    Toyota X-Prologue Electric Crossover Teased Ahead Of Global Debut

    The Toyota X-Prologue is the first product to be based on the new e-TNGA platform which will spawn fully electric vehicles

    Being the world’s largest automaker, it is in Toyota’s best interest to stay at the forefront of the ongoing crossover revolution. The giant’s e-TNGA (electric – Toyota New Global Architecture) is set to spawn a whole new array of future products and most of them are going to be SUVs, including the X-Prologue which has been teased ahead of its world premiere on March 17.

    The latest teaser not only reveals the name of the crossover but also gives us a glimpse of its unconventional front fascia design. The Toyota X-Prologue sports a unique LED DRL that runs across the width of the car and nestled within it are the 3-part LED headlamp elements.
    Being a fully electric vehicle, the crossover does not require a radiator grille and this gives the designers a free hand in shaping up the front fascia. There is a definitive step in the sheet metal design where a conventional grille would be. We will know more about the design in the coming days.
    The previous teaser suggests that the profile of the crossover is relatively less radical than its front fascia, with a flat roofline and a steeply inclined C-Pillar. There is simply no further detail about the Toyota X-Prologue at this moment.

    Toyota e-TNGA
    Toyota had announced earlier that its e-TNGA modular platform will be spinning out a whole new range of electric vehicles. The lineup will include a mid-size crossover, a large crossover, a compact crossover, a mid-size sedan and a minivan. Some of these products will also have Suzuki, Subaru and Daihatsu derivatives to take advantage of the synergies.
    The modular platform is is flexible enough to adopt different wheelbases and drive configurations (front-, rear- or all-wheel drive). Different battery sizes and motor outputs are also possible, giving Toyota and its collaborates a wide range of options when it comes to body styles and powertrain configurations.
    The Toyota X-Prologue will be the first product to be based on the e-TNGA. While it will have Europe as its primary market, it is expected to be manufactured in Japan at Toyota’s EV-specific factory. So, it is reasonable to expect it to be sold in its home country as well.

    Launch plans in North America and other leading markets in Asia are not clear as of now. With electrification becoming the focus of mobility sector across the world, we expect e-TNGA derivatives to become global models sooner than later.
    It is too early to speculate about the possibility of X-Prologue’s arrival in India. For now, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is focused on maximizing the potential of its product-sharing partnership with Suzuki in the domestic market. More

    Lot of Royal Enfield owners love aftermarket customisation. This has resulted in RE having a dedicated division that looks to tap into all beautifully developed custom motorcycles. The Chennai-based bikemaker even invites designers and modifiers to showcase their skills on a Royal Enfield bike and etch their names in the global motoring world.
    Recently, the company commissioned a custom-built Continental GT 650 race bike made by Crazy Garage in South Korea. It has been personally built by the founder of Crazy Garage, Kim Chi-Hyun, who is renowned for his race-inspired customs and has made a name for himself in the west too.

    His skills caught the attention of Royal Enfield’s head office, who asked him to build this GT 650. Aditya Malaker, who is part of Royal Enfield’s custom program team said that they have been closely watching Crazy Garage for some time now.
    Chin-hyun already has made a custom GT 650 to race but this new bike is a whole new beast altogether. Re-christened ‘GT 650 RS’, this Continental GT 650 is one of the most heavily modified Royal Enfield bikes we have come across.

    Overall styling of GT 650 RS reminds us of the glory days of AMA superbike racing of the 1980s before fairing became the standard norm in motorsport. When Royal Enfield contacted Chin-Hyun, he was asked to build a custom motorcycle that is unique in style and yet keeps the original DNA of Continental GT which is ready to hit the tracks. Apart from the engine, which has seen a fair share of mods itself, it is safe to say none of the components have been carried over from the donor bike.
    Customised Design & Hardware
    All parts are custom-built starting from the handlebar, frame, a single-piece stepped-up seat, etc. It gets custom free-flowing dual exhaust pipes on the same side. Being a track-focused bike, ABS and all extravagant electronics have been removed.
    It gets a simple instrument cluster consisting of a STACK analogue racing tachometer and a Yoshimura digital temperature gauge. A Lithium-ion battery has been used to supply energy to a small halogen headlight, LED taillamp and the starter motor.

    The most significant mod job is the new custom fuel tank which has to be hidden underneath the seat. It has been made from thin-gauge steel and installed on a new fiber-reinforced plastic tail section that has been welded to the modified rear frame.
    It is evident that focus has been laid on functionality instead of looks. Its hardware wears a completely different look with the custom-built frame suspended on Custom 43 USD forks at front and a TTX mono-shock at rear from Öhlins.

    The rear shock absorber is now attached to a single-sided swingarm borrowed from a 90s Honda VFR400R. Anchorage is taken care of by a Brembo system at front consisting of calipers, new rotors and an RCS master cylinder. Custom carbon ducts have been incorporated to keep the discs cool under pressure.
    Powertrain Customisation
    The primary customisation has been made to its heart which comprises new cycle parts such as a hot camshaft, high compression pistons and a heavy-duty clutch. Fueling is managed by a Dynojet Power Commander that compensates for the absence of an airbox. Its oil cooler has been repositioned to the front of the motorcycle in-line with other race-spec bikes.
    All these modifications must have surely amplified the engine’s output quite a notches higher, although exact figures haven’t been revealed. For reference, Continental GT 650 gets a 648cc parallel-twin motor which cranks out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque.

    Piaggio is celebrating 75 years of its existence in global automotive markets by introducing new special edition models of its subsidiary brand of scooters Vespa. The Italian automaker has revealed two special edition variants based on Vespa GTS and Vespa Primavera trims and the series has been named 75th.
    The scooters will be available in both 125cc and 300cc iterations and go on sale this month and will remain on sale only throughout this year. These special edition models feature updated cosmetics which make them unique. Otherwise, they are similar to the regular models.

    Vespa was first launched back in 1946 and the new 75th series model receives a metallic yellow body paint scheme called “Giallo 75th” which is reminiscent of its original colour. Side body panels and front mudguards flaunt the number 75 in a slightly darker shade of the same colour.
    It also gets a special badging on the front glove box displaying the brand’s name and its years of 75 years of existence. The scooters also receive a signature Vespa tie recoloured in opaque pyrite yellow at the front apron.

    The single-piece seat is trimmed in nubuck leather with piping while it rides on grey alloy wheels with a diamond finish. There is plenty of chrome detailing all around the scooter including the badging on rear-view mirrors, front mudguard, exhaust muffler and instrument cluster surround. The GTS trim gets foldaway footpegs which are also embellished.
    Features & Accessories
    In addition, the special edition Vespa also gets a chrome-laced rear luggage rack that houses a large circular leather bag and mimics a spare wheel holder. The bag is also made of nubuck leather and of the same colour as the scooter’s saddle and comes with a quick-release mechanism. In terms of features, both special models in the 75 series are equipped with a 4.3-inch fully digital TFT colour display housing all functions compatible with the Vespa MIA smartphone connectivity system.
    In order to make it a special experience for buyers, each scooter in this special edition range will be offered with a welcome kit which consists of an Italian silk scarf, personalised owners book, a vintage steel Vespa plate and eight collector postcards signifying eight decades of Vespa history. Pisces of these new models haven’t been revealed by the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer as of yet, but we expect more information to be thrown into light, ahead of its international debut which is expected to take place in a month and a half.
    We do hope that Piaggio does give it a thought about bringing the special edition Vespa models to India sometime later this year. Currently, Piaggio retails nine Vespa models in India such as SXL 125, Vespa VXL 125 and Vespa ZX 125 including others. More

    How 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Compares to Escalade, Navigator, GLS, and Others

    The Jeep lineup includes the standard Wagoneer and the more luxurious Grand Wagoneer.
    Jeep’s 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are two flavors of the same vehicle, but their pricing and specs make them more like two separate model lineups. In GM terms, they’re the equivalent of the GMC Yukon Denali and the Cadillac Escalade. In the Ford universe, one of these is a fancy Expedition and the other a Navigator. But for Jeep, Wagoneer is destined to become its own sub-brand, so the more Wagoneers the better. Thus, regular flavor and Grand.

    Why the Original Grand Wagoneer Still Looms Large

    The most basic Wagoneer, a 4×4 Series I (interesting how they cribbed Land Rover’s old naming strategy there) costs $59,995, but there’s a catch: You can’t get one. At least, not yet. For now, the realistic low end of the lineup is the $69,995 Wagoneer Series II, which at that price still doesn’t include four-wheel drive. You want a 4×4, you’re talking $72,995 and the price goes up from there—up to $105,995 for a Grand Wagoneer Series III, with the transition from Wagoneer to Grand Wagoneer happening in the upper $80,000 range. So you can see that the aspirations here are toward the high end. And the Wagoneer, in either form, looks like it has the goods to hang with that crowd.

    The base engine is a 5.7-liter V-8 with the eTorque electric starter-generator, making 392 horsepower and 404 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Wagoneer gets a 6.4-liter V-8 with 471 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. Both are paired with the ZF eight-speed automatic. Neither engine is particularly novel in the context of upper-echelon SUVs, where turbo V-6s, turbo V-8s, and diesels are the coin of the realm, but they do make good power. And a pushrod V-8 soundtrack will certainly fire the wood-paneled Wagoneer nostalgia. But the $100,000 price point brings sophisticated competition like the Mercedes-Benz GLS580 and its 483-hp twin-turbo V-8, and the Land Rover Defender 110, which packs a supercharged 518-hp V-8.

    At its lower price points, the Wagoneer powertrain is more competitive: the base engine makes a little less horsepower than the V-8 in an Infiniti QX80, while the 6.4-liter makes a little more horsepower than the twin-turbo V-6 in the Lincoln Navigator. Fuel economy hasn’t been announced, but we can’t imagine it’ll beat many too many competitors there, given the combination of an estimated three-ton-plus curb weight, big naturally aspirated V-8s, and full-time four-wheel-drive in 4×4 models.
    One place where the Wagoneer powertrain definitely excels is towing: Wagoneers with the 5.7-liter can tow 10,000 pounds, with the 6.4 earning a very slightly lower rating (9860 pounds, thus keeping a lid on gross combined vehicle weight in the heavier 6.4-liter models). Either Wagoneer tow rating beats the Cadillac Escalade (8200-pound max), the QX80 (8500 pounds) and even the Ford Expedition with the heavy-duty trailer towing package (9300 pounds). The Wagoneer will be a happy beast of burden.
    It should also be a beast off-road, particularly in Wagoneer Series III Off-Road trim. That iteration gets all-terrain tires, a two-speed transfer case with low range, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, height-adjustable air suspension (which delivers 10.0 inches of ground clearance), and a full suite of skid plates. That model is $88,665, meaning that it’s significantly more expensive than the $66,095 GMC Yukon AT4—which offers similar equipment—but right about on par with a well-optioned Land Rover Defender 110 X. We smell a comparison test.
    So, how big is this new Jeep? It can be hard to judge a vehicle’s size from photos alone, so let’s frame the Wagoneer in terms of known quantities. With a 123-inch wheelbase and 214.7-inch overall length, the Wagoneer is a little bit longer than an Escalade (120.9 inches vs. 211 inches) but much shorter than the 226.9-inch Escalade ESV. Compared to what we might deem a tidy three-row, the Benz GLS, the Wagoneer is massive: cargo volume for the GLS behind the front seats is 84.7 cubic feet, compared to the Wagoneer’s 116.7 cubic feet. Which is also a few cubes more than you can squeeze into an Escalade. Generally speaking, “a little bigger than an Escalade” is an apt descriptor of the giganto-Jeep. While the Range Rover might entice some Grand Wagoneer buyers (and vice versa), the Jeep’s old foil from the 1980s is, in contemporary form, a much smaller machine.

    Since we haven’t yet driven the Wagoneer, we can’t comment on how it rides or sounds or handles a two-foot-deep mud wallow, but we can point out a few creative features that help distinguish it in a crowded market. For instance, the Grand Wagoneer’s 10.3-inch passenger-side “co-pilot” screen is very cool and will surely soon be copied. Its range-topping McIntosh sound system includes 23 speakers, a 1375-watt amp and a 12-inch subwoofer—and, importantly for audio snobs, the cool blue McIntosh analog needle display. And the dealer experience promises to make owners feel properly sucked-up-to, even after the deal is done: Wagoneer Client Services includes five years of maintenance and 24/7 concierge support. And you won’t buy a Wagoneer from a Jeep salesperson—you’ll deal with a Certified Wagoneer Ambassador who has completed more than 90 hours of training. Since that training no doubt includes learning about the Wagoneer’s history, you might also call these people AMC Ambassadors.
    From what we know so far, the Wagoneer looks like a big lavish brute, with its sights set primarily on the Escalade and Navigator but also ready to take a swing at Range Rover, Benz, and BMW on the high end and Chevy, GMC, and Ford on the lower end. On paper, it looks primed to become an instant favorite. The full-size SUV competitors have enjoyed a Wagoneer-free market since 1991. That’s about to change.

    2022 Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer Are Back as Massive Luxury SUVs

    The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer production models have been revealed, after first being shown in concept form last fall.
    The Wagoneer comes standard with a 5.7-liter V-8 and rear-wheel drive while the Grand Wagoneer uses a 6.4-liter V-8 and comes standard with four-wheel drive and air springs.
    Both new full-size Jeeps will be on sale in the summer starting at $59,995 for the Wagoneer and $88,995 for the Grand Wagoneer.
    Here they are: the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in production form, the way you’ll be able to buy them this summer. We originally saw the Grand Wagoneer, the more luxurious version of the two, as a concept vehicle last fall. Think of the Wagoneer as the Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, or Ford Expedition but better-equipped in base form, and the Grand Wagoneer as the Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator. They’ll also compete with German luxury SUVs including the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS-class. The starting prices sit at $59,995 for the Wagoneer and $88,995 for the Grand Wagoneer, although Jeep says Grand Wagoneers can reach $111,000 fully loaded.

    Jeep now has three new three-row SUVs that’ll be on sale soon: the unibody Grand Cherokee L and the Wagoneer (pictured above in red) and Grand Wagoneer (pictured above in blue), which use a body-on-frame structure similar to that of the Ram 1500, though Jeep says it’s “essentially” a new platform. The major difference is the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer’s independent rear suspension in place of the Ram’s live rear axle. Though these three Jeeps have similar looks and three rows of seats, the Wagoneers—which are identical in size—are 4.0 inches taller, 6.3 inches wider, and 9.8 inches longer than the Grand Cherokee L. They’re also larger than the aforementioned competitors, too, which are all available with longer wheelbases (Suburban, Yukon XL, Expedition Max, Escalade ESV, Navigator L). We think it’s possible that the Wagoneers will get a stretched version, too.

    How Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer Are Different

    Similar Looks to the Concept Vehicle
    Unlike their competitors’ non-luxury and luxury siblings, these two Jeeps are more like twins, and they don’t look much different than the concept we saw last fall. Grand Wagoneers are distinguished by more chrome, unique lower front fascia, a black roof, and the addition of “Grand” on its badging, which features American flags on both models’ fender badges, as well as more equipment. Their seven-slot grilles stretch lower and are more pronounced than the concept’s, and sadly, the cool illuminating grille won’t see production. The LED lights do have a welcome sequence at startup, though, and puddle lamps display “Wagoneer” on the ground. And, unlike the concept, the taillights don’t spread the full width of the rear. These new Jeeps have a commanding presence even if they do look a little awkward from the back.

    The concept sat on a set of massive 24-inch wheels, but only wheels ranging 18 to 22 inches are available on the production models, and they’ll have Wagoneer-scripted center caps. Seven exterior color choices are available for the Wagoneer: Diamond Black, Bright White, Luxury White, Silver Zynith, Baltic Gray, Velvet Red, and River Rock Blue, and the Grand Wagoneer adds Midnight Sky Blue, Rocky Mountain Green, and Ember Red to its palette.

    The Wagoneer starts nearly $10,000 higher than the Chevy Tahoe, although the Jeep is better-equipped in base form than the Chevy, which comes with cloth seats and not as many standard features as the Wagoneer. So, really, it’s more like a GMC Yukon Denali. Nappa leather seats come standard, though Palermo quilted leather is available on the Grand Wagoneer. The two-spoke steering wheel is reminiscent of Wagoneers of old, and it fronts a standard 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster on the Wagoneer or a 12.3-inch screen on the Grand Wagoneer. Like the concept and the Grand Cherokee L, the Wagoneers have a backlit aluminum shift knob with switches for the available terrain modes and ride height settings on either side.

    Wagoneers get a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with Stellantis’s Uconnect 5 infotainment system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, and the Grand Wagoneer’s screens are even bigger. It has a 12.0-inch unit with an additional 10.3-inch touchscreen below that for climate controls (there’s also one for the second row). Even more screens are available, including a 10.3-inch passenger display integrated into the dashboard above the glovebox and 10.1-inch screens for the second-row seatbacks, too. Devices can be plugged in via HDMI and they’ll be able to stream over the onboard Wi-Fi to watch Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube through Amazon Fire TV for Auto. Other available equipment includes a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, McIntosh sound system, cooled center console storage, and a touchpad safe under the front armrest.
    Both models can be had with a second-row bench seat with seating for eight or second-row captain’s chairs with room for seven, and there’s slightly more room in the second row than full-size utes from Ford and GM. They have more third-row legroom, too, though only half an inch more than the Ford, and 6.3 inches more than the Grand Cherokee L.

    Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Wagoneer, although three other drive systems are available. Quadra-Trac I and II are single- and two-speed transfer cases, respectively, and Quadra-Drive II includes the two-speed transfer case and adds an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential. Also available are air springs that can raise the Wagoneers 3.6 inches. Grand Wagoneers come standard with Quadra-Trac II and the air springs. Five terrain modes—auto, sport, rock, snow, and mud/sand—as well as hill-descent control are included with the four-wheel-drive systems.

The Wagoneer is powered by a 5.7-liter V-8 that makes 392 horsepower and 404 pound-feet of torque with a 48-volt belt-driven motor/generator system called eTorque. Grand Wagoneers are equipped with a 6.4-liter V-8 with 471 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque, and Jeep says it will reach 60 mph in 6.0 seconds. Both engines feature cylinder deactivation and are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Wagoneers can tow up to 10,000 pounds, while the Grand Wagoneer is maxed out at 9860 pounds because it weighs a little more.
    Like the Grand Cherokee L, the Wagoneers will eventually be available with hands-free driving, Jeep says. For comparison, the Cadillac Escalade can be equipped with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free tech for $2500. At launch, though, Jeep’s lane-centering and adaptive cruise control technology is available, as well as night vision for animal and pedestrian detection and 360-degree cameras.
    The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will go on sale this summer, though the base $59,995 version won’t arrive until later. Both Jeeps can be had with three levels of varying equipment. Reservations for 12 different available pre-configured models can be placed here with a $500 deposit. A Grand Wagoneer Obsidian edition, which is a blacked-out version with black 22-inch wheels, badging, and interior, will also arrive this summer starting at $100,995.

    2022 Jeep Wagoneer Starts at $60,000, Well below Grand Wagoneer

    The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer has a starting price of $59,995 for the entry-level Series I trim, and reaches $74,995 for the highest trim, Series III. The starting price of the Wagoneer is around $30,000 less than the Grand Wagoneer.
    The Wagoneer comes standard with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive can be had on the Series II and Series III trims for $3000.
    Both the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer are set to reach dealers by the second half of the year, but the Wagoneer, as well as Grand Wagoneer, will only be available in pre-configured models at launch.
    The Grand Wagoneer is back, and with it, the less expensive—yet still luxurious—Wagoneer. For the base trim level, or Series I, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer costs $59,995, and starting prices reach up to $74,995 for Series III trim, the highest trim offered on the Wagoneer. The middle trim, or Series II, costs $69,995. It’s worth mentioning that the Series I is not going to be available at launch, according to Jeep.

    The price of the Wagoneer is boosted by a $2000 destination charge, a steep charge for a vehicle of this type. The Series I is the only trim that comes exclusively with rear-wheel drive. Upgrading from the standard rear-wheel drive to four-wheel drive on the Series II and Series III trims costs $3000.
    Every 2022 Wagoneer has with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that makes 392 horsepower and 404 pound-feet of torque, assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system.     There’s a 10.1-inch infotainment screen up front as well as a 10.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster. The seats are trimmed with nappa leather throughout, and in front they’re 12-way power seats with lumbar support. The Wagoneer can be had with second-row captain’s chairs, but the standard setup is a second-row bench seat to give the SUV seating capacity for eight.
    Initially Jeep is offering the Wagoneer in seven pre-configured models: Series II Standard and Premium, each in a choice of rear- or four-wheel-drive versions; Series III Premium in rear- or four-wheel drive; and Series III Off-Road, four-wheel-drive only. Jeep is not only aware of this, in its goal to compete with the likes of the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Land Rover Range Rover, it’s outfitted the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and its high-end sibling, the 2022 Grand Wagoneer, with the latest technology and more screens than a supervillain’s lair.

    At the core of the 2022 Wagoneer and 2022 Grand Wagoneer tech experiences are screens. In addition to the digital dash cluster (10.3 inches for Wagoneer, 12.3 inches for Grand Wagoneer), there’s the requisite infotainment touchscreen that’s 10.1 inches on the Wagoneer and 12.0 inches on the Grand Wagoneer, housing the latest version of Uconnect 5. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Then the screens start multiplying, especially in the more expensive Grand Wagoneer. Standard on the Grand Wagoneer is an articulating 10.3-inch comfort display that sits below the main infotainment screen. It houses climate and seat controls and is similar to what we’ve seen on the 2021 Audi Q8.

    Jeep continues the display extravaganza with an optional 10.3-inch passenger touchscreen that resides in the dash directly in front of the passenger seat; it’s available on both vehicles. More impressive is that the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be the first vehicles outfitted with Amazon’s Fire TV for Auto with Alexa, which Jeep says gives passengers access to Amazon’s library of thousands of movies, TV shows, and apps.

    For second-row passengers, there is a pair of optional 10.1-inch screens that, like the passenger screen up front, support Amazon Fire TV for Auto. The video on those rear displays can be controlled by the front passenger display so that a parent can keep track of what children are watching in back. On the Grand Cherokee, an additional 10.3-inch comfort display sits between the two second-row seats giving rear passengers control over heating and air conditioning settings.
    Jeep says that the potential combined area of all the screens available on the Grand Wagoneer is 75 inches. Considering how often we stare at screens outside of vehicles, Jeep is definitely on to something with its “give everyone a screen” strategy.

    The Wagoneer comes with 12-way adjustable front seats while the Grand Wagoneer doubles that control with 24-way power seats. Both have memory settings and lumbar support. The more luxury-oriented Grand Wagoneer also includes massage settings.

    Anyone needing to haul groceries or gear should have enough room for most errands. Cargo space behind the third row is 27.4 cubic feet for both vehicles. Space behind the second row is 70.8 cubic feet for the Wagoneer and 70.9 for the Grand Wagoneer. For trips to hardware and warehouse stores, total cargo space behind the first row is 116.7 cubic feet and 94.2 cubic feet for the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer respectively. The Wagoneer bests the 104.6 cubic feet available in the 2021 Ford Expedition, while the Grand Wagoneer has a bit more space than 90.4 cubic feet from the 2021 BMW X7.
