2025 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Will Be the Last of a Legendary Line

From the May 2023 issue of Car and Driver. What It IsThe last Camaro before Chevy replaces it with an EV. This track-focused version is the spiritual successor to the fifth-generation Z/28.Why It MattersAmong never-ending bar arguments over cars, none is more heated than Camaro versus Mustang. It’s as American a rivalry as Ohio State versus Michigan, Cowboys versus Eagles, or “Tastes great!” versus “Less filling!” After this Camaro, though, the debate may die out.PlatformLike the current Camaro, the Z/28 rides on GM’s longitudinal-engine Alpha platform. The chassis will get spool-valve dampers from Multimatic and carbon-ceramic rotors and calipers from Brembo. Any and all fat will be trimmed. Massive R-comp tires will offer race-car-like grip.PowertrainWe’re hoping for a version of the 670-hp LT6 from the Corvette Z06, which here will be choked a bit to produce only 650 horsepower. Which is fine. We’d probably take a 600-hp LT6 if we could get it with a six-speed manual transmission.CompetitionAny number of scatty Dodge Challenger models, Ford Mustang Dark Horse, Porsche 718 GT4 RS (though it’ll likely hang with the GT3 RS on track). What Might Go WrongThe plug could be pulled at any second. The last Z/28 didn’t fly off dealer lots, but its status as a durable track toy is practically legendary at this point. The radio and A/C delete won’t be offered this time, and the car will likely come only one way to streamline production. Chevy will build a predetermined number (think 1000 or fewer) and kick itself if it builds too many.Estimated Arrival and PriceChevrolet has said that Camaro production will end in 2024, and the Z/28s will be the last off the line, with deliveries starting next fall.More Cars Coming SoonExecutive EditorK.C. Colwell is Car and Driver’s executive editor, who covers new cars and technology with a keen eye for automotive nonsense and with what he considers to be great car sense, which is a humblebrag. Honda ‘Activa 6G’ Name Is No More – We Might Not Get 7G

Honda removes 6g suffix from Activa nameThe 109.51 cc single cylinder engine on Honda Activa generates same numbers as before and boasts identical pricing tooHMSI is the No 1 scooter brand in India. Activa has been the primary volume generator for many years now. So much so, that people often default on an Activa when buying a scooter. In FY 2023, Honda manufactured 21.5 lakh Activa, most of which were sold in India alone.Honda has, surprisingly, decided to change the name of its bread and butter scooter in May 2023. Before you ask, no. The Activa name is not going anywhere. Instead, Honda is dropping the 6G tag from the name. HMSI has not quoted a reason, but Activa is just an Activa now and the 6G suffix is dropped.Honda Activa Ditches 6G Name – Why though? Why? This is the million-dollar question. As HMSI has not quoted a reason, it can be anyone’s guess. Maybe Honda is doing this as Activa didn’t really get six generations of upgrades. Three at best along with the major powertrain upgrade in 2020 as part of the Indian Government’s push for fewer tailpipe carbon emissions through BS6 emission standard. But, Honda already knew this. So, why the change in name now in May 2023? This might be a part of Honda’s strategic product positioning exercise. Where Honda might bring in variations of its Activa lineup in the future.Honda removes 6g suffix from Activa nameNeed for more variety in the Activa brand is likely to be a necessity in the future. Lastly, Honda is introducing its maiden electric scooter for India in the near future. It will feature swappable battery tech as well. Maybe Honda’s future EV’s name might create a convoluted reception for its current ICE scooter’s name. Anticipation of this might be one of the reasons as well. What next for future Activa updates? No 7G?Long story short, no. There won’t be an Activa 7G or an 8G. Instead, incremental updates for Activa lineup are likely to be recognised with the subsequent year when they were implemented. For example, Honda is likely to recognise updates in 2023 as MY2023 Activa and so forth.Honda Activa’s name is the only change that the company is implementing. No mechanical updates. This means Activa’s tried and tested 109.51cc single-cylinder engine is still on offer. This engine generates 7.73 bhp of power and 8.9 Nm of torque and is mated to a CVT. Honda offers a silent starter, LED headlights, DRL, external fuel filler cap and other features.Honda Activa 2023 specsIndia’s largest scooter maker has not hiked the prices of Activa as well. So the Rs. 75,347 price tag is the same as before too. It’s only the name that Honda has changed and nothing else. Goodbye 6G suffix! More

Citroen C3 Aircross Electric 7 Seater SUV Spied For 1st Time?

Citroen C3 Aircross Electric Spied? When launched, Citroen eC3 Aircross could pack close to 40 kWh battery, enabling a range of around 450 km on a single chargeThe French brand hatched C-Cubed strategy to tackle the tricky Indian automotive market. This plan involved targeting mainstream segments that generate the most volumes in India and heavy localization of up to 95%. We got C3 Hatchback, its electric derivative eC3 and recently, C3 Aircross 7-seater compact SUV.At the C3 Aircross debut event, Citroen had expressed its intention of launching an electrified version of its 7-seater compact SUV. Now, Citroen seems to have commenced testing of eC3 Aircross. This will be India’s first sub Rs. 20 lakh electric 7-seater.Citroen eC3 Aircross Spied Testing?Automotive enthusiast Venkat Ram spotted this test mule in Chennai recently and shared the same on Rushlane Spylane Facebook group. In the short video, this test mule is fully draped in camouflage despite debuting already. At first glance, it looks like a regular Citroen C3 Aircross test mule.On keener inspection, we can see its battery module jutting out of its skateboard. We saw something similar in our first drive impressions of eC3. But on the eC3 hatchback, a 29.2 kWh battery module is only visible from the side and not from the rear. On the recent test mule, a battery pack is evident from the rear as well.[embedded content]This could be an indication of a larger battery spread out till the rear. So, a 40 kWh battery could be possible, considering the smaller Nexon EV Max gets a 40.5 kWh battery. The test mule dons a temporary registration plate dated 2021, which seems to be in line with Citroen’s product development as the first set of eC3 test mules are believed to be registered in 2020.What will it pack other than an electric powertrain?Everything Citroen offers on C3 Aircross and some more. For starters, Citroen eC3 Aircross will pack the same interiors as its ICE counterpart along with a drive selector and center console from eC3 Hatchback. So, a 10.2” horizontal touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver’s display, and steering-mounted controls will be on offer.Apart from these, roof-mounted rear AC vents, an option between seven and five seating layouts, quirky styling, swanky 17” alloy wheels, roof rails, and LED DRLs are highly likely. While at it, we hope Citroen throws in LED headlights, LED fog lamps, cruise control, keyless entry, and probably even a sunroof, considering how trendy it is in India.Launch Price Around Rs 15-20 Lakh?Hyundai is testing an electrified Creta to launch in India. It could share powertrains with Kona EV and will rival Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and to some extent, the smaller Tata Nexon EV Max. Citroen eC3 Aircross will lock horns with these EVs when launched. It can offer a claimed range of about 450 km and a real-world range of 350 km.The Ace in this French car maker’s sleeve will definitely be quirky styling and 7 seats (5+2). Current eC3 hatchback costs between Rs. 11.50 lakh and Rs. 12.43 lakh. Which is around Rs. 5 lakh over its ICE counterparts. If ICE C3 Aircross starts from Rs. 8.5 to Rs. 9 lakh, eC3 Aircross is likely to cost from around Rs. 16 lakh (all prices ex-sh). More

This EV Charger Can Make Money for Property Owners

EV charging startup itselectric has partnered with the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Hyundai CRADLE to test curbside chargers in New York City this year. These curbside chargers can be installed at no cost to property owners, and can produce $1000 or more each year in income for the site owners.Curbside charging is viewed as a crucial type of infrastructure for apartment dwellers, as several U.S. states prepare to transition to ZEV-only sales by 2035.As New York state prepares to phase out the sale of internal-combustion cars and light trucks by 2035, signs of progress toward that goal in the state’s largest city can be simultaneously abundant and also dispiriting. Large charging plazas are still years away from being commonplace, and EV ownership in the city often means a dedicated Level 2 charger in a garage at home. But apartment dwellers who own cars will also have to contend with the 2035 goal, and this goes not only for New York City residents but the entire state. Absent a charger at home, will all car owners have to spend time each week waiting for their cars to be charged at some station? This is the problem that curbside chargers hope to address, but progress in their adoption has been lacking, mostly due to the investment and construction required.Understanding the Charging ProcessA new effort by Brooklyn-based startup itselectric, in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Hyundai CRADLE, will test curbside chargers of its own design in the city later this year. What’s more, the company is the only charging network that actually offers a revenue sharing model to owners of residential property.”The United States has high goals for electric vehicle adoption, but the country is not currently prepared for what this means in terms of accessible charging,” said Nathan King, CEO & Co-Founder of itselectric. “Our technology is specifically built for cities to ensure that every community—no matter the median income or prevalence of driveways and garages—has access to clean transportation.”The Network Won’t Charge Property OwnersThe company partners with individual property owners who want to install chargers as a source of income, with itselectric analyzing the electrical panel and the curb for suitability. If a site seems like a good fit, itselectric installs and maintains a Level 2 charger at no cost to property owners, which is powered by spare energy from a building’s electrical supply. EV owners who become members of the network can then locate a charger and use it. The company says property owners who host chargers can earn amounts starting at $1000 per charger per year. The pilot program will see six charging posts at two locations starting this spring: at Steiner Studios and at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. The posts, with fully detachable cords, will be used for two months by local EV drivers recruited from the area, and will remain operational for another four months after the initial pilot period.itselectric has been named as a finalist in Hyundai CRADLE’s EV Open Innovation Challenge, selected based on its potential to improve the charging experience for vehicle owners and expand access to EVs.Will This Idea Spread Outside NYC?”itselectric’s modular AC charging solution brings low-cost, revenue-generating infrastructure to traditionally underserved urban communities around the country,” said Olabisi Boyle, Vice President, Product Planning and Mobility Strategy, Hyundai Motor North America. “Hyundai is dedicated to a greener future and our partnership with itselectric will help us achieve our goal of carbon neutrality by 2045.”Of course, progress will have to happen on a wider scale not only in New York City, but also across the state and the entire country, as more states adopt 2035 as a target date for switching to ZEV-only new vehicle sales. Charging plazas are in the works for NYC, but even now it’s clear that curbside charging providers will have a lot of ground to cover in the next decade, especially in areas underserved by large charging stations, as EVs become more of a common vehicle type for many. Jay Ramey grew up around very strange European cars, and instead of seeking out something reliable and comfortable for his own personal use he has been drawn to the more adventurous side of the dependability spectrum. Despite being followed around by French cars for the past decade, he has somehow been able to avoid Citroën ownership, judging them too commonplace, and is currently looking at cars from the former Czechoslovakia. Jay has been with Autoweek since 2013.  More
