Mini Sends a Puzzle to Customers Whose New Cars Aren't Ready Yet

With supply-chain issues delaying car deliveries for many customers, Mini has turned to a creative solution to satiate its eagerly waiting customers: a puzzle. The “We’re-working-hard-to-get-you-you-car, waiting-is-the-worst, in-the-meantime-happy-puzzling, Mini Puzzle,” or Not So Mini puzzle for short, will be sent to customers to complete while they wait for their cars. Some customers will receive a life-size puzzle, while others will receive a normal-size puzzle. If you’re waiting for your new car to be delivered and have an extra spot in your garage, the obvious next step is to put together a car-sized puzzle in the empty space. At least, that’s what Mini thinks.Like the rest of the automotive industry, the maker of lilliputian cars is experiencing supply-chain issues leading to car-delivery delays. Unlike the rest of the industry, however, Mini is addressing those issues with a puzzle. It announced Friday that it would be sending life-size and regular-size puzzles featuring an image of the distinctive cars to customers waiting for the delivery of their vehicle.

The puzzle, known officially as THE WE’RE-WORKING-HARD-TO-GET-YOU-YOUR-CAR, WAITING-IS-THE-WORST, IN-THE-MEANTIME-HAPPY-PUZZLING, MINI PUZZLE, has a name worthy of a Fall Out Boy song title in its length. However, the brand has generously given everyone permission to call it the Not So Mini puzzle instead. The Not So Mini puzzle will come in two sizes, with select customers receiving a life-sized version, perfect for filling the Mini-sized emptiness in their garage. Others on the waitlist will receive a more kitchen-table-appropriate puzzle. Still, regardless of the size of the puzzle the customer receives, Mini hopes that this initiative will “surprise and delight” them, and it plans to feature new owners and their puzzles, both complete and in-progress, on its social media channels.Mini spokesperson Rah Mahtani said in a statement, “People buy a Mini because of its cheeky and fun-to-drive spirit, so we wanted to give owners something fun to do while they wait to get behind the wheel of their new Mini.”Even though the brand admits that most customers would rather have a leather steering wheel in their hands than a puzzle, it wants to turn an unfortunate reality into a unique experience in the meantime. After all, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, and when life gives you automotive supply-chain puzzles, you make a real puzzle.

2023 Ford F-150 Heritage Edition Revives Old-School Paint Scheme

The 2023 Ford F-150 lineup adds a Heritage Edition to celebrate the nameplate’s 75th birthday. The Heritage Edition revives an old-school, two-tone paint scheme and includes some unique interior bits. The Heritage Edition is only available on XLT models, with pricing to be announced in mid-July.The Ford F-150 was born in 1948 and has gone on to become one of the best-selling vehicles in America. Now, Ford is celebrating the popular pickup truck’s 75th birthday with the new 2023 F-150 Heritage Edition. However, instead of commemorating the F-150’s milestone with high-performance upgrades or unique features, the special edition simply brings the revival of an old-school paint scheme. It’s essentially a two-tone look, but the two primary colors are split into three separate sections. One of the colors covers the truck’s middle area and the other color covers the roof and its pillars as well as the bumpers and lower bodywork.

    Ford

The F-150 Heritage Edition can be had in five different color configurations. There’s Race Red between Carbonized Gray, Atlas Blue between Agate Black, Antimatter Blue between Carbonized Gray, Avalanche between Agate Black, and Area 51 between Agate Black. Unfortunately, Ford doesn’t offer any yellow or green hues that might recall funkier F-150s from the ’70s and ’80s.

    Ford

The inside of the Heritage Editions doesn’t include much to celebrate other than a few subtle details. The only cabin color is gray with black trim, but the seats feature distinct inserts and the cover of the center console is embossed with “Since 1948 F-Series Heritage Edition.” The only other mentions of the truck’s anniversary are logos that say “75 Years” on the center console, on the top of the windshield, and as part of the infotainment system’s startup animation. The commemorative appearance package is only available on XLT models. Ford says the ’23 F-150 Heritage Edition will start production this fall, with pricing to be announced when orders open in the middle of July.

VW ID.Aero Concept Previews an EV Sedan, and It's Coming to the U.S.

The Volkswagen ID.Aero is the latest member of VW’s electric ID family. It’s a mid-size sedan with similar styling as the ID.4 SUV and a claimed range of over 300 miles. This is the concept version, but VW confirmed that a production car is coming to the U.S. soon.Volkswagen kicked off its ID family of electric vehicles with the most mainstream of bodystyles—the ID.4 compact SUV—and then went a little wild with the funky, retro ID.Buzz minivan. Now it’s reining things back in with another familiar-looking silhouette: the ID.Aero mid-size sedan. Though shown as a concept car here, a production model is coming soon that’s based on the same MEB platform as those other vehicles.

    Volkswagen

The ID.Aero name emphasizes its aerodynamic qualities, and indeed, Volkswagen claims that the sedan has a drag coefficient of 0.23. That’s not quite as good as the Mercedes-Benz EQS’ claimed 0.20, but plenty slippery nonetheless. This should help its range compared with the taller ID.4, which is EPA-rated at up to 275 miles of range. Volkswagen says that the ID.Aero will provide a driving range of 385 miles on the more lenient WLTP cycle, and we think it will crest the 300-mile mark on the tougher U.S. EPA cycle. At around 190 inches long, the ID.Aero is about the size of the outgoing mid-size Passat sedan. Its design largely mimics its SUV sibling’s, with similar-looking headlights and taillights, chrome trim around the roofline, a black roof, and familiar side surfacing. The touch-sensitive door handles and large 22-inch wheels may not make it to production, but we think the final product won’t change too much compared with this concept. There aren’t any photos of the interior available yet.

    Volkswagen

VW says that this sedan will be its electric flagship model, and that it will be sold in Europe, China, and North America. When it arrives in the U.S., it’ll compete with models such as the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Polestar 2. Look for the production version of the ID.Aero to debut sometime next year.

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 650 On Official Website – Cruiser 650cc Name?

Royal Enfield has used the Thunderbird name before on their cruisersRoyal Enfield Thunderbird 650 – Render Cruiser 650ccRoyal Enfield motorcycles have impressed enthusiasts with their vintage charm and retro appeal. Of late, RE motorcycles have also been impressive where engineering is concerned. Already a ruler in the 350cc and 650cc segment, the company wants to expand its portfolio further in these segments. The Chennai-based company has been working on a new breed of motorcycles. We can expect their next new offering in the month of August, likely to be called Hunter 350. They also have the Bullet 350 new gen, as well as an all new 450cc scrambler and adventure-tourer planned for sometime next year.Royal Enfield Thunderbird 650Apart from these, we have also seen spy shots of new RE motorcycles based on 650cc platform. One was rumoured to be Super Meteor 650 and the other was rumoured to be based on Shotgun 650 concept. Speaking about the Super Meteor 650 cruiser, there is an interesting update. It seems like it might not be called Super Meteor, but Thunderbird 650.Royal Enfield had Thunderbird range of cruiser motorcycles on sale for many years, before they were discontinued to be replaced by what is now called Meteor. This left RE fans wondering as to why Royal Enfield was dropping such a good brand name like Thunderbird. Well, that is probably because they had bigger plans. Literally bigger plans. Earlier, the Thunderbird range was seen in 350cc and 500cc format. If the latest leak is true, the next Thunderbird we see from Royal Enfield, will be the biggest ever, with a 650cc engine.Royal Enfield Thunder 650 Name On Official WebsiteRoyal Enfield official service page had a listing for a surprising new motorcycle, which does not currently exist. The name was – Thunderbird X 650. It is highly likely that this is the name of the upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc cruiser motorcycle, and got leaked on an official website by mistake. Royal Enfield has rectified this error by taking off the Thunderbird X 650 name from their website. But not before screenshots were saved and shared.Thunderbird X 650 might be a sportier variant of Thunderbird 650, like Thunderbird 500X was to Thunderbird 500. We have seen the upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc cruiser with alloys as well as with spoke wheels. It is possible that the version with spoke wheels is called Thunderbird 650 and the one with alloys is called Thunderbird 650X or Thunderbird X 650.Royal Enfield Thunderbird 650 – Specs & LaunchIf Royal Enfield Thunderbird 650 and Thunderbird X 650 gets launched, they will come with 650cc parallel-twin engine. This engine does duty on the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. These are the smoothest and the most vibe-free Royal Enfield we have ever tried. It makes 47 bhp of power at 7250 RPM and 52 Nm of torque at 5250 RPM. It is coupled to a 6-speed transmission and also gets oil-cooling and slipper clutch.Speaking about launch timeline – the latest test mules appear fairly production-ready. It is likely that Royal Enfield could unveil the Thunderbird 650 (if not launch), at the EICMA 2022. Being a global motorcycle brand, Royal Enfield has unveiled something special at EICMA almost every year. Will it be the Thunderbird 650 cruiser this year?Source More

Honda 300cc Scrambler Trademarked – Upcoming RE Hunter 350 Rival?

Honda is expected to take design inspirations from older CL series motorcycles in its past lineupHonda Scrambler – Render by Young MachineWe have said this before and we’ll say it again, the Indian motorcycle market doesn’t get enough good motorcycles that other markets get. Especially Japan. I don’t know what to say, but JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) always gets the good stuff. One such addition is the new CL300.Honda has a CB series for naked street motorcycles. They have a CBR series for faired track machines. And also CL series motorcycles that are scrambler motorcycles with retro appeal. In most cases, Honda makes CL series motorcycles that are based on street naked CB series of motorcycles. But the new CL300 is based on the Rebel series cruiser motorcycle.Honda 300cc ScramblerWe had heard about a possible Honda CL500 Scrambler was cooking in Honda’s labs. It was specifically rumored for JDM. To further fuel speculations, Honda trademarked the name CL500. Fast-forwarding to 2022, it hasn’t been materialized yet.CL500 was supposed to be a scrambler variant of the Rebel 500 cruiser. Design patents of CL500 further strengthened this speculation. There were also rumours of a CL250 that was supposed to take inspiration from 1960s CL250 with a twin-cylinder quarter-liter engine. But the modern CL250 was rumoured to be based on the new Rebel 300 cruiser.Honda Scrambler – Render based on leaked patentBut now, Honda has filed a trademark in the name of CL300 rendering CL250 rumours as false. CL300 will be a scrambler version of Honda’s popular cruiser Rebel 300 and is also likely to get the same chassis with slightly revised subframe. Engine and transmission are expected to be the same too. Honda has trademarked the name CL500 alongside CL300 in Thailand, New Zealand and Australia. This could mean that both scrambler motorcycles can be launched at once. Both CL300 and CL500 will share chassis and other hardware from Rebel 300 and Rebel 500 respectively. They might get taller seats with other bits to fit into the scrambler styling. Both CL300 and CL500 are expected to get conventional telescopic front suspension like their Rebel counterparts. Unlike the spoked wheels on the older CL series bikes, the newer CL300 and CL500 are likely to get alloy wheels like Rebel cruisers.Specs & LaunchHonda Rebel motorcycles are modern single-seat cruisers that strike the perfect balance between retro and modern cruisers. CL300 will get Rebel 300’s 286cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It gets a 6-speed gearbox, 41mm front telescopic forks and dual shocks at the rear. CL300 gets 16” wheels wrapped with 130/90 rubber at front and 150/80 rubber at the rear. It weighs 168 kg and has a relatively small 11-litre fuel tank.Honda Scrambler – Patent leaksCL500, however, is based on Rebel 500 which gets a larger 471cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It gets the same suspension, brakes and tyres as the smaller Rebel 300. It gets the same fuel tank too, but due to the larger engine, it weighs a respectable 185 kg.Honda hasn’t yet revealed the timeline for the new CL300 and CL500 launch. But both of them are expected to be JDM-specific at launch. They are trademarked in Thailand and Australia and might eventually get launched there too. Both Rebel 300 and Rebel 500 were rumoured to make it to India. But that has not happened yet. Honda is likely to trademark the CL300 and CL500 in India. If launched, it could be a rival to the likes of Yezdi Scrambler and upcoming Royal Enfield Hunter 350.Source More

Harry Truman’s 1955 Chrysler New Yorker for Sale: $83,500

A restored 1955 Chrysler New Yorker that was once owned by President Harry Truman could be yours, if you don’t mind buying a vehicle that doesn’t run.Restorations were done inside and out, including new exterior paint, plenty of chrome touches, and a redone (but not currently working) 331-cubic-inch Hemi V-8 engine.Truman reportedly drove this 1955 New Yorker on a 19-day road trip after leaving office. The trip was supposed to be low-key but turned into such a story that it became the subject of an entire book in 2011.If you’ve ever been interested in owning a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker but didn’t want just any version still floating around, have we got news for you. There’s an example currently on sale that’s a true rarity in the automotive world: a car that wasn’t just owned by a former president but one that was also used by Harry Truman as his personal daily driver once he left office.

    Chrysler

The presidential offering has a lot going for it, including the fact that it’s been fully restored inside and out. Other “pros” include the restored 331-cubic-inch Hemi V-8 engine and a two-speed Powerflite automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels. Well, it did, anyway. The one “con” about this car is that it does not run. For car collectors, that’s really just a list of pros.

    Chrysler

    Chrysler

The list goes on, according to the sales description at Classic Auto Mall, which is selling the vehicle. The New Yorker is painted black with chrome accents and trim decorations throughout. The seller claims the steel panels are rust-free, although there is some “slight cracking” resulting from an earlier restoration. White sidewall tires complete the classic exterior look.

    Chrysler

The interior is covered in tan leather and cloth as well as, of course, more chrome. The swinging doors are “near perfect,” and the dashboard has all of the 1950s analog dials and buttons you could ever want, including a dash-mounted shifter. Classic Auto Mall is asking $83,500 for the New Yorker, which is a presidential-size jump up from what these kinds of vehicles usually sell for. A non-running two-door hardtop 1955 New Yorker sold for $7700 on Bring a Trailer in 2020, for instance, while the most expensive New Yorker ever to sell on that auction site (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos) was a 1959 hardtop coupe example that went for $43,500, also in 2020.

Last year, presidential historian Michael Beschloss posted the above image to Twitter of Truman in his New Yorker in 1953. Beschloss said the picture showed the former president—then just five months from leaving the White House—at the wheel of the car (probably this exact same vehicle) taking part in what would end up being a 19-day road trip with his wife from Independence, Missouri, to the East Coast and back. The trip was supposed to be a romantic, under-the-radar getaway to visit friends and see the sights, all done without any Secret Service protection or media along for the ride. A 2011 book by Matthew Algeo called Harry Truman’s Excellent Adventure explains how that didn’t happen. “Truman’s plan to blend in went wonderfully awry,” the publisher said, thanks to “fellow diners, bellhops, cabbies, squealing teenagers at a Future Homemakers of America convention, and one very by-the-book Pennsylvania state trooper, [who] all unknowingly conspired to blow his cover.” Classic Auto Mall says Truman also drove this car to his daughter’s wedding.
