    2021 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT Debuts – India Launch Likely In 2021

    2021 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT
2021 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT mid-segment ADV has been in Australia ahead of India launch next year

Suzuki Motorcycles has launched its mid-segment Adventure motorcycle V-Strom 650 XT in Australia in its latest avatar. Barring a few minor cosmetics and the emission update, nothing major has been changed in the new V-Strom 650 XT. Visually the bike remains identical to its predecessor except for new colour options.
The adventure tourer now gets three new colour schemes to choose from. These include a full-black paint with a red beak, white colour with gold rims on wheels and silver paint with blue rims and highlights. Visually the bike remains the same as its outgoing model.

    BS6 Powertrain Details
A major update has been rendered to its powertrain as it complies with the latest Euro-5 emission norms. This makes its path clear for an India launch as Euro-5 norms are equivalent to BS6 standards in India.
It still draws its power from a 645cc, liquid-cooled, V-Twin motor that produces an output of 70 bhp at 8,800 rpm and 62Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. These figures are almost identical to its predecessor.

This unit is paired to a six-speed gearbox. The latest iteration of the ADV is also equipped with Suzuki’s Low RPM to assist system that essentially minimises engine stalling by automatically tuning the idle speed at low revs.
    Hardware
Dynamics of the ADV also remain identical to the outgoing model. It rolls on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels wrapped in tubeless Bridgestone Battlax Adventure A40 tires. Suspension duties are carried out by 43mm telescopic forks at front and link-type preload adjustable monoshock at rear.

Anchoring duties are relied on twin 320mm discs at front with twin-piston calipers and a single 260mm disc at rear with a single-piston caliper. It weighs an identical 216 kg in its latest iteration.
    Design & Features
It features an eye-grabbing styling that features a stepped-up seat, a sloping fuel tank with extensions, a raised transparent windscreen and an upswept windscreen. In terms of equipment, it receives a semi-digital instrument console, a smartphone charger, an all-LED lighting setup, a plastic sump guard and handguards.

It also gets a 12-V DC accessory power outlet. Apart from these, it also receives a bunch of electronics such as dual-channel ABS, three-stage switchable traction control as standard.
In Australia, the new V-Strom 650 XT has been pegged at a price of AUD 13,490 which is equivalent to Rs 7.32 lakh in Indian currency. When launched in India, it is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 7.60 lakh (ex-showroom, India) which is Rs 25,000 costlier than the outgoing model. It is expected to be launched in India early next year. More

Rivian R1T Electric Pickup Starts at $75,000, R1S SUV Slightly Higher

The Rivian R1T electric pickup Launch Edition will be priced starting at $75,000, with the R1S Launch Edition SUV to start at $77,500.
Both Launch Editions will offer 300-plus miles of range, Rivian said, although an optional 400-mile battery pack for the R1T will be out in January 2022.
Deliveries start in June 2021 for the R1T and in August for the R1S, while lower-cost trim levels with less range will be coming in January 2022.
While Rivian’s R1T electric pickup has made the auto show rounds and even transported the support crew for Ewan McGregor’s Long Way Up TV show, we only had an estimate of the truck’s starting price. Now Rivian has announced initial pricing for its upcoming electric pickup and SUV, starting with Launch Edition models that will offer 300-plus miles of range.

The Launch Edition models get a premium Adventure package that includes a panoramic all-glass roof, 4G Wi-Fi capability for over-the-air updates, and a 1000-lumen flashlight in the driver’s door. In keeping with the “Adventure” name, it also includes an Off-Road Upgrade package with a powered tonneau cover (for the R1T), an onboard air compressor, and a reinforced underbody shield.
All Rivian vehicles will get Driver+, a hands-free driver-assist suite, at no extra cost; it will let the vehicle “automatically steer, adjust speed, and change lanes on your command,” Rivian said, although the company emphasized it requires the driver’s full attention at all times.
Slightly more affordable R1T and R1S Explore models feature a manual tonneau cover (on the R1T) and matte black cabin trim. These will start reaching customers in January 2022, with a starting price of $67,500 for the pickup and $70,000 for the SUV, and the same 300-plus-mile claimed range.
Another feature available in January 2022 will be a 400-mile battery pack for the R1T. At that same time, a lower-priced R1S and R1T with a 250-plus-mile battery pack will be coming.

Honda CB350 Owner Test Rides The New Meteor 350 – First Impressions

    Image – Abhinav Bhatt
Creator of some of the most viewed videos on Honda CB350, has shared his first impressions about the Meteor 350

After posting a series of videos on Honda H’ness CB350, YouTuber Abhinav Bhatt has now got his hands on a brand new Royal Enfield Meteor 350. He will be reviewing the motorcycle in the coming days and compare it with CB350. The idea is to share key insights that will be helpful to users.
Patiala to Delhi on Meteor 350
The Meteor 350 used in this review is the top-spec Supernova variant in Blue colour. It belongs to one of Abhinav’s friend, who owns multiple Royal Enfield dealerships in Patiala, Punjab. The motorcycle has been given to Abhinav for around a week’s time, so that he can test it extensively just like he did with Honda CB350.
Before starting the journey, the YouTuber provides his first impressions about the motorcycle. Meteor 350 has a low seat height, which would be useful in both city traffic as well as long distance touring. The motorcycle comes with barrel style grips and angled levers, both of which are quite comfortable. The overall comfort level is also enhanced with the sweptback handle bars.
The instrument pod looks clutter free and information displayed is clearly visible. It displays a range of information such as odometer / tripmeter, low fuel indicator, low battery, gear indicator, ABS, and left & right turn indictors. However, it does not show fuel economy and available range, which can be accessed on Honda CB350.
    [embedded content]
How to use Meteor 350’s ‘tripper’ navigation system is also shown in this review. One just needs to download the Royal Enfield App and follow on-screen instructions to connect their mobile phone with the tripper screen display unit. Once connected, users need to enter the details of their journey. The on-board navigation display comes handy when a user does not have a mobile holder.
The motorcycle has been equipped with some accessories such as exhaust add-on and crash guard. There are several other official accessories offered with Meteor 350. This makes it easier to customize the ride, as per your specific tastes and preferences.
    Meteor 350 first ride
According to Abhinav, Meteor 350 is almost completely devoid of vibrations. This is quite similar to that of Honda CB350. The seat has an ergonomic bucket design and the cushioning is also quite comfortable. The suspension is softer than CB350, something that is helpful when negotiating bumps on the road. The throttle response is pretty good and the engine delivers tractable power with good torque spread. Abhinav also seems impressed with the throaty exhaust note of Meteor 350.
Abhinav will be posting more videos on Meteor 350 in the coming days. The info can be useful to folks who may be planning to buy a 350 cc cruiser motorcycle. More

Meyers Manx Company Sold, Designer Freeman Thomas Is New CEO

The 56-year-old Meyers Manx dune-buggy company has been sold.
Designer Freeman Thomas, who brought you the VW New Beetle, Audi TT, and a long list of VW, Audi, Porsche, Ford, and Chrysler products, is the new CEO and chief creative officer.
The company plans to continue building the buggies on Volkswagen chassis but will move into battery-electric power.
Bruce Meyers, designer, surfer, artist, and creator of the very first Meyers Manx in 1964, the vehicle that inspired the Dune Buggy craze, has sold the company he started more than 50 years ago.
Meyers, 94, along with his wife, Winnie, sold the company to Trousdale Ventures. The announcement was officially made by the new company chairman, Phillip Sarofim. Sarofim is a venture capitalist, car collector, and racer with a passion for cool cars. Sarofim named former VW, Audi, and Porsche designer Freeman Thomas as CEO and chief creative officer. Our friends at Autoweek called Thomas at home soon after the announcement.
“I have a lot of reverence for what Bruce created,” he said. “It transcends being this four-wheeled thing. It’s a pop-culture icon.”

A couple of Meyers Manx dune biggies parked at Bruce Meyers’s 90th-birthday bash four years ago.
    Mark Vaughn

The new company will be headquartered in a purpose-built building in the beach city of Oceanside, California, and staffed with an international roster of designers, fabricators, and builders.

VW’s I.D. Buggy Owes Much to the ’60s Meyers Manx

    Meyers Manx Tested

“We are putting together an international dream team of passionate and creative souls to carry on the Meyers Manx legacy of fun, freedom, and expression that Bruce and Winnie created,” Sarofim said in a statement. “The time is right for us all to get back to basics and simplify our lives! That is what Meyers Manx is all about!”
Those exclamation marks are his, but it seems everyone is happy about this development. Meyers has been making Manx kits since that first one, called Old Red, in 1964. He and wife Winnie are said to be delighted with this new development.
“It is with great pleasure and happiness that Winnie and I would like to introduce you to the new future of Meyers Manx,” the couple said in the same company statement. “Maintaining the old and introducing the new is what lies ahead. We feel that Meyers Manx LLC can and will do just that! With faith in their desire to continue our legacy, the future will be brighter, happier, sunnier than ever, a wonderful rebirth for what we have created!”
Without getting specific, Thomas said there are definite products afoot, including some with battery-electric power.
“I do have a lot of ideas,” the former VW, Audi and Porsche designer said.
The products will be built on Volkswagen chassis, just like the originals. That will make the creations affordable to a wide audience, or “accessible,” as Thomas said, but it will also get the company around cumbersome and expensive federal safety standards.
“At same time we are very conscious about safety and we are going to make the safest car we can make,” Thomas said.
Whatever the new company makes, it will be identifiable as a Meyers Manx.
“Part of it is processing the DNA so that whatever you come up with is going to be authentic using the best processes we have,” Thomas said.
Looking forward to seeing what that is.

2022 BMW iX Electric Crossover Will Offer 500 HP, 300-Mile Range

BMW’s first electric SUV, the 2022 iX, will pair striking looks (including that angry-squirrel grille from the new 4-series) and ambitious performance numbers.
Its overall size is very similar to the BMW X5, although we expect it to be heavier than internal-combustion-engined stablemates.
The new iX goes on sale in the United States in early 2022.
It has been a while since BMW was an electric pioneer. The launch of the carbon-bodied i3 in 2013 was so far ahead of the curve, it was practically in another race. But in more recent years BMW pretty much stepped out of the competition, watching from the sidelines as rivals launched brawnier and longer-range EVs. That is set to end with the forthcoming iX, seen here for the first time, and due to reach the U.S. in 2022—an SUV that is set to combine an output of around 500 horsepower with a targeted range of 300 miles on the EPA’s FTP-75 test procedure.
Anyone eagerly awaiting the specifics of the electric powertrain is set to be disappointed, with BMW having only released very limited details. We’re told the iX will use two electric motors—one driving each axle—and have a zero-to-62-mph time of under five seconds. We’re also told to expect a total system output of around 500 horsepower.

    View Photos

    BMW

Based on a visit to BMW’s development center in Munich in 2018, we can add some to that. Like the brand’s other electrified models, the iX will use the compact water-cooled externally excited synchronous motors that BMW has developed and will build itself. Although we don’t have specifics on the battery pack, we know it will be mounted underfloor and use rectangular cells and an actively cooled bottom plate; BMW says we should expect the iX’s headline capacity to be over 100.0 kWh. It will also support DC fast charging at rates of up to 200 kW. In the unlikely event of finding a charger capable of delivering that, the iX can be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in under 40 minutes. BMW says an 11-kW charger will be able to fully charge the battery from empty in around 11 hours.

    BMW to Offer Full-Electric X1, 5-series

Mercedes EQS Electric Luxury Sedan Coming to U.S.

Design is certainly striking. Anyone hoping that the angry-squirrel grille of the 4-series would be a one-off, or downplayed in subsequent models, is set to be disappointed. The iX has a similarly visually aggressive front-end profile despite the lack of a requirement to cool a combustion engine. Instead the grille contains camera, radar and an array of other sensors. The official line is that the iX combines “the functionality of the BMW X5 with the sporting nature of the X6 and the visual impact of the X7.” We’ll leave you to decide whether that is a good thing.
    How It Sizes Up
BMW says that overall length and width are similar to the dimensions of the X5—so around 194 inches and 79 inches respectively, and that height is close to the 66.8-inch X6. We do have a definitive wheelbase figure—118 inches—0.9 inch longer than the X5. Doors feature deployable handles that sit flush with the body when the car is locked or moving, like the Range Rover Velar and the new Mercedes S-Class. The doors themselves are frameless. At the rear is a wraparound tailgate reminiscent of the Audi Q7, with diffuser elements in the bumper where you’d normally find exhaust tailpipes. The reversing camera lens is hidden in the binnacle of the BMW roundel, an example of what the company describes as “shy tech”—features that stay hidden until called into use. Full LED lighting will be standard, with adaptive Laserlight units an option.
The iX lacks the i3’s core carbon-fiber structure, being built around the CLAR (natively rear-driven) version of BMW’s fifth-generation architecture and an aluminum spaceframe. Like the 7-series it will incorporate parts made from carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, including the cowl panel and rear window frame. There is no official word on mass, but we aren’t expecting something so large and carrying so much battery power to be a lightweight; while it should be lighter than the 5843-pound Audi e-tron we are still expecting it to be substantially porkier than its combustion-engined sisters. BMW is proud of the iX’s 0.25 drag coefficient, and says the low aerodynamic profile—helped by active flaps—has added around 40 miles to the car’s range under the more optimistic European WLTP testing protocol.

    View Photos

    BMW

    Inside
The iX’s interior has a much more minimalist aesthetic than we have seen in other BMWs, having been designed to maximise space and with controls pared back and a central 14.9-inch curved touchscreen display the primary user interface; this joins seamlessly to the 12.3-inch digital instrument screen. Between the seats there is still a turn-and-click iDrive controller and also a rocker switch that takes the place of a conventional transmission shifter. The iX will also offer a head-up display to project data onto the inside of the screen plus the option of a 1615 Watt ‘4D’ Bowers & Wilkins audio system incorporating bass-enhancing ‘shakers’ in the front seat, similar to the system Mercedes has just introduced in the new S-Class.
One thing missing from the official release is definitive word on the iX’s self-driving capabilities. In 2018 BMW’s then-chairman Harald Kruger promised that this car would be launched capable of what he termed Level 3.5 autonomy, meaning eyes-off operation. We hope to hear more about that ahead of sales beginning in the U.S. in early 2022.
There is no word on pricing yet, either, or whether BMW will also offer the iX in less powerful forms, or a cheaper version with a less potent battery as it is planning to do in Europe. Based on the potency of its preliminary numbers, we are expecting the full-strength version to carry a premium over the Mercedes EQC and Audi e-tron.
