Honda EV Details To Be Revealed This Month – Activa Electric Scooter?

Entry of established brands is crucial for widespread adoption of electric two-wheelers in the countryImage for illustration purpose.Electric two-wheelers surely look promising, but issues persist such as high acquisition cost and underdeveloped charging infrastructure. EV fires are further eroding consumer confidence in these vehicles. Another limiting factor is the absence of leading brands such as Honda, Hero MotoCorp, Yamaha, Suzuki and Royal Enfield. EV sales could be much higher if top brands launch their respective products. As of now, TVS and Bajaj are the only mainstream manufacturers to offer electric two-wheelers.Honda Electric Scooter launch in April 2023 – Will it be Activa ElectricHonda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has announced that it will start its innings here with an electric scooter in April 2023. It is not yet clear if this will be the much awaited Activa electric, or something else. More details will be revealed on 29th March. It is to note that Honda already sells a range of electric two-wheelers in international markets. The same set of products could be homologated and launched in India.New Honda Electric Scooter – Design patented in IndiaAccording to Atsushi Ogata, president MD & CEO at HMSI, the company will have a diversified portfolio of EVs in India. Honda will have three categories of electric two-wheelers in India, based primarily on their top speed. One of the focus areas will be Electric Bike (EB), which will have a top speed of 25 kmph. Second category of Honda EVs will be Electric Moped (EM), which will have a top speed of around 50 kmph.Third category will be Electric Vehicle (EV), which will have a top speed of more than 50 kmph. The first EB category vehicles will not require any registration or driving license. EMs and EVs will have to comply with the standard set of rules, as applicable for petrol powered two-wheelers. Ogata said that the launch of the electric scooter will be followed by the launch of a high-speed EV.Globally, Honda has plans to introduce 10 new electric two-wheelers by 2025. The company will also be launching flex-fuel two-wheelers in international markets. Some of these EVs and flex-fuel vehicles could be introduced in India as well. An electric version of top selling Activa is one of the compelling possibilities for Indian market.Primary focus remains on ICE segmentWhile Honda has chalked out aggressive plans for EV space, Ogata said that the company’s primary focus will continue to be petrol-powered two-wheelers. It’s understandable, as ICE-based two-wheeler market is still huge and will remain so for several more years.A complete shift to EVs will necessitate changes to the entire supply chain and production ecosystem, which will take time to implement. Consumer psychology is another limiting factor, as there’s usually hesitation to accept something new.Things are expected to improve for EVs in the future, with availability of more advanced, affordable and long lasting batteries. A number of new battery technologies are currently being evaluated. In case of a major breakthrough, issues like range anxiety, high battery price, EV fires, etc. will become a thing of the past. Triumph-Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle Render – RE Himalayan 450 Rival

Triumph-Bajaj will be launching a range of mid-size capacity motorcycles – These could be unveiled later this year in November at EICMATriumph-Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle RenderPopularized by Royal Enfield, the 350cc space has witnessed multiple launches from the likes of Honda, Jawa and Yezdi. Joining this club soon will be two new motorcycles from Triumph-Bajaj. There will be a street roadster and its scrambler version, which will rival Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Yezdi Scrambler / Hunter 350, respectively.Triumph-Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle RenderBoth these versions have been spied in near-production ready guise. Considering that adventure motorcycles are in demand, it is likely that the platform would spawn into an ADV motorcycle in the future. Combining the bits from the existing scrambler and roadster spy shots, rendering artist Pratyush Rout gives us a glimpse as to what could be Triumph-Bajaj adventure motorcycle.Triumph-Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle RenderJust like Bajaj-KTM partnership, Triumph new motorcycles will be manufactured by Bajaj. Design and development of these new motorcycles has been undertaken by Triumph’s UK R&D division. While the exact capacity of these bikes is not known, dimensions of the engine and exhaust suggest the likelihood of something close to 350cc-450cc. In an earlier statement, Triumph had said that its new single-cylinder bikes for India will be positioned in 250cc – 650cc range.Triumph Bajaj motorcycle featuresRetro theme is evident, with features such as round headlamp and rear view mirrors and teardrop-shaped fuel tank. Test mules have been spotted with a circular instrument dial, integrated with a squarish section towards the right. It is likely to be a semi-digital instrument console that will complement the bike’s retro styling.Triumph-Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle RenderEngine section is tightly packed and body panelling is bare minimum, which ensures a sinewy profile for the motorcycle. Other key features include single-piece seat, blacked-out engine and exhaust, crash guard, thick grab rail, upswept exhaust and sleek tail section. Riding ergonomics will be fairly comfortable, suitable for both city commutes and highway cruising. While the platform will be the same, scrambler version will be distinguishable with features such as windscreen and knuckle guards. Exhaust design, wheel size and choice of rubber could also be different for the scrambler. There are unlikely to be any engine tweaks for the scrambler version.Which Engine Will Power The Triumph Bajaj Mid-Size MotorcyclesAs compared to rivals in 350cc segment, Triumph-Bajaj motorcycles will have USD front forks. At rear, the bikes will have monoshock suspension. Test mules appear to be riding on 17-inch wheels at both ends, shod with relatively wider tyre at rear. Braking duties are performed by disc brakes at both ends. Dual-channel ABS will be offered as standard. Connectivity features are likely for Triumph-Bajaj sub-500cc motorcycles.Triumph-Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle RenderWhile Triumph-Bajaj new bikes seem to have potential, these are unlikely to pose any major threat to Royal Enfield. Pricing is a key factor that will determine sales volumes of these motorcycles. As of now, it’s difficult for most players to match the aggressive pricing of Royal Enfield. Triumph-Bajaj new sub-500cc motorcycles are expected to be launched at around Rs 2 lakh.In future, another challenger to Royal Enfield could come in the form of Vincent Motorcycles. The trademark for this name was recently acquired by Bajaj. Apart from Indian market, Vincent motorcycles could also be targeted at global markets, especially Europe.Disclaimer – Design renders presented in this blog are solely for illustrative purposes and have not been commissioned, approved, or endorsed by the manufacturer. Honda Shine 100cc Launch Price Rs 65k – Cheaper Than Hero Splendor

Reliability, agility, high mileage, low-maintenance and affordability are USPs that Honda’s new 100cc Shine will need to take on Hero Splendor2023 Honda Shine 100cc LaunchedAs things stand now, Hero MotoCorp doesn’t have an answer to Activa. Honda faces a similar predicament with 100cc Splendor. While Hero’s plans in this context have not been revealed, Honda has decided to challenge Splendor with an entirely new 100cc bike. Called Honda Shine 100, this new motorcycle has now been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 64,900, ex-sh. Bookings open from today. Production will start from next month, while deliveries will start from May 2023.Honda Shine 100 – Features, Price, Mileage & Specs100cc motorcycle segment commands 33% market share of the total motorcycle sales in India. A major chunk of this 33% is eaten by Hero MotoCorp, thanks to their Splendor range of motorcycles. Monthly sales of Splendor are about 2.5 lakh units. Honda has not been present in this segment, thereby not competing in 1/3rd of the motorcycle market. With the launch of Shine 100, Honda aims at taking on the Splendor.2023 Honda Shine 100cc LaunchedSplendor 100cc is Hero’s top selling product and the primary volume generator. If Honda’s new 100cc Shine can grab even 15-20% market share in entry-level commuter segment, the company should be able to emerge as the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country in quantitative terms. Honda is relying on the Shine branding for their new 100cc motorcycle. CB Shine 125 is Honda’s top selling motorcycle currently, and also the market leader in 125cc segment. Some of the key focus areas for Honda’s new Shine 100cc commuter bike will be mileage and affordability. Among the key reasons why Splendor is preferred is its reliability, easy manoeuvrability, peppy performance and high mileage. Most Splendor users report around 65+ km mileage for the bike. Honda’s reliability is sort of unquestionable, so that aspect is already sorted out. Honda is claiming to offer best in class mileage with new Shine 1000cc.2023 Honda Shine 100cc LaunchedHonda’s Shine 100cc bike is among the cheapest in its class. Splendor was quite affordable once, but prices have increased in recent years. This has prompted buyers to explore other options. Splendor prices start from Rs 72,000 (ex-sh, Delhi). Honda has launched Shine 100 at a more affordable price point of Rs 64,900, ex-sh. – all while matching Splendor’s key USPs, it could trigger a major churn in entry-level commuter segment.Honda Shine 100: The Best Commuter Bike in India?Honda Shine 100 gets 5 colour options (Black with Red Stripes, Black with Blue Stripes, Black with Green Stripes, Black with Gold Stripes and Black with Grey Stripes). The appealing front cowl, all black alloy wheels, practical aluminum grab rail, bold tail lamp and sleek distinguished muffler compliment smooth style of the motorcycle. HMSI is also offering a special 6-year warranty package (3 years standard + 3 years optional extended warranty) on Shine 100.Honda Shine 100Built on an all new light-weight durable diamond frame, the new Honda Shine 100 gets long seat measuring 677 mm and a seat ht of 786 mm. Turning radius is just 1.9 meter. Ground clearance is 168mm while wheelbase is 1245mm. With its new 100cc Shine, Honda is expected to focus more on rural markets. While offering best-in-segment mileage, the bike could also have larger proportions as compared to Splendor. These are factors that have significant influence on customer purchase decisions in rural markets.Honda has claimed that the new Shine 100cc motorcycle delivers best in segment performance as well as mileage. The new 100cc engine comes with Fuel Injection as well as Solenoid, which makes starting the bike very smooth in any weather condition. It prevents engine start while the side stand is engaged enabling a convenient and carefree ride. Making every ride on the Shine 100 comfortable and convenient, is the Combi-Brake System (CBS) with Equalizer.2023 Honda Shine 100cc LaunchedPerformance numbers of Honda’s Shine 100cc are close to that of its primary rival Splendor Plus. Honda Shine 100 is powered by a 99.7cc, air cooled, single cylinder motor that churns out 7.6 hp and 8.05 Nm torque while rival Splendor delivers 8 bhp of max power and 8.05 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 4-speed constant mesh gearbox. Apart from Splendor, Honda’s new 100cc bike will also take on HF Deluxe, HF 100 and Bajaj Platina 100. More

2024 Kia EV9 Revealed: The First Mainstream Electric Three-Row SUV

These are the first photos and video of the production 2024 Kia EV9, an electric three-row SUV.Its bluff and blocky looks stay true to the EV9 concept from 2021.Although we sat in each of the EV9’s three spacious rows, Kia won’t yet confirm any details on its powertrain, battery pack, range, or even dimensions. We expect those details to be announced at the EV9’s official debut in early April. In both size and mission, you can think of the 2024 Kia EV9 as an electric Telluride, and we’re sure Kia would love for its latest EV to have the breakout success of that gas-powered SUV. The EV9’s debut is an especially big deal because it’s the first electric entry in the popular mid-size, three-row SUV segment, where vehicles such as the Ford Explorer, Chevy Traverse, Toyota Highlander, and, of course, Kia Telluride sell by the hundreds of thousands a year in the U.S. Sure, there are a couple three-row EVs available, such as the Rivian R1S or the Tesla Model X, but both of those are way more expensive. And the Model Y can be had with an optional third row, but it’s tiny. These first photos of the production EV9, one of 15 EVs Kia has promised by 2027, show that it adheres pretty closely to the concept that was shown at the Los Angeles show back in 2021. The Kia design team, led by Karim Habib, describes the EV9’s exterior as “refined boxiness,” a mix of sharp edges—such as the triangle shapes that jut out from the rear doors, a less dramatic version than was on the concept—but also many rounded forms. It has presence, with high shoulders but a low beltline for good visibility. Expect to see these vertical head- and taillight designs on future Kias. This early build prototype is wearing 21-inch wheels, but 19s and 20s also will be offered. The wheel inserts are also very sharp edged, with both square and triangle options on display at the event we attended in Seoul to get up close with the EV9.Everything’s Big but the FrunkKia has yet to confirm the EV9’s powertrain, battery capacity, range, or even dimensions, but we can say from standing next to it that it adheres closely to the dimensions of the EV9 concept, which are similar to those of the Telluride but with an eight-inch wheelbase stretch. This is no teardrop-shaped EV, and the tall and flat roofline makes for excellent headroom in the second and third rows, even for extremely tall adults. The only thing small about the EV9 is its tiny frunk. But of course aerodynamics are especially important on EVs, and small details such as the rear spoiler that extends from the roofline is alone responsible for a considerable improvement—0.006 to 0.007 according to Habib—to the EV9’s coefficient of drag. Again, Kia isn’t talking dimensions yet, but compared with the Telluride, the second row is at least as spacious—with generous fore-aft adjustability—and the third row has more legroom and especially headroom. Second-row seats also swivel to face the rear—remember Chrysler’s Swivel ‘n Go launched on its 2008 minivan?—but the space remaining between them in this configuration is tight. The EV9 will come in either six- or seven-passenger variants, depending on whether the second row has buckets or a bench. In uplevel models, the third row is power folding.A Spacious Interior with Details That Make it Feel Even More SoIn addition to actual spaciousness, Jochen Paesen, the VP of interior design, describes the deliberate choices to make the EV9’s interior feel even airier than it is. For example, they chose not to do a dash design that wraps around into the doors, as that can lead to an impression of feeling closed in. For the same reason, the headrests on the front seats are mesh so rear passengers can see past them. The dash is horizontal and minimalist, and what looks like one giant screen protruding from it is two 12.3-inch screens—one for the gauge cluster and a second for infotainment—with a dedicated HVAC readout between them. Physical knobs and buttons are reduced compared to Kia’s current lineup, with just a few key HVAC controls and a volume knob remaining, along with touch-sensitive controls embedded in the dash to jump to different menus. This is an entirely new generation of infotainment, but Kia isn’t yet talking details or features of this new system just yet. Based on information from a survey Kia ran, we expect the EV9 to come with either a single rear motor or one at each axle for all-wheel drive and to be priced in the $50,000 to $70,000 neighborhood. The EV9 concept claimed 300 miles of range, and that jibes with the readout in the display of this early prototype, which showed 91 percent battery and 436 km (271 miles) to empty. The concept also promises even faster charging than the EV6, which is already one of the quickest we’ve tested. We expect many of these questions to be answered very soon at the EV9’s official debut in late March, and Kia says it will be on sale by the very end of 2023 or early 2024.Director, Vehicle TestingDave VanderWerp has spent more than 20 years in the automotive industry, in varied roles from engineering to product consulting, and now leading Car and Driver’s vehicle-testing efforts. Acura TLX Type S PMC in Gotham Gray Will Be a Very Limited Edition

Acura is making an additional 50 TLX Type Ss in a 2023 TLX Type S PMC Edition. The limited-run PMC Editions are mechanically identical to the standard TLX Type S, but these will be finished in a limited-run color, Gotham Gray. The Gotham Gray versions will run at a hefty premium over the standard TLX Type S, starting at $66,995. Acura allowed barely enough time for the red, white, and blue paint to dry on the TLX Type S PMC Edition, which was limited to 300 copies, before announcing an additional 50 in Gotham Gray. PMC stands for Performance Manufacturing Center, the same facility that built the NSX Type S supercar and will now build the special edition TLX Type S PMC Edition. We thought the price of the red, white, and blue PMC Edition was steep when we saw the $7550 premium over the mechanically identical TLX Type S. We still think that—but now Acura is charging an additional $3000 for the honor of owning one of 50 PMC Editions in Gotham Gray. Like the other three PMC Editions, Acura pulled this color from the NSX, this time from the now out of production NSX Type S, where the matte gray paint is a $6000 add-on and is limited to 70 cars. Mechanically, all that extra cash doesn’t do a whole lot for you. Mostly it gives you the peace of mind that your TLX is one of 50 in Gotham Gray. Underneath the bodywork, the components are the same as what you’ll find in the standard TLX Type S. That means a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine with 355 horsepower, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and Acura’s SH-AWD system with torque vectoring. Limited Edition, Hand-AssembledAll PMC Editions are hand-assembled at the eponymous Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio. The limited-edition PMC car does get a handful of visual tweaks from black wheels, badging and door handles to a carbon-fiber decklid lip spoiler and rear diffuser. Inside, the PMC Edition has a red leather interior with black contrast stitching, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a host of carbon-fiber trim pieces. After production, each PMC Edition goes through the same quality control process the NSX did, including a dyno check, paint inspection, and rough-road simulation. Each of the limited-run cars comes with a unique PMC Edition serial plaque and a special shipping process that includes a cover to protect the paint and delivery to dealerships in an enclosed single-car carrier. This content is imported from poll. Newman's Own Volvo 740 Wagon Is Our Bring a Trailer Auction Pick of the Day

Looking for the fastest way to haul several cases of tasty salad dressing or spaghetti sauce home from the grocery store? Consider this 1988 Volvo 740 wagon.Formerly owned by Paul Newman, this brick-shaped Volvo packs a surprise under the hood: a turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 from a Buick Grand National. This 740 is one of a series of modified Volvo wagons the legendary actor and racer owned, and it’s now for sale.Car and DriverWickedly fast at the wheel of a racing car and possessed of an effortless cool, Paul Newman was basically Steve McQueen without the unpleasant personal baggage. To most people, he was the star of films like Cool Hand Luke or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but Newman was more Lime Rock than Hollywood. A favorite son of Westport, Connecticut, and a family man with a marriage that lasted half a century (until his death in 2008), he had a penchant for Volvo station wagons. Newman, though, liked his Swedish iron extra-spicy underneath, as shown by his 1988 Volvo 740 wagon, up for auction on Bring a Trailer (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos).Related StoriesA copy of the title indicates that Newman purchased this 740 in July 1988, and it’s thought to be the first Volvo he had modified to his specifications. Those extended to the fitment of a turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 out of a Buick Grand National hooked to a five-speed manual transmission sourced from a Pontiac Firebird. Bring a TrailerBring a TrailerIn 1988, a factory-spec Volvo 740 Turbo wagon came with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder good for roughly 150 horsepower. Newman’s swap more than doubled the available power to approximately 320 horses (thanks in part to a chipped ECU).Bring a TrailerSubtle bodywork is complemented by a mild lowering on Bilstein dampers and springs and anti-roll bars from Volvo specialist IPD. The five-spoke 16-inch wheels are classic 1980s Volvo and wear BFGoodrich g-Force Comp-2 A/S tires. Despite these clues, any bystander would think they were looking at an ordinary old boxy Volvo, right up until this thing smoked its rear tires and hammered off toward the horizon.Bring a TrailerBring a TrailerNewman, who reportedly got his first taste of racing while filming the Indy 500–themed 1969 film Winning, went on to own Volvo 960 wagons with V-8 transplants. He turned his Connecticut neighbor David Letterman on to them, too, and Jerry Seinfeld would drive one of those for an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.Besides movies and racing, Newman’s philanthropic work is what really puts the final gloss on his legend. His Newman’s Own brand has contributed some $600 million toward charitable causes since its founding in 1982. In 1988, the year this Volvo was delivered, he founded the Hole in the Wall Gang camp, a place where children dealing with serious illness could enjoy the freedom of summer camp. As a nod to this charitable spirit, the seller of this ex-Newman Volvo will donate a portion of the proceeds of the sale to the Hole in the Wall Gang camp. If a Grand National–powered sleeper wagon with celebrity provenance wasn’t enough, casting the winning bid on this Volvo will do a little good in the world. It’s doubtless what Newman himself would have wanted.
