in Motor NewsUnlike most of the challenges we face as Window Shoppers, this week’s contest has less to do with cars than it does what powers them. We set out to find the most iconic engines, engines that helped define a brand, made a mark in history, or were just spectacular. The car is important, but the engine is king. If you watch, you may wonder why no one chose a Chevy small-block V-8 or a Mopar Hemi. That’s a fair question, and the answer is that each of us incorrectly assumed someone else would pick them.
Instead, we presented slightly less obvious choices. Contributing editor Brett Berk found a sedan with the engine from the 1950s Mercedes-Benz 300SL. Deputy testing director K.C. Colwell also found a transplant job, selecting a four-door with the heart of an Audi R8. Contributor Jonathon Ramsey decided that infamy could make an engine iconic and put up a 2011 Volkswagen diesel for judgement. And we couldn’t argue with that logic, particularly when you consider how far-reaching the media coverage and consequences of Dieselgate were.In addition to engines, we discuss car phones, German chancellors, the ideal buyer for a car with fold-flat front seats, Ford Aerostar crash-test results, and things that can go wrong on the last of Porsche’s air-cooled flat-sixes. We even dig into why Colwell hates sunroofs. Clearly, this episode goes off the rails, but you’re used to that by now, right?

in Electric CarsSingham Electric Rickshaw
The new Li-Ion e-rickshaw is available at all company dealerships priced at Rs.1,85,000
Rising concerns over the degradation of the environment coupled with deteriorating air quality levels has given rise to demand for electric vehicles in India. New laws have come into effect to conserve energy and protect the environment through the use of fossil fuel powered vehicles.
U.P Telelinks Limited, a leading manufacturer of electric rickshaws, with manufacturing facilities in Ghaziabad and Rudrapur, has introduced a new model called Singham Li-ion. This auto styled e-rickshaw is priced at Rs.1,85,000 and buyers will be eligible for subsidy of Rs.37,000 under the FAME II scheme of the Government of India.
Features and Design
The new Li-ion e-rickshaw comes in with an attractive design and outstanding features and comes in with a 3 year warranty period. It gets LED lights, an advanced BMS and a powerful 1,500 watt motor. This lithium battery offers mileage of 100 kms per charge.
Offered on sale via all of Singham dealerships, the company has also tied up with several private and public finance agencies for easy finance facilities to its buyers. The company claims to have received over 300 pre-orders and deliveries are slated to commence from 15th December 2020.
Running Costs
New Singham Electric Rickshaw measures 2,575mm in length, 1,740mm in height and 998mm in width while wheelbase measures 2,180mm. It receives a front glass with wiper, a spare wheel and hard stepney cover and rides on alloy wheels fitted with 3.75-12 tyres.
The interiors get curtains along with floor mat, FM player with USB and SD card and an anti theft alarm system. It gets cabin lights and comfortable die cut seats. The e-rickshaw offers a range of 100 kms per charge relating to running costs of 30 paise per km and thereby offering savings of over 20 percent. The LED lighting not only uses less power but looks attractive while equitable weight distribution among wheels offers improved balance and heavy duty suspensions offer a comfortable ride.
Power to the Singham Power Li-ion e-rickshaw is via a high efficiency brushless DC motor 1.5 kW power and 48V voltage. Suspension and braking is through telescopic hydraulic suspension 43” at the rear and lever operated drum brake in the front and foot pedal operated drum brake at the rear.
Along with the Li-ion e-rickshaw the company is also launching three cargo variants of the Power Li-ion – Flat Bed, delivery Van and Cargo Van, each of which are designed to cater to the different delivery demands of buyers. in Motor NewsHere Comes the Sun
As we’re writing this, the FDA seems likely to approve a coronavirus vaccine, and Ford isn’t taking any chances when it comes to distribution. The company announced last month that it had purchased 12 ultra-cold freezers capable of storing Pfizer’s thermophobic vaccine. It’s the first step in a plan to eventually distribute the vaccine to workers (yes, this news is a little old, but we missed it in the Thanksgiving lull ). Conspiracy theorists stand down: the company said the shots would be available on a strictly voluntary basis.

Cadillac
Cadillac gave us the tiniest tease of the 2022 CT5-V and CT4-V Blackwing when it released a single photo of the manual shift knob. We look forward to more meaningful revelations in the lead-up to the cars going on sale in summer 2021.
Leaked photos of a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander reveal a blockier exterior design that is mostly normal except for a totally unhinged front grille/fog light layout. We suspect the new car will share a platform and powertrain with the Nissan Rogue.
Toyota announced it would show us a Europe-bound electric crossover early next year, with a separate EV headed for the United States later. Perhaps those first EVs will bear some resemblance to the camouflaged Lexuses we got a glimpse of two days after the EVs were first announced?
Honda answered our prayers when it confirmed that the 11th-generation Civic Type R will be available in the United States, that it will still come standard with a manual transmission, and that, based on all current evidence, it will finally look like a car an adult would drive.

Ford knows we’re waiting impatiently for the next generation of the F-150 Raptor, so they announced an off-road Tremor package for the F-series trucks to tide us over. The package will provide an upgraded suspension, a rear locking differential, and a transfer case borrowed from the current Raptor.
Catastrophic Failure
If you haven’t been keeping up with the news of the capsized Golden Ray cargo ship, don’t deprive yourself any longer. The ship capsized last fall and, after a series of delays, is now being slowly and fascinatingly dismantled off the coast of Georgia. The cargo ship was carrying thousands of vehicles from Mexico to various ports in the US when it rolled over in the St. Simons Sound. Now there’s reason to believe that when a load of compact crossovers was swapped for taller, heavier Kia Tellurides, the balance of the cargo was upset. When the ship made a sharp turn out to sea, disaster struck. Et tu, Kia?

The Life-Changing Magic of Giving Up
Uber, still suffering a huge ridership loss due to the ongoing pandemic, is moving on from some dreams. On Monday, the company announced that it is handing over its self-driving arm to Aurora Innovation, an autonomous driving start-up. On Tuesday, Uber gave its flying car unit to start-up Joby Aviation. Details on the deals are slim, but reporting suggests that neither company paid Uber, but that the company will work in partnership with each start-up to continue developing the technologies while taking some pressure off a suffering bottom line.

in BikeKTM 390 Adventure Spoked Wheels
KTM 390 Adventure shares its mechanicals with 390 Duke while 250 ADV shares with Duke 250
KTM 390 Adventure is one of the best selling adventure motorcycle in India. Not only does it offer an implanted ride both on and off-road, but it also provides loads of gizmos making it a technologically enhanced bike. However, it is also one it priciest in its segment and bad news is that it just got a tad more expensive.
Price Hike
The Austrian bikemaker has hiked the prices of its ADV by Rs 1,878. Following the latest price hike, 390 Adventure now costs Rs 3,05,878 as opposed to previously priced Rs 3,04,000 (both prices are ex-showroom). The marginal price hike does not bring any significant change to the bike.
What is good news is that, there is a more affordable adventure motorcycle from KTM in town. New KTM 250 Adv has just been launched in India, at a starting price of Rs 2.48 lakh – making it Rs 60k cheaper than the 390 ADV. In addition, there is now a new package on offer with the KTM ADVs.
New package on offer
While the KTM Advs are decently capable to take on the undulated paths, it surely isn’t meant for hardcore trail-bashing and a major reason for this are its alloy wheels. But for all those adventure seeking enthusiasts, the company is now offering a special package which includes a pair of spoked wheels. Available under KTM’s Powerparts catalogue, price of this package hasn’t been announced yet.
Spoked Wheels for KTM 390 Adventure and 250 Adventure
This spoke wheels kit offers all additional components required to convert stock alloy wheels into spoke wheels. Inclusion of spoked rims accentuates the 250 and 390 Adventure’s off-roading prowess by offering better balance and stiffness thus instilling more confidence riding off-tarmac.
Along with spoked rims, it includes both front and rear discs and a sprocket in order to increase the bike’s bottom-end performance. Size of the sprocket hasn’t yet been specified though.
Features & Specifications
390 Adventure is built on a lightweight steel Trellis frame which is assisted by 43mm inverted telescopic forks at front with a travel of 170mm and a mono-shock unit at rear end with a travel of 177mm. It offers disc brakes on both ends assisted by a dual-channel ABS. It offers knobby tyres and a high ground clearance of 200mm both of which are critical for off-roading.
The bike is packed with first in class electronic aids such as off-road ABS for better steering control, cornering ABS, multiple ride modes, ride-by-wire and an ECU that offers functionalities such as lean-angle sensitive Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC). It also gets a quick shifter for smoother gear shifts. Apart from these, it offers a Bluetooth-enabled TFT colour display that is compatible with KTM My Ride smartphone connectivity which allows one to manage his/her calls, music and also turn-by-turn navigation.
It is powered by a BS6 compliant 373.2cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which generates 42.3hp and 37Nm of peak torque and is paired to a six-speed gearbox. More

in BikeRoyal Enfield 650cc Cruiser Red Colour Render
Ever since the launch of 650 Twins, select customers have been waiting for alloys wheels option
To ensure that customers have access to all options they might wish for, Royal Enfield will soon be launching alloy wheels for its popular 650 twins, Interceptor and Continental GT. The alloy wheels will be offered as an accessory. 650 twins currently utilize spoke wheels, which is one of the key design elements that give the motorcycles their retro flavour.
Testing and validation
In response to an owner of Interceptor 650, Royal Enfield said that they are currently carrying out extensive durability and validation testing for the new cast alloy wheels. Once that is complete and if things progress as per plans, the new alloy wheels could be launched around February 2021.
It is also to be noted here, that the upcoming Royal Enfield 650 Cruiser, which has been spied on test in Chennai, was seen with alloys wheels. Most likely, it is this alloy wheel design, which will also be seen on board the 650 Twins Interceptor and Continental GT. Launch of the Cruiser 650 is scheduled for sometime next year.
Customers wanting the new alloy wheels will be able to select the same via the company’s MiY (Make It Yours) customization platform. It can be done via the company’s website, mobile app or at the dealership. In addition to 650 twins, the personalization platform is also available for Classic 350 and recently launched Meteor 350. Other motorcycles such as Bullet and Himalayan will be included in the online configurator program in the future.

Alloy wheels more practical?
When launched, the new alloy wheels will be shod with tubeless tyres. Many users will find this as a more practical choice, as tubeless tyres don’t need to be taken out in case of a puncture. However, true-blue retro enthusiasts are unlikely to ditch the spoke wheels. Apart from being more elegant, spoke wheels also offer other benefits such as better ability to absorb shocks and vibrations. They are also considered more rugged than alloy wheels.
Earlier, Royal Enfield had done something similar with its top selling Classic 350 motorcycle. As customers would often install aftermarket alloys and exhausts on their Classic 350, Royal Enfield launched its own range of official and legal aftermarket accessories. These included multiple options for exhausts and alloy wheels.
Tripper navigation
In the near future, 650 Twins are also expected to get Tripper navigation that is standard equipment on-board Meteor 350. This is a first-in-segment feature and has been appreciated by several users. With the Tripper system, users don’t need to mount their smartphones on their motorcycle. For 650 twins, a larger version is currently under development. Along with the directions, the updated Tripper system will also display notifications. Meteor’s Tripper system is expected to be introduced in other Royal Enfield motorcycles as well.
Launched in 2018, 650 twins share several components including the engine. The 648-cc, parallel twin cylinder unit is capable of generating 47 bhp of max power and 52 Nm of max torque. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and equipped with a slipper clutch.

in Motor NewsEV startup Bollinger unveiled production-intent images of its electric pickup and SUV.
The largest design changes are the movement of the B-pillar, the switch from two radiators to a single radiator behind the bumper, and more headroom.
The B1 and B2 are slated to start production in late 2021.

Bollinger Unveils All-Electric Commercial Truck
Years before the Cybertruck and Hummer EV appeared, Bollinger was showing off its own vision of electric pickup truck and SUV models. Since then, the automotive startup’s B1 SUV and B2 truck have been making the rounds at auto shows clad in black and generally looking like Lego versions of the electrified future.
Today Bollinger revealed renderings of the production-intent versions of the two EVs. The changes between these and the earlier prototypes are typical for show cars transitioning to production models. And of course, the vehicles in the renderings are white instead of the intimidating black we’ve come to expect from the company.
When asked about the design changes, CEO Robert Bollinger told C/D, “the largest difference is that the entire body has been re-engineered for production. It’s all truly body-on-frame now and optimized for manufacturing.”
The most noticeable changes are to the front fascia and headlights. On the initial prototype, the headlight area also served as an air intake for the dual radiators. Bollinger says due to improved thermal management, it has now placed a single radiator behind the bumper. The result is that the headlights look slightly smaller and less intimidating.
On the side, the B-pillar has been moved forward to make it easier for passengers to enter the vehicles. The vehicles are now two inches taller, resulting in more headroom, and the sliding glass windows have been replaced with regular windows operated with a manual crank. On the B2 truck, the bed is now independent of the cab, which Bollinger says will make commercial chassis cab applications, repairs, and replacement easier. Oh, and the three wipers on the windshield have been replaced with the less awesome but more traditional two-wiper setup.
Bollinger may have made some changes to the design of the vehicles, but the claimed specs remain the same. Both vehicles are targeting 200 miles of range and a powertrain capable of delivering 614 hp and 668 foot-pounds of torque. The starting price for the B1 and B2 is $125,000 and both are said to go into production near the end of 2021.
