With more battery-powered models going on sale every month, manufacturers are racing against time to bolster their lineup with new electric two-wheelers.Meanwhile, TVS has teased a possible new variant of iQube on its social media handle. The teaser features a shadowy image of the front end of the electric scooter with the caption “New Scooter Launch”. It also reveals that the scooter will be launched at 2:00 pm on May 18, 2022 – that is tomorrow.New Variant of TVS iQube TeasedThe teaser also mentions #TheStoryOf123 which should probably signify the upcoming scooter’s range. It is very possible that the prospective variant of iQube will offer a longer range, maybe 123km on a full charge. The current version of iQube offers a range of 75km on a single charge which is a very humble number by today’s standards, especially considering competition offering a higher range. This development comes at a time when brands like Bajaj, Ather and Ola have recently announced launch of new variants of their respective electric scooter offerings. While the upcoming electric scooter from Ather will be based on the 450 Series, the e-scooter from Bajaj will be based on Chetak. For reference, the current-spec Chetak and 450X offer a maximum range of 95km and 85km respectively on a single charge.New TVS iQube Electric Scooter TeaserBoth these scooters will receive updates to their powertrain specs which should include a larger battery pack. 2023 Audi RS5's New Competition Package Aims to Add Aggression

The 2023 Audi RS5 coupe and Sportback add an optional Competition package. It has a stiffer suspension, a louder exhaust, stickier tires, and different tuning for the transmission and rear differential. The Competition package will be a $16,100 option available for ordering starting in June.As BMW is getting ready to step up the game with upcoming derivatives of the M3 and M4, Audi is responding with a Competition Package available on the RS5 coupe and Sportback. It aims to make the RS5 faster, louder, and more aggressive.

While the output of the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 engine remains unchanged at 444 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, the Competition model comes with a more generous governor that increases the top speed from 174 mph to 180 mph. The “RS Sport Exhaust System Plus,” not available on the regular RS5, not only blares out its message to the public more freely, its impact is further enhanced by Audi ripping out almost 18 pounds worth of sound insulation so those inside the car can enjoy the engine note better, too. The eight-speed automatic transmission changes gears even more quickly. We wish Audi would have corrected the direction of the manual shifter gate, as Porsche did a few years ago, but alas.
There are plenty of interesting chassis modifications, too. Besides the rear differential, which is modified to make the RS5 more tail-happy, Audi says it has retuned the fixed-ratio steering, which it calls Sport Direct Steering. An adjustable coilover suspension lowers the car by 0.4 inch and can be manually adjusted to be another 0.4 inch lower, making for a total reduction of 0.8 inch compared with the standard RS5. There are also higher spring rate and stiffer stabilizers. Good news when you take on that M4 or Lexus RC F on the racetrack. Audi is offering Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires on 20-inch wheels. The RS5 Competition is enhanced with plenty of glossy black elements inside, and the exterior can be specified with a matching color called Sebring Black that features a crystal effect. Glossy carbon for exterior trim components is available, too, as is matte carbon that is only available on the Competition Package.
The package doesn’t come cheap, as it costs $16,100 on top of the RS5’s already steep starting price of $76,995 for the coupe and $77,295 for the Sportback. These $90,000-plus costs of entry put the RS5 Competition it a bit above the equivalent BMW M3 and M4 models, which both start just under $80,000 for the 503-hp Competition xDrive variants. Still, the RS5 Competition models set out to prove that the Audi Sport division, located in Neckarsulm – some 2 hours away from Ingolstadt – is moving aggressively. We look forward to comparing the Competition models with similar offerings from BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, and others.

2023 Toyota Tundra Pickup Adds SX Trim

    • The Toyota Tundra full-size pickup is coming into its first year following a major redesign.• For 2023, the Tundra adds an SX Package that consists of black and dark gray design elements.• The 2023 Tundras should reach dealerships later this summer. The Toyota Tundra pickup is just coming off a long-awaited redesign that arrived for 2022. In the year immediately following a major model change, we’d expect only minor tweaks, and that’s exactly what the Tundra has in store for 2023.We might have hoped for a production version of the TRD Desert Racer concept from last fall’s SEMA show. Alas, the headline—and only—Tundra news is the addition of a new SX Package for the SR5 trim level. Imaginatively, the SX Package darkens the exterior and interior trim as well as the wheels. Where have we seen that before? Just about everywhere, it seems.

    Toyota

It’s a formula Toyota has used many times, mostly under the Nightshade banner, as on the Tacoma, the 4Runner, the Sequoia, and the 2023 Camry. But whereas the Camry goes wild with its bronze wheels, the Tundra plays it straight with a dark gray finish for its 18-inch wheels. It also applies a black finish to the door handles, body trim, rear bumper middle section, and rear 4×4 badge. The interior accents are also black, and the Tundra door badges are deleted. The SX Package can be paired with one of four grayscale exterior colors: white, silver, gray, or black.

    Toyota

The SX Package is offered exclusively on 4×2 and 4×4 versions of the Tundra SR5, which is one up from the workingman’s SR but below the Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone. Pricing for the 2023 SR5—and for the SX Package—is not out yet, but the 2022 SR5 had a starting price of $43,150. Look for the Tundra SR5 SX to arrive with the rest of the 2023 models later this summer.

1966 Ford Bronco Is Our Bring a Trailer Auction Pick of the Day

    • A first-generation Ford Bronco in clean (but refurbished) condition should do well on the auction site Bring a Trailer. The current bid sits at $11,000, but if recent history is any guide, this car will end up selling for way more than that.• 1966 was the first model year for the Bronco, and seeing this clean and restored example reminds us just how easily old Broncos can be decked out as cute as a button.• Old Broncos are relatively common on BaT, with two of them—a 1967 model with a V-8 and an automatic transmission and a manual 1969 version—sold earlier this month for over $100,000 each. This auction ends on May 23. Classic Ford Broncos like the one shown here—a first-gen, 1966 model—are undeniably popular over at Bring a Trailer, the vehicle auction site that, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos. Scanning the results of a few recent auctions, we find a 1969 Ford Bronco with a 347-cubic-inch Stroker V-8 engine and a five-speed manual transmission sold for $106,000. Or how about a 1967 Bronco with a 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 and a six-speed automatic, which sold for $139,049? Despite those prices, not everything on BaT goes for six figures, even these days. A 1987 Ford Bronco II XLT 4×4 with a 2.9-liter V-6 and a five-speed manual sold a week ago for $24,000.

    Bring a Trailer

All three of those auctions ended this month, which hints at good results for some of the other Broncos currently listed on the site. We were particularly smitten with this clean example from the first year Ford ever sold the Bronco. As of today, this 1966 Bronco in Wimbledon White is sitting at a bargain price of $10,000, but there’s another week left before the auction ends, so there’s no chance the bidding doesn’t go up in the next seven days, even if the choke lever sticks now and then.

    Bring a Trailer

Aside from minor issues like that, this is a first-gen U15 Bronco that appears to be in tremendous shape. The contrasting white exterior with a black vinyl interior keeps the simple spirit of the original interior alive even though, as with almost any vehicle that’s over 55 years old, some work has been done. The seller says the Bronco was refurbished around 15 years ago, including a new coat of that white paint. The current owner also installed a roll bar after acquiring the Bronco in 2020. The buyer will also get a removable black bikini top for the Bronco to go along with the chrome bumpers, drum brakes and 15-inch wheels. We did say it was cute, right?

    Bring a Trailer

The small, adventurous truck uses a 170-cubic-inch inline-six that Ford put into the early Broncos and the Falcon. Here, the engine is paired with a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. A folding front windshield allows for maximum airflow into the cabin, where a two-spoke steering wheel and a metal dashboard that houses a combination gauge with a speedometer that goes up to 100 mph as well as displays showing the truck’s amperage, coolant temperature, fuel level and oil pressure. There’s also a five-digit odometer that displays 10,000 miles, but the actual cumulative mileage is unknown. The front occupants get bucket seats while the rear passengers share bench seats. There’s also some seatbelts and a center storage console with cupholders. The auction for this 1966 Ford Bronco ends Monday, May 23. The car is located in Encinitas, California.

Hero Gets Harley Davidson Back As No 1 In 1000cc+ Motorcycle Segment

Hero MotoCorp has sold 601 units of Harley Davidson motorcycles in India in FY2022 which is nearly triple the volume recorded in FY2021New Harley Davidson NightsterAmerican motorcycle giant Harley Davidson has regained leadership in the premium motorcycle segment in India which has been propelled by its partnership with Hero MotoCorp. This comes as a truly remarkable feat considering the iconic brand quit independent operation in India back in September 2020.According to data shared by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Hero MotoCorp managed to sell 601 motorcycles from the Harley Davidson brand in FY2022. The American manufacturer has nearly tripled its sales as compared to FY2021 when it managed to retail only 206 units.Harley Davidson Takes Top Spot – 1000cc+ Motorcycle SegmentOut of the 601 units sold last financial year, 531 units were above the 1,000cc mark, making Harley Davidson an overwhelming market leader in the 1,000cc and above segment. The iconic brand took control of 37 percent of market share in the last financial year for motorcycles in the 1000cc and above space. In comparison, Harley recorded a market share of 27 percent in FY21.The company’s sales were mostly driven by its latest flagship models Pan America 1250 Special and Sportster S. In process of gaining back the throne, Harley Davidson went past other premium motorcycle brands like Triumph and Kawasaki with respective yearly volumes of 336 units and 283 units recorded in FY2022.1000cc+ Motorcycle Sales FY22Other prominent Japanese brands like Suzuki and Kawasaki registered a volume of 233 units and 71 units respectively. Most of the company’s current success has been attributed to Hero MotoCorp which took over retail operations from Harley Davidson in October 2020, after the latter quit independent operations in the country. The Milwaukee brand’s Indian operation seemed to be in a state of disarray even after 11 years of existence in the market.Possible Reasons for Sales GrowthSince Hero MotoCorp took charge of operations for Harley Davidson in India, the latter has benefitted from the former’s wide distribution network across the country. Since then, Hero has also expanded Harley’s in India network to comprise 13 showrooms and 10 service centres. Further, Hero also restarted customer interaction events like HOG rallies across the nation. The last such HOG event was conducted in Mahabaleshwar between April 9-10 this year, after a two-year hiatus that saw participation from more than 540 Harley-Davidson owners across the country. The next H.O.G Rally has been scheduled to take place in Hyderabad between August 26-27. Harley Davidson has now set up a separate vertical to drive its new business of products and merchandise distribution in the country.Previously, some Harley Davidson models were locally assembled at its rented facility in Bawal, Haryana. The American brand currently retails fully imported models brought to the country via the CBU route which includes models like Sportster S, Iron 883, Forty-Eight, Fat Bob and Pan America 1250. More

2023 Toyota Camry Nightshade Joins the Bronze-Wheels Club

The 2023 Toyota Camry can be had with an updated Nightshade appearance package. The kit fits the car with bronze 19-inch wheels instead of a set of black 18-inchers.Toyota also gives Nightshade Camrys black-trimmed headlights and taillights. The list of new cars that come with bronze wheels from the factory is short, but the 2023 Toyota Camry is joining the club. While the popular family sedan has a sport-oriented TRD model that might sound like the perfect recipient of the new bronze rollers, they’re actually reserved for the updated Nightshade appearance package.

As before, models donning the Nightshade kit feature a black grille with the same mesh design as the Camry TRD as well as black exterior bits like badges, mirror caps, and a rear spoiler. For 2023, Nightshade models now also come with black-trimmed headlights and taillights to help complete the black theme. Joining the package’s available Midnight Black and White paint options is Reservoir Blue (pictured here). This newly introduced color is also offered on other models.

    Toyota

While bronze wheels on a Camry might not be everyone’s first choice—and we’d appreciate it if Toyota offered a similar set on the GR86 and Supra sports cars—the Nightshade’s multispoke 19-inch wheels are larger and more distinctive than the black 18-inch rims they replace. Now we just need to convince Toyota to revive the gold exterior trim that used to grace Camrys in the ’90s.

    Toyota

Last year, the Camry Nightshade Edition became available with the sedan’s hybrid powertrain. That remains true for 2023, and the kit continues to be offered on SE models with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and either front- or all-wheel drive. Toyota hasn’t said if the updated Nightshade package will still be a $700 option. However, the company says it will announce pricing for the 2023 Camry lineup later this summer.
