    Jawa 42 In New Colours Of Black, White, Red Launch Soon – Production Starts

    Classic Legends, a fairly new entrant into the Indian motorcycle segment, achieved a major milestone recently. Jawa sales crossed the 50,000 unit mark and what makes this even noteworthy is that this target was reached in precisely 1 year of production.
    The company states that this half century mark would have been achieved much earlier had the lockdown not been announced in March this year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. With production and demand back on track, Jawa is getting ready to launch new colour options of the Jawa 42. Latest images suggest that the production has already started at company plant.

    The existing lineup of Jawa 42 motorcycles will continue as is. In addition to those, the company will launch new range with alloy wheels and blacked out treatment. Gone will be the chrome from this range of Jawa 42. New accessories will also be on offer.
    This is probably something similar to what Royal Enfield had done to the Thunderbird range when they had launched the Thunderbird X. It remains to be seen if this new Jawa range will be given a new name, or will be called same.

    As can be seen in the images, the updated Jawa 42 will be offered in new colour options of White, Matte Black and Matte Red. It will also be offered in currently available colour options. Except for the painted body panels and fuel tank, everything else is in black.
    Prices and Engine Specs
    After the recent price hike, the Jawa and Jawa 42 are currently priced at Rs.1.76 lakhs and Rs.1.63 lakhs respectively for the single ABS variant. Dual ABS costs Rs 1.85 lakh and Rs 1.72 lakh while the Perak carries a price tag of Rs.1.97 lakhs. These are ex-sh prices. Expect the new Jawa 42 range with alloys and black treatment to be expensive by about Rs 5-10k.
    The Jawa and Jawa 42 are powered by the same BS6 compliant 293cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder engine making 26.51hp power and 27.05 Nm torque. The Perak on the other hand gets a more powerful 344cc engine that generates 30 hp power and 32.74 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed gearbox.

    Classic Legends CEO Ashish Singh Joshi is confident of achieving the next 50,000 unit mark in a far less time span. The three bikes are produced at the Mahindra manufacturing unit in Pithampur near Indore in Madhya Pradesh with an annual capacity of 5 lakh units per annum. Exports are also undertaken to countries such as Nepal and Europe even as waiting period in the country extends to a minimum of two months. More

    Royal Enfield will launch the updated 2021 Himalayan today in India

    One of the most popular adventure-ready motorcycles in the country, Royal Enfield Himalayan will be getting a range of updates with the 2021 model. Updated Himalayan has started reaching dealerships and launch is scheduled for today, February 11.
    It is expected to be offered at a starting price of Rs 2.51 lakh (ex-sh.), making is around 20k costlier than its predecessor. Some dealers have started taking unofficial bookings for Himalayan 2021 model.
    2021 Himalayan – what’s new?
    Updated Himalayan gets mild visual enhancements and new colour options. At the front, the headlamp now has a black casing. The windshield is a taller unit, which will be functionally better and also improve the motorcycle’s road presence.
    The front frame located next to the fuel tank has been shortened and moved slightly forward. This change is based on user feedback, wherein some taller riders had complained about the front frame touching their knees.

    Another key update is new tan-coloured seat, which creates a visually appealing contrast. It will be more comfortable as well, as it utilizes high density foam. The motorcycle also gets a blacked-out heat shield for the exhaust. Luggage rack design has been updated and it now looks sturdier than that of the outgoing model. Users can expect to carry more, heavier luggage with updated Himalayan.
    Talking about colour options, updated Himalayan gets three new shades – Pine Green, Granite Black and Mirage Silver. These are in addition to the existing colour options of Lake Blue, Gravel Grey and Rock Red. Features that are the same as earlier include round headlamp and rear-view mirrors, teardrop shaped turn indicators, sculpted fuel tank, upswept exhaust, and slim tail section.
    Tripper navigation
    First introduced with Meteor 350, Tripper navigation will be standard equipment on-board most new / updated Royal Enfield products. Himalayan 2021 model has also been updated with Tripper navigation system. Its primary benefit is that users can get directions on the dedicated screen and will not be required to use their smartphone screen. Tripper system can be used by pairing it with user’s smartphone via Bluetooth.

    There are no changes to the engine or its tuning. The 411cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine is capable of generating 24.3 bhp of max power at 6,500 rpm and 32Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm – 4,500rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.     Apple Maps and Siri Will Combine to Let You Report Problems on the Road

    This spring with the release of iOS 4.5, iPhone users will be able to use Siri and Apple Maps to report road incidents at precise locations using their voice.
    The feature is currently rolling out to iOS beta users.
    It will work both in the Apple Maps app on the iPhone and with Apple CarPlay in a vehicle.

    Coming this spring in iOS 4.5 and rolling out to beta users of iOS right now is a new feature in Apple Maps that allows drivers to tell Siri about road conditions without taking their hands or eyes off the road. Once the report has been logged, the information will be shared with other drivers along that same stretch of road. After an incident has been cleared, Siri can also be used to inform Apple Maps that it’s no longer an issue.
    The new feature will work in both the Apple Maps application on the phone and via CarPlay. Drivers can say “Hey Siri” and share incidents using any of the following phrases:

    For users of the Waze navigation app, these types of alerts along their routes are old hat. What Apple is doing is integrating it directly into its own app so that the incidents can be shared via Siri without the need to interact with the application with anything beyond their voice.

    Stellantis CEO Says Chrysler Will Get U.S.-Market Attention, Not Peugeot

    In a call with media earlier today, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares all but confirmed that there are no longer plans to bring Peugeot back to the U.S.
    Back in 2016, the PSA Group said that it would bring the Peugeot back to the U.S. in the next ten years. Tavares said a lot has changed since then.
    Tavares also suggested that, despite speculation, Chrysler will likely not be cut from the Stellantis brand lineup.
    Since the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and the PSA Group, which includes the Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel and Vauxhall brands, speculation has abounded on whether PSA’s plans to bring Peugeot back to the U.S. would remain in place. In a call with media today, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares all but confirmed that the French brand doesn’t have a future in the U.S.

    “For the time being, I don’t think that is part of the things that we want to prioritize for the next time window,” Tavares said. “I think it’s better that we funnel the talent, the capital, and the engineering capability of our Stellantis company to the existing brands to improve what needs to be improved and to accelerate where we need to accelerate because we already have a very strong presence in this market.”
    Stellantis already has a strong market share in the U.S., as Tavares pointed out, and is prioritizing increasing the market share of Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler, among others that are already here. This is particularly the case for Chrysler, a struggling brand that currently has only the 300 and the Pacifica and Voyager minivans.
    Chrysler’s sales have declined in recent years, from 300,000 sales five years ago down to around 110,000 vehicles in 2020. Such results, combined with the change in ownership, have led to speculation that Chrysler is nearing its end in the U.S., but Tavares suggested that Chrysler was here to stay and will instead be reinvented.
    “We consider that this brand is one of the three historical pillars of Stellantis [Fiat and Peugeot are the other two], and of course we are eager, and I am eager, to give this brand a future,” Tavares said. What that future is, the Stellantis CEO said, depends on what is proposed for the brand.

    Toyota Promises Two New 2022 Electric Models and a Plug-In Hybrid

    Toyota announced today that it will unveil two new EVs this year and will bring them both to the U.S. market in 2022.
    The automaker will also unveil a plug-in hybrid this year that will be available next year.
    The two EVs will be part of a global goal to bring 10 new EVs to market sometime in the early 2020s.
    Today Toyota announced that will be unveiling two EVs for the U.S. market as 2022 models. One of the vehicles will be a crossover, while details of the other are still unknown. Toyota did say that the vehicles are part of a plan to introduce 10 new EVs worldwide in the “early 2020s.” In addition to the EVs, the automaker also plans to unveil a new plug-in hybrid this year that will come to market in 2022.

    While Toyota has been and continues to be bullish about its hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains, it’s also jumping into the EV world with these new vehicles. Toyota North America executive vice president of sales Bob Carter said on a call announcing the news that the automaker wants “to be the Macy’s department store of powertrains.”
    In late December, Toyota announced that it is bringing an electric crossover to the European market, showing the sketch pictured above, and said that it will eventually be available in the U.S. With today’s news, we have a bit more of an idea of the timetable for the release of that vehicle. The automaker is also working on bringing a solid-state-battery-powered vehicle in the early 2020s.
    Toyota’s strategy to continue to bring an assortment of electrified vehicles includes the goal to have 40 percent of all new vehicles be electrified by 2025 and 70 percent of all new vehicles be electrified by 2030.
    While Toyota has been slower than other automakers to embrace EVs on a mass scale, the automaker points to its decades of hybrid vehicles as proof that it has been a champion of reducing emissions for years.

    Mansory revealed on Friday the second iteration of its Le Mansory supercar, sporting all of the same design changes found on the first car revealed last year. There’s a full carbon-fiber body in place of the factory panels and an entirely new fascia with weird eyebrow-like headlights. There’s also a big wing out back, a neat tri-exit exhaust setup, and dual roof scoops. Instead of blue, Le Mansory #2 has been finished in black with red accents. Different? Yes. Better? We’re not so sure.

    The interior is just as customized, with retrimmed panels and seats to match the exterior color palette. Behind the cabin sits a modified version of the GT’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, making a claimed 700 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. Mansory says top speed is 220 mph, a slight bump from the stock GT’s 216 mph.

    If you want a Le Mansory of your own, you’re in luck. Back when the car was first unveiled, Mansory said it would make a total of three examples. While it’s not clear if this second one is up for grabs, we’re sure the third build slot is wide open for anyone with enough dough.     New-Gen Royal Enfield Classic 350 Spied With LED Taillights, Turn Indicators

    Design of the new-gen Royal Enfield Classic 350 is not expected to deviate from the current model

    Royal Enfield is currently beaming with the success of its new cruiser Meteor 350 which launched late last year and had made an instant impression in the minds of bikers. This is just the beginning as the Chennai-based bikemaker is planning to launch its next generation of motorcycles in the coming months.
    A few months back, the company revealed its roadmap ahead as it is planning on launching one bike every quarter for the next seven years. This will start from this year with the launch of new generation Classic 350. The new-gen model of the retro modern motorcycle has been spotted testing on numerous occasions in recent past.
    Recently, test mules of the new-gen Classic 350 were spotted testing again in their production-spec models. As reported in our previous scoops, cosmetic changes on the new-gen model are minimal in order to improve ergonomics since makers want to carry forward the retro appeal of the motorcycle.
    Design & Expected Features
    It features similar design elements to the current model including round halogen headlamps, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, chrome rearview mirrors, chrome-plated exhaust and broad rear fenders. Only notable updates visible in the current set of spy shots are a narrower round-shaped LED taillight and turn indicators which are a first for Classic 350. It is also expected to feature a circular LED DRL around the headlamp.

    The split seats are new and appear to be better cushioned for a more comfortable ride. At rear, it also gets a new grab rail for the pillion which is positioned a little taller for a better reach. Other changes expected to be included are new handlebar grips, switchgears and an updated instrument cluster with a semi-digital display.
    We expect, 2021 Classic 350 to be offered with the new Tripper Navigation system first introduced in Meteor 350 recently. Overall, fit and finish of materials are expected to be a notch higher than the outgoing model.
    New Underpinnings
    As expected, new Classic 350 will share many components with RE’s Meteor 350. For starters, it will be based on the same J platform as the cruiser. It will now be underpinned by a double-cradle chassis instead of a single downtube frame as in the current model. Not much alterations are expected on the new bike’s suspension setup.
    New Engine, Gearbox
    In terms of its powertrain, new 2021 Classic 350 will be powered by an all-new 349cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine which makes an output of 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of peak torque. This is 1 bhp more and 1 Nm less than the outgoing 346cc UCE engine in the current Classic 350. This unit will be paired with a new 5-speed gearbox with fewer moving components in order to reduce friction.
    Upon its launch, it will compete against rivals in the segment including Jawa Forty-Two, Benelli Imperiale and Honda H’Ness Cb350. One can expect the new-gen Classic 350 to launch by June 2021.
