Aprilia eSR1 Electric Scooter Name Registered – Launch Expected In 2021

    Image for reference
E-scooter offering from Aprilia is expected to share its technologies and mechanicals with Vespa Elletrica

Piaggio has filed a trademark for its upcoming electric scooter from its Aprilia brand. The Italian two-wheeler manufacturer has registered the trademark ‘eSR1’ at European Union Intellectual Property Office. The latter published a trademark application showing the ‘eSR1’ name in stylised font and logo.
However, the applicant’s name hasn’t been revealed yet although it is indicated to be the Piaggio Group. The evidence being the ‘SR’ portion of trademark which resembles the SR logo in Aprilia brand of scooters.
Furthermore, the eSR logo looks straight out of the books for the logo of SR-GP Replica which was revealed last year. The other major hint given is that the trademark has been registered on Piaggio’s behalf by Jacobacci & Partners S.P.A, the firm which handles all intellectual property matters for the Italian brand. Aprilia currently retails the SR range of scooters in 50cc, 125cc, 150cc and 160cc configurations around the world.
    Aprilia’s e-Scooter plans
It is also being speculated that Aprilia eSR1 will share its powertrain and technology with other Piaggio group of products, specifically Vespa Elettrica which is already on sale in many international markets. Since it is a common practice by Aprilia to share technologies among its sibling brands this shouldn’t come as a surprise. This means Elettrica’s electric motor and batteries could be repackaged for Aprilia eSR1.
Vespa Electric Scooter At 2020 Auto Expo
Trademark filings don’t guarantee a production-spec model launch as they don’t reveal if or when a specific model will arrive at markets. In this case, however, chances are pretty high since electric scooters have been in trend and a global brand like Aprilia will surely garner a lot of attention which is likely to translate into a high consumer base.
If eSR1 borrows its powertrain and technology from Vespa, much of its development would already be complete even though the e-scooter hasn’t yet been revealed in flesh. This means that launch of the new Aprilia scooter could be as early as next year for European markets.
    Vespa Elettrica details
Speaking of specifications, Vespa Elettrica draws its power from a 4kW electric motor paired with a lithium-ion battery pack. Peak torque available at wheels stands at an impressive 200 Nm and provides a range of 100 km in Eco mode and 70 km in Power mode in a single charge. It takes 3.5 hours for the battery to get juiced up using a 220V socket.
Its underpinnings are similar to its petrol-powered counterpart assisted by a trailing link front suspension and single shock absorber at rear. It rolls on 12-inch front and 11-inch rear alloy wheels. The model was showcased at this year’s AutoExpo but there are no signs of its launch in India anytime soon.

Honda Activa 6G, Hornet, CD110 Rs 5k Cashback Offer Dec 2020

    Hamsa Honda
December 2020 offers from Honda Two Wheelers is in the form of cashback on card purchases

It’s no surprise that as the year comes to a close, those awaiting December discounts and offers usually find an end of year purchase to be one that suits the pocket. With the new year almost here, 2021 vehicles but naturally dated as MY21 ones.
As such, the need to sell MY20 stock by 2020 end is a major focus area for manufacturers. And the excitement around such a purchase is fuelled by time bound December deals.
    Honda Two-wheelers cash back offer
Honda two wheelers has curated special offers for a number of its products this month. This comes with 5 percent cashback up to Rs 5,000 on credit card/ debit card EMI. Ease of purchase is outlined with no requirement for a down payment, no documentation, and no hypothecation. The easy process is made possible by the fact that the purchaser already has a verified bank account.
Purchases are obviously defined by bank balance, and/or credit card limit, and quite naturally the purchase amount is converted to EMIs. With multiple finance partners on board, terms and conditions would be applicable as per preferred financier’s guidelines. The above offer is certainly available for the ever popular Honda Activa, and new Hornet, and CD110 Dream Deluxe.
    Honda Activa 6G Cashback
Honda Activa isn’t just a product that’s evolved with vehicle lifecycles, but it has kept toe to toe with everything the larger market offers. So much so, that having led from the front from its first innings, it continues to rule the roost in its latest avatar. The journey has spanned two decades, and only last month the manufacturer launched a special edition to celebrate its 20 glorious years.
Last month, the company reported wholesales at 4,33,206 units, at just under 10 percent growth from 3,96,399 units sold a year earlier. Though not comprehensive, retail sales data provided by FADA puts numbers at 3,80,088, down 17.33 percent from 4,59,774 units in Nov ‘19. And it goes without saying that such numbers are possible only because Honda Activa is an unchallenged bestseller.
    Honda Hornet Cashback Offer
    Q4 2020 Cashback and offers
In essence, the cashback offer is part of the manufacturer’s ‘Super 6’ offer that was on offer until end of November, 2020 as a special bouquet offer to augment festive season sales. That included saving of upto 11k, 100 percent finance with low-interest rates, 50 percent discount on EMI plan, cashback up to Rs 5,000 on a credit card or debit card EMI, or upto 2.5k in benefits for purchases through Paytm.
End of year sales, especially one with a clearly outlined benefit makes sense considering new MY21 vehicles will be costlier, even if marginally. It can be expected that in January 2020, product portfolios across manufacturers will see a price revision on account of various aspects including input costs. As such, knowing the prices will rise, buying a vehicle in the next few days presents a clear monetary benefit from a purchase made in three weeks time.

Audi Design Chief Details 'Project Artemis,' Future Premium Autonomous Vehicle

Audi’s head of design, Marc Lichte, says the upcoming autonomous vehicle that will come out of the automaker’s Project Artemis effort will be a “revolution.”
The vehicle, rumored to be code-named Landjet, will be built on the PPE architecture that will underpin high-end electric vehicles from Audi, Porsche, and Bentley.
It is expected to be unveiled in 2024 and is targeting offerings from Tesla with a focus on long-distance traveling.
We asked Audi design chief Marc Lichte in an interview how the company’s future vehicle designs will evolve thanks to electric powertrains. In response, he shared a few more bits of information about the automaker’s Project Artemis, its effort to build an autonomous vehicle. The upcoming car “will be a revolution,” he said.
The vehicle in question is in a super-high-premium segment, according to the designer, and its use case is long-distance traveling. “We will come up with a radical new concept. This car looks completely different,” Lichte said. At its core, it will be an autonomous vehicle that would remove any need for controls, and that gives the designers at Audi the ability to pursue a new approach to how a car should look.

Hitzinger on Project Artemis, Audi’s Tesla Fighter

Porsche Macan EV Production to Start in 2022

Rumors have circulated that the vehicle being developed under Project Artemis, which is being helmed by former Porsche race-car engineer Alexander Hitzinger, is code-named Landjet. Whatever the internal name, the vehicle is expected to be unveiled in 2024 and will be based on the modular PPE EV architecture developed by Audi to be used in Audi, Porsche, and Bentley vehicles.
Lichte’s comments line up with what we’ve already learned about Project Artemis, the automaker and VW Group’s future weapon to take on Tesla. Volkswagen wants to address Tesla’s EV market dominance and also to have a self-driving car on the road as a competitor to its Autopilot.
The car is currently in progress in Lichte’s design studio. He tells us that Audi will completely change the layout of the interior, while the exterior will be equally different than what we’re used to seeing from the automaker. We’ll look forward to seeing it.

The Most Iconic Engines: Window Shop with Car and Driver

Unlike most of the challenges we face as Window Shoppers, this week’s contest has less to do with cars than it does what powers them. We set out to find the most iconic engines, engines that helped define a brand, made a mark in history, or were just spectacular. The car is important, but the engine is king. If you watch, you may wonder why no one chose a Chevy small-block V-8 or a Mopar Hemi. That’s a fair question, and the answer is that each of us incorrectly assumed someone else would pick them.
Instead, we presented slightly less obvious choices. Contributing editor Brett Berk found a sedan with the engine from the 1950s Mercedes-Benz 300SL. Deputy testing director K.C. Colwell also found a transplant job, selecting a four-door with the heart of an Audi R8. Contributor Jonathon Ramsey decided that infamy could make an engine iconic and put up a 2011 Volkswagen diesel for judgement. And we couldn’t argue with that logic, particularly when you consider how far-reaching the media coverage and consequences of Dieselgate were.In addition to engines, we discuss car phones, German chancellors, the ideal buyer for a car with fold-flat front seats, Ford Aerostar crash-test results, and things that can go wrong on the last of Porsche’s air-cooled flat-sixes. We even dig into why Colwell hates sunroofs. Clearly, this episode goes off the rails, but you’re used to that by now, right?
