2008 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet Is Our BaT Pick of the Day

    • The 2008 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet combines a soft top with a 355-hp 3.8-liter flat-six and all-wheel drive.• This particular 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet includes a six-speed manual transmission.• Bidding closes on Monday, May 9.It only takes a few gray Michigan winters under your belt to appreciate the sunshine of spring. That’s why this 2008 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet that’s currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer—which, like Car and Driver, is owned by Hearst Autos—caught our attention.

This specific 997-generation 911’s allure stems from the fact it combines the model’s drop-top body style with a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. The fact this 911 is a Carrera 4S and not a lesser Carrera 4 is the cherry on top of the cake, as its 3.8-liter flat-six engine produces a total of 355 horsepower—30 horses more than the lesser Carrera 4’s 3.6-liter unit. What better way to enjoy the warm weather than in an open-top stick-shift 911 with power to spare? This car’s all-wheel-drive system means it ought to offer reasonable competence on subpar surfaces, as well. After all, sometimes it snows in April—or May—in the midwest.

    Bring a Trailer

Not that we recommend regularly taking this 911 through the white stuff—especially if you’re doing so in a state that salts its roads. With approximately 5000 miles on its odometer, this 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet is in far too fine of shape to risk either rot or rust. Although this Porsche’s gray paint may come off as a tad too tame for some, the subdued hue appeals to our modest sensibilities. Plus, we think it perfectly complements the car’s gray 19-inch wheels, black soft top, and tan interior, which includes leather-lined seats, a Bose stereo, and an in-dash navigation system, the latter of which may prove more burdensome than beneficial given the setup’s age.

    Bring a Trailer

We wager the final bid for this Porsche drop-top will top that of the last 2008 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet to cross Bring a Trailer’s virtual auction block, a 56,000-mile example equipped with the less desirable five-speed automatic transmission that sold for $41,000 late last year. Whether this 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet sells, though, ultimately depends on the seller’s reserve. Regardless, we’ll know where the proverbial hammer falls on this all-wheel-drive 911 convertible once bidding ends on Monday, May 9.

Suzuki Two Wheelers report YoY domestic sales decline in April 2022, exports improvedImage – SouRik MotoworldTwo wheeler sales in April 2022 weren’t phenomenal with results being mixed. There are expectations for 2W sales to improve in the following months backed by seasonal demand, and a spurt of sales related to the wedding season.Add to it the dead as a duck scenario in recent periods owing to Covid-19 lockdown, production stops, and general economic strain. With the market having opened up, and estimates that point to an improvement in the chip / semiconductor shortage situation, things are expected to look up.Suzuki 2W Sales April 2022YoY Suzuki 2W sales for April 2022 is a mixed bag of results. Domestic sales fell, and exports improved. Domestic sales last month were reported at 54,327 units, down from 63,879 units. Volume loss stood at 9,552 units at 14.95 percent decline. Of total sales, domestic sales accounts for three-fourth of total volumes. Exports rose to 17,660 units, up from 13,970 units. Volume growth stood at 3,690 units. Sales growth stood at 26.41 percent.Total sales fell to 71,987 units, down from 77,849 units. Volume loss stood at 5,862 units. Sales decline stood at 7.53 percent. MoM sales improved in all aspects. Domestic sales improved from 50,734 units. Volume gain stood at 3,593 units at 7.08 percent growth. Best sellers for Suzuki in India are Access, Gixxer, newly launched Avenis and Burgman to some extent.Suzuki Two Wheeler Sales April 2022Exports improved from 14,761 units. Volume gain stood at 2.9k units at about 20 percent growth. Total sales are up from 65,495 units. Volume gain stood at 6.5k units at around 10 percent growth. Indian manufacturers have in recent months seen improved performance where exports are concerned. This has helped most boost their overall sales tally in a consistent manner.Semiconductor suppliesSatoshi Uchida, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd. said, “Two-wheeler industry continues to navigate through the challenges thrown by the pandemic and semiconductor shortage. Even with these challenges, Suzuki Motorcycle India has maintained its sales momentum. In April 2022, we clocked an overall sales of 71,987 units and posted Month-on-month increase of approximately 10% over March 2022.Given the fact that this is the month of April, and the acute inconsistency in semiconductor supplies that we have been experiencing, we have started the New Financial Year in a satisfactory manner. We look forward to easing out of the supply limitations so that we can cater to the ever increasing demand for Suzuki Two-Wheelers both from the Domestic and Overseas Markets.”Sales growth expectedSuzuki 2W sales through 2022 have been consistent. Though competing in the market with a much smaller volume than the top 4 names, Suzuki has continually chipped away at the market. This has helped the manufacturer be a top volume name in the market for sellers that report less than a lakh units in sales on a monthly basis. More

U.S. Government Pledges $45 Million to Develop Better EV Batteries

The Department of Energy is launching the Electric Vehicles for American Low-Carbon Living (EVs4ALL) program, dedicated to improving battery technology. The program will provide up to $45 million for the domestic development of electric-vehicle batteries. The program aims for batteries with faster charging times, less susceptibility to extreme temperatures, and better range retention over a battery’s lifespan. The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a new venture for the advancement of electric vehicles in the U.S., creating a program to fund the development of cheaper, more efficient, and longer-lasting batteries. This follows an announcement from February when the DOE and the Department of Transportation launched a joint office to oversee the expansion of America’s electric-vehicle charging network, pledging $5 billion to states over the next five years to create a “spine” of chargers along the interstate highway system. The new battery-focused program is called EVs4ALL and will dedicate up to $45 million to fund the domestic development of advanced batteries for EVs. It’s organized through division called Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). This funding comes from ARPA-E’s fiscal year 2022 appropriation from Congress, and not from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is funding the charging network expansion. The program will take applications from groups including automakers, battery suppliers, American universities, and national laboratories.

The project has three key goals for batteries: faster charging, higher efficiency, and improved longevity. The DOE acknowledges that many Americans do not live in residences where they can easily install a home charger, and is seeking to decrease recharging times to as low as five minutes to benefit those who cannot recharge overnight at home. The department also wants batteries to be more efficient and more able to withstand extreme temperatures without losing significant amounts of energy, in a bid to boost EV adoption rates in colder regions of the country. Lastly, the department notes that two-thirds of Americans purchase used cars and aims to increase range retention over the lifespan of batteries, so that batteries won’t need to be replaced as often on older EVs and those in the used car market have access to EVs with a respectable amount of driving range. While the funding is separate from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed by President Biden last November, the new program from the Department of Energy will be crucial for Biden’s goals to have EVs make up half of all vehicle sales in 2030. The Department of Energy hopes that the funding can lead to better batteries that assuage the fears that still have many Americans wary of purchasing an EV.

Keeway Cruiser India Launch On 17th May – Royal Enfield Rival

Keeway will make its debut in India by launching the K-Lite cruiser, it will rival the likes of Royal Enfield, Jawa and YezdiKeeway Cruiser K-LiteHungarian brand Keeway will set its foot in the Indian market for the first time with the launch of K-Lite. The cruiser is set to make its debut in the country on 17 May 2022 as the company has shared a Block-Your-Date invite. Though Keeway has its origins in Hungary, it is now owned by Chinese auto giant Qianjiang Group. The latter also owns Italian motorcycle brand Benelli. In recent times, reports of QJ and Benelli developing a new set of powertrains have surfaced online. It has come to light that QJ has patented several new engines and motorcycles which are reportedly inspired by KTM’s units.Keeway Cruiser India LaunchKeeway is known for manufacturing small cruisers, scooters, naked street bikes and adventure tourers predominantly powered by a 125cc power plant. Designs of its cruisers are inspired by roadsters from Harley Davidson although the ones from the Hungarian brand are much smaller in comparison. The iconic American brand is famous all over the world for its retro-style cruisers and bobbers.Coming back to the invite, it features a small sketch of a bike’s rear section that confirms it is indeed the K-Lite cruiser. However, since it teases a twin-barrel exhaust, reports suggest that this bike will not be featuring a 125cc engine. Instead, it could be powered by a larger 500cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that performs duties on Benelli 502c.Keeway India launch teaser – New CruiserThis engine kicks out 47 bhp and 46 Nm of peak torque in Benelli. In the upcoming cruiser from Keeway, this engine could be tuned slightly differently compared to the one offered in Benelli. There is another possibility that Keeway could use a 374cc, single-cylinder motor that is seen in Benelli Imperiale 400. This motor produces 20.7 bhp and 29Nm of peak torque.DesignGetting into its design, the upcoming Keeway cruiser draws inspiration from the Keeway K-Light series and could come with similar styling, albeit with a larger 500cc parallel-twin engine. It gets a traditional low-slung cruiser stance with a single-piece seat. The motorcycle features a slim fuel tank that ends with a panel on each side followed by a short mudguard.Following Harley’s retro styling, K-Light receives a round headlight and circular turn indicators at both ends. The sketch on the teaser reveals that it gets a flat tail section with split grab rails and a rear tyre hugger. This should go with a flat handlebar and mid-set footpegs that will offer comfortable riding ergonomics.Expected Mode of ArrivalAs of now, it is unclear if the motorcycle will be made in India or assembled in the country via CKD kits. It can also be the case where the entire bike is fully imported under the CBU route since there have been no reports of Keeway setting up any production base in the country. Pricing will be key if Keeway ought to take on segment leader Royal Enfield. More
