Ford Recalling 3 Million 2012–2016 Vehicles over Airbag Danger

Ford will spend about $610 million to recall three million vehicles and replace their driver’s-side airbags after NHTSA ruled it must, Reuters reported.
The problem is the danger that Takata inflators in the airbags could degrade, possibly leading to airbag rupture that could propel metal pieces throughout the vehicle.
The recall will include 2006 through 2012 models of the Ford Edge, Fusion, and Ranger; the Lincoln MKX and MKZ/Zephyr; and the Mercury Milan, as well as about 5800 2007–2009 Mazda B-series pickups.
UPDATE, 1/22/2021: A Ford spokesperson told Car and Driver that the automaker is “working on the recall details and will submit to NHTSA a proposed schedule for the notification of vehicle owners and the launch of a remedy.” Responding to a question about why Ford had earlier disputed the need to issue this recall, the spokesperson explained: “Unlike other Takata passenger-side airbag parts previously under recall, these driver-side airbags contain a moisture-absorbing desiccant and perform differently. We believe our extensive data demonstrated that a safety recall was not warranted for the driver-side airbag. However, we respect NHTSA’s decision and will issue a recall.”
The long-lasting and worldwide problem of defective Takata airbag inflators continues. Ford has just been ordered to recall three million vehicles that contain them. The inflators are in driver’s-side airbags and could rupture, risking metal fragments being propelled throughout the interior of the vehicles.

Takata Airbag Recall: Everything You Need to Know

Ford Joins Honda, Mazda in Takata Airbag Recall

No Recall for 56 Million Cars with Takata Airbags

The vehicles involved are the 2007–2011 Ford Ranger, 2006–2011 Mercury Milan, 2006–2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ/Zephyr, the 2007–2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, and the 2007–2009 Mazda B-series pickup.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earlier this week ordered the automakers to carry out the recall after it rejected a petition from Ford and Mazda to be excused from doing so. Ford and Mazda now have 30 days to make recall plans.
In November, NHTSA also required General Motors to recall nearly six million vehicles over problems with the Takata airbag inflators.
Owners of vehicles that may be affected should check the NHTSA recalls website, which does not yet have details but will soon.

2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan Green, Silver, Black – 3 New Colours Launch Soon

2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan Pine Green
Updated 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan is all set to be launched in India in the coming days

One of the popular adventure-ready motorcycles in the country, Royal Enfield Himalayan will soon be launched in its updated avatar. Himalayan has been witnessing good demand in global markets as well and is currently the second most exported Royal Enfield motorcycle. The updated model could help boost sales further.
    Updated Himalayan design and colours
In terms of design, updated Himalayan will be largely the same as earlier. A few minor changes can be incorporated, for example, a redesign of the metal frame mounted near the fuel tank. In the current model, the frame has been reported to inconvenience some taller riders, as it used to touch the knees.
In the updated variant, the frame looks smaller and more forward-set. This will hopefully address any issues that riders may have faced when riding the current model.
In line with the company’s strategy to increase personalization options for customers, 2021 Himalayan will get new colour options. These are shades of silver, matte black and pine green.
2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan Mirage Silver
It is possible that some existing colours such as solid white may be discontinued. In its current iteration, Himalayan is offered in colour options of Gravel Grey, Sleet Grey, Snow White, Granite Black, Rock Red, and Lake Blue.
Updated Himalayan to get Tripper navigation
One of the most important updates for 2021 Himalayan will be Tripper navigation, which was introduced for the first time with Royal Enfield Meteor 350. A segment-first feature, Tripper navigation is advantageous for users, as it does away with the need to use the mobile screen for turn-by-turn navigation. Tripper navigation system has a dedicated display unit located near the main instrument console, which displays the navigational arrows for the destination.
For using Tripper navigation, users just need to pair it with their smartphone and use the Royal Enfield app to get directions to the destination. It is to note that Tripper display only shows navigational arrows and not calls or messages.
2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan Granite Black
Engine will be the same as the current model, a 411 cc BS6, air cooled, FI unit that is capable of churning out 24.3 bhp of max power and 32 Nm of max torque. It is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox. It was expected that power and torque output may be increased on the updated Himalayan – but that is not going to be the case.
Mechanical parts will be the same as earlier such as the half-duplex split cradle frame, 41 mm telescopic front forks and monoshock with linkage suspension at the rear. Braking duties are performed by 300 mm disc at the front and 240 mm disc at the rear. Himalayan is offered with dual-channel ABS (switchable to single channel).
With the updates, new Himalayan could cost slightly higher. The current model retails in the range of Rs 1.91 lakh to Rs 1.96 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).

    New Honda Activa
Top 10 scooter wholesales for December 2020 reported at 8.16 percent growth

Top 10 scooter wholesales in December 2020 saw Honda Activa top the charts. As usual. The scooter has been in the market for twenty years following regular updates and revisions. This ensures the top seller continues to have just what it takes to make it a top-notch value proposition.
Honda Activa market share in the top order accounted for 44 percent. Sales grew to 1,34,077 units, up from 1,31,899 units at volume gain of 2,178 units. The majority of scooters that made the list reported growth.
Though a smaller manufacturer by volume in India, Suzuki sees its Access 2nd on the list. Market share rose to 13.18 percent following 7.09 percent growth. Unit sales is reported at 40,154 units, up from 37,495 units at volume gain of 2,659 units.
This would certainly be worth a lot for Suzuki since sales in India is important. The country contributes to about 40 percent of the manufacturer’s global two-wheeler business. Suzuki Access scooter forms the core of SMIPL’s business here.
    Top 10 Scooters Dec 2020
Scooter sales growth in December 2020
TVS Jupiter wholesales grew 6.22 percent. Volumes are up at 38,435 units from 36,184 units, up by 2,251 units. Market share is only just lower that Access at 12.62 percent. Next is TVS Ntorq. Wholesales were up by 22.19 percent. Volumes grew to 25,692 units, up from 21,026 units.

    Hero MotoCorp scooter sales
While Hero MotoCorp dominates the market as a top seller, its scooter sales have always been lower than motorcycle sales. And quite noticeably too. Just last month, the manufacturer’s top 2 selling motorcycles reported wholesales of just below 3.5 lakh units.

However, where scooters are concerned, sales is relatively small-ish. It’s highest selling scooter being Pleasure. Wholesales hovered around 19k units. And this was a vast improvement. Compared to a year earlier, growth was reported at 67.59 percent, up from 11,391 units. So, while Hero’s scooter range isn’t small, sales continue to be low.
Yamaha gets on board with Ray. Sales almost doubled. Up at 8,690 units from 4,428 units at 96.25 percent growth. In effect, Yamaha India sales is quite limited. Volumes declined to 6,180 units fro 81,80 units at volume loss of about 2k units.
Hero Destini scooter sales surpassed the 5k unit mark. Growth was reported at 70.87 percent at volume gain of 2.4k units. Wholesales grew to 5,789 units , up from 3,388 units.
