    1972 DeTomaso Pantera Is Our Bring a Trailer Auction Pick of the Day

    For those who love the look of Italian exotics but want to show their American loyalty and keep the prices somewhat reasonable, a DeTomaso Pantera is an interesting choice.As a designer, I’m attracted to this 1972 Pantera, currently up for auction at no reserve on Bring a Trailer.The car’s current owner is located in Kentucky, and the car was previously purchased in 2017 on—you guessed it—Bring a Trailer. The auction ends March 15.As this publication’s creative director, I might always lean toward something a designer would find appealing, but after working at Car and Driver for over 10 years and having it hammered into my head about the performance benefits of a mid-engine car, I can’t resist the lure of the Pantera. That’s why this no-reserve 1972 DeTomaso is my pick of the day from the Bring a Trailer auction site—which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos. With five days to go before the auction ends on March 15, bidding is currently at $54,000.

    I don’t find myself realistically purchasing a Ford GT40, so the Pantera is the next best thing for a guy from Detroit. Right? What’s not to like about a mid-engine, V-8–powered exotic? Its performance numbers still stand up quite well today, and the price it generally fetches seems reasonable for what you get, with a zero-to-60-mph time of 5.5 seconds and quarter-mile in 14 seconds. You’ll find yourself in rare company if you come close to matching that formula in another car that’s close to 50 years old.

    And then there’s the way it looks. The interior screams 1970s; the gated shifter sneaks in the Italian heritage. Powered by a 330-hp Ford V-8 Cleveland, it is obviously going to be much more serviceable than any Italian-powered car with similar styling and pedigree. Ford wasn’t messing around when it developed this car. Among the desirable features are a gated five-speed shifter, toggle switches, and a hazard button that could be mistaken for a modern-day start button. Not to mention, the Pantera has a speedometer that goes up to 200; that’s pretty neat. (Not that it’s ever been close, but passengers can think what they want.)The exterior design of the Pantera has held up as well as any exotic, if not better. It has such clean lines and amazing proportions and such simple elegance, before any add-on U.S. crash standard-conforming monstrosities. I certainly went through a phase of preferring blacked-out bumpers like the ones on this example, but I would lean toward returning this example back to the stock chrome versions from the previous sale of the same car on Bring a Trailer.

    What can I say? I was raised in the Detroit area and must have some hidden loyalty to some local brands, so this is as close as I’m going to get to owning an Italian exotic sports car without feeling like I betrayed the Big Three. You might ask why that has never bothered me in the past, with all the VWs, BMWs, Subarus, and Audis my family has owned. Still, maybe it’s time to show some loyalty to the little part of this car that is American. Or at least some family loyalty: my Uncle Karl, who helped me get into this business and has always had great taste in cars, has a Pantera. Why not me?Or why not you?     2023 Acura Integra Aims to Win Over Doubters

    The Integra is returning to the Acura lineup for the first time since 2001. Upper trim levels offer a six-speed manual transmission, head-up display, and wireless charging. Chassis and drivetrain are shared with the Honda Civic Si but with Acura-specific suspension tuning.There’s always a risk to bringing back a popular nameplate. Nostalgia imbues the previous models with super powers, and modern versions can pale in comparison. We’ll (mostly) leave the arguments about Integras of the past to those of you in the comments, and focus instead on how the 2023 Acura Integra holds up against the 2022 ILX—which it replaces as Acura’s small-car offering—and against the Honda Civic, with which it shares its engine and underpinnings. [editoriallinks id=’f21c684a-1b80-4e84-8db1-0f7b1bfe1636′ align=’left’][/editoriallinks]Acura’s been doing a slow roll on the unveil of the Integra, first showing the exterior in prototype form in a flashy Indy Yellow Pearl paint with silly graphics and then unintentionally allowing a sneak peek at the interior at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Now we finally got the chance to see several production models up close. While it might not meet the rose-colored reminisces of the hard-core fans, it’s a clear step up from the ILX—which we felt was lacking in options and amenities—and an interesting alternative to the Civic Si. Our display models were all top trim, the A-Spec model with technology package, currently the highest offering on the Integra. Representatives would neither confirm nor deny the possibility of an Integra Type R or Type S in the future. [image id=’2fd86ada-7322-4e0a-ac96-862ca4812a43′ mediaId=’5ec05dcd-4e2a-414f-a3b0-74ec022fca40′ align=’center’ size=’medium’ share=’false’ caption=” expand=” crop=’18×11′][/image]All Integras come with the same turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four from the Civic Si. Acura didn’t make any changes to this powertrain other than an Acura badge on the breather cover. The engine makes the same 200 horsepower and 192 pound-ft of torque as it does in the Si, but it sounds different thanks to an exhaust setup that adds a cinnamon-roll swirl of piping right before the exhaust tips. This effectively lengthens the tubes and results in a deeper exhaust note: not quite bassoon, let’s say English horn rather than the reedy oboe of most four-cylinders. [editoriallinks id=’6cb54deb-3e31-493d-ae41-b90a0ddddeac’ align=’center’][/editoriallinks]Backing the engine is a standard CVT automatic with programmed “shifts” and steering wheel paddles so you can pretend you have control over something. If you want to shift for real, step up to the A-Spec and choose the 6-speed manual transmission, which also comes with a limited-slip differential. The manual is not available in the base trim level, as Acura believes enthusiasts who want to row gears will also want features including a heads-up display and wireless smart phone integration, only available with the technology package. All trim levels get three driving modes, but the tech package adds in an Individual mode which allows for some customization of steering feel and throttle response, plus adaptive dampers that aren’t available on the Civic Si.[image id=’79216bf5-7405-4ca3-ba25-54cc1eb15cc5′ mediaId=’42b0eb61-69b4-4057-a484-20e1961f1f86′ align=’center’ size=’medium’ share=’false’ caption=” expand=” crop=’18×11′][/image]Design-wise the Integra is more dramatic than either the Civic or the outgoing ILX, with a sharp mohawk of a hood line and a narrow row of LED headlights accented by a slash of running lights Acura calls “the Chicane.” The sharp kink of the lights is a repeated element down the side of the car, where body lines run at an angle before kicking up into the rear wheel well and quarter window, giving the Integra a raked look. The front end features an embossed Integra logo beneath the headlights as a nod to the popular third-gen models, and one might make the argument that the multi-bulb lights themselves harken back to the four-headlight “spider-eyes” of 1994’s redesign. But the rear angle is probably the closest to a historical feature, with a long rear window and a decklid that ducks down between the taillights.[editoriallinks id=’1e74cadd-a374-4ae5-a338-3e7984e84452′ align=’left’][/editoriallinks] Even so, if you’re looking for a throwback, you won’t find it in the 2023 model. “We didn’t want to make a retro car,” says Acura senior product planner Jonathon Rivers. “We wanted to imagine the Integra had never left the lineup. Where would it be as a modern version?” Rivers says that he sees Integra not as a competitor to Civic, but as the next step up in features and technology from the Civic Si. “There isn’t a single panel of sheet metal shared between Civic and Integra, and there are options available on Integra that you can’t even get on Civic Si,” he says, pointing to the 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster inside, the heated seats with memory function, and the ELS 12-speaker audio system.[image id=’93668374-1de9-464a-983d-10a39f358ab1′ mediaId=’2eace059-ad2d-46e6-b76d-07c135e3c23f’ align=’center’ size=’medium’ share=’false’ caption=” expand=” crop=’18×11′][/image]Inside, the Integra is spacious and pleasant to touch. The layout is similar to the Civic’s, with a wide console housing the shifter and storage leading up to a dash-mounted touchscreen. But the dash in the Integra is terraced for more visual interest, and the mesh trim inserts are a diamond pattern rather than the honeycomb found in the Honda. While the A-Spec package primarily includes exterior changes such as gloss-black window trim and 18-inch alloy wheels, the technology package adds in a wireless charge pad, ambient lighting, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen to replace the base 7.0-inch screen.Acura’s doing nice things with interior materials, and the synthetic leather with microsuede inserts—another technology package upgrade—is so soft you’ll want to keep petting it. We wouldn’t recommend that in the white Orchid interior. In fact, we wouldn’t recommend a white microsuede interior at all, but if you go with either the black or red color options your grubby hand marks won’t show up so quickly.The seats are comfortably bolstered, with plenty of legroom front and rear. Tall drivers might resent the speakers mounted at noggin height above the door opening and the slight loss of room for the standard sunroof, but the rest of us can just bop to our jams and enjoy the well-lit interior. The rear seats are appealing too and they fold flat in a 60/40 split. The hatchback design and generous cargo area provide plenty of room for luggage or even large and unwieldy items like a stroller. Still, it’s safe to assume something in the range of the Civic Si’s EPA-estimated 31 mpg combined.We do know pricing starts at around $30,000, and a fully loaded example with A-Spec and tech package should end up in the mid-$30,000 range. Integra reservations are open now and cars should be in dealers by late spring. The industry is taking baby steps in an industry of unknown territory.Of the companies that reported sales to the industry body, total electric two wheeler sales last month surpassed the 32k mark. This in itself may not look phenomenal but represents manifold growth. A year earlier, the E2W segment saw total sales closer to the 6k mark.Ather network expansionThe company is keen on increasing its presence and this will be possible when the company begins business in many more cities than it does today. As per plan, in the next 3 years, there will be 600 retail outlets.Being able to cater to that many touchpoints will only be possible when manufacturing increases. To ensure an ecosystem that supports its growth plans, Ather Energy is increasing its scooter production per annum.  With an increasing number of electric 2W manufacturers, the future fosters a truly competitive environment.     Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Pillion Backrest Spied – Exhaust Note Captured

    Royal Enfield is expected to launch Hunter 350 towards the end of 2022 – Most likely around DiwaliRoyal Enfield Hunter 350 SpiedModern classic roadsters are currently blue-eyed boys for the Indian motorcycle community. For a long time, this segment has been dominated by Royal Enfield. But in recent years, the Chennai-based bikemaker has faced challenges from new arrivals in this space including Benelli, Jawa, Honda and Yezdi.That said, Royal Enfield still commands bulk of the market share in the segment of motorcycles with engine displacements ranging within 250cc and 750cc. To negate competition from other brands, Royal Enfield is developing a plethora of new models which will be hitting showrooms in coming months.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Exhaust NoteOne of the most promising upcoming products from Royal Enfield is Hunter 350 which has been spotted testing on numerous occasions in recent months. The retro classic roadster has been spied testing yet again. A video of the same has been uploaded on YouTube by Power Stroke PS that also captures the bike’s exhaust note.By the looks of it, the motorcycle looks almost production-ready with finished body panels. As usual with most Royal Enfield offerings, Hunter will flaunt a classic retro design with signature styling highlights such as a round headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a single-piece seat and a short rear section.[embedded content][embedded content]It features slightly rear-set footpegs in comparison to other 350cc siblings making for a sporty riding stance. An all-black theme on its running gear and internals further accentuates its sporty appeal. Another distinct highlight is a short side-slung upswept exhaust canister which is a first for a Royal Enfield.The video posted above gives a sneak peek of the exhaust note which appears to be raspy. Other visual highlights include split grab rails and circular tail lamp and turn indicators. The test unit seen in the video posted above could be seen with a pillion backrest installed which is expected to be offered as an accessory.Expected Features & Powertrain SpecsComing to features, it is expected to boast a similar set of equipment like its 350cc siblings- Meteor and Classic Reborn. This includes a Tripper Navigation pod that displays turn-by-turn navigation on the instrument console when paired with the Royal Enfield App on a smartphone via Bluetooth. It should also receive a USB charger as standard.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 prices – To be cheaper than Classic and MeteorHunter 350 will be based on the same J1D platform which currently underpins Meteor and new-gen Classic. This chassis will be suspended on 35 mm telescopic forks at front and twin gas-charged shocks at rear. Braking duties will be carried out by single disc brakes on both wheels aided by a dual-channel ABS.Powering Royal Enfield Hunter 350 will be a familiar 349cc single-cylinder air-cooled OHC engine that kicks out 20.2 hp and 27 Nm of peak torque. This motor is paired with a 5-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch.     Electric Car Sales Feb 2022 – Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai, MG, BYD

    YoY electric car sales improve manifold in February 2022 bolstered largely by Tata MotorsTata Nexon ElectricElectric car sales in India are yet to become the phenomenon that E2W’s are proving to be. As expected, sales volume is way lower than that of electric two wheelers dominated by scooters. But it’s a bit of a drag considering not many existing manufacturers are offering affordable electric cars.Clearly the industry isn’t going to be rescued by new car manufacturers and known names are yet to play their ace game. There is however the approach by Tata Motors that bucks the trend. It also singlehandedly contributes to almost all sales. Tata Motors has over 96% market share in the electric car segment of India.Electric Car Sales Feb 2022 – Tata LeadsFor February 2022, electric car retail sales are reported at 2,264 units. In a YoY comparison, this stands markedly improved from 434 units. In January, sales were reported at 1,360 units ensuring a 3 digit MoM growth.Tata Motors electric car sales stood at 2,264 units in Feb 2022 – growing by 421% over Feb 2021 (YoY) and by 66% (MoM). Tata offers Nexon EV and Tigor EV in this space, which are entry level electric cars priced in the Rs 10-20 lakh range.Electric Car Sales Feb 2022 vs Feb 2021 (YoY) – Vinkesh Gulati / FADA.MG Motor ZS EV sales are reported at 38 units. YoY sales fell by more than two-thirds, down from 127 units. In January 2021, sales were reported at 59 units. MoM decline is reported at over a third.Mahindra and HyundaiIn India, Mahindra has been in the electric space for longer than most. However, that’s not reflected in its monthly sales. Last month sales were reported at 12 units. A year earlier, this number stood at 10 units. In January 2022, 31 units were reported sold.BYD India reports 10 units sold in January, and February 2022, each. BYD offers the e6 electric car in India. Hyundai India sold 6 electric cars last month. Hyundai Kona is the brand’s solo electric offering in IndiaElectric Car Sales Feb 2022 vs Jan 2022 (MoM) – Vinkesh Gulati / FADA.Luxury Electric CarsAudi India registered 7 units in sales last month. They offer the etron electric car in India. Jaguar Land Rover reported 6 units of I-Pace. In January 10 units were sold. Mercedes Benz AG reported 4 units sold in Feb’22, and 2 units sold in Jan ’22. They have the EQC on offer in India.Porsche sold 4 units of Taycan in February, and 2 units in January. Olectra Greentech sold 2 units in January, and none in February 2022. In all, electric car sales in February 2022 rose to 2,352 units, up from 593 units YoY. In January 2022, total electric car sales were reported at just below 1.5k units.Indian electric vehicle marketIt’s no surprise that luxury car manufacturers have been at the fore when it comes to introducing electric cars to their product line-up here. With global demand for electric cars being much higher, it’s only a matter of time and product strategy for global names to introduce their electric line-up here.With most manufacturers here not disclosing a clear business plan where electric vehicles are concerned, one can only wait and watch. Currently at its infancy, growth projections until the end of the decade look positive. With great changes expected within 5 years, market share of electric cars is expected to be at just over 10 percent.  More

    125cc Motorcycles Sales Jan 2022 – Shine, Pulsar, Glamour, Raider, KTM

The segment usually caters to buyers looking for a commuter option with adequate performance for everyday use as well as occasional touring. Although the number of offerings in this space has reduced in recent past, they still command a sizable market share.A total of 1,99,471 units of 125cc motorcycles were sold across the country in January this year. While this figure is 39,447 units more than the total sales volume recorded in December 2021, this figure is 26,253 units less in comparison to January last year. This has resulted in an MoM growth of 24.65 percent and a YoY decline of 11.63 percent.125cc Motorcycles Sales Jan 2022 – Shine, Pulsar leadThe segment was headed by Honda CB Shine which recorded the maximum sales volume of 1,05,159 units in January this year. During the same month last year, Honda was able to dispatch 1,16,222 units of Shine which translated to YoY degrowth of 9.52 percent.On the other hand, the Japanese automaker sold only 68,061 units of the commuter bike in December last year which has resulted in an MoM growth of 54.51 percent. The second place was occupied by Bajaj which sells two models of the Pulsar brand in this space- Pulsar 125 and Pulsar NS125. Cumulatively, both bikes recorded a monthly volume of 44,181 units in January this year.125cc Motorcycle Sales Jan 2022 vs Jan 2021 (YoY)In comparison, the Chakan-based bikemaker was able to sell 47,080 units of 125cc Pulsar in January last year whereas this figure stood at 27,900 units in December 2021. Therefore, this led to a YoY drop of 6.16 percent and a YoY growth of 58.35 percent.Sales of Glamour, Super Splendor declineHero MotoCorp was able to sell 24,473 units of Glamour last month as compared to 22,681 units sold during the same month last year. This resulted in YoY growth of 7.90 percent. In December last year, the largest two-wheeler manufacturer sold 31,595 units of Glamour which resulted in an MoM decline of 22.54 percent.Glamour was followed by its sibling, Super Splendor with a total registered volume of 13,503 units last month. During January last year, Hero sold 37,225 units of Super Splendor which translates to a YoY drop of 63.73 percent. In December 2021, the sales volume for Super Splendor stood at 20,637 units, registering a MoM decline of 34.57 percent.125cc Motorcycle Sales Jan 2022 vs Dec 2021 (MoM)Raider Improves, KTM 125 DropsThe latest entrant in this list is TVS Raider which accumulated a volume of 11,377 units last month. In comparison, the Hosur-based bikemaker dispatched a total of 10,843 units of Raider in December last year leading to an MoM growth of almost 5 percent. KTM retails two motorcycles in the 125cc category namely- RC 125 and Duke 125. The former recently received a generation upgrade.Cumulatively, the Austrian brand was able to retail only 778 units of the 125cc offerings last month instead of 988 units in December 2021 and 2,516 units in January last year. This translates to MoM and YoY drops of 21.26 percent and 69 percent respectively. More

    Ola Electric Scooter Likely To Become No 1 In March – Aims 15k Deliveries

    Ola Electric appears to have overcome its teething troubles that were marked by things like delay in deliveries, product issues, etcHaving invested Rs 2,400 crore in building the largest EV manufacturing facility in the country, Ola Electric had set big targets in terms of production volumes and sales. The response has been phenomenal, with Ola claiming bookings worth around Rs 1,100 crore in just two days. This was last year in September, when the company had opened bookings for the first time.Ola Electric ScooterHowever, things were not going as smoothly as desired when it came to deliveries. Likely due to shortage of components, Ola Electric had to reschedule delivery timelines for its S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters. Customers were naturally not happy, as they had high expectations from the company. Moreover, several customers had reported issues with their Ola scooters.Production streamlinedSince the start of 2022, Ola Electric has worked to boost production and expedite deliveries. In January, Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal had said that production has been increased to almost 1,000 scooters per day. Evidence to that can be seen in February electric two-wheeler numbers, where Ola has posted sales of 3,905 units.With that, Ola has entered the top five list of best selling electric two-wheelers in the country. It is placed at 4th place, ahead of Ather Energy, TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto. MoM growth is 254%, as compared to 1102 units sold in January 2022.Ola Electric Scooter Deliveries – Target March 2022Providing more details about February sales, Bhavish has stated that Ola has actually delivered around 7,000 units in the month. He said that the mismatch in Vahan data is likely due to their direct-to-consumer (D2C) business model. The company does a lot of temp registrations, which are currently not counted on Vahan. This may change in future, as systems are updated to accommodate sales through the D2C model.15k deliveries expected in MarchAccording to Bhavish, Ola electric scooter deliveries are expected to touch 15k this month. If that turns out to be true, Ola Electric will emerge as the No 1 electric two-wheeler company in India in terms of sales. It will be a significant achievement, especially considering the fact that only around five months have passed since bookings opened.Companies that are currently ahead of Ola are Hero Electric, Okinawa and Ampere. Hero Electric leads the pack, commanding market share of around 30%. In February, Hero Electric had registered sales of 7,357 units. The company has partnered with Mahindra to boost production of its electric scooters.Electric two-wheelers are expected to witness increased demand in coming months. One key reason is fuel prices, which are likely to increase substantially. Crude oil prices have touched 14-year high and may rise further. Petrol prices may increase by as much as Rs 15 in coming days. This may prompt many users to switch to electric. More

    1995 Mercedes E320, Last of the W124s, Is Our Bring a Trailer Auction Pick of the Day

    • Mercedes sold its W124 mid-size sedan in the United States during the 1986–1995 model years.• This final-year W124 is a Canada-spec E320 and is offered without a reserve.• Bidding ends on March 14. As of March 9, it’s only at $6320.Sure, this rather plain 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 is not the flashiest or rarest machine currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer, but it still strikes a chord in the hearts of those nostalgic for the W124-era of Mercedes-Benz mid-size sedans. The Porsche-tuned, V-8–powered 500E or the AMG Hammer are arguably among the most exciting of the W124’s variants to emerge throughout the sedan’s decade-long run, but these models’ inherent rarity makes them all but unaffordable to the average enthusiast these days.

    That’s part of what makes this E320 so charming—its relative affordability. Of course, we won’t know what this Azure Blue Benz sells for until the auction closes next week. That said, this E320’s prior turn on Bring a Trailer in May 2020 saw it trade hands for $10,270.

    Even if it sells for 50 percent more this time around, this Mercedes still falls firmly in the affordable camp for classic-car sales.
