markets in the last 2-3 years. Some of the names include Ford’s F-150 lightning, Hummer EV etc. Mahindra too has been working to re-enter the personal EV space, and an all electric Thar isn’t too much of a wild thought.Talking about the render, the model gets a clean futuristic design, along with some retro elements. Overall silhouette of Thar EV looks similar to that of standard Thar, however hard-core airless off-roading tyres and a heavy-duty suspension seem to have raised overall height of the off-roader.2024 Mahindra Thar Electric SUV RenderAt the front, the iconic Jeep inspired vertical slats get a design make-over and are all covered up, to suit the EV’s requirement. Large squared-off wheel arches and a reworked bumper make the SUV look dominating. Design of Headlamps and tail-lamps haven’t been changed much, possibly to retain the true Thar character. However, headlamps get a new LED element, which get complimented by LED bars present on the roof and front bumper. A functional roof rack along with ladders has also been added, to help users carry additional gears like a tent etc, during an off-roading trip.Mahindra Thar EV Rear DesignWhile Mahindra has some aggressive plans in the EV space, it remains to be seen if Mahindra will plan on bringing all-electric body-on-frame SUVs. As of now, most EVs in India are based on monocoque frames. If Mahindra can bring in an EV-setup on a body-on-frame platform, it will have the flexibility to spawn multiple models, like Thar EV, Scorpio EV and possibly even a Bolero EV.2024 Mahindra Thar Electric SUV RenderTalking about the standard Thar, it is offered with both petrol and diesel motor options. The diesel motor happens to be part of Mahindra’s iconic mHawk range and the 2.2 litre turbo diesel unit is capable of dishing out 130 hp and 300 Nm of peak torque. Customers opting for a petrol powerhouse get a 2 litre turbo petrol mStallion motor, which can churn out 150 hp and 320 Nm of max torque. Transmission options include 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT gearboxes. Select trims also get 4×4 capabilities. As of now, Mahindra is busy working for 2022 ScorpioN’s launch, which is scheduled to take place later this June. Post the ScorpioN, Mahindra might bring in an all-electric XUV300, which will land up becoming a direct rival to Nexon EV and Nexon EV max.Source More
