      Hero Electric topped two wheeler sales charts while Ather was the only electric two wheeler maker to post a YoY de-growthOla Electric ScooterElectric 2W sales increased 231.06 percent YoY while it was also a 5.79 percent MoM growth. Sales in the past month stood at 44,259 units, up from 13,369 units sold in July 2022. This was a 30,890 unit volume growth. MoM sales on the other hand increased from 41,837 units sold in June 2022, a volume growth of 2,422 units. Each of the manufacturers on this list have posted a YoY growth with the exception of Ather. Ampere, Ola, Revolt and Ather posted lower MoM sales.Hero Electric was in a top spot on this list in July 2022. Sales stood at 8,786 units, a 108.05 percent YoY growth from 4,223 units sold in July 2021. The company commands a 19.85 percent share. Sales in June 2022 had stood at 6,504 units, relating to a 35.09 percent MoM de-growth while share percentage had been at 15.55 percent.Top 10 Electric 2W Sales July 2022Okinawa, at No. 2 had its electric two wheeler sales at 8,093 units in July 2022, up 213.68 percent, from 2,580 units sold in July 2021. This was a 5,513 unit volume growth with the company commanding an 18.29 percent share. Sales in June 2022 had stood at 6,944 units, a 16.55 percent MoM growth.Ampere at No. 3 saw its sales at 6,312 units in July 2022, up 860.73 percent from 657 units sold in July 2021. Share percent was at 14.26 in the past month down from 15.63 percent held in June 2022 when sales had been at 6,541 units, a 3.50 percent MoM de-growth. Ampere Electric has seen steady increase in sales and its retail sales in H1 2022 stood at 33,785 units.Top 10 Electric Two Wheelers July 2022 Vs July 2021 (YoY)Next in line was TVS Motor with electric two wheeler sales at 4,244 units in July 2022, up 554.94 percent from 648 units sold in July 2021. TVS Motor in June 2022 had sales of 1,946 units with a 118.09 percent MoM growth.Ola, Bajaj, Revolt, AtherOla Electric had two wheeler sales at 3,802 units in July 2022 with an 8.70 percent share. This was a MoM de-growth of 34.56 percent when compared to 5,886 units sold in June 2022 when share percentage was at 14.07. Ola gears up for launch of Move OS 3 update for the S1 Pro electric scooter which is scheduled to be launched by the Diwali season. It will include a host of hi-tech features, such as hill hold control, hyper charging, proximity unlock, etc.Bajaj Auto electric two wheeler sales increased YoY and MoM to 2,418 units in July 2022. It was a 232.14 percent YoY growth and a 34.48 percent MoM growth from 728 units sold in July 2021 and 1,798 units sold in June 2022. YoY growth was also reported by Revolt with sales of 2,316 units in the past month, up 630.60 percent over 317 units sold in July 2021. MoM sales however, dipped 4.46 percent from 2,424 units sold in June 2022.Top 10 Electric Two Wheelers July 2022 Vs June 2022 (MoM)Ather has seen YoY and MoM de-growth of 28.90 percent and 66.60 percent respectively. We say this because we also have other retro classic motorcycles in 350cc spectrum itself. But they have never made a dent like Royal Enfield motorcycles have. For example, we have Honda H’ness CB350 which sold 3,308 units in May 2022 while in the same month, Classic 350 sold 29,959 units.Even when we look at 500cc+ motorcycles sales charts, that whole segment is mostly driven by Royal Enfield 650 twins with 84.72% market share in June 2022. While every other big bike combined in India only accounts for just 15%. Such is the power of nostalgia Royal Enfield evokes. Now the British brand is making that nostalgia a little more accessible with the launch of Hunter 350.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 – SpecsHunter 350 will sit at the bottom of Royal Enfield’s portfolio in terms of pricing and also, weight. Hunter 350 is a modern interpretation of a retro bike and all design elements and finishes reflect just that. It gets all the retro bike credentials like round headlights, round taillights, round mirrors, fork gaiters, offset speedo like TVS Ronin, curvy and swoopy fuel tank and more.Adding modern vibes is a blacked-out finish at the engine bay and wheels. Fuel tank and side body panels get contrasting colours though which complement the blacked-out engine bay beautifully. But personally, I’m not too hot for its large ‘Royal’ branding on one side and ‘Enfield’ branding on the other side of the 13-litre fuel tank.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 SpecsBut fret not. This style is specific to one of Metro variant’s colour schemes. We say this because we have spotted another Metro variant that has a chick white fuel tank with not-too-shouty graphics. Royal Enfield is clearly going towards ‘urban roadster’ kinda appeal, but with a set of block pattern tyres, it can also come off as a scrambler-style bike too.Siddhartha Lal recently revealed a sneak peek at Metro variants which had a tripper screen. This will be offered as an option, though. We haven’t yet seen a Retro variant to understand how stripped-down it would look when compared to Metro. Both variants will be revealed at launch on 7th August.Features & PricingRetro gets spoked wheels, drum brake at the back, single-channel ABS, older switchgear, basic speedo, halogen taillights and oval-shaped turn indicators. Both variants get 17” wheels, but Metro will get fatter rubber. Retro weighs 177 kg, while Metro weighs 181 kg and gets alloy wheels, disc brakes (300 mm / 270 mm), dual-channel ABS, LED tail lamp, round turn indicators and a modern switch gear from Meteor. Both get around 150 mm of ground clearance and a friendly 800 mm seat height too.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 SpecsBoth Retro and Metro get 41mm telescopic forks up front and twin shockers at the rear. Retro gets Factory Black and Factory Silver colour options. Metro gets Dapper White and Dapper Ash. And Dapper Grey is exclusive to MIY personalization platform. Royal Enfield Hunter 350 also gets the Metro Rebel variant with Rebel Black, Rebel Blue and Rebel Red (MIY) colour schemes.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 ColoursBoth Retro and Metro get the same J-series 349cc engine making 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm and is mated to a 5-speed gearbox with 114 km/h top speed and 36.2 km/l fuel efficiency. The Japanese brand has confirmed that it will bring back the iconic and instantly recognizable RX100 moniker. This way, Yamaha has played strings of enthusiasts’ hearts. But we also have not-so-good news from the same company. Which is in the form of a price hike for August 2022.Yamaha Prices August 2022 – MotorcyclesYamaha has announced a price hike for August 2022. This price hike affects all models. But not every model gets the same increment. It varies from model to model and within models, variants too. Let’s go through these new developments.The price hike affects both motorcycles and scooters. Right off the bat, Yamaha FZ 25 gets the most price hike. It amounts to Rs. 2,300 for both FZ 25 and FZS 25 with a 1.59% and 1.54% increment over the previous pricing. Now, FZ 25 prices start from Rs. 1,46,900. All variants of FZ like FZ S and FZ S Deluxe get the same Rs. 1,000 increment with 0.89%, 0.83% and 0.81% increment over previous pricing respectively. Now, FZ prices start from Rs. 1,13,700.Yamaha Motorcycle Prices Aug 2022Second highest price hike is split between FZ X, MT 15 and R15 V4. When we say MT 15, all the colour variants get the same increment. Also, all the variants of R15 V4 like Metallic Red, Dark Knight, Racing Blue and even R15 M and World Grand Prix 60th Edition also get the same price hike. That amounts to Rs. 1,500.Last motorcycle on this list, R15 S gets a Rs. 1,000 price increment with just 0.62% increment which is second lowest in this entire list. MT 15 prices now start from Rs. 1,63,400 and R 15 V4 from Rs. 1,78,900.Yamaha Prices August 2022 – ScootersJust like motorcycles, Yamaha scooters also get a price hike for the month of August 2022. It is to be noted that drum brake variants of both Yamaha’s scooters, Fascino and Ray ZR do not get any sort of price hikes at all. Thus, it is likely that this new price hike with respect to rising input costs, seems to be primarily related to braking hardware and especially disc brakes. Apart from just braking hardware, other components will also have contributed, though.Yamaha Scooter Prices Aug 2022Interestingly, the most expensive scooter from Yamaha in India, Aerox 155 maxi-scooter, is the one that gets the least price hike of just Rs. 500. This amounts to just 0.36% increment. Completing the list of Yamaha’s price hike, we have the Fascino and Ray ZR 125cc scooters that received Rs. 1,400 price hikes each. This amounts to just around 1.65% increment over outgoing prices.Disc variants of Fascino now start from Rs. 85,030 and Ray ZR from Rs. 85,330. Manufacturers try to absorb most of the rising input costs and very little will be ported over to the customers to bear. All major manufacturers showed off a year-on-year (YoY) and month-on-month (MoM) growth in sales. Exports, on the other hand, stood in the red. It was Hero MotoCorp that dominated the domestic sale list while Bajaj Auto led in terms of exportsTaking leading 6 major two wheeler makers into account, sales in domestic markets stood at 13,07,132 units in July 2022. This was an 8.87 percent YoY growth over 12,00,621 units sold in July 2021 relating to a 1,06,511 unit volume growth. MoM sales were up 5.40 percent over 12,40,137 units sold in June 2022.Two Wheeler Sales July 2022Hero MotoCorp commanded the domestic sales list with 4,30,684 units sold in the past month, up 034 percent compared to 4,29,208 units sold in July 2021 with a 32.95 percent share. MoM sales dipped 7.02 percent as against 4,63,201 units sold in June 2022. Best sellers include the Splendor, Passion, Glamour, Deluxe, Pleasure and Maestro. The company has also expanded its lineup with the new Super Splendor 125 Canvas Black Edition in 2 variants to bring in added sales.Next in line was Honda 2W with sales of 4,02,701 units, up 18.40 percent from 3,40,133 units sold in July 2021. It was also a MoM growth of 13.26 percent over 3,56,560 units sold in June 2022. Share percent increased from 28.67 percent held in June 2022 to 30.81 percent in the past month. Honda Dio Sports Limited Edition has just been launched in two colour schemes with a starting price of Rs. 68,317.Two Wheeler Sales July 2022TVS Motor has reported a YoY and MoM growth in domestic sales to 2,01,842 units in July 2022. This was a 26,773 unit volume growth from 1,75,169 units sold in July 2021 while in June 2022, the company recorded domestic sales at 1,93,090 units. Bajaj Auto (1,64,384 units) and Suzuki (60,589 units) each posted YoY and MoM growth in July 2022 while Royal Enfield saw an 18.42 percent YoY growth to 46,529 units in July 2022 but sales dipped MoM by 7.43 percent from 50,265 units sold in June 2022.Two Wheeler Exports July 2022Export of two wheelers, which stood at 3,28,588 units in July 2022 dipped 6.04 percent YoY and 10.64 percent MoM. It was Bajaj Auto that headed this list with 1,50,670 units shipped in July 2022, down 13.58 percent from 1,74,337 units sold in July 2021. It was also a MoM de-growth of 21.06 percent from 1,90,865 units shipped in June 2022.Bajaj Auto was the only two wheeler maker to record exports above the 1 lakh unit mark. TVS exports increased 11.60 percent YoY to 97,716 units while MoM exports fell 2.89 percent from 1,00,625 units sold in June 2022.Two Wheeler Exports July 2022Exports of Honda fell 9.82 percent YoY but grew by 44.56 percent MoM to 40,942 units in July 2022. It was followed by Hero MotoCorp with YoY and MoM de-growth at 14,896 units from 25,190 units sold in July 2021 and 21,657 units sold in June 2022. Suzuki and Royal Enfield exports were at 15,338 units and 9,026 units in July 2022 respectively.Total Two Wheeler Sales July 2022Taking total two wheeler sales (domestic and exports) into account, it was a YoY and MoM growth. Sales stood at 16,35,720 units in July 2022, up 5.51 percent over 15,50,349 units sold in July 2021. It was also a growth of 1.73 percent when compared to 16,07,837 units sold in June 2022.Two Wheeler Total July 2022Hero MotoCorp topped the list despite a YoY de-growth. Sales stood at 4,45,580 units, down 1.94 percent from 4,54,398 units sold in July 2021. It was also an 8.10 percent MoM de-growth from 4,84,867 units sold in June 2022. Honda two wheeler sales ended with YoY and MoM growth of 15.07 percent and 15.57 percent respectively with 4,43,643 units sold in the past month.Bajaj total sales were at 3,15,054 units in July 2022, relating to a YoY de-growth of 4.69 percent while MoM sales dipped 0.28 percent. TVS (2,99,658 units) in July 2022 saw a YoY and MoM growth in total sales while Suzuki sales were at 76,230 units and Royal Enfield sold 55,555 units in the past month. More

      Nissan Will End Production of the Maxima Next Year

      Nissan will end production of the Maxima sedan in mid-2023.The current model arrived for 2015 and is the eighth generation of the sedan.Nissan suggests that an upcoming electric model could adopt the Maxima name in the future.After more than four decades and eight generations, the Nissan Maxima will end its run next year. Nissan confirmed to C/D that it will end production of the sedan in mid-2023. Sales have fallen recently, as Nissan only moved 3753 units of the Maxima in the first half of 2022, compared with 78,610 Altimas sold over the same time period.

      Another Maxima may still be in the cards, however, as Nissan’s official statement says that the company is “prioritizing electric vehicles” and advises us to “stay tuned for future Nissan Maxima news.” We think this means that the upcoming Nissan EV sedan, slated to arrive in 2025, will wear the Maxima name. It will be built in Mississippi alongside an Infiniti sedan, and teasers show a futuristic face similar to the Ariya crossover’s, plus a curved roofline.

      Still, the Maximas of yore as we best remember them—as sporty sedans with V-6 engines and available manual transmissions—are no more. As a three-time 10Best winner (both the second- and third-generation Maxima SE models were awarded), the Maxima has long been one of our favorite Nissans. It even graced the cover of Car and Driver, for the June 1994 issue.

      The current generation was our top-ranked large sedan for some time, but it has become more irrelevant as it has aged. Its segment, too, has dwindled, with Ford dropping the Taurus and Hyundai and Kia also discontinuing the Azera and Cadenza. Toyota persists, as it is replacing the Avalon with the Crown for 2023, and Dodge and Chrysler still sell the aging Charger and 300 sedans.We’ll see what the future holds for a possible Maxima EV, as we may soon hear more news about this upcoming model that could debut within the next few years.

      2023 Volkswagen ID.4's $38,790 Base Price Is $3735 Less Than Last Year

      The 2023 VW ID.4 adds a new base model that starts at $38,790, which is thousands less than last year.The newly introduced ID.4 Standard has a smaller 62.0-kWh battery that VW estimates has a range of 208 miles; other ID.4s feature an 82.0-kWh battery and 255–275 miles of range, per VW.The 2023 model year also brings subtle styling changes, a 12.0-inch touchscreen, and quicker fast-charging speeds.The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV is now more accessible to budget-minded buyers thanks to a new base model with a smaller battery. The new Standard trim level starts at $38,790, which is $3735 less than last year’s entry-level ID.4 Pro. For 2023, that price gap rises to $5000, since the Pro trim now starts at $43,790.

      Of course, saving money by picking the ID.4 Standard means sacrificing range, as Volkswagen estimates its 62.0-kWh battery pack will only provide 208 miles per charge (its EPA rating is pending). Compare that with the larger 82.0-kWh battery on all the other ID.4 models that VW predicts will offer between 255 and 275 miles of range. The larger battery also benefits from an increased 170-kW fast-charging capability. The company doesn’t provide estimated charging times for the smaller battery, but it does make Plug and Charge standard, which simplifies public charging with its automated payment system.
      For 2023, the entire ID.4 lineup receives subtle styling changes that include gloss-black bits on the front bumper as well as new wheel and paint options. Every Pro S now has an illuminated VW logo and light line on its nose as well as a light-up logo on its rump. Inside, there’s a newly standard 12.0-inch touchscreen and USB-C charging. The Standard trim is also said to be dressier than previous Pros, with stitching on its dash and nicer seating materials than the old cloth upholstery. Stepping up to S models also ups the luxe thanks to two new faux-leather options and different stitching on the door panels. There’s also a redesigned center console and heated rear seats are a new option on the ID.4 S Plus.
      Every model still benefits from a host of standard driver-assistance tech, which now includes VW’s park-assist feature. Plus, the EV SUV’s standard automated emergency braking now includes cyclist detection. The 2023 model year also sees ID.4 production move to the U.S. at the VW’s Chattanooga factory. The new models are expected to reach dealerships this fall.

      New TVS Scooter Patent Leaks – Powered By Hydrogen

TVS was in the spotlight recently because of the launch of their new motorcycle Ronin. They are back in the news, this time for a patent leak.TVS is developing a new prototype scooter that is powered by hydrogen. You might have heard of hydrogen fuel-cell-powered cars like Toyota Mirai. Or other hydrogen-powered concept vehicles like Suzuki Crosscage and Honda’s unnamed prototype. This is probably the first time a mainstream two wheeler brand is trying something like this.Yamaha, along with Toyota has designed a 100% hydrogen-powered V8 engine. But the concept of hydrogen fuel-cell on a modest scooter and aimed at masses, was unheard of. But TVS is implementing it on the iQube scooter with easy assembly and maintenance in mind. As good as EVs are, charging time is still a fly in the ointment. Hence, manufacturers have been slowly experimenting with substitutes. Honda is even working on flex-fuel technology too for budget vehicles.TVS iQube HydrogenIn the patent drawings of TVS iQube hydrogen, we can see the basic layout of the entire powertrain, except for the motor. We can see an electric battery at the floorboard which suggests that TVS might be considering hydrogen fuel cells as a range extender to an already existing EV platform.TVS iQube HydrogenSpeaking of hydrogen, we can see two canisters holding this compressed gas at the front, held in place by the front downtube. Fuel cells are housed under the seat, where a battery would be in a conventional EV. We can also see other components required to regulate gaseous fuel like pressure regulator, flow-meter and shut-off valve, all taking their respective place near swingarm.Hydrogen fuel cells are the party piece of this powertrain. It generates electricity when hydrogen is pumped into Anode and gets split by reacting with the catalyst to form electrons and protons. These electrons flow towards Cathode by completing the electrical circuit. Hence creating electric current to power the motor, and propel the vehicle. It doesn’t end there. At cathode, hydrogen and oxygen combine to form the by-product, water.Implications Of Hydrogen In IndiaHydrogen fuel cells promise zero carbon footprint like EVs. But negate the charging time and infrastructure that is currently plaguing EVs. Normal hydro-carbon fuel stations and existing fuel transportation systems can be readily used or slightly modified to accommodate hydrogen fuel supply and workflow. Looking at the upsides, most countries are considering hydrogen to be better than EVs.But it is not all sunshine, though. Right now, hydrogen is vastly created by splitting water molecules with very high energy inputs. We are wasting a lot of electricity to make hydrogen and then we are using it to generate significantly less electricity to run the vehicle. The secondary losses are a lot more which EVs are not associated with. And coming to the “green” part, electricity to split water molecules comes from coal mostly and hydrogen is distributed by transportation burning diesel fuel. Hydrogen has potential, but we have to find an economical and renewable way to produce it and supply it.Source More
