Sales of popular scooters like Ola, Ather, iQube and Bajaj has risen more than 10 times (YoY) in April 20222022 TVS iQube Electric ScooterWith fuel prices at an all-time high, electric scooters have been witnessing a significant jump in sales. This is despite the safety concerns that have been raised in recent times with multiple electric scooters catching fire. Continual expansion of charging infrastructure is also a key factor why customers are no longer averse to buying an electric scooter. In April 2022, sales of popular scooters such as Ola, Ather, iQube and Bajaj was at 19,143 units. YoY growth is a whopping 917.70%, as compared to just 1,881 units sold in the corresponding period last year. In the last 12 months, total cumulative sales of Chetak and iQube are at 8,923 units and 11,886 units, respectively. Both scooters have quite a few similarities, in terms of their range, top speed, charging time, warranty, etc.Chetak Vs iQube Sales – Last 12 monthsSales numbers reveal that iQube has been ahead of Chetak for six consecutive months, from November 2021 to April 2022. As compared to Chetak, TVS iQube’s relatively affordable pricing could be a factor that explains its higher sales numbers. It could also be due to production constraints that Bajaj is facing on account of global shortage of auto components.iQube’s highest monthly sales this year was in February when 2,238 units were sold. Chetak’s best was in January, with sales at 1,268 units. If iQube can maintain the momentum, it could register higher sales than Chetak in CY2022. Last year also, iQube was ahead of Chetak in annual sales. Recently TVS announced the launch of updated iQube with more range and features. This makes the e-scooter even more attractive to buyers. Bajaj is also working on launching updated Chetak sometime later this year. More

Royal Enfield Pegasus 650cc Black Stallion – Modified Continental GT

The stock Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is powered by a 648cc, oil-cooled, parallel-twin motor that kicks out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torqueRoyal Enfield Pegasus 650cc Black StallionIt is pointless to mention the affinity Royal Enfield owners share with the aftermarket industry. By now our readers might be well acquainted with why Royal Enfield bikes are so popular with aftermarket custom shops, thanks to countless examples of modifications. The latest example is a custom bike built for the drag strip by a Parisian workshop in France. This outlet is run by its founder Walid Ben Lamine and is known for some exquisite customisation works over the years. This project has been officially commissioned by Royal Enfield.Royal Enfield Pegasus 650cc – Styling HighlightsBased on Continental GT 650, this custom bike has been rechristened as “Pegasus l’Étalon Noir” which translates to ‘Pegasus the Black Stallion’. The images are a testimony that serious updates have taken place on the donor bike to give it this avatar. The bike sits much lower than the stock cafe racer and is draped in handmade black-coloured carbon fibre clothing. The carbon fibre body panels including front registration plate, tank cover and tail section have been derived from 3D-printed prototype parts. In addition, fuel is stored in a custom-made aluminium reservoir mounted under the actual fuel tank. The custom handlebar has been positioned as low as halfway down the front fork. The cockpit has been stripped to bare essentials including a Koso speedo and Beringer levers.Royal Enfield Pegasus 650cc Black StallionUpdated HardwareOn closer look, one notices the angular edges on its panels that reflect the sole objective of building this motorcycle- to go fast. Since this bike has been specifically built for a drag strip, the aim is to go fast in a straight line and hence the wheelbase has been elongated substantially. To achieve this, the stock swingarm was stretched and braced it with new steel sections laced with chrome.Other changes to the hardware include a new suspension setup comprising an Öhlins mono-shock at rear replacing the stock twin-shock arrangement. For this, Bad Winners has fabricated a new upper shock mount and subframe. It also gets new footpeg mounts connected with new footpegs. Further, the bike rolls on Dumas UP7X aluminium rims wrapped with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa slicks which provide required traction.New HeartStopping duties are handled by a Beringer single disc and calliper on both front and rear wheels. Major tweaking has been done on its powertrain with a custom-built 865cc twin-cylinder heart with a big bore kit sourced from S&S Cycle in the US. This unit consists of an upgraded camshaft, Carillo connecting rods and a reinforced clutch. Modifications have also been done on the cylinder heads.Royal Enfield Pegasus 650cc Black StallionThe stock airbox has been swapped for a pair of velocity stacks. For an additional boost, a canister of nitrous system from Nitrous Express has been added making it a lethal weapon on the drag strip. However, official output figures from this setup haven’t been revealed. More

Tata Electric Cars Waiting Period – Nexon EV, MAX, Tigor EV, XpresT

Tata Motors is the leading electric car manufacturer of India – Waiting period is up to 4 monthsTata Nexon ElectricTata Motors is one company that delivers on their vision. Under the able Ratan Tata, Tata Motors has achieved a lot of difficult feats in India. Tata launched the Indica in 1998 which was the first indigenously developed car in India. A car so good, it revolutionized Indian automotive history.Ratan Tata’s vision was brought to life in the form of the Tata Nano in 2008 which was the cheapest production car in the world. Tata Nexon has its fair share in Tata Motor’s legacy as it was the first Indian vehicle to score 5-stars in Global NCAP’s crash tests. Now, Tata Motors seems to have achieved a legacy feat when it comes to electric mobility with the Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max.Tata Electric Car Waiting PeriodMahindra tried to capture the EV market in India with polarizing products like E2o, E2o Plus and the eVerito which failed. Tata Motors began its EV journey with the Tigor EV catering to Government tenders and fleet owners. Then it launched the Nexon EV with decent performance and range and was an overall well-rounded product. It was so good, that it soon became the best-selling electric car in the country. Making Tata Motors, the largest selling EV manufacturer in India.Today, Tata Motors has on sale 4 electric cars. These are Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max, Tigor EV and XpresT. The first three are for the passenger market, while the latter is for the commercial segment only. Depending on the variant and city, the waiting period extends up to 4 months.Tata Electric Car waiting period. Hat tip – Motor Arena India.Tata Nexon EV MaxNexon EV sells in good numbers and has very high demand from Indian customers. Tata Motors recently launched the Nexon EV Max with a bigger 40.5 kWh battery, better performance, better features and most importantly, a better range of 437 km on a single charge. It costs around Rs. 1.5 lakh to 2.0 lakh (ex-sh) over the standard Nexon EV.In just 6 days from the launch of the Nexon EV Max, it has garnered a lot of bookings which has driven the waiting period of the Nexon EV Max to 4 months. Demand for the standard Nexon EV is also high. We have seen absurd waiting periods for internal combustion engine-powered vehicles of up to 20 months. Garnering this type of demand in EVs in a developing country like India with poor charging infrastructure is remarkable.Price and LaunchTata Nexon EV is priced between Rs. 14.7 lakh (ex-sh) for the XM variant and Rs. 17.4 lakh (ex-sh) for XZ Plus Lux Dark Edition. Whereas the Nexon EV Max is priced between Rs. 17.74 lakh (ex-sh) for the XZ Plus 3.3 kW charger and Rs. 19.24 lakh for XZ Plus Lux 7.2 kW charger. While the Nexon EV still poses as the better choice for users with less highway use, The Nexon EV Max appeals to the users with occasional or daily highway use. Tata Motors is expected to start deliveries of the Nexon EV Max in the month of June. With Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max, Tata has established itself as a mainstream EV manufacturer for the masses. More

1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopio Is Today's BaT Auction Pick

    • This 1975 Lamborghini Countach is an early LP400 “Periscopio” model.• Although thoroughly outrageous, the LP400 has a clean design compared to the later bewinged models.• This one is up for sale on Bring a Trailer, with the auction ending on Friday, June 3.Lamborghini effectively created the supercar genre with the stunning Miura of the late 1960s. Following up such a landmark design is a prospect that might have paralyzed most designers, but Bertone’s Marcello Gandini was up to the task. His Countach was absolutely nothing like the Miura and yet equally monumental.

    Bring a Trailer

    Bring a Trailer

The Countach made its debut at the 1971 Geneva auto show, but Lamborghini’s financial situation being what it was (a hot mess), production didn’t start until 1974. The early cars are the purest expression of Gandini’s vision with their incredible proportion, outlandish scissor doors, and wild surface treatment. One key element that gives them their “Periscopio” designation: a groove cut into the roof that allows for a (limited) rear view over the mid-mounted V-12.

    Bring a Trailer

    Bring a Trailer

This 1975 example on Bring a Trailer, which like Car and Driver is part of Hearst Autos, has that feature, but it didn’t always. Although the car is today in its as-built configuration and color (Tahiti Blue), at some point in its past, a previous owner performed a tragically ill-advised update, adding fender flares and a rear wing, converting to a flat roof, and repainting it red. An exhaustive restoration in 2017—which is cataloged in the listing in great detail—put the car back to its original spec. This Lambo’s class win at the 2019 Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance attests to the quality of the work.

    Bring a Trailer

Move beyond the outlandish exterior, and there’s more to love. The interior of this early car has some fun details such as the lounge-like seats, the gated shifter, the crank windows, and a vertical odometer. The odo shows 14,000 miles. Not everyone will appreciate this Countach’s denuded form. Those of a maximalist bent might prefer this 1989 25th Anniversary Edition, also up for auction. At this writing, bidding on the “Periscopio” stands at $750,000. This is the earliest Countach ever to be auctioned on BaT, and it will be interesting to see whether it surpasses the previous top sale, a 1987 Countach 5000 QV with fender flares and a rear wing, in red. That one went for $860,000. The current auction ends on Friday, June 3.

    Prodrive's P25 Will Be a Subaru Impreza 22B Revival with 400 HP

U.K. motorsport firm Prodrive is responsible for some of the coolest Subaru rally cars on the planet. It plans to pay tribute to those cars by releasing a limited run of what it calls the P25, a lightweight, modernized, high-horsepower GC8-generation Impreza coupe. Like the legendary 22B on which it’s inspired, the P25 will use a 2.5-liter boxer-four engine that sends power to all four wheels. Thanks to modern tech and tuning ability, Prodrive claims the engine will make “in excess of 400 hp,” a big step up from the 22B’s 300-hp rating. Instead of a traditional manual gearbox, the P25 will use a sequential transmission with paddle shifters. It’ll also be incredibly lightweight thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber.

Prodrive has yet to release any photos of the P25, but did show off a single sketch of the car. It shares much of its design with the 22B, but sports a lower stance, bigger wheels, larger brakes, and rally-inspired side mirrors. “The original 22B Impreza is considered the most iconic of Subarus and highly sought after,” Prodrive chairman David Richards said in a statement. “We wanted to enhance everything that made that car so special by applying the very latest technology to create our own modern interpretation of a car that’s established a place in motoring history.”Prodrive will reveal the P25 in June at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The rally shop plans to build just 25 examples and is now taking “expressions of interest” for those who want to get in line. Pricing has not yet been revealed, though considering all of the high-end custom work done, don’t expect it to be cheap.

Hero Electric Aims To Beat Ola And Become No 1 In E-Scooter Sales

Hero Electric has one of the widest portfolios of electric two-wheelers in India with as many as 14 models in its lineupOla became No 1 in April 2022, beating Hero ElectricHero Electric was among the first major brands to set foot in the electric vehicle space in India by launching its electric two-wheeler back in 2007. Today, there are multiple players in the industry, especially in the battery-powered two-wheeler space, including established auto brands as well as newly founded EV startups.Despite multiple new entrants in the battery-powered two-wheeler segment, Hero had held its top spot; until last month when Ola Electric took the numero uno position. In April 2022, Hero Electric was unable to dispatch a single unit to any of its dealerships across the country.Hero Electric Confident Regaining Top SpotHowever, the Delhi-based EV manufacturer is confident of regaining its position as a market leader in the near future. Managing Director of Hero Electric, Naveen Munjal assured that the company will make a turnaround very soon. Thanks to an acute shortage of semiconductor chips, Ola Electric was able to dethrone Hero from the top position last month.Munjal revealed that Hero remains committed to triple sales and regaining its leadership position even though chip shortage is likely to impact its operations for a few more months. He further added that shortages that Hero Electric currently faces are planned shortages which are temporary and not a long-term challenge.Hero Electric Scooter Optima HXExpansions of Sales & ProductionHe expects production to stabilize in the next few months although he admitted that demand is so huge that the company will not be able to fulfill it entirely. Hero Electric managed to sell around 100,000 units of its electric scooters in fiscal 2022. It has set a target of retailing around 250,000-300,000 units in the current financial year.In order to achieve an annual capacity of 500,000 units by the end of this calendar year, Hero is expanding its existing production facility in Ludhiana, Punjab. The EV brand also has additional capacity available at partner Mahindra’s factory in Madhya Pradesh. Over the course of the next five years, Hero plans to set up multiple manufacturing facilities to achieve a cumulative capacity of 5 million units per annum.Future Plans for Hero ElectricHero Electric has one of the widest portfolios as far as electric two-wheelers are concerned. The brand currently retails as many as 14 models that are based on five platforms and intends to launch multiple new scooters this year. The new launches will cater to both categories- city speed and high speed. However, Hero is focussing on the former at present since the city speed segment will bring in mass volumes.Models in the higher end will come once as drivetrains and batteries improve. Since there was no sale in April this year, Hero Electric conducted a safety month where it educated its consumers about battery functioning and how it needs to be maintained and to tell tale signs of a problem. This was in the backdrop of numerous fire incidents on electric scooters occurring across the country in recent times.Source More
