Cars, Two Wheelers, Cycles Per Household Across Indian States

This is because the purchasing power of an average Indian consumer has increased in recent times, leading to more families owning one or more vehicles.National Family Health Survey conducted between 2019 and 2021, data from 28 States and 2 UTs reveals that Goa has the highest percentage of cars and two-wheelers. The overall average for the entire nation was recorded at 49.7 percent for two-wheelers and 7.5 percent for passenger vehicles.Percentage households owning Cars, Two Wheelers and Bicycles In India% Households With Two-wheelerBoth these values are greater than previously recorded figures in the survey conducted for 2018. Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Scram And ADV – Spied Together

One can expect the new Himalayan 450 to be an improved product in almost every respectRoyal Enfield Himalayan 450 Scram and ADVRoyal Enfield is right in the middle of modernizing its entire product portfolio. After getting the Meteor up and running, the retro-classic specialist has turned its attention to renovating the Himalayan adventure tourer. RE is also busy developing a new variant of its 350 cc family in the form of Hunter 350.New Royal Enfield Himalayan 450Pre-series prototypes of next gen Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 have made a habit of getting photographed while they are on a mission to accumulate crucial test miles. This time, the new adventure tourer was captured along with what appears to be its scrambler sibling (we will talk about it later). Spy shots are credited to automotive enthusiast Karunakaran. As the development process progresses, the prototypes are inching closer to production version, and we like what we see. New RE Himalayan 450 appears to be enjoying a significantly improved level of perceived quality. Hardware enhancements come in the form of a new frame which is expected to be sturdier (better off-road performance), new inverted front forks and an all-new 450 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor.Nothing much is known about the engine as of now but we bet it will have much better output figures than the outgoing 411 cc air and oil-cooled unit which develops a rather modest 24 hp and 32 Nm of torque. It is also being said that the new engine will offer ride-by-wire technology which will enable ride modes. The RE loyalists would definitely love the boost in highway performance the new heart promises to bring on board.Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 ADVOther noteworthy changes include a larger fuel tank which will translate into improved range, wider and more comfortable 2-piece seats, a digital instrument cluster which is likely to incorporate smartphone connectivity of turn-by-turn navigation and an array of provisions for touring accessories. The motorcycle appears to have retained its predecessors 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels shod with dual-purpose tyres.Royal Enfield Scram 450 in the making?Interestingly, the Himalayan 450 was accompanied by another test mule. In the earlier post, we mentioned this motorcycle as Hunter 350. But that is not correct. Hat tip to our readers for the help. This new test mule is believed to be a scrambler version of the new Himalayan 450 ADV. Upon launch next year, the H450 twins are likely to have a similar setup on offer by RE, like the current Himalayan 411 and Scram 411.New Royal Enfield Scram 450 seems to be equipped with suspension setup (front gets conventional forks, against USD on ADV version), frame and engine identical to those of the former. The circular headlamp, simple instrument dial, flat handlebar and heavily contoured single-piece seat makes it a textbook scrambler. This variant adopts 17-inch alloy wheels with dual purpose tyres and a conventional telescopic front forks instead of the adventure tourer’s upside-down setup. The scrambler variant also features a different fuel tank.Royal Enfield Scram 450 HimalayanGiven that developing a new liquid-cooled engine ground up comes with a huge investment, it makes sense to maximize the return by employing it in more than just one product. We won’t be surprised if RE’s new mid-size motor finds itself on-board more products in addition to the new Himalayan and its Scrambler derivative. We expect RE to debut the new Himalayan 450 sometime later this year, probably at EICMA 2022 in Milan in November. The Scram 450 is also expected to debut at the same event, if not, it will follow in a few months’ time. With vast improvements and state-of-the-art technologies, the Indian adventure tourer will be a much more appealing prospect than its predecessor not only in the domestic market but also in the international markets. 2023 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 Edition 55 Features Aerodynamic, Cosmetic Upgrades

Like other “Edition 55” models, the upcoming CLA45 Edition 55 leans heavily on visual updates (and some aerodynamic changes) to offer a small number of buyers a different-looking CLA45 in the U.S. Only 55 units will be sold here. Most of the updates are visual, dominated by the Cosmos Black Metallic paint scheme and plenty of red/black Edition 55 accents on the exterior and inside. Plus, it comes with a free indoor car cover, to keep your new AMG protected when it’s not moving.Pricing has not yet been announced, but Edition 55 upgrades for the new CLA45 in Europe cost around $13,000 to $15,000.In order to celebrate 55 years of AMG, Mercedes-AMG is releasing a limited edition 2022 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 four-door coupe called Edition 55 that offers a number of aerodynamic and visual enhancements. The Edition 55 will be limited to 55 units in the U.S. and will go on sale later this year as a 2023 model.

    Mercedes-AMG

AMG fans will not be able to miss the upgrades Mercedes is making in the CLA45 Edition 55. All versions will get the AMG Aerodynamics package as standard. Although the CLA45 Edition 55 will be available in Digital White Metallic paint in some markets, the U.S. will get the car in Cosmos Black Metallic only. There will be plenty of high-gloss black accents sprinkled around the car to match the new exterior updates.

    Mercedes-AMG

Let’s start with the AMG Aerodynamics package, which is the only update to the Edition 55 that makes a noticeable difference in how the car moves through the air. The aero package adds a front apron with a larger front splitter, an AMG rear wing, new deflector elements on the simulated side air outlets of the rear apron, and a diffuser blade. The new wind shapes improve the car’s driving characteristics at high speeds, Mercedes said, but even when sitting still, they’ll offer high-gloss black accents that match the many visual changes. That list includes an AMG Night package and AMG Night package II, which brings the high-gloss black look to the front splitter and trim elements, like the AMG side sill panel inserts, the window line trim strip and the exterior mirror housings. Black chrome can be found on the tailpipe and the louvers in the front grille, while other AMG emblems on the vehicle’s side come in various grays or are transparent to fit in wherever they’re located. The CLA45 Edition 55 uses 19-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels in matte gray and, surprise, another “Edition 55” design element. The interior has been redone in black and red, which is a theme for the Edition 55 line. The CLA45 Edition 55 has red, illuminated lettering in the door sill panels, red and black floor mats and AMG Performance seats upholstered in two-tone red and black nappa leather. A customized AMG Indoor Car Cover is also part of the deal.Mercedes-AMG’s global birthday celebration has also given the world—i.e., different markets—Edition 55 versions of the A35, A45, CLA35, and G63. The 2022 Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 55 was announced for the U.S. in March (limited to 55 units), and that model received a unique exterior look and a red and black interior with lots of “55” references.Mercedes is not yet announcing pricing for the CLA45 Edition 55 in the U.S., but we can guess the rough cost premium based on the special models that will be available in Germany. There, the Edition 55 versions of the CLA45 4Matic and CLA45 S 4Matic can be had for an upcharge between around $13,100 and $14,870, depending on powertrain.

2023 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban Are the Latest GM Models to Offer Super Cruise

Chevy plans to add Super Cruise to its 2023 Tahoe and Suburban. The tech is limited to high-end Premier and High Country trims. The semiconductor shortage, however, may ultimately affect Chevy’s plans. The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are the latest General Motors models to offer the company’s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist system. Or at least that’s what the brand intends to happen.

“Due to current supply-chain shortages, certain features—including Super Cruise—have limited and late availability,” a spokesperson wrote in an email to Car and Driver. When asked if Chevrolet may ultimately need to push Super Cruise’s debut in the Tahoe and Suburban to the 2024 model year, the same spokesperson replied that Chevy is “continuing to monitor chip availability and will make this determination when our business deems appropriate in the model year cycle.”

We wager Chevy feels pretty confident it can get the needed semiconductor chips to bring Super Cruise to these two full-size SUVs for the 2023 model year. Otherwise, the bowtie brand would have surely pushed back announcing this information until it had a firmer grasp on its semiconductor chip situation.Nevertheless, it’s entirely possible Chevy released this information under the guise of “hoping for the best but planning for the worst.” If the worst does happen, and Chevy pulls Super Cruise from the options sheets of the 2023 Tahoe and Suburban, then buyers of these big SUVs will find the brand making only a handful of very small changes for the new model year. Three new exterior hues (Silver Sage Metallic, Sterling Gray Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat) are added to the two vehicles’ color palettes, while a new accessory grill, which forgoes the bowtie badge for the Chevrolet name, is available on LS, LT, RST, and Premier trims. That said, if Chevy succeeds at bringing Super Cruise to the 2023 Tahoe and Suburban, then consumers of these models ought to plan on spending big bucks for the Level 2 driving-assist system, as it’s limited to the SUVs’ pricey Premier and High Country trims.

Aprilia Scooter Prices May 2022 Hike – Storm 125, SXR 160, RST Carbon

Targeted at younger audience, Aprilia scooters are preferred for their sporty styling and dynamic performanceImage – Cars n Bikes GuideWith increasing commodity prices, several two-wheeler brands have announced price hikes in the last 6 months. Aprilia joins the list by increasing scooter prices across the range. It is possible that Aprilia motorcycles may also witness a price hike in the near future. The company currently offers bikes in the 660cc and 1,100cc range.Aprilia scooter prices May 2022Aprilia currently offers scooters in 125cc and 160cc categories. Prices have been increased in the range of Rs 6,276 to Rs 6,728. The most affordable is Aprilia Storm Disc, which will now cost Rs 1,06,331. Aprilia SR RST 125 new price is Rs 1,15,877, an increase of Rs 6,428. Next is Aprilia SR RST 160, available at a starting price of Rs 1,25,895.Aprilia SXR 125 new price is Rs 1,27,206, an increase of Rs 6,549. Folks interested in Aprilia SR RST Carbon will have to pay Rs 1,28,406, an increase of Rs 6,577. Aprilia SR RST Race is now available at Rs 1,35,147, an increase of Rs 6,657. Highest price hike of Rs 6,728 is for Aprilia SXR 160. It will now cost Rs 1,38,483.As compared to price hikes announced by other two-wheeler manufacturers, the quantum of hike is relatively more in case of Aprilia scooters. This may be due to the fact that most other OEMs choose to introduce smaller increments, multiple times in a year. In comparison, Aprilia appears to have increased prices all at once. It remains to be seen how the new prices will impact sales.Aprilia Scooter Prices May 2022Aprilia scooters vs. rivalsAprilia 125cc scooters have quite a few rivals such as TVS Ntorq 125, Suzuki Burgman Street 125, Avenis, Yamaha RayZR and Fascino, Honda Grazia and Hero Maestro Edge. However, in the 160cc segment, Aprilia currently has only Yamaha Aerox 155 as the primary rival. Aerox 155 was launched last year in September at a starting price of Rs 1.29 lakh. It is now priced at about Rs 1.37 lakh, ex-sh.Demand for higher capacity scooters is relatively less here. In the same price range, most users will prefer to choose a motorcycle. However, Aprilia can be credited with making the first move. It is possible that new products could be introduced, as demand picks up for these high performance scooters. The likes of Honda and Suzuki will be looking to tap this space if there are ample opportunities. In terms of performance, Aprilia scooters are almost equal in comparison to their respective rivals. Aprilia 125cc scooters are powered by a 125cc 4V TECH FI engine that generates 9.92 PS of max power and 9.7 Nm of peak torque. Aprilia 160cc scooters utilize a 160cc motor that makes 11 PS and 11.6 Nm.In the future, Aprilia may also launch electric scooters here. While there is no official confirmation, a hint comes from Piaggio’s plans to develop an electric scooter that is specially designed for India. The powertrain can be used for both Vespa and Aprilia electric scooters. More

Electric Cars' Turning Point May Be Happening as U.S. Sales Numbers Start Climb

Mass-market electric vehicles have been available in the U.S. for over a decade, but we’ve only seen small, incremental changes in sales for most of that time. In the first three months of 2022, though, EV registrations shot up an astonishing 60 percent even as the overall market was down 18 percent. With great EV sales comes great charging station responsibility, and figuring out how to offer public charging options to all of these new EV drivers is an ongoing concern.American car shoppers seem to have discovered the electric car. After a decade of slow but steady sales growth, electric vehicle registrations in the U.S. shot up 60 percent in the first quarter of 2022 even as overall new car registrations dropped 18 percent. It’s the latest indication that domestic EV acceptance may have turned some important but invisible corner recently. The sharp increase in electric-vehicle registrations at the start of this year meant that the EV share of the overall market hit a historic 4.6 percent. While places like Norway—where over 86 percent of all new vehicle sales were electric in March—may laugh at that number, EV advocates know that change happens slowly, then all at once, or something like that.

One big reason we’re seeing more EVs in people’s driveways is the explosion in exciting new models, from the Ford F-150 Lightning to the Kia EV6 to the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Experian calculated that there were 158,689 new EV registrations in the first three months of the year. The big winners were EVs from Tesla (up 59 percent to 113,882 new registrations), Kia (up more than eight-fold to 8,450) Ford (up 91 percent to 7,407) and Hyundai (up more than 300 percent, to 6,964), according to Automotive News. These plus other EV sales (the Nissan Leaf and the Volkswagen ID.4 were both in the top 10) meant the segment grew to that 4.6 percent record, which means that a total of 3.4 million new cars were registered last quarter.More EVs on the road might seem like good news, but some people see danger ahead, particularly when it comes to public charging. Despite the fact that most EV charging happens at home, this isn’t a solution for everyone, which means public charging needs to be readily available for some to keep raising the number of EVs sold. The age-old chicken vs. egg story remains alive and well in the EV charging infrastructure world, with a story in the Los Angeles Times last month saying that DC fast-charging station operators need eight to 10 charge sessions a day to turn a “decent return,” but if you also need to have enough fast-chargers available so that drivers don’t face too many waiting times. Finding the balance, especially with EV sales surging, could prove difficult.

Supply-chain problems plaguing the auto industry may have an impact on which cars are being sold, given that some automakers have to make production decisions about which models to build or not build based on the supply of semiconductor chips or other components in short supply. If you’ll allow a bit of speculation, the fact that EVs command more attention from the public and the higher starting prices for many EVs could be two potential reasons for automakers to prioritize EVs over internal combustion engine vehicles. Automotive News notes that it and Experian used registration data to get a clearer picture of EV sales in the U.S., since, for example, Tesla does not release sales figures. Other industry analysts have slightly different figures for EV sales at the start of 2022, but they all show major increases compared to last year. Cox Automotive’s estimate of the EV market share for the first quarter of 2022, for example, was 5.2 percent compared to 2.5 percent in 2021. Whatever the exact numbers, something’s certainly happening out there.
