Tata Harrier EV vs XEV 9e – Specs, Features, Size Compared

Tata Harrier EV vs XEV 9e ComparedTata Harrier EV has been launched in India for a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh (Ex-sh), which pits it directly against the Mahindra XEV 9e launched last year. Both vehicles are quite comparable in size and pack a futuristic set of features and creature comforts. Let’s take a look at how these vehicles differ in terms of specs, features and size on paper.
Tata Harrier EV vs XEV 9e – Specs
Let us start with pricing of Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9e, where the former has a clear edge. Harrier EV prices start from Rs 21.49 lakh (Ex-sh) for the base Adventure trim, while base Mahindra XEV 9e Pack One starts from 21.9 lakh (Ex-sh) and goes till Rs 30.5 lakh (Ex-sh). Prices for Harrier EV’s top trim levels are yet to be revealed.
It has to be noted that Harrier EV offers a 65 kWh battery with base model, while it is only 59 kWh with XEV 9e’s base variant. With their top trims, XEV 9e has an advantage as it offers 79 kWh battery where Harrier EV tops out at 75 kWh. With a larger battery and larger size, XEV 9e claims 656 km range and Harrier EV claims 627 km. Both promise around 500 km real world range.
Tata Harrier EV vs XEV 9e – Specs
Where performance is concerned, Harrier EV has an edge as it can sprint to 100 km/h in just 6.2s, while it takes 6.8s with XEV 9e. Both are RWD as standard, but Harrier EV is the first Indian EV to offer a dual-motor QWD setup with higher trims with off-roading capability. Interestingly, Tata does not disclose peak system power with this setup but peak system torque is 504 Nm. XEV 9e tops out at 282 bhp and 380 Nm.
DC charging is up to 175 kW with XEV 9e and up to 125 kW with Harrier EV, whereas AC charging top out at 7.2 kW with Harrier EV, where XEV 9e offers a faster 11.2 kW unit. Also, it has to be noted that only the XEV 9e has crash tested with a 5 Star rating, but Harrier EV is yet to be tested. However, given Tata’s track record with crash ratings, one could expect Harrier EV to score full fat 5 Stars.
    Dimensions & Design
Where dimensions are concerned, it is quite clear that Mahindra XEV 9e is a longer vehicle by a considerable margin. However, Harrier EV is wider and taller, which lends it a much-needed gangsta look. When viewing from the front or rear, Harrier EV looks more substantial, while XEV 9e definitely looks larger from the side profile. Longer length ensures a longer wheelbase with XEV 9e which also translates to more legroom on the inside.
Tata Harrier EV vs XEV 9e – Dimensions
Harrier EV has smaller 502L boot space and up to 67L frunk. XEV 9e on the other hand, has a larger 663L boot and a 150L frunk. However, Harrier EV has a digital IRVM feature that allows you to load your luggage to the roof, while still offering rear view with the help of a camera positioned in its shark fin antenna. Both vehicles have almost similar ground clearance, but XEV 9e offers 19-inch wheels as standard. Harrier EV base variants start from 18-inchers. Also, XEV 9e offers an option to choose 20-inch wheels which is just absent with Harrier EV.
    Features & Creature Comforts
Where features and creature comforts are concerned, both Harrier EV and XEV 9e blow a lot of punches. However, Harrier EV seems to blow more punches on paper. That’s because it has a panoramic sunroof that opens, a digital key feature, a digital IRVM with DVR function, a QLED screen with inky blacks for immersive visuals, electrically operated Boss Mode, winged headrest, Transparent Mode with 540-degree view and more.
XEV 9e blows quite a few punches too as it has a triple screen layout, which is quite unique. Also, the instrument cluster is larger at 12.3-inches and a functional HUD with comprehensive features and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) facility for rear occupants. XEV 9e offers a 1400W 16-speaker Harman Kardon music system with Dolby Atmos support. Common features between both are ADAS, self park, summon mode, ventilated front seats, memory function for driver’s seat, independent rear suspension and more.
Tata Harrier EV vs XEV 9e – Features
Choosing between Tata Harrier EV and XEV 9e is likely to come down to their design and not spec sheets and comparison tables. While XEV 9e is a handsome machine in isolation, it looks quite overdesigned when compared to Harrier EV. Where off-roading is concerned, Harrier EV is the only one to offer QWD setup with Terrain Response Modes. It will be interesting to see sales figures of both these vehicles once Harrier EV goes on sale.

ABS Mandatory For All Two-Wheelers Soon – MORTH’s Big Safety Push

Hero Super Splendor XTECWhile a notification has been issued, MORTH will release a more detailed guideline regarding the ABS rule in the coming weeks
India has the highest number of road accident fatalities in the world, with a significant number involving two wheelers. In 2022, around 75,000 fatalities were due to accidents involving two wheelers. To tackle this problem, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) is planning to make ABS mandatory for all bikes and scooters. This new rule is expected to come into force from January 2026. Let’s check out the details.
    ABS mandatory for all 2-wheelers
As of now, ABS (single channel ABS) is mandatory for all two wheelers with engine capacity of 125cc and above. This rule can also be applied based on power output of 11 kW (approx. 15 hp) or more. Any two-wheeler with a power-to-weight ratio of 0.1 kW/kg or more should also be equipped with ABS.
For two-wheelers below 125cc, a combi braking system (CBS) has been mandated. These entry-level models constitute the majority of two-wheeler sales in the country. While a CBS setup has its benefits, safety can be more robust with ABS. Studies have shown that ABS can reduce two-wheeler accidents by up to 33%. That means a significant reduction in fatalities and injuries linked to accidents involving two-wheelers.
Data available with the government reveals that a significant number of accidents involving two-wheelers are caused due to brake-related skidding. That’s where ABS can play its role and prevent injuries and fatalities. Especially when the ABS is made mandatory for all bikes and scooters in the country.
    TVS Jupiter 110
    Cost of ABS upgrade
It is likely that single-channel ABS will be made mandatory for all 2-wheelers in the country. In that case, the cost of entry-level bikes and scooters can see an increase of around Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000. However, with large volumes, OEMs may be able to reduce the ABS upgrade cost per unit. Best Selling 2-wheelers under 125cc include the likes of Hero Splendor, Honda Shine 100, HF Deluxe, Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, TVS XL and Honda Dio.
It remains to be seen if the government takes some steps to prevent a price shock in the entry-level commuter segment. Current GST rate of 28% can probably be relaxed to compensate for the cost of ABS upgrade to some extent. Industry leaders like Rajiv Bajaj have often been critical of the 28% GST rate on entry-level commuter bikes. A GST rate of around 12% to 18% can make commuter bikes more accessible.
Two helmets with every new 2-wheeler
MORTH is also planning to make two BIS-certified helmets mandatory with every new two-wheeler sold. One for the rider and one for the pillion. This again is a decision based on road accident data. A significant percentage of fatalities involving two-wheeler accidents is due to head injuries.
    Image for reference only
However, this helmet rule will further increase the cost of commuter bikes. While the intent is good, the government shouldn’t ignore practical necessities of lower-income groups and budget-conscious buyers. Reducing GST further from current 28% slab, might help buyers absorb the increase in price with the two mandated helmets, when it comes into effect. More

Bajaj Freedom CNG Motorcycle Price Cut – Sales Decline

Bajaj Freedom 125While the base variant (Drum) has become more accessible, the Drum LED and Disc LED variants continue with the earlier pricing
Bajaj had introduced the world’s first dual-fuel CNG bike, Freedom 125 NG04, in July 2024. The bike was positioned as a game changer, offering the convenience of dual-fuel (CNG + petrol) and fuel cost savings of up to 50%. To boost sales, Bajaj has now reduced the price of the base variant. Let’s check out the details and new pricing.
Bajaj Freedom CNG Motorcycle – New price
The base variant ‘NG04 Drum’ gets a discount of Rs 5,000. From Rs 90,976 earlier, the price has dropped to Rs 85,976 with the discount offer. There are no upgrades or downgrades to the base model. Prices of the mid and top variants remain unchanged at Rs 95,981 and Rs 1,10,976, respectively.
    Bajaj Freedom 125
Powering the bike is a 125cc engine that generates 9.5 PS and 9.7 Nm of peak torque. The base variant NG04 Drum has a halogen headlamp, as compared to the other two variants that have LED headlamp. Bajaj Freedom CNG has 17-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels. Tyres are 80/90 front and 80/100 at the rear with the base variant.
The other two variants have 90/80 front and 120/70 rear tyres. The base variant has 130 mm drum brake at the front and 110 mm drum brake at the rear. The mid variant ‘NG04 Drum LED’ has 130 mm drum brakes at both ends. The top variant ‘NG04 Disc LED’ has 240 mm disc brake at front and 130 mm drum brake at rear. All variants have CBS braking setup.
    Bajaj Freedom 125
While the base and mid variants have a small LCD without connectivity, the top variant is offered with an inverted full LCD with connectivity. The base variant has sheet metal belly pan, as compared to plastic + steel metal belly pan used with the mid and top variants. The base variant also misses out on the tank cover flap offered with the mid and top variants.
    Bajaj Freedom CNG sales report
During the eleven months since launch in July 2024, Bajaj Freedom has sold a total of 76,760 units. That’s an average of 6,978 units sold every month. Since Bajaj Freedom 125 is the only dual-fuel bike in the country, it has the first-mover advantage. Being a unique offering, the bike had generated significant interest among potential buyers and enthusiasts. During the festive season in 2024, sales of Bajaj Freedom CNG had peaked at 30,051 units in October.
Bajaj Freedom Sales Over Past Year

However, monthly sales have been relatively less in 2025. There can be multiple factors at play. For example, sales could be impacted in regions that have limited availability of CNG fuel stations. Data reveals that around 60% of Bajaj Freedom CNG sales come from states like Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. These are among the states with the highest density of CNG fuel stations.
Sales of Bajaj Freedom CNG could also be impacted due to the phenomenal rise of low-cost electric scooters. These are not only cheaper than Freedom CNG, but also have less cost per kilometre. Charging infrastructure has consistently improved, which is another factor that is encouraging people to shift to EVs.
Bajaj Freedom Sales Over Past Year
Bajaj itself has seen a spectacular success with the Chetak, which is now the second best selling electric scooter in the country. In May 2025, Chetak was featured in the top 10, with sales of 25,540 units and market share of 4.65%. It remains to be seen if the price cut for Bajaj Freedom CNG base variant brings any significant change to sales numbers. More
