    The Most Expensive Ferrari Ever Sold: This 1962 330 LM/250 GTO

    This car set a record for a Ferrari sale price at auction.It’s the only 1962 GTO campaigned by Scuderia Ferrari.The auction took place at RM Sotheby’s in New York on November 13, 2023.There’s a new most-expensive Ferrari and, yes, it’s a 250 GTO. This 1962 example was just sold by RM Sotheby’s for $51,705,000. This result eclipses former headline-making Ferrari sales, including a $48.4 million 250 GTO 2018 Monterey sale, an ex-Stirling Moss 1957 335S that brought $35.8 million in 2016, and a $38 million 250 GTO that sold in Monterey in 2014.     GM Will Make Its Own Formula 1 Engines, Will Only Partner with Andretti

    General Motors has announced official plans to produce its own Formula 1 power units (meaning both engines and hybrid components) starting in 2028, and to make them for Andretti Cadillac. This is a big announcement given that there’s a catch: F1 hasn’t approved Andretti’s entry into the sport. What we’re seeing is GM throwing some of its multibillion-dollar weight around.Alongside Cadillac’s previously announced plans to join the proposed Andretti Global F1 team, General Motors has announced plans to build Andretti’s F1 proposal into a factory-backed powerhouse that can work on chassis and engine design in concert.F1 Approval NeededAndretti Global, which was the only team approved by the FIA in its recent search for viable new F1 teams, still needs approval from F1 itself before it can enter the championship. That process is ongoing and has become contentious, with direct quotes from executives suggesting an open attempt by current members of the F1 grid to bring GM in without accepting Andretti’s team. Williams executive James Vowles has optimistically suggested an intent to poach GM as a partner after loudly objecting to Andretti’s F1 bid and reporting from the Associated Press suggests that F1 itself has requested the company abandon Andretti to partner with an existing team, but GM president Mark Reuss stated simply this week that “GM is committed to partnering with Andretti to race in F1.”Fun with F1This is to say, F1 wants GM’s involvement, but it wants its time and engineering and money to flow into one of its existing teams. GM wants in on F1, but it wants to do so with one of GM’s own tight partners. GM wants to do things its way. Honestly, calling Andretti “one of GM’s own partners” is understating Andretti here, though. Andretti is a massive name in American racing: the biggest Honda team in IMSA, winner of a third of the last 15 Indy 500s, reigning Formula E champion.The addition of a unique engine partner committed only to their program makes Andretti’s bid far and away the most complete proposal to join the series since Toyota entered as a 12th team in 2002, but it will not change the simple truth that an 11th F1 team means reduced revenue for ten other teams already on the grid. While that argument may be odious to anyone who does not currently own a Formula 1 team, it is still something Andretti and Cadillac will have to navigate to get their place on the F1 grid.If Andretti Cadillac Becomes 11th Team . . . If Andretti Cadillac is approved as an 11th team, the team would have to operate with an engine provided by another supplier from 2025 through 2027. With new engine regulations set to be introduced in 2026, that partnership will span two generations of powertrain with whatever manufacturer they choose. Alpine was initially expected to be that partner, but the French brand said that its deal to supply engines to the team expired last month.While the team itself is still in flux, GM joins Honda and Audi in announcing intentions to build a powertrain for F1’s new simplified engine regulations, which go into effect in 2026. Mercedes-AMG, Ferrari, Alpine, and Red Bull’s in-house engine shop will continue as engine suppliers when the new regulations kick in, although Red Bull’s engine program will add a crucial partnership with Ford that introduces another manufacturer’s name to the grid. In addition to its upcoming Formula 1 program, Cadillac currently races in the IMSA GTP and FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar classes with the new-for-2023 V-Series.R racer. Action Express Racing, one of two factory teams running under the Cadillac Racing banner, won this season’s IMSA championship by just 21 points. GM also runs factory-backed programs in GT racing in both sports car series, NHRA drag racing, NASCAR stock car racing, and IndyCar open wheel racing. Future Cadillac F1 partner Andretti, notably, currently races against GM programs as a factory partner of Honda in both IMSA GTP and IndyCar. More

    Karma Automotive Shows Sleek Kaveya Coupe, Outlines Future Plans

    Karma Automotive, birthed from the 2013 bankruptcy of Fisker Automotive, has revealed its future plans, which include the Kaveya coupe.This sensuous two-door will make up to 1000 horsepower and travel at least 250 miles on a charge when it arrives in 2025, Karma claims.The company is also planning a revised version of its Revero range-extender hybrid and a new electric sedan called Gyesera. Henrik Fisker—the former BMW, Ford, and Aston Martin designer—returned with his second eponymous company this year, delivering the first examples of the electric Fisker Ocean SUV. But his original dream, the Karma sedan, lived on after Fisker Automotive went bankrupt in 2013. Dubbed the Karma Revero, the slinky sedan has been sold in minuscule numbers by California-based and Chinese-owned Karma Automotive since 2017, refreshed and renamed the GS-6 in 2021. Now Karma has revealed the eye-catching Kaveya coupe, which will lead the company’s three-pronged plan for surviving through the 2020s.Karma AutomotiveUnveiled in Las Vegas over the weekend, the Kaveya is undoubtedly a stunning machine. Measuring 187.7 inches from bumper to bumper, it’s a tad lengthier than an Aston Martin DB12, although its 107.0-inch wheelbase is about three inches shorter. Karma estimates a curb weight of 5300 pounds, with an aluminum space frame draped in carbon-fiber body panels. The bodywork is smooth and glossy, with thin headlights and taillights and subtle slashes that serve as cooling vents and aerodynamic channels.Two versions of the Kaveya are planned: a rear-wheel-drive, 536-hp base model and an all-wheel-drive, 1000-hp variant. That version will have 1270 pound-feet of torque, with a target run to 60 mph in less than 3.0 seconds and a top speed over 180 mph. The 120.0-kWh battery will provide a claimed range of more than 250 miles and recharging from 10 to 80 percent will take 45 minutes. Karma didn’t specify which version was shown in these images. The 536-hp model is due out in the fourth quarter of 2025, while Karma is aiming for the fourth quarter of 2026 for the more powerful Kaveya.2021 Karma GS-6.Steve Siler|Car and DriverKarma also teased two other models on the horizon. The GS-6 will go back to being called the Revero, and the only image Karma provided shows a body that still retains the curvy profile of the original Fisker Karma. The specifications largely mirror the outgoing GS-6, with 536 horsepower from a range-extender hybrid setup that combines two electric motors with a gas engine that serves as a generator. Karma didn’t say if the gas engine will remain the same turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder as the GS-6. Karma now claims torque will sit at 708 pound-feet, versus 550 pound-feet in the last example we drove, with the zero-to-60-mph time dipping below four seconds. Total range for the rear-wheel-drive sedan is 360 miles with the generator running, with the 28.0-kWh battery—likely the same unit that gave 24.6-kWh of usable capacity back in 2021—providing 65 miles of range on its own. The Revero will make its return in the third quarter of next year. More Cool EV Sports CarsKarma had previously been developing a fully electric variant called the GSe-6, but that appears to have been canceled in favor of an all-new electric sedan called the Gyesera. Karma only showed a dark teaser image, but the rear-wheel-drive sedan is targeting a range of greater than 250 miles from its 120.0-kWh battery, likely shared with the Kaveya.While the Gyesera won’t be quite as extreme as the Kaveya, Karma says it will produce 590 horsepower and 693 pound-feet of torque, with 60 mph arriving in under 4.2 seconds and a top speed over 135 mph. The listed dimensions are exactly the same as those for the updated Revero, leading us to wonder how new the Gyesdra will actually be. The 5300-pound curb weight is 257 pounds heavier, and the only detail we current have about the cabin is that it will include an 11.6-inch infotainment screen. Karma said it hopes to launch the Gyesera in the fourth quarter of 2024, with full details coming next year.     Porsche Turbo Models to Get New Badge in Exclusive Turbonite Gray

    Porsche is updating its badging on the Turbo models in its lineup.The iconic badge will be finished in a new gray color called Turbonite, and depending on the model, wheel spokes or inlays in the front fascia will be finished in the same color.The switch comes as Porsche attempts to distinguish Turbo models as a brand of their own.Automakers love to separate out model lines and trim levels as their own sub-brands. Take a look at the next Corvette you see, or the next Bronco. You won’t see any Chevrolet bowties or Ford ovals shouting about who actually builds the iconic vehicles. Now, Porsche is gearing up to do something similar with the capital-T Turbo models in its lineup. PorscheStarting with the 2024 Porsche Panamera that is set to make its debut later this month, Turbo models will differentiate themselves from the lesser vehicles in the lineup with badging finished in a new gray color that the manufacturer calls Turbonite. “We now want to make the Turbo even more visible, and differentiate it more markedly from other derivatives such as the GTS,” said Michael Mauer, Porsche’s chief designer.PorscheThe new crest will be exclusive for Turbo models and swaps the red and gold of the traditional badge for a more muted black and gray. The color won’t be limited to just the front badge either. According to Porsche, the color will make its way onto side window surrounds as well as the lettering on the rear. Depending on the model, other details like wheel spokes or inlays in the front fascia will be finished in the same color as well. The color will make its way into the cabin as well, with things like trim strips and belt straps as well as some switchgear will come in Turbonite. According to the manufacturer, the extent of the interior changes is tied to individual models. Knowing Porsche, we’d wager you’ll still be able to option the classic look, should you want it. Current 125cc Pulsar lineup includes OG Pulsar 125 and Pulsar NS125. The latest entrant to this highly competitive segment is Bajaj Pulsar P150. Launch must be nearing as the test mules donned zero camouflage.Bajaj Pulsar P125 spotted testing – Does it make sense?In a rather surprising move, Bajaj replaced Pulsar P150 with Pulsar N150. We say surprising because Bajaj is known to hold on to its motorcycle designs and Pulsar P range debuted in November 2022. For context, design of OG Pulsar is around 15 years old. But what happens to all the dyes, jigs and manufacturing equipment dedicated to making body parts for discontinued Pulsar P150?This is where the new Pulsar test mule comes into play. Bajaj seems to be shifting Pulsar P range from 150cc to 125cc class. Lacklustre sales registered by Pulsar P150 seem to be a primary reason for its discontinuation. 150cc Pulsar buyers sought some beef and brawn that P150 never could never bring to the table.Hence the introduction of Pulsar N150. Now Pulsar P range will re-spawn in 125cc category which makes a lot of sense for Bajaj. We say this because it is 125cc Pulsars, attracting highest footfall in showrooms and they seem to have highest conversion rates as well.Pulsar P125 – Same design as P150Sales charts reflect the same with 125cc Pulsar being Bajaj’s best-seller with 35% of the company’s total sales in September 2023. Price of around Rs. 90,000 (ex-sh) would be logical too.What does the new Pulsar P125 pack?First set of spy shots reveals an overall similar silhouette to Pulsar P150. This test mule shows zero camouflage on it. We would wager that none of the body panels and components from Pulsar P range will be altered.Sleek and slender body, attractive LED headlight assembly with a large projector and a unibrow-type LED DRL signature, extended tank shrouds, clip-on handlebars, an engine cowl, single-piece seat, a conventional grab handle, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a USB port and twin-LED tail lights are some of the highlights.As per componentry, upcoming Bajaj Pulsar P125 will come equipped with RSU telescopic front forks, single disc setup at the front with single-channel ABS, rear drum brake, conventional box-section swingarm, similar 17-inch alloy wheels as P150 and the same 124cc single-cylinder engine.Speaking of engine, it will develop around 11 bhp of peak power and 11 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Fuel efficiency is likely to be around 50 km/l. Primary rivals are TVS Raider 125, Honda SP 125 and Hero’s Glamour XTEC and rumoured Xtreme 125, along with Bajaj’s own OG Pulsar 125 and Pulsar NS125. But the company continues to be on the offensive by launching new products and features at regular intervals. As part of that plan, Hero will soon launch the Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 scooters.Hero Xoom 125R, Xoom 160 detailed in TVCHero Xoom 125R will primarily take on TVS Ntorq. The scooter has a distinctive profile and not a copy of Xoom 110cc. It is probably being positioned as the sportiest scooter in 125cc segment. To make it work, an entirely new design format has been used. Some of the key features include a majestic, multi-layered front fascia, full-width headlamp, eye-catchy handlebar cowl, wide shoulders, muscular side panels and sporty upswept exhaust.With 14-inch wheels, the scooter has a tall profile and can easily tackle rough road conditions. The maxi scooter is designed as a versatile machine that’s good for urban streets as well as some mild off-road explorations beyond city limits. Some of the key highlights include a signature front beak, dual headlamp setup, large windscreen, sharp body panelling and upswept exhaust. There’s a dedicated rear rack for a top box. With its aggressive design, Hero has chosen to call it a ‘SUV of 2-wheelers’. Xoom 160 will primarily rival the likes of Yamaha Aerox 155 and Aprilia SXR 160.Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 specs, performanceHero Xoom 125R will be using a slightly detuned version of the 125cc engine in use with Maestro Edge 125 and Destini 125. Onboard the Xoom 125R, the air cooled, single-cylinder engine churns out 9.37 bhp of max power and 10.14 Nm of peak torque. Xoom 160 has a 156cc liquid cooled engine. It is different from the engine currently in use with Hero Xtreme 160R 4V. Power and torque numbers of the new engine are yet to be revealed. The scooter will have i3S and ABS.Both Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 will have digital instrumentation. A range of connectivity features will be available via Hero Connect App. It will include geofencing, live tracking, remote immobilization, battery removal alert, location sharing, accident and topple alert, speed alert and SOS alert (panic button). Other possibilities include vehicle diagnostics, roadside assistance, booking a service and trip analysis.In addition to the domestic market, Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 will also be introduced across overseas locations. Hero has stepped up focus on exports, which is expected to get a boost with truly global products like Xoom 125R and Xoom 160. Launch in India is expected in the first or second quarter of CY2024.     Polestar 5, a Flagship EV Due in 2025, Revealed in Production Form

    Polestar revealed the production version of the Polestar 5 at a recent event.It looks much like the Precept concept but now has production-ready details.The new EV will start production in 2025.It started life as the Polestar Precept concept, but it now appears the upcoming Polestar 5 is getting ready for the road in a real way. At its recent Polestar Day event, Volvo’s EV spinoff showed a totally undisguised, production version of the Polestar 5 replete with details such as side mirrors, more realistic-looking headlights and taillights, and reasonably sized wheels and tires.Like the recently revealed Polestar 4, the 5 appears to not have a rear window. While this might sound like a nightmare for visibility, Polestar assures us that it will overcompensate with various cameras, sensors, and a digital rearview mirror. We’re curious to see how it plays out in the real world once we get a chance to drive these new windowless Polestar models.Elana Scherr|Car and DriverBased on what Polestar previously divulged about the 5, we expect this range-topping model to be a sporty and powerful competitor to the Porsche Taycan. Polestar promises a dual-motor setup with 884 horsepower and a 103.0-kWh battery pack that should provide at least 300 miles of range.     Volvo EM90 Is a RWD Electric Minivan with a First-Class Cabin

    Volvo has revealed its first minivan, the EM90, targeted at the Chinese market.The EM90 packs a single electric motor on the rear axle producing 268 hp, while the 116.0-kWh battery provides a 459-mile range on China’s test cycle.The cabin seats six in luxury, with a 21-speaker sound system and screens galore.It’s a bit odd that it took this long for Volvo, purveyors of automotive boxiness, to dabble with the rectangular, family-friendly minivan layout. The new Volvo EM90 leverages the Swedish automaker’s position under the Geely corporate umbrella, sharing a platform and powertrain with the electric China-only Zeekr 009 while replacing that car’s brutalist look with a smoother, more tranquil design and, of course, a focus on safety.The EM90 has a chunky resemblance to its Zeekr cousin but features subtler details. Volvo’s customary “Thor’s hammer” headlights sit high and wide, presiding over a large flat face decorated with ornate LEDs and an illuminated Volvo logo. The rear features vertically oriented taillights and a full-width light bar that includes a lit-up Volvo script, and the EM90 rides on 19- or 20-inch wheels.Volvo describes the EM90 as a “comfortable living room on the move,” so don’t expect nimble handling. Unlike the dual-motor 536-hp Zeekr, the EM90 makes do with just one rear-mounted electric motor producing 268 horsepower. This will see the rear-wheel-drive minivan dawdle to 62 mph in a claimed 8.3 seconds, versus the Zeekr’s 4.5-second dash. The Volvo packs a 116.0-kWh battery also found in the Zeekr, although the 009 can be upgraded to a 140.0-kWh unit. Volvo claims a 459-mile range on China’s test cycle, an improvement on the Zeekr’s 436-mile rating. Volvo claims the EM90 can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in less than half an hour and the battery can be used to provide juice to other cars and electronic accessories.Ultimately, the EM90 is all about the lounge-like, six-seat cabin. The rear captain’s chairs look especially plush and feature fold-out tables, and the overall design is light and airy. The dashboard, doors, and front seatbacks are finished in birch wood panels with an intricate, backlit design and the shifter is made from Orrefors crystal.A 15.6-inch entertainment screen hangs from the ceiling, supporting a variety of third-party apps and featuring a camera for video calls, while a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system takes care of audio duties. Meanwhile, the driver receives a 15.4-inch infotainment screen and a small display behind the steering wheel, while rear-seat passengers use screens on the doors to control certain functions.Volvo touts the EM90’s sound isolation, with features including noise cancellation technology, specially designed tires, and a dual-chamber air suspension. The panoramic glass roof includes a curtain, while ambient lighting sets the mood with options that are inspired by the Northern lights, Swedish forests, or “the dawn of Midsummer.”Although the EM90 shares a platform with the Zeekr 009, Volvo still aims to incorporate its safety-first mindset. Volvo says a strong structure made of steel and aluminum protects the battery and passengers, while an array of radar and ultrasonic sensors and cameras allow for advanced driver-assistance features.Volvo says that the EM90 is “coming first to China,” unsurprising given the popularity of luxury minivans there. But curiously the statement leaves open the possibility of export, although we’d be surprised to see the EM90 reach U.S. shores. If it does, don’t expect it to arrive for several years.
