    Lamborghini's New V-12 Powertrain Is a 1001-HP Three-Motor Plug-in Hybrid

    Lamborghini announces a new, hybridized 6.5-liter V-12 powertrain that makes up to 1001 horsepower.It features three electric motors, two up front and one integrated to a new, Lamborghini-designed, eight-speed double-clutch transmission.The full car will be shown—and its name revealed—at the end of the month.We can’t show you what the replacement for the Lamborghini Aventador looks like yet, or even tell you its name—the company refers to it exclusively by the internal code, LB744. But we can share details on its extraordinary new plug-in-hybrid powertrain.The good news is the continued existence of a naturally aspirated V-12 engine, one that has been core to the appeal of the company’s more expensive models since its foundation. The new 6.5-liter L545 engine is effectively a heavy development of the one that powered the Aventador, but with more power, more revs, less weight, and a compression ratio raised to 12.6:1. Lamborghini says the new engine’s mass of 481 pounds makes it 37 pounds lighter than the Aventador’s V-12, while its power output has increased to 814 horsepower delivered at a searing 9250 rpm—with the limiter not calling time until 9500 rpm. It also makes a peak of 535 pound-feet of torque at 6750 rpm. But while the Aventador’s V-12 sent power forward to a single-clutch gearbox positioned ahead of it, the new engine has been flipped by 180 degrees, with power going through a new, Lamborghini-designed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission mounted transversely behind it.LamborghiniBut this V-12 is only one part of the new powertrain, being assisted by no fewer than three electric motors. At the front, a pair of axial-flux motors power each wheel separately, allowing torque vectoring. There is no mechanical link from the engine to the front axle; the LB744’s all-wheel-drive system is always part electric.At the back, a third motor is incorporated into the transmission, which due to a clever clutching mechanism can switch between acting as starter motor and generator or adding power to the rear axle. Each motor can deliver up to 148 horsepower, although the combined peak is always less than three times that due to the current flow supported by the battery. The maximum combined output is quoted as an impressively potent 1001 horsepower—slightly more than the Ferrari SF90 Stradale. Latest LamborghinisElectrical charge is stored in a compact 3.8-kWh battery pack that sits in what would previously have been considered the transmission tunnel within the cabin, allowing a low seating position on either side of it. Lamborghini hasn’t released a weight claim for the battery, but for reference the claimed capacity is far less than the corresponding figures for the Ferrari 296GTB and SF90, and also the McLaren Artura, suggesting the Lambo’s should be lighter and provide fewer electric miles. We do have weight figures for the front motors—41 pounds—and the double-clutch transmission, which is 425 pounds including the weight of the integral electric motor. LamborghiniWhen depleted, the battery can be recharged from a socket, via regenerative braking using the front motors, or with the V-12 acting as a generator. The latter is claimed to completely replenish the pack in just six minutes. Therefore, it should be possible to be quickly brought back to full strength when driven on track. Lamborghini also says the new DCT gearbox will support a “continuous downshifting” function, holding the left paddle while decelerating progressively and selecting the lowest possible gear as speed falls. Lamborghini promises to release more technical details of the new car before the finished version is formally unveiled at the end of the month. We’ll keep you posted.     2024 Hyundai Kona Electric Battery, Range Specs Revealed

    Unlike the Ioniq range of EVs based on e-GMP platform, updated Hyundai Kona is underpinned by a modified B-segment platform of its predecessor2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
    Hyundai and Kia are currently on the offensive where EVs are concerned. The duo are actively pushing ahead in EV space. With EV juggernauts like Tesla and BYD to beat, Hyundai and Kia have launched a slew of popular EVs. Ioniq 5 and Kia EV-6 are stark examples of this. Design of the new Kona EV was released late last year. Now, Hyundai has revealed official battery specs and range details of New Hyundai Kona Electric.
    Just like its predecessor, Hyundai has not made Kona EV-only. At least for now. In this sense, Kona will spawn a ICE model and a strong hybrid model alongside an EV-only model. Underpinning this project, is a modified version of Hyundai’s B-segment platform enabling mounts for engine and also hybrid components. How better is it as opposed to its predecessor? Let’s take a look.

    New Hyundai Kona Electric Specs
    New Gen Kona Electric comes with two battery pack options. The base variant gets a 48.4 kWh battery pack claiming to deliver a range of 342 kms on full charge. The top variant comes with a larger 65.4 kWh battery pack that delivers a drive range of 490 kms. Fast charging option is available. The bigger battery pack takes only 41 minutes to charge from 10-80% via fast charger.
    Both battery pack options with new Kona get a front mounted electric motor. In the smaller battery pack option, the electric motor is rated to deliver 154 hp while with the larger battery pack you get 214 hp. Torque output has been kept at 255 Nm for both variants.

    Speaking of India, we currently get a 39.2 kWh battery pack option with a claimed range of 452 km. If next gen Hyundai Kona EV is launched in India, it should boast a better range than outgoing model. Just like current Kona, the new one also comes with Vehicle-to-load capability. This means that you will be able to charge internal as well as external devices like home appliances using Kona EV.
    Design & Features
    Hyundai has come up with a radical and geometric design for new Kona. With many of Hyundai’s designs, upgrades usually don’t feel organic and cohesive in capturing the essence of its predecessor. That is not the case with new Hyundai Kona. The parametric and pixel design philosophies combine to form a handsome-looking front.
    Headlight and brake light elements are housed in separate pods, while LED light bars take the centre stage at both ends. They accentuate the width of new Kona. Speaking of, new gen Hyundai Kona is 5.5” (139.7mm) longer, 0.9” (22.86mm) wider and has a 2.3” (58.42mm) longer wheelbase over its predecessor.

    The sharp lines and creases at the sides give it an athletic appeal. At the same time, flared wheel arches and undercuts behind its fenders add substantial muscle. There are smart-looking 5-spoke design alloy wheels and near the C-pillar, shoulder-line and roof-line merge to neatly form an X-insignia.
    On the inside, Hyundai has used sustainable materials. The main attraction here are its dual 12.3” digital displays and a 12” HUD. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, NFC-enabled smartphone and smartwatch access digital key, ambient lighting, flat reclining electric front seats, Hyundai SmartSense ADAS tech, remote parking among many, are highlight features.     Leaked documents reveal that new entry-level Harley-Davidson bikes for China share key hardware and use engines manufactured by QJ MotorNew Harley Davidson 350cc MotorcycleHarley-Davidson has a new strategy in place, wherein it is collaborating with regional partners to create entirely new products in middleweight segment. An example is China, where the American motorcycle manufacturer has been working with Qianjiang Motors. This partnership will spawn several new products, the first of which will be X350 and X500 motorcycles.A teaser released recently indicates that either one or both of these bikes will launch on March 10, 2023. Ahead of their launch, some of the key specifications of these bikes have leaked online.Harley Davidson X350 and X500 launch on 10th March 2023Harley-Davidson X350 – 350cc motorcycleHarley-Davidson X350 and X500 have a retro theme, as is evident with the round headlamp and rear-view mirrors and circular instrument pod. Apart from that, each of these bikes have quite a few unique features. Overall, X350 has a more modern character with sharp fuel tank, step-up seat design and extended tail section.In terms of performance, Harley-Davidson X350 will be powered by a 353cc motor. It will deliver 35-36 PS of max power. Earlier, the bike was proposed to be powered by the liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that was in use with Benelli 302S. However, QJ Motor had later introduced an updated 353cc version of this engine.New Harley Davidson 350cc MotorcycleOther details revealed include the bike’s weight at 195 kg. Claimed top speed is 89 mph, which is around 143 kmph. Hardware specs include USD front forks, monoshock rear suspension, alloy wheels and disc brakes at both ends. This engine is already in use with bikes like Benelli TRK 502 ADV, Leoncino 500 scrambler and 502C cruiser. Harley-Davidson X500 will have kerb weight of 207 kg, making it a bit lighter than respective Benelli bikes. X500 top speed is claimed at 99 mph or approx. 159 kmph.If launched in India, Harley-Davidson X350 and X500 will primarily rival Royal Enfield bikes. In 350cc segment, Harley-Davidson X350 will compete against the likes of Classic 350, Meteor 350 and Hunter 350. On the other hand, Harley-Davidson X500 will take on the 650 twins – Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.New Harley Davidson 500cc MotorcycleLaunch of these new bikes in India has not been confirmed yet. Harley-Davidson has a JV in India with Hero MotoCorp. Here too, the plan is to aggressively target the middleweight segment that is currently dominated by Royal Enfield.Backed by Hero’s affordable manufacturing, it is possible that Harley-Davidson may be able to achieve a competitive price point for its first small-capacity bike for Indian market.     2024 Hyundai Kona Details Revealed, Interior Is Significantly Improved

    The new 2024 Hyundai Kona is larger and more luxurious than its predecessor.Its spectacular “seamless horizon” front light bar will be standard. Gasoline and EV versions will reach the U.S. by the end of the year.Owners of the previous-generation Hyundai Kona only had two substantive complaints according to the company’s vice president of design Sangyup Lee. That was a lack of space in the subcompact SUV’s rear seats and also its limited cargo volume. You will be unsurprised that both these areas have been addressed with the new version.This is a gentle evolution of a successful formula rather than a radical transformation. The new 2024 Kona is up to 6.9 inches longer than the outgoing version and sits on a wheelbase that has been stretched by 2.4 inches. Inside it features a new design of slimmed-down front seats which are claimed to offer both the same level of comfort and support as the old car but, being 30 percent slimmer, also improve rear legroom. Having sat in an early version of the 2024 car we can confirm it does feel much roomier in back. On Hyundai’s numbers trunk capacity has risen from 13 cubic feet to 17 cubic feet with the rear seats in place.More on the New KonaIntergalactic New FaceThe most obvious design difference for the new generation is the arrival of a single full-width light bar at the front of the car—Hyundai calls this the “seamless horizon”—and a similar red taillight graphic at the rear. Sangyup Lee said that this new element was the single most complex feature on the car. It certainly gives the front a very futuristic look, one we feel we’ve seen on a character in at least one Star Wars movie. The actual headlights are much smaller units lower down and mounted on each side of the bumper. As before, both gas and electric Kona versions will be offered. Other parts of the world will also get a hybrid, but we’re told that there is no chance of that version making it to the United States. The most obvious visual distinction between the EV and the regular combustion version will be that the gas cars get gray body cladding while the Kona Electric’s is body colored. That rule isn’t hard and fast, though: the range-topping N Line, which is a trim level rather than a scintillating performance derivative, will also get body-color protection as well as a cute (but faintly preposterous) two-piece rear spoiler and a more sizable opening in its front bumper.Nicer InteriorInterior design also feels substantially upgraded over the outgoing car. The new Kona gets dual 12.3-inch display screens, the one ahead of the driver displaying instrumentation and the central touchscreen handling infotainment functions. Despite that, Hyundai hasn’t followed the herd into digital-only control architecture, with the Kona keeping both a row of function shortcut buttons and physical climate controls below these. We’re told the company isn’t planning to replace conventional buttons in any of its forthcoming models, either, which is a plus in our book. The Kona Electric also benefits from a flat floor in the cabin, although the combustion versions continue to have a compact tunnel.We don’t have finalized U.S. specifications yet, but anticipate lots of optional equipment in the pricier versions. The European-spec cars we saw had power front seats with both heating and cooling plus a 360-degree camera system. All versions will support over-the-air software updates, and Hyundai is also planning to allow it to be locked and unlocked through the NFC Near Field Communication function on smartphones and smart watches. All versions of the new Kona get a compact gearshift selector on the side of the steering column, with steering wheel paddles to allow gear selection in combustion versions, and varying regeneration levels in the EV.Kona was keener to talk about the new Kona Electric than its gasoline sisters. That’s because the combustion versions are going to be substantially similar to the outgoing version, with the choice of a basic 2.0-liter engine and a more powerful turbocharged 1.6-liter above this. Both front-drive and all-wheel drive will continue to be offered, but we will need to wait until close to the car’s formal unveiling at the New York auto show in April for finalized performance figures.Details on the Kona EVWe do have more numbers for the Kona Electric, though. In some markets Hyundai plans to offer two different versions of the EV, but we’re told to expect that only the more potent version will reach the U.S. with its 65.4-kWh battery pack and a single front motor that produces 214 horsepower. In Europe, Hyundai is targeting a WLTP range of more than 305 miles—that would likely translate to an EPA rating of somewhere closer to 260 miles (the current car has a slightly smaller battery and is rated at 258 miles on the EPA’s test). The Electric’s charging port is at the front and, although it won’t be able to replenish as quickly as the ultra-fast 800-volt architecture of the Ioniq 5, Hyundai says it will be possible to go from 10 percent to 80 percent charge in 41 minutes at the highest rate. That equates to a peak rate of around 77 kW from a DC charger. The Kona Electric will also support “vehicle-to-load” charging, basically allowing it to serve as a giant power pack.While there are no immediate plans to directly replace the Kona N, Hyundai admits that it may produce a more powerful EV version with all-wheel drive from a second motor at the rear. The company’s engineers admit that this car would seem ideally suited to carry N branding. Here’s hoping that happens, as the prospect of a 430-hp Kona is an intriguing one.The new Kona will be launched in the U.S. in the third quarter of the year, with pricing details to follow.This content is imported from poll.     2023 Tesla Model S and Model X Receive Significant Price Cuts

    Tesla has again issued significant markdowns, this time cutting prices of the 2023 Model S and ’23 Model X by about $5000 and $10,000, respectively. The Model X now starts at $101,380, and the Model S starts at $91,380; Plaid versions of each now start at $111,380. Earlier this year, Tesla slashed U.S. prices for the Model Y SUV—the Model S and X received markdowns too.If yesterday you bought either a Tesla Model S or Model X at full price, you might not be too happy to read this: Tesla has once again introduced significant price cuts.     2023 Honda Pilot Base Price Drops under $40,000 Thanks to LX Trim

    Honda is adding an LX trim to the 2023 Pilot lineup, dropping the base price significantly.The LX starts at $37,295, while the one-level up Sport costs just over $40,000.We expect to see the 2023 Pilot LX start to reach Honda dealerships soon.The new 2023 Honda Pilot is joining the CR-V and Civic in reintroducing the base LX trim. The addition of this trim level, which is now listed on Honda’s media site but has not yet begun reaching dealerships, drops the starting price by $3200, bringing the three-row SUV in under $40,000.For $37,295, the 2023 Pilot LX features the same mechanical package as the rest of the lineup, with standard front-wheel drive, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and a 285-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine that now features a DOHC setup. All-wheel drive is a $2100 option for the LX.The base Pilot does do without many features from the higher trims, as it comes standard with a smaller 7.0-inch touchscreen and does not have as many driver-assist features as the one-step-up $40,495 Pilot Sport. It also has dual-zone automatic climate control rather than tri-zone, cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, and only comes in silver, black or white.     River Electric Scooter Vs Rivals – Ather, Ola, Chetak, iQube, Vida

All of them had pretty much similar specs and features with variations in numbers and design language. There was nothing radical about any of these new entrants. Bengaluru-based EV startup River intends to change that with the launch of their new scooter called Indie.Pitted as an “SUV of scooters”, River Indie vs rivals should be an interesting comparo. Considering the fact that Indie gets a plethora of utilitarian options over its rivals should give it an edge. Even though Indie is all about utility, convenience and experience, specs and numbers on paper matter too. Let’s take a look at how it fares against its main rivals.River Indie Vs RivalsRiver Indie Vs RivalsBeing its maiden product, Indie is River’s flagship as well. Pitting it against rivals like Ola S1 Pro, Vida V1 Pro, Ather 450X, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak, lends interesting perspectives. Given extra utility options Indie gets, it weighs the most at 135 kg and is nowhere close to 111.6 kg of Ather 450X with aluminium space frame chassis.Most scooters including River Indie are underpinned by a tubular steel frame underneath and suspended by dual telescopic front forks. Only Ola S1 lineup gets a single-sided front fork, lending it a clean aesthetic from right side. At the rear, Indie and Chetak get twin shock absorbers, while the rest get mono-shock.River Electric ScooterMost dimensions are in a grey area where Chetak, V1 Pro and Indie as they’re not yet revealed. At 1,365mm, River Indie has the longest wheelbase and highest ground clearance at 165mm, matching S1 Pro. Disc brakes are 240mm front and 200mm rear with Indie and are segment benchmarks. iQube, V1 Pro and Chetak don’t offer rear disc brakes.Owing to its “SUV of scooters” approach, River Indie offers 14” wheels at both ends, while rivals top out at 12”. Where storage is concerned, there is no beating River Indie. It offers 43L under-seat storage and a 12L glove box. Add to it, provision of two soft panniers and a top box, and Indie massacres its rivals in the storage department. The closest rival is S1 Pro with 36L under-seat storage.Specs & FeaturesUntil Simple One is launched with segment-leading torque, Ola is likely to retain performance crown. Except for the hub motor on TVS iQube and swingarm-mounted motor on V1 Pro, the rest get a mid-mounted motor layout. 8.5 kW peak power of S1 Pro is unrivaled and Indie trails behind it with 6.7 kW. S1 Pro makes the most torque at 58 Nm, followed by 33 Nm rated torque of iQube and 26 Nm of both Indie and 450X.River Electric Scooter Vs RivalsAt 5.1 kWh, battery capacity is humongous with ST variant (not yet live) of TVS iQube. Ola and River offer 4 kWh and Vida offers 3.94 kWh battery. Ather 450X Gen 3 has 3.7 kWh and Chetak has the lowest capacity of 3 kWh (2.88 usable). TVS bundles a 1.5 kW optional charger with ST variant and it has the lowest charging time of 2h 30m for 0-80% despite having the largest battery. Top speed is 116 km/h with S1 Pro, followed by 90 km/h on River and Ather, 82 km/h on iQube ST, 80 km/h on Vida and 63 km/h on Chetak. Ather offers 5 riding modes, while Ola and Vida offer 4, River offers 3 and TVS and Bajaj offer 2 each. Except for the claimed range of 90 km with Chetak, we have included real-world range for the rest.S1 Pro leads the true range with 170 km, followed by 145 km on iQube ST, 120 km on Indie, 105 km of 450X Gen 3 and the rest sub 100 km. All scooters on this list get LED lighting all around and DRLs too. Except for River and Bajaj, rest offer a 7” touchscreen. Despite not being a touchscreen, River offers a modern unit, while Bajaj needs a lot of catching up.River Electric Scooter Vs RivalsWarranty & PricingWarranty plays a key role in ownership too. Despite disappointing in almost every other aspect, Chetak takes the cake in warranty with 7 year / 70,000 km coverage. Ather’s recently announced warranty coverage boasts 5 year / 60,000 km, followed by River with 5 year / 50,000 km coverage. Rest of the contenders offer 3-year warranty, but TVS covers for 50,000, Ola for 40,000 km and Vida for 30,000.Prices for iQube ST are not revealed. But the S variant costs Rs. 1,20,183 making it the least expensive offering in this comparo. It is followed by River Indie at Rs. 1,25,000 and Ola S1 Pro at 1,29,000. Chetak prices start from Rs 1.21 lakh and go till Rs 1.52 lakh, followed by Ather 450X at 1,58,462 and lastly, the most expensive offering, Vida V1 Pro at 1,59,000. That should make it clear what we’re dealing with here.Starting with a Phantom Extended as the base, the Syntopia has a bespoke scent—yes, its own special smell—and a one-off paint color.The Syntopia is already spoken for and will make its way to someone’s vehicle collection in May.If you have to ask, you can’t afford it. While this might apply to many Rolls-Royce vehicles, we don’t think we’re exaggerating, because this is the first Rolls with its bespoke scent (developed with input from the client who ordered the car), and the paint is a one-off color, Liquid Noir. The scent enters the cabin through a patented scent-releasing mechanism in the headrests.Rolls-RoyceRolls-RoyceInspired by haute couture, or the “art of fashion,” in van Herpen’s words, the Syntopia takes its name from van Herpen’s 2018 collection. For her part, van Herpen said she wanted the car to create the feeling in the driver or rider that they were “being overwhelmed by the forces of nature.”Rolls-RoyceThe Syntopia’s exterior is a purply, swirly take that elevates the elegant Phantom’s design. The company said the iridescent paint has blue, magenta, and gold undertones. The Liquid Noir color starts with a solid black paint covered by a color-shifting overlay and a clear-coat outer layer with integrated pigment. Developing this new paint took Rolls several months, requiring more than 3000 hours for testing and validation.Rolls-RoyceThe interior uses pieces and designs made by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective in Goodwood and van Herpen’s team members in Amsterdam. The front seats are covered in Magic Grey leather, and there’s a silk-blend fabric on the rear seats. The Weaving Water Starlight Headliner uses one piece of leather shaped into a 3D design thanks to woven nylon fabric that looks like a silver “liquid metal” texture. There are also 162 “delicate petals made of glass organza” and almost 1000 sparkling fiber-optic “stars” inside. Rolls said that installing the headliner alone took nearly 700 collective hours of work, including the time its designers took to select this particular sheet of “flawless leather” from more than 1000 hides.
