Yamaha XMax 125 Scooter With New Hybrid Tech Debuts – 2 Electric Motors, 1 ICE

Yamaha SPHEV Tech Unveiled With XMAX 125 ScooterWhile hybrid scooters with two engines are already available, Yamaha’s three-engine SPHEV setup takes the possibilities to a whole new level
Japanese OEMs are known for experimenting with new technology platforms with the goal of improving overall user experience. A relevant example is this new SPHEV (Series Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle) powertrain from Yamaha that utilizes two electric motors with an ICE engine. Let’s see the details of Yamaha’s SPHEV platform and how it can benefit users.
Yamaha SPHEV Tech Unveiled – How it works?
For initial testing and evaluation, Yamaha has installed the SPHEV powertrain on the XMax 125cc scooter. Yamaha plans to use this powertrain with multiple mid-class scooters and expand it to incorporate in large capacity scooters, motorcycles and even cruisers. However, details have not been provided.
    Yamaha XMAX 125 Hybrid
Talking about the SPHEV setup, there is a 125cc petrol engine and two electric motors. One of the electric motors is installed directly on the wheel drive. It functions as the main drive of the SPHEV powertrain. The second electric motor is mounted on the crankshaft of the ICE engine. It primarily works to generate electricity, but can also supply power to drive the wheels.
    Yamaha XMAX 125 Hybrid Prototype
This will depend on the throttle action chosen by the user. The ICE engine can drive the wheels and is also used to generate electricity via the electric motor. Other core components of the SPHEV system include a battery, an inverter and a vehicle control unit (VCU).
    Yamaha XMAX 125 Hybrid
    Driving modes
With the two electric motors and the ICE engine, multiple drive modes will be possible. For example, the scooter can move forward, driven only by the primary drive motor. In automatic mode, the primary drive motor will be used during the starting phase of the scooter.
When running purely on electric power, the scooter will ensure noiseless operations. This will be useful in specific situations such as riding the scooter in residential areas or other locations with sound limits. As the scooter starts to accelerate and needs more power, the ICE engine will be activated automatically. The ICE engine will continue to drive the scooter forward at medium and high speeds.
    Yamaha XMAX 125 Hybrid
When the throttle response is increased, users will be able to access the Boost drive mode. This will ensure IC engine and electric motor or motors work in tandem, unlocking all performance for quick accelrations. The boost mode will be quite useful in situations such as overtaking manoeuvres.

    Launch prospects
Yamaha SPHEV tech unveiled, is still in concept stage, details about the electric motor and battery have not been published. The SPHEV is currently in R&D phase and will likely need more refinements before it is launched commercially. It is possible that Yamaha could showcase the SPHEV concept at the upcoming EICMA 2025. It remains to be seen whether Yamaha’s SPHEV is merely a technology demonstration or truly fulfils the real needs of enthusiasts in practical applications. More

Maruti eVitara Crash Test Images Revealed – 5 Star NCAP Ratings?

    Maruti eVitara Crash Test Images
India’s largest car manufacturer by volume, Maruti Suzuki, is on the verge of launching its maiden electric SUV soon. Called eVitara, this C Segment electric SUV debuted officially at Auto Expo 2025 and is expected to launch in the coming months. Now, images of Maruti Suzuki eVitara crash testing have been revealed. Let’s take a look.
    Maruti eVitara Crash Test
In the recent times, Maruti Suzuki has demonstrated that it is taking vehicular safety seriously. Maruti’s Swift was the first vehicle in company’s history to offer 6 airbags as standard fitment and Dzire became the first vehicle to be awarded 5 Stars in Global NCAP’s crash test assessments based on their latest protocols.
    Maruti eVitara Crash Test Images
Now, eVitara crash test images have been revealed. From the looks of it, Maruti Suzuki seems to be showcasing internal crash test footage and not crash tests done by external agencies like Global NCAP, Bharat NCAP and Euro NCAP. Similar to Fronx’s internal crash test video that Maruti Suzuki revealed.
Notably, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was subjected to Bharat NCAP crash tests and images of the same leaked on the internet in July 2024. Results of which are still not made public by Bharat NCAP. Sticking to eVitara, we can expect excellent crash safety proposition considering it is a global vehicle.
    Maruti eVitara Crash Test Images
    Specs & Equipment
eVitara is based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT-e electric born platform and features a flat floor for maximum room for occupants. This platform is made of over 50% high tensile steel and for excellent strength and rigidity. These elements promise optimum safety for occupants and battery pack.
The company boasts innovative chassis attributes like shock absorbing mounting structure and multi load paths for effective distribution of impact forces. Production of eVitara is exclusively tasked to Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant where a badge engineered Toyota counterpart named Urban Cruiser EV will also be produced.
    Maruti eVitara Crash Test Images
Maruti Suzuki is planning four new electric cars for India and eVitara will be the first of these. It comes with two battery pack options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh, and Maruti is offering single motor FWD and dual motor AWD versions, which will be a major draw for eVitara. Peak system output can go till 181 bhp and 300 Nm, while range can go till 500 km, depending on powertrain options. More

Triumph Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer Testing Continues Before Launch

Triumph Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer TestingBajaj and Triumph are stepping up their game in the premium single-cylinder motorcycle segment. After launching the Speed 400, Scrambler 400X and Speed T4, Triumph is now working on Scrambler T4 (speculated name) and a Thruxton 400 (speculated name) and the testing continues in full swing as suggested by recent spy shots.
    Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer Testing
With the launch of Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, Triumph opened a new chapter in terms of pricing and product planning. Based on the new 400cc platform, Triumph has already launched three motorcycles and is on the verge of developing two more motorcycles. Production of these motorcycles is handled by Bajaj Auto.
Triumph Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer Styling
Speculated to be called Thruxton 400, Triumph’s latest Cafe Racer motorcycle brings style and substance to this segment. There is a possibility of this being called Speed 400 RR, building on the popularity of Speed 400. This motorcycle has been spied globally multiple times and is the 2nd recorded instance of testing in India.
As seen in the video by The Fat Biker, Triumph Thruxton 400 is a Cafe Racer style motorcycle with a striking semi fairing setup. Other Cafe Racer cues like low-set clip-on handlebars and bar-end mirrors are present. Other than that, we have retro design cues like circular headlight, circular ORVMs, an analogue tachometer and more.
Triumph Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer Styling
Interestingly, there seems to be an X insignia LED signature in the headlights. Along with that, we have LED tail lights and turn indicators, black USD telescopic front forks and a single seat setup with a single-piece rear grab rail. Rider’s triangle looks slightly more committed than Speed 400 owing to the low-set clip-on handlebars.
    What to expect?
Triumph Thruxton 400 is probably rocking the same main frame, sub frame and swingarm as Speed 400. Suspension components include USD front forks and a rear mono-shock, while braking is handled by single discs at both ends with dual channel ABS. Tyres are likely to be slightly fatter than the 150-section rear tyre on Speed 400. Royal Enfield Guerrilla does offer 160-section tyres, if you’re wondering.
    [embedded content]
These spy shots from The Fat Biker suggest that Triumph Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer will get the same semi-digital instrument cluster as Speed 400. Where powertrains are concerned, it will be powered by the same 398.15cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled DOHC 4V/cyl engine with around 40 bhp and 38 Nm, mated to a slipper clutch and a 6-speed gearbox. Launch is likely around festive season. More

Tesla Sales Decline 45% In Europe – Despite BEV Sales Growing By 37%

Tesla Model 3One of the leading electric car manufacturers, Tesla, has established a firm presence in many major markets like North America, Europe, UK, China and Japan. The company has been witnessing major setbacks with respect to sales in Europe, EFTA region (Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland) and UK. Let’s take a closer look.
Tesla Car Sales Decline 45% In Europe
Tesla used to be a popular electric mobility solutions provider here. However, in recent times, Tesla has been witnessing a major sales decline in this region. The numbers are quite severe as Tesla sales halved YoY with 50.3% drop in Europe and a 45.2% drop in Europe + UK + EFTA regions in January 2025, as opposed to sales performance in January 2024.
This is a peculiar development as the demand for BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) is holding strong. In fact, BEV sales in Europe soared by 37% YoY. While electric cars, as a whole, are still popular and booming, European car buyers seem to be distancing themselves from Tesla brand, singularly.
    Tesla Model 3
The downfall of Tesla sales in Europe is a combination of factors, but controversies revolving around Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, might be a major reason. His infamous salute, his support for Germany’s AfD Party and his political views, his support for a jailed activist in UK are some of the controversies which stirred debates and damaged his public image.
Repercussions of these activities, launch anticipation of new and updated Tesla Y and inventory shortages are some of the reasons attributed to Tesla’s sales decline in January 2025. As per ACEA, Tesla sold 9,945 units in January 2025, down from 18,161 units from January 2024. In major European nations like France, Tesla sales fell by 63% YoY and in Germany, it was 59.5%.
    Chinese EV sales Soar
The drop in Tesla sales in Europe, UK and EFTA region is not for lack of demand for EVs or BEVs. BEV sales grew by 37% YoY across Europe, demonstrating that there are no negative sentiments for electric cars. ACEA revealed 1,24,341 electric cars were sold in Europe and 1,66,065 units in Europe + EFTA + UK with a 16.7% market share and 11.9% YoY growth.
    Tesla Model 3
If we take SAIC Motors’ sales performance in this region in January 2025, the Chinese EV giant sold 22,994 units. New car sales in Europe saw a 2.6% decline YoY overall. The market share of Petrol and Diesel cars (combined) declined from 48.7% to 39.4%, followed by self-charging hybrid vehicles at 34.9%.
