Updates have been provided regularly, including 3 new variants (Dynamic, Performance and Superior) introduced in 2024. BYD has just revealed the facelift model, which is expected to be launched in many markets soon, including India.
BYD Atto 3 facelift debuts – What’s new?
Based on exterior images released by BYD, it appears that the facelifted Atto 3 is aiming for a more refined, polished appearance. While the lighting setup remains unchanged, the air intakes and bumper section have undergone a major refresh. Atto 3 facelift also gets a camera at the front, which is part of the advanced ADAS kit. Side profile has been enhanced with the addition of sportier alloy wheels.
    BYD Atto 3 Facelift
One can also notice a new exterior colour with the facelift, which looks quite subtle and mature. In India, the current model is offered with colour options of Boulder Grey, Ski White, Parkour Red and Surf Blue. Another noticeable change is the partially blacked-out D-pillars. This treatment balances out the distinctive rippled finish used on the D pillars. Other features such as circular wheel arches, body cladding and conventional body-coloured door handles have been carried forward.
At the rear, facelifted Atto 3 gets a sportier roof spoiler that has integrated dual brake lights. Tail lamps have been refreshed with Chinese knot pattern elements, reflecting traditional Chinese decorative art. Atto 3 facelift is also expected to get a refreshed cabin with multiple new features. However, interiors are yet to be revealed.

    BYD Atto 3 Facelift
    Same powertrain options
Atto 3 facelift is expected to continue with the existing powertrain options. Across global markets, BYD Atto 3 is offered with battery pack (LFP) options of 49.9 kWh and 60.5 kWh. In India, Atto 3 is available with only the larger 60.5 kWh battery pack. The single electric motor mounted on the front axle generates 150 kW (204 PS) and 310 Nm of torque.
As per ARAI standards, range is 521 km with the larger battery pack. NEDC driving range is 480 km. Variants with the smaller battery pack, available internationally, have a CLTC range of 430 km. Maruti Suzuki Targets 50% Market Share, #1 EV Manufacturer Status

Maruti Suzuki eVitara India DebutBy FY2030, Maruti Suzuki has plans to introduce 4 BEV models, which will contribute around 15% to the company’s overall sales
Suzuki has announced its new mid-term management plan for FY2025 – FY2030, which highlights the strategy for various global markets including India. Sales volume target (FY2030) is set at 4.2 million units, whereas operating profit target is 700 billion yen (Rs 40,644 crore). India will continue to be the biggest contributor to the company’s global sales and growth.
Maruti’s 5-year business strategy for India
Due to rising competition, Maruti’s market share has remained below 50% for some time. Maruti now intends to reclaim that position by FY2030. The company seems confident even when competition in the EV segment is set to intensify in the coming years. Earlier, Maruti had plans to introduce 6 new BEV models in India by the end of this decade. But the mid-term plan reveals that only 4 new BEV models will be introduced in India by FY2030.

Maruti Suzuki Targets 2025 – 50% Market Share
Maruti’s first EV offering in India will be the eVitara. The other three models could include an entry-level EV that takes on rivals like Tata Tiago EV. An electric MPV, codenamed YMC, is also under development. Maruti’s product plan reveals that ICE models (petrol + ethanol-blended + CNG) will contribute around 60% of the overall sales by FY2030. Contribution of BEVs will be 15%, whereas HEVs will generate around 25% of sales.
Suzuki is aiming for much higher electrification in other markets, for example, 45% BEV sales in Europe. HEVs are targeted to contribute 55% in Europe. For its home market Japan, Suzuki is aiming for 20% BEV and 80% HEV sales. Four BEV models are planned for Europe and six for Japan. Despite increasing competition, Maruti Suzuki aims to become the Number 1 in production, exports and sales of BEVs. It implies that India will emerge as a major production and export hub for BEVs.
Maruti Suzuki Targets 2025 – 50% Market Share
    Sales / profit targets
For FY2030, the sales volume target is set at 4.2 million units. India will continue to be the biggest market, with a targeted contribution of 2.54 million units. That’s more than 60% of the brand’s global sales. To meet rising demand across domestic and export markets, Maruti will be expanding supply chain and production capacity (new Kharkhoda Plant and new Gujarat Plant). As and when the need arises, production capacity in India will be gradually increased to 4 million units per year.
    Mega investments planned
To achieve its goals for FY2025 to FY2030, Suzuki has announced a capital investment of 2,000 billion yen (Rs 1.16 lakh crore). Out of this, 1,200 billion yen (Rs 69,676 crore) is exclusively for the Indian market. The funds will be used for various purposes such as development of new models and expansion of production capacity.
Maruti Suzuki Targets 50% Market Share
Funds will also be utilized for carbon neutrality goals, quality measures, efficiency measures, sales points, test equipment, etc. Suzuki has also allocated 2,000 billion yen for R&D purposes. R&D initiatives will focus on tasks like technology development towards energy minimization, future technology development, new business opportunities and infrastructure investment. More

eCar Import Duty To Reduce From 110% to 15% – Govt to Notify New EV Policy

Image – Supercars Of IndiaThe Indian government is set to notify its new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, which aims to lower import duties and attract global players like Tesla. The policy is expected to mandate a minimum turnover of Rs 2,500 crore by the second year and require an investment of Rs 4,150 crore from interested manufacturers.
    Lower Duties to Attract Investment
The proposed policy will allow companies to set up assembly operations in existing factories but will exclude past investments and land or building costs from the required investment amount. Manufacturers meeting the criteria will qualify for a 15% import duty—a significant reduction from the current 110% tariff, reports Economic Times.
    Past investments will not count
Companies will have 120 days to apply, with the policy allowing annual imports of up to 8,000 premium EVs (priced above $35,000) at reduced duties. Approved applicants must establish manufacturing facilities within three years and achieve 25% local value addition, which must rise to 50% within five years.
    Progressive Turnover Targets
The policy also outlines progressive turnover milestones, requiring:
    – Rs 2,500 crore by the second year– Rs 5,000 crore by the fourth year– Rs 7,500 crore by the fifth year
Approval letters could be issued by July-August, paving the way for imported EVs to enter India soon after. Tesla is widely seen as a key beneficiary of this policy. Reports suggest that Tesla is planning to enter India in April 2025, with an affordable EV priced at Rs 21-22 lakh.
The company has reportedly chosen Mumbai and Delhi as its initial showroom locations. Tesla Inc. will be shipping a few thousand cars to a port near Mumbai in the coming months, reports Bloomberg. The US automaker plans to begin sales in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore around the third quarter of 2025.
    Other Automakers Show Interest
Hyundai and Volkswagen have also expressed interest in the policy during government discussions, but their investment plans remain uncertain. With the government fast-tracking EV adoption, this policy could open doors for global EV players, boost local manufacturing, and make premium EVs more accessible to Indian buyers.
