1966 Ford Mustang Is Our Bring a Trailer Auction Pick of the Day

    • This 1966 Ford Mustang High Country special-edition coupe is up for sale on the Bring a Trailer auction site. It’s one of 333 built from the model year to be exclusively sold by Colorado-area dealers. With three days to go, bidding currently stands at $16,750.• Though the Timberline Green paint caught my eye, the iconic coupe body reminded me I started restoring one of these in 1998.• Yes, started restoring in 1998. The internet is full of wormholes to waste endless hours. But for the automotive enthusiast, Bring a Trailer—which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos—is a great place to tune out news or the grind of the daily life and search for the vehicle you’ve always wanted. Or remind yourself of a project you started 24 years ago and have yet to complete. This 1966 Ford Mustang High Country did exactly that for me.

    Bring a Trailer

During my high-school years, my father and I were looking for a restoration project. Well before things like BaT existed, we’d scour the weekly periodicals searching for the right candidate. My old man was a 20-year seasoned mechanic at the local Ford dealer, so naturally a Mustang felt right. We bought our 1966 coupe for a few thousand dollars and limped it home with the intention of having it done in two years in time for my senior prom. Oh, the joys of wishful thinking.

    Bring a Trailer

Just like this High Country Special—a trim reserved for Colorado-area dealers that featured unique paint options and fender badges—our Coupe was powered by a 210-hp 289-cubic-inch V-8 backed by a three-speed automatic transmission. “Was” being the key word, because the following day ours was stripped nearly to its shell that, unlike this 74,000-mile example, featured a structure that was Swiss-cheesed with Midwest rot. The Fred Flintstone floorboards would need to be cut out, and the front subframe would require a weekend’s worth of time and countless spot-weld drill bits to free it from its original mounting position.

    Bring a Trailer

Over the next few years, the structure would regain a floor and a frame, and the underbody would be ground to bare metal to be primed and finished with a rubberized undercoating. Its sheetmetal’s 30 years of dings and dents were smoothed out with body filler and countless layers of buildable primer. The beauty of restoring an old Mustang is that every single nut, bolt, and screw is available. Heck, you can even order an entire body if you want to start fresh. With new suspension hung, the transmission rebuilt, a disc brake conversion mounted, and a limited-slip differential bolted into the rear-axle, it hasn’t been touched in 22 years. I like to tell people we’re letting the primer cure.

    Bring a Trailer

If you want a project, seek one out. But if you’re in the market for something turnkey like this somewhat rare 1966 Ford Mustang High Country Special, keep an eye on Bring a Trailer and do some digital tire-kicking like we do.

2023 Maserati Grecale Looks Sporty and Packs up to 523 HP

The 2023 Maserati Grecale is a new crossover model that’s smaller than the Levante. It will come with either a turbo four-cylinder, a twin-turbo V-6, or an electric powertrain. The Grecale will go on sale in the U.S. this summer, with the electric Folgore model following a year later.By now we’ve all gotten used to the idea that Maserati sells sedans and SUVs, but how about a Maserati compact crossover with a four-cylinder engine? The new 2023 Grecale brings the Maserati lineup even further downmarket into the luxury SUV sphere currently occupied by models such as the Porsche Macan and Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Given that the mid-size Levante SUV makes up nearly 60 percent of Maserati sales globally, a smaller sibling was all but inevitable.
At 190.8 inches long with a 114.2-inch wheelbase, the Grecale is a bit larger than the Stelvio and Macan but has similar proportions, with a rounded greenhouse and a relatively low nose. Its grille shape and vertically oriented headlights reference the mid-engine MC20 supercar’s and represent Maserati’s latest design language that’s distinct from what we see on the older Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte models.

The Grecale lineup will include three gas-powered offerings at first, along with an electric variant called the Folgore coming next year that we’ve covered separately. The base GT spec comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and a 48-volt hybrid system that makes 296 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The Modena has a slightly more powerful version of this engine with 325 horsepower. And the top-dog Trofeo has a detuned version of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 from the MC20 that features the same pre-chamber ignition system. In this application, it makes 523 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque, versus the MC20’s 621 hp and 538 pound-feet.Maserati claims the four-cylinder models will get to 60 mph in the low-5.0-second range, while the Trofeo is clearly aiming for the Porsche Macan GTS, BMW X3 M, and other performance SUVs with its claimed run to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and top speed of 177 mph. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard across the board. An air suspension and adaptive dampers are optional on the four-cylinder variants and standard on the Trofeo. The performance model also gets 21-inch wheels and upgraded brakes, and both the Modena and Trofeo’s rear tires are wider than their fronts.
The Grecale’s interior is more screen-heavy than any Maserati we’ve seen before. Both the digital gauge cluster and central infotainment screens measure 12.3 inches, and there’s also a smaller 8.8-inch touchscreen lower on the dash that controls various climate and vehicle functions. Even the clock on top of the dash is digital, although its display mimics an analog watch face. Various interior trim options include open-pore wood, gloss-black inserts, and contrasting stitching, while the Trofeo has carbon-fiber trim and a different pattern for the leather upholstery.Maserati has priced the Grecale ambitiously, as it starts at $64,995 for the base GT model, significantly more than the $56,250 base Macan. A Modena Limited Edition will be available for reservations first, starting at $78,895. Pricing for the Trofeo is not yet available but it will likely start above $80,000. The Grecale will go on sale in the U.S. this summer.

2024 Maserati Grecale Folgore EV Promises Big Battery, Lots of Torque

The Folgore is an electric version of Maserati’s new Grecale SUV.It has a 105.0-kWh battery pack and promises up to 590 pound-feet of torque. The Folgore will go on sale in the U.S. in fall 2023.The new Grecale crossover will be a key part of Maserati’s expanding EV lineup. All Maserati EVs will wear the Folgore name (that means “lightning” in Italian), and Maserati has now revealed the 2024 Grecale Folgore alongside the standard model. The gas-powered 2023 Grecale GT, Modena, and Trofeo models are scheduled to arrive this summer, while the Folgore won’t reach the U.S. until fall 2023.

While we wait, Maserati has provided a few juicy specs for the EV. It will have a 105.0-kWh battery pack and its electric motors—we assume there will be at least two—will produce 590 pound-feet of torque. Maserati has not yet confirmed whether this battery information represents net capacity or usable capacity, but either way the Grecale Folgore’s pack is shaping up to be on the bigger end of its segment. The Audi Q4 e-tron’s battery, for instance, offers 77.0-kWh of usable energy. The torque figure, meanwhile, tops the Grecale Trofeo’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, which has 457 pound-feet.
Visually the Folgore appears to have the exact same body as the gas model, but a few key details identify it as the electric model. The concave grille appears to be different and is partially closed off, and there are also interesting-looking wheels and Folgore badges on the fenders. The pictured vehicle is finished in a copper color called Rame Folgore that’s exclusive to the electric Grecale. Maserati also says it will use recycled fabrics for the Folgore’s interior, including a recycled nylon material called Econyl.Rather than riding on one of Stellantis’ new electric platforms, the Grecale Folgore uses a modified version of the Giorgio platform that underpins the standard Grecale and other gas models such as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. We’re not sure what that will mean for the packaging of the electric motors and battery pack, but Maserati confirmed that the Folgore will offer all-wheel drive as standard.Look for Maserati to charge a significant price premium for the Folgore compared with the standard Grecale, which starts at $64,995. Given what we’ve heard so far about its specs, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it start at around $75,000.

2023 KTM Duke 125 Spied Testing – New Features, More Power

All-new KTM Duke 125 will feature a range of cosmetic and mechanical updates – Launch expected in 20232023 KTM Duke 125 New GenAs may be recalled, KTM had launched current generation Duke range in 2017, starting with 390 Duke. In the following years, the platform was used for other single-cylinder Dukes such as 200 Duke, 250 Duke and 125 Duke. As revealed in spy shots, KTM is currently working on an all-new KTM Duke range. Some big changes can be expected including an offset type rear monoshock suspension.New KTM Duke 125 MY2023 – Spied2023 KTM Duke 125 test mule appears to have borrowed some of the new design features from the existing range of twin-cylinder Dukes. For example, the fuel tank seems larger and tank extensions have a much sharper look. Some updates like the five spoke alloy design seem to be inspired from new KTM RC390.Another noticeable difference is the use of double LED headlamp. It is to note that the entire range of current generation single-cylinder Dukes including 125 Duke sold in international markets are equipped with LED lights.New versions of KTM Duke spotted on road tests appear to be the new 125 Duke. They provide vital clues as to what the entire single-cylinder Duke range could look like in its new format. Manufacturers often use the same platform for multiple products, as it reduces development cost and simplifies availability of spare parts.2023 KTM Duke 125 New GenImages reveal that KTM is testing a range of new components including bodywork and chassis. One of the key changes can be seen in the trellis frame, which now has a greater number of crossbeams. This is expected to ensure a robust and stiffer setup. Another noticeable difference can be seen in the sub frame, which appears to be longer than the current version.2023 KTM Duke 125 New GenNew KTM Duke 125 MY2023 UpdatesOn closer inspection, it is evident that the mounting points for the engine have been changed. Even the engine casings do not look the same as that of the current Duke 125. Motorrad Online claims that the engine has been updated. It is expected to deliver more power and torque. Fuel efficiency is also likely to improve. We may have to wait some more time to get better clarity on the exact power and torque figures of 2023 KTM 125 Duke.Towards the rear, the swingarm looks brand new with a lattice-type structure. It also has a bracing arm. Another key change is the offset monoshock that could replace the existing centrally mounted units on current generation Dukes. However, since the test mules appear to be in an early stage of testing, not all changes may make it to the production stage.2023 KTM Duke 125 New Gen with existing Duke 125All-new KTM Duke range could debut later this year at the EICMA in Nov 2022. These will be launched in India soon after, likely by Feb 2023. With the updates, new KTM Dukes are expected to be launched at a higher price range.Source More

Buick Could Be Adopting This New Tri-Shield Logo

General Motors has filed to trademark a new Buick logo with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Unlike Buick’s current logo, the three shields in the new one are horizontally aligned instead of diagonally. The trademark filing doesn’t mention if the new logo will have colors or be monochromatic. The Buick brand has been trying to reinvent itself over the past several years, between deleting exterior name badges and switching to an all-SUV lineup. Now, the company appears to be preparing to adopt a redesigned version of its traditional tri-shield logo. The news comes after it was discovered that General Motors filed a trademark on March 16, 2022, with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Based on an image of the new-look logo that was submitted with the filing, the three shields are now aligned horizontally instead of diagonally. The diagonal stripe inside each shield has also been swapped for a downward-swooping line, and the ring that previously surrounded the trio of shields has been removed.

    Buick

The current Buick logo features one red, one silver, and one blue shield. However, we don’t know whether or not the new logo will see the return of that color combination or if it’ll be monochromatic. After all, Cadillac recently revealed a new black-and-white logo for its upcoming EVs. Plus, Buicks have worn monochrome logos before, and the application specifically states that GM didn’t claim color as a feature of the mark, so it remains to be seen. What also remains to be seen is what Buick model the new logo will be introduced on. The trademark application still needs to be assigned to an examiner, which is said to take about six months after the filing date. Depending on the length of the process, maybe we could see the new logo start appearing on 2023 model vehicles, or the company could be waiting to unveil it on a potential future model like the all-electric Electra. The timing could be coincidental, but GM at the end of last year filed to trademark the “Buick Electra” nameplate.

    Buick

If Buick does adopt the new-look logo, it’ll be the second time in the past decade that it has revised the tri-shield insignia. Back in 2015, the brand announced a design change that at the time featured wing-shaped elements and brought the return of the three-color shields. It debuted on the 2017 Buick LaCrosse sedan and then proliferated across the lineup starting with the 2018 model year.
