Bajaj, KTM Confirm New High End Electric Motorcycles – Pulsar, Duke ?

Launch of Bajaj, KTM electric motorcycles will take couple of years at least, as the plan is still in initial stages2023 KTM Duke Electric – RenderElectric two-wheeler segment is expected to witness significant growth in coming years. While bulk of sales will comprise affordable, entry-level electric two-wheelers, there will be plenty of scope for lifestyle products as well. It’s the latter segment that Bajaj Auto and KTM are now looking to target.According to Executive Director of Bajaj Rakesh Sharma, the company is currently working with KTM to identify an appropriate platform for the new electric motorcycles. KTM does have an EV portfolio in international markets, but it’s limited to electric cycles and off-road e-bikes. It’s apparent that Bajaj and KTM will have to develop a new platform from scratch, which is likely to take some time.Bajaj, KTM electric motorcyclesWorking together since 2007 on multiple projects, Bajaj and KTM will further solidify their partnership by foraying into high-end electric motorcycle segment. Bajaj currently manufactures KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles, as part of that partnership. These are sold in domestic market and also exported to overseas locations.Along with premium electric motorcycles, Bajaj is also likely to develop affordable EV products in collaboration with KTM. As part of its EV push, Bajaj has built a new manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. This is operational and caters exclusively to manufacturing electric two-wheelers. Chetak electric scooters have started to roll out of this facility.KTM Duke Electric Motorcycle Launch PlansBajaj, KTM high-end electric motorcycles and other upcoming EVs will be manufactured at this new facility. It is a state-of-the-art facility and can be used to manufacture a wide range of electric two-wheelers. It has peak manufacturing capacity of 5 lakh units per annum. The facility also has dedicated design and R&D centres. It has been developed at an investment of around Rs 750 crore.Bajaj Auto has filed trademarks for multiple new names recently. These include Dynamo, Tecnica, Technik, Pulsar Elan, Pulsar Eleganza, etc. It is likely that Bajaj could use either of these names for their upcoming electric motorcycle. KTM has already confirmed working on a Duke based electric motorcycle.Chetak expansion plansMost of the leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers currently have a limited number of products on offer. This applies to OEMs like Ampere, Ola, Ather, Revolt Motors and TVS. Bajaj currently offers only Chetak electric scooter that has been registering consistent sales every month. Sales could have been higher, but it hasn’t been possible due to global shortage of auto parts. Till date, pre-bookings for Chetak have been more than 16,000.Bajaj will be looking to boost sales in coming months, as supply situation improves globally. The company is also working to make Chetak available across the country. As of now, Chetak is available in 27 cities. There are plans to increase this number to 100 cities in the near future. Bajaj is also working to launch multiple new electric two-wheelers over the next two years. The company has already formed a new entity named Chetak Technology to focus exclusively on development of EVs. With more products on offer, Bajaj will be able to target a larger segment of users. 2022 Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV Spied – New Details Revealed

XUV400 will be longer than XUV300 and will have similar dimensions and proportions as SsangYong Tivoli2022 Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV SpiedMahindra has firmly established itself as a UV maker and not a carmaker in India. Mahindra has been slowly phasing out everything that ain’t an SUV or a MUV. KUV100 100 and Marazzo remain, but they hardly sell, as seen in our sales breakup. In June 2022 Marazzo sold just 124 units and KUV100 sold 0. Ouch! After setting foot in UV segment, Mahindra now wants to do the same thing with EV segment. Right now, Tata Motors is the king of electric car segment and Mahindra wants to eat into its share. In this light, Mahindra has bet big on EVs and will unveil five new global electric SUVs under Born Electric series on August 15.But they are global electric SUVs and won’t come cheap. So, for mainstream market where Nexon EV has a stronghold, Mahindra will launch the XUV400 electric. We have seen spy shots of XUV400 electric in the factory before. But now, it is found testing on road, credit to YouTube channel Auto Comparo.Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUVThe main highlight of XUV400 electric is that it is not a chopped SsangYong Tivoli to fit under 4 meters. SsangYong Tivoli was chopped up to create XUV300 to get the B-segment tax benefits. But for EVs, that doesn’t hold at all. S0, Mahindra has chosen to retain Tivoli’s original length which will be around 4.2m.[embedded content][embedded content]This size increment makes sure that XUV400’s boot space doesn’t suck like XUV300’s. Also, its proportions will be nicer. The test mule is heavily camouflaged, but we can immediately recognise the XUV300 Electric concept that Mahindra showcased at 2020 Auto Expo. It has the same shape for front headlights and boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. The futuristic LED bulbs in concept will be replaced to accommodate practical bulbs.XUV400 Electric retains the closed-off grille and lower bumper design from its concept though. Production-spec model has a small air dam at the bottom which was closed off in the concept. Interior, however, was similar to the outgoing XUV300 and we expect Mahindra to give enough wow factors like Adreno-X infotainment and more.Powertrain & LaunchMahindra has also stated that XUV400 Electric will source high-energy-dense NMC cells from LG Chem. NMC cells are superior to the cylindrical LFP cells found on Nexon EV and EV Max. With this move, XUV300 Electric might be more powerful and have a longer range than Tata’s EVs.2022 Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV SpiedIn effect, we can expect around 150 bhp of power and over 400 km of range from a single charge. This will be enough to compete against the current highest-selling EVs, Tata Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max. Mahindra hasn’t yet announced a timeline for the launch of XUV400 Electric. But we can expect it to launch by the end of this year or Q1 2023. When launched, it will have all the features XUV300 has and then more.Currently, Nexon EV Prime prices start from Rs. 14.99 and get a 30.2 kWh battery and promise a claimed range of 312 km. Whereas, Nexon EV Max prices start from Rs. 18.34 lakh (both prices ex-sh) and get 40.5 kWh and promise a claimed range of 437 km. It will be interesting to see where Mahindra XUV400 Electric falls and how it will impact current electric car sales in India. More

Shark Week: 1987 Porsche 928S4 Is Our Bring a Trailer Auction Pick of the Day

    • This 1987 Porsche 928S4 is currently up for sale on the Bring a Trailer website, reminding us of when the grand touring coupe broke the 300-hp barrier.• With approximately 68,000 miles on its odometer and a recent timing belt replacement, this 928S4 ought to have no trouble reliably scratching your grand touring itch.• Bidding closes on Tuesday, August 2.

What better way is there to celebrate Shark Week than to ogle a clean example of Porsche’s affectionately named “land shark,” the 928? Well, technically, this 1987 model year iteration of the German automaker’s V-8 sports car bears the name 928S4. Between now and Tuesday, August 2, you can bid on it at Bring a Trailer—which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos.

    Bring a Trailer

Porsche added the S suffix to the front-engine model’s name in 1983 to mark the switchover from a 219-hp 4.5-liter V-8 to a larger 234-hp 4.6-liter unit. An even larger, 288-hp 5.0-liter V-8 replaced the 4.6-liter for 1985, marking the third major powertrain update to the model, which still bore the 928S designation. Two model years later, the 928 underwent its biggest change yet, which brought a myriad of exterior updates and a revised 5.0-liter engine with 316 horsepower. To denote this major update—the fourth for the 928—Porsche affixed a “4” to the four-seat sports coupe’s model designation; henceforth the 928S became the 928S4 for 1987. Besides being the most powerful iteration of the 928 (well, at least until the arrival of the 928GTS in the early 1990s), the 928S4 was also the most aerodynamic. With a coefficient of drag of 0.34, the 928S4 significantly improved on the 0.42 Cd of the original 1978 928. Credit the likes of the car’s updated bodywork and the addition of a massive rear wing, which replaced the small lip spoiler that spanned the rear hatch and quarter panels of prior 928s.

    Bring a Trailer

Yes, the 928S4’s design alterations lose some of the earlier 1978–1986 models’ character, but the newer car’s technical advantages arguably more than makeup for this loss. This is part of the reason why this ’87 928S4 is so appealing to us. Though we wish this Cassis Red Metallic Porsche were equipped with a five-speed manual and the original radio faceplate, we’re willing to settle on a 928S4 with the available four-speed automatic gearbox (the car’s Kenwood faceplate, however, is something we’d ditch immediately in favor of an OE unit). Credit the 5.0-liter engine’s 317 pound-feet of torque that’s available at 3000 rpm. With so much low-end grunt, the 928S4’s V-8 pairs surprisingly well with the slushbox. A three-pedal 928S4 may prove the more engaging tool on twisting tarmac, but we wager this grand tourer is an amenable tool for bombing down the interstate at barely legal speeds regardless of its gearbox.

    Bring a Trailer

This specific 928S4 ought to have no trouble engaging in such exploits, as its timing belt and various key cooling bits were serviced in April of last year. That’s not the only documented work done to this approximately 68,000-mile Porsche, as the seller includes the original window sticker and service records that date back to December 1987. With bidding closing on August 2, there’s plenty of time to put in a bid on this no-reserve land shark. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Shark Week.

For 2023, the Supra 3.0 starts at $53,595 and the 3.0 Premium starts at $56,745, both representing a $610 increase over last year, but those prices apply regardless of whether you choose the eight-speed automatic or the newly available stick-shift.The manual comes only with the 382-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, as the base 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four remains automatic-only. The base Supra 2.0 costs the same $44,635 as it did last year.

There’s also a new trim level to commemorate the addition of the manual to the lineup. The 2023 Supra A91-MT edition (pictured), which is limited to 500 units, will cost $59,440, a $2695 upcharge over the Premium. For that sum, you get a brown leather interior, an Alcantara shift knob, red brake calipers, red badging, red strut tower braces, and 19-inch wheels. The manual also gets different calibration for the traction control and stability control and a rearranged center console, and all 2023 Supra models get different suspension tuning and a new blue color. We don’t yet have EPA fuel-economy ratings for the manual Supra. Toyota says it will go on sale later this year. We’re eager to get behind the wheel to see how the three-pedal version of this sports car compares in terms of driving experience and performance.

But it doesn’t make as much power as a Pulsar N160 with 15.68 bhp and it definitely can’t match the outright 17.39 bhp of TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. It does make a little more power when compared to Honda X-Blade’s 13.67 bhp, though. But Xtreme 160R has a trump card and that is its 139 kg weight which is the lightest in this segment.2022 Hero Xtreme 160R vs Bajaj Pulsar N160 vs TVS Apache 1602022 Hero Xtreme 160R is powered by the same 163 cc, single-cylinder engine with an SOHC setup.
