BYD Seal Launched In Thailand From 1.32 Million Baht (Rs. 30 Lakh)

BYD Seal sedanPrimary highlight elements for BYD Seal electric sedan are the 82.5 kWh battery, 530 bhp, 670 Nm and a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.8 secondsThe Chinese EV juggernaut, BYD, has launched Seal electric sedan in Thailand. The starting price is very attractive and poses a tempting proposition. BYD Seal launched in Thailand, costs between 1.325 million Baht and 1.599 million Baht for base Dynamic RWD variant and top-spec Performance AWD variant respectively.BYD Seal Launched In ThailandWith today’s currency exchange rates, Thai pricing translates to a bracket ranging between Rs. 30 lakh and Rs. 36 lakh in India. This is stellar pricing for what BYD Seal offers as a package in terms of range, performance, features and size. This vehicle is of particular importance for us there is a very good probability of it launching in India.BYD currently has two vehicles on sale in India – E6 and Atto 3. The company’s official website already features BYD Seal sedan. The car went live on Indian website some time ago. However, BYD hasn’t launched it in India and the pricing hasn’t been announced yet. We hope Indian pricing is close to Thai pricing. In Thailand, BYD gathered 1,104 bookings in just an hour. This is a 4800 mm long sedan with 1875 mm width and 1460 mm height and a 2920 mm long wheelbase. Seal electric sedan shares its e-Platform 3.0 platform with Atto 3 and Dolphin. The battery cells in this platform double up as car’s structure too. Base Dynamic RWD variant packs a smaller 61.4 kWh battery with a single 204 bhp electric motor, driving rear wheels.BYD Seal Electric dashboardRange for base variant is 510 km on a single charge and it costs 1.325 million Baht (Rs. 30 lakh). Mid-spec Premium RWD brings a larger 82.5 kWh battery and the longest range of the bunch at 650 km. Premium RWD is still a single-motor layout as the name indicates, but is capable of 313 bhp. It costs 1.449 million Baht (Rs. 32.7 lakh).530 bhp, 670 Nm, AWD, 0-100 km/h in 3.8 secondsThe top-spec Performance AWD is the most powerful variant of Seal. Performance attributes include an impressive 50:50 weight distribution, dual motor layout with AWD, 530 bhp of combined power, 670 Nm of combined torque and a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.8 seconds. This dual motor layout draws power from the same 82.5 kWh battery as Premium RWD variant. At just 580 km from a single charge, range is slightly less than single motor Premium RWD variant. Exterior design takes inspiration from Porsche Taycan and the sloping coupe roofline looks sophisticated too. On the inside, BYD Seal electric sedan brings a unison between practicality and high-tech appeal.BYD Seal Electric live on India websiteThe flowing lines on the dashboard remind us of Lexus LS sedan and the rotating instrument screen is noteworthy. Because of taxation between nations, BYD Seal costs just Rs. 4.5 lakh more than Chinese prices. However, BYD Seal costs EUR 50,990 in Europe (Rs. 45 lakh) and 296,800 Reals in Brazil (Rs. 49 lakh). Indian pricing could go way higher than that. Primary rivals include Kia EV6 GT AWD and BMW i4. More

That’s considerably more than the previous RX L, and thousands more than the starting prices of rival mid-size luxury SUVs such as the Infiniti QX60 and Cadillac XT6. We don’t even yet know pricing for the eventual TX550h+ plug-in hybrid, but that might top $80,000 given that it’s the most powerful version in the lineup. The front-wheel-drive TX350 model, which has a 275-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four, carries a base price of $55,050 and gets more expensive as you opt for the better-equipped Premium ($58,450) and Luxury ($60,950) trim levels. It produces 366 horsepower in total and essentially the same setup found in the related Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max. The TX500h comes standard with F Sport Performance upgrades including adaptive dampers and several appearance tweaks. It also offers a more expensive trim level with extra kit, the $72,650 TX500h F Sport Performance Luxury (say that two times fast).Lexus says the TX350 and TX500h models are reaching dealerships already, while the TX550h+ will go on sale in early 2024. Pricing for that model will be announced later on.Senior EditorDespite being raised on a steady diet of base-model Hondas and Toyotas—or perhaps because of it—Joey Capparella nonetheless cultivated an obsession for the automotive industry throughout his childhood in Nashville, Tennessee. Kia Trademarked EV1 To EV9 In India – EV3 Spotted Testing?

Kia EV9 – For reference onlyThe trademarks filed in India for Kia’s upcoming EVs start from the smallest EV1 and goes till flagship EV9With rapid electrification across global markets, Kia is busy ramping up its EV portfolio. These new-gen EVs like EV6, EV9 and upcoming EV5 are in addition to other Kia electric cars that share their platform with their ICE-powered counterparts. Some examples include Niro EV and Soul EV. Here in India, Kia currently offers only the EV6 electric SUV.Kia Trademarked EV1 To EV9 In India – Launch confirmed? That said, the South Korean company has trademarked all nine electric vehicles it intends to launch in the future. Of these nine, EV6 has already launched in India and we’re likely to get Kia EV4 which was spotted testing recently. These trademarks from Kia show ‘Protection Granted’ as their status, indicating that there are launch intentions. The flagship EV9 has been launched in a few markets and EV5 has broken covers more recently. EV6 is the first of these vehicles to launch. Based on these vehicles, we can have a certain idea as to where the rest of these cars fall in terms of size. In this sense, Kia EV1 will be the smallest of this lot and could be an electric hatchback.Probably matching size of a Picanto hatchback (3.6m length) sold globally. Picanto is Kia’s counterpart of Hyundai i10, sold as Grand i10 in India. EV2 may be close to Hyundai Exter’s dimensions. We’re talking about around 3.8m to 3.9m in length and a crossover DNA. EV3 might be a bridge between sub 4m and compact-size vehicles.Kia EV1, Kia EV2, Kia EV3, Kia EV4 trademarksHow many will launch in India? We’re talking about a Kia Soul EV sized vehicle with around 4.2m length. This makes EV4 a Seltos-sized EV with around 4.4m length that will be Kia’s counterpart of upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, already been spotted in testing multiple times. As we go higher up Kia’s naming scheme hierarchy, we reach recently unveiled Kia EV5 SUV which measures 4,615 mm in length.Kia EV6 crossover has been out for a long time and measures 4,695 mm in length. However, Kia EV9 is the recently launched flagship and measures 5,015mm in length, similar to Kia Telluride SUV. This leaves Kia EV7 and EV8 in the mystery and one of those is likely to be a mid-size sedan that may be Kia’s counterpart of Inoniq 6 sedan measuring around 4.8m to 4.9m in length.Kia EV3 spotted testing? Or is it Kia EV4?The South Korean brand is testing a new EV that will slot below the recently unveiled EV5. Test mules have been spotted abroad and show a vehicle bearing proportions close to a Seltos and may bear EV4 name when launched. EV3 must be in development already and might boast a similar size as Soul EV. EV4 test mule spotted testing is very different from Soul EV in its construction.Kia EV5, Kia EV7, Kia EV8, Kia EV9 trademarksIn this sense, Soul EV had steeply raked A-pillars along with a squared-off tail section. Kia EV4 (supposedly) test mules show swoopy A-pillars with a more conventional tail section with quite a bit more body behind rear doors than on Soul EV. Reminds us more of a Seltos.Hints of ‘Opposites United’ design language are evident along with Kia EV line signature asymmetrical wheel patterns. Powertrains are likely to be shared with upcoming Hyundai Creta electric, probably based on a new platform and not E-GMP.New Kia EV4 electric SUV vs Seltos More

BMW R 1300 GS Unveiled – The Most Powerful GS Bike Yet!

BMW R 1300 GS UnveiledNot only is the new BMW R 1300 GS lighter by 12kg, but it is also more powerful and torquier than R 1250 GSBMW Motorrad’s flagship ADV has gotten a major update. Behold the BMW R 1300 GS that will replace current flagship ADV R 1250 GS. As the name suggests, there is a bump in displacement that enables a bump in power too. However, weight has gone down by up to 12 kg, giving R 1300 GS more power-to-weight ratio as well. India launch in the coming months is likely.BMW R 1300 GS Unveiled – Radical new design!Within the 2W ADV world, BMW GS range is among the most popular. Immediate rivals for R 1300 GS in the crosshair are Ducati Multistrada V4, Harley-Davidson Pan America and others. BMW has overhauled the entire design and appearance of its flagship ADV. Gone is its asymmetric fascia that was a distinct element. In its place, there is a new face that is smaller in size and has a quad-pixel-effect LED DRL signature, mimicking an ‘X’. Reminds me of Porsche’s modern LED DRL signature. Middle of the ‘X’ insignia is a mono projector unit. Within the body are two LED fog lamps too. Speaking of body, the overall bulk seems to be slightly narrowed down for a sleeker appearance. This effect is compounded at the rear with a much sleeker appearance. Front turn indicators are housed in ORVMs. Tubular rear subframe is replaced with a cast aluminium unit. Revised suspension setup includes BMW’s signature telelever front forks, while the rear gets a paralever setup. BMW is using a sheet metal steel frame, which seems to be stiffer than preceding unit.BMW has compacted R 1300 GS’ engine as opposed to R 1250 GS’, despite a bump in displacement numbers. Gearbox is now beneath its engine and there is a new tubular frame around this engine too. Despite all compacting measures, BMW R 1300 GS still has a lot of presence, accentuated by a massive Boxer engine jutting out of its body. Most powerful GS motorcycle everSpeaking of engines, BMW R 1300 GS has a 1300cc engine as the name suggests. This Boxer engine churns out 145 bhp of peak power at 7750 RPM and 149 Nm of peak torque at 6500 RPM. As opposed to R 1250 GS, this new engine brings 9 more horses and 6 more torques. Tipping scales at 237 kg, weight has gone down by 12 kg. This lends better power-to-weight figures than before.Off-road credentials like long travel suspension setup, wire-spoke wheels with tubeless block-pattern tyres, up-swept exhaust, high ground clearance, and underbody protection are present too. Being BMW’s flagship ADV, R 1300 GS comes equipped with a plethora of electronic rider aids. For the first time, GS line is featuring radar-based rider assistance features too.BMW R 1300 GS New Headlights and TFT ScreenPrimary among them, are Active cruise control, front collision warning and lane change warning. These work just like they would on an ADAS-equipped car. Other features include electronically adjustable suspension with DSA (Dynamic Suspension Adjustment). DSA now adaptively varies spring stiffness and height of the motorcycle based on the four riding modes on offer and other conditions. There is a TFT instrument cluster as well, which boasts Bluetooth connectivity. LED headlights and an adjustable windscreen are notable elements too. Price will go up as opposed to R 1250 GS.BMW R 1300 GS profile More

A Closer Look at the Mullen GT, the Would-Be Electric Sports Car

The Mullen GT is an electric sports car from a startup with roots in China. It claims a 60 mph time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 125 mph.The price is $150,000 and deliveries are said to start in 2025 or 2026.Deep in Citi Field Lot E is an unidentifiable coupe under a green tent. Its low-slung body, cloaked in flat gray with a large black swoosh, is more concealing with every closing step. There’s a dragonfly emblem on the nose. A side swoosh is finished in exposed carbon and channels air to a pair of heat exchangers. The tail says Mullen. It’s the Mullen GT, an electric sports car from a startup that plans to start delivering cars in the U.S. in 2025 or 2026.Like many automotive startups, Mullen’s backstory is complicated. It starts with the 2015 Shanghai debut of the Qiantu K50, an electric sports car that parent company Great Wall Huaguan would sell in China from 2018 until 2020. Later, at the 2019 New York Auto Show, a California company called Mullen Automotive pledged to import kits and sell finished, fully-certified examples in 2020. We’ve tracked many EV brands that have yet to sell a single car in the U.S., such as Bollinger, of which Mullen now owns a 60 percent stake. Mullen’s Nasdaq IPO was in November 2021 and it had a second reveal weeks later at the Los Angeles Auto Show, an SUV coupe called the Mullen Five. Now, at this parking lot in Queens, we’re devoting an afternoon to Mullen’s elusive two-seater, the rebadged EV that Qiantu quit building three years ago. While Mullen was also prepping to build rebadged Chinese cargo vans and trucksin Mississippi, the K50 was using at least four names. Until last March, it was the Dragonfly K50, Mullen K50, Qiantu K50 by Mullen, or Mullen Dragonfly. Next to us is Mitchell Dyche, an engineer whose six-foot-five frame comfortably fits in the cozy cabin. He says he specified the 19-inch center-lock wheels, Brembo brakes, and the Pirelli P Zero tires. The rest is Qiantu’s original vision, right down to the manufacturer etchings on the glass. Up close, it looks good. Inside and out, the Mullen GT has the proportions and dimensions of a mid-engine car. It has about the same footprint as an Acura NSX. The body gaps could be tighter, but the GT is not the scrappy prototype we expected. There’s a large portrait touchscreen canted toward the driver that’s still under development, a digital instrument panel, and a large curved shifter. Unlike countless Chinese cars, the GT doesn’t overtly copy the design of any established brands. And while it’s a demonstrator, there’s noticeable polish.MullenThe dual-motor setup is silent and devoid of whine, the regen is smooth, body motions are controlled, and the steering is pleasantly weighted. The specs are reasonable for a performance EV: About 400 horsepower packed into an aluminum frame with carbon body panels, all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, a 78.0-kWh T-shaped lithium-ion battery with the bulk of its cells behind the driver, and a claimed 230 miles of range. In Sport mode, the GT gets a little perkier, though in our three short laps we didn’t feel either motor shifting torque. Grip and stopping power are expectedly high. But Mullen has downgraded the GT’s performance since March, when it More

This Volkswagen Camper Bus Is Now a Camping Trailer

The camper versions of Volkswagen’s iconic Microbus may be great to camp in, but they’re not so great to drive. This build solves that problem.Created (mostly) from a 1974 VW Type 2, this VW is sure to be the only one of its kind at Burning Man.This is one Bring a Trailer auction where you’ll instead want to bring a tow vehicle.Volkswagen Microbus campers are undeniably cool. They’re also undeniably slow. Attaching a cart to a team of sloths is probably a faster way to get around. And maybe it isn’t the greatest idea to drive around in modern traffic in a vehicle where the front crash protection is basically just your legs. But what if you could have all the fun of a pop-top vintage VW, without the downsides? Have we got the camper for you.Car and DriverToday’s pick at auction site Bring A Trailer (or in this case, maybe Bring a Trailer Hitch?)—which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos—is a 1974 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia… trailer. It’s a wacky but well-executed idea that gets rid of the slow vintage-vehicle part of Westfalia ownership but lets you keep the quirky camper fun.Bring a TrailerThe builder took a 1974 VW Type 2, repaired all the rust, then welded up the front doors and wheel wells and jettisoned the front axle and steering gear. A new tube-frame chassis underneath provides structural strength, and the removal of the engine creates more storage than you’d get in a powered Westy. The interior is finished in nicely contrasting bamboo and tweed, and foam insulation keeps the cold at bay. A pop-top camper top from a 1972 Wesfalia completes the makeover.Bring a TrailerWith a stated total weight of 2360 pounds and a tongue weight of 250 pounds, this Westfalia trailer can be towed by a broad range of vehicles. Embrace an environmentally friendly attitude, as befits a 1970s Westfalia, and hook it up behind your EV and go enjoy nature. Or strap this thing behind a Ram TRX and beat everyone else to the psychedelic rock festival. Bring a TrailerOf course, the real power move would be to tow this trailer with another Westfalia, although it would have to be one of those resto-modded ones done up with a Subaru engine and upgraded brakes. Imagine the double-takes you’d get when cruising down the highway.Related StoriesIn any event, this fun little VW bus-trailer is going to be headed out on new adventures soon. The no-reserve auction ends October 5.Contributing EditorBrendan McAleer is a freelance writer and photographer based in North Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
