    New Peugeot 400cc ADV Scooter Debuts – Launch In 2023

There’s an electric scooter as well named e-Ludix. Aiming to diversify its portfolio, Peugeot has revealed its first ADV scooter at 2022 EICMA. Peugeot XP400 will go on sale in European market in 2023.Peugeot XP400 will rival similar capacity maxi-scooters from Honda and Yamaha. It is being offered in two variants. While Allure is like a standard version meant for on-road needs, the GT variant has enhanced capabilities for off-road tracks. More details about Peugeot XP400 and its pricing will be revealed at the time of launch in 2023.New Peugeot 400cc ADV Scooter – XP400 features, specsPeugeot XP400’s overall design and sharp body panelling appears inspired from Honda X-ADV. Some key features include dual headlamps, large windscreen, knuckle guards, step-up seat, upswept exhaust and edgy tail lamp. The scooter aims to provide the best of both worlds; the agility and speed of a motorcycle coupled with the comfort and versatility of a scooter.There are some variant-wise differences, for example, alloy wheels on Allure and wire-spoke wheels on GT variant. Allure gets colour options of Aurora Satin Green and Sideral Matt Black whereas GT variant has Shark Grey and Snow White. Both variants get a wide range of official accessories. More of these will be made available at around the time of launch.New Peugeot 400cc ADV ScooterCommon features include a 5-inch TFT screen that comes with turn-by-turn navigation. Connectivity features are also expected to be offered with the scooter. Peugeot XP400 has keyless entry, USB charging port and ample underseat storage. Seat is long and wide, ensuring adequate comfort for both rider and pillion.Powering the scooter is a 400cc motor that generates 36 hp of max power and 38 Nm of peak torque. Suspension setup comprises USD front forks and horizontally mounted monoshock at rear. The scooter rides on 17-inch front and 15-inch rear wheels, shod with 110/70 and 160/60 tyres, respectively. Braking duties are performed by 295 mm dual disc at front and a single 240 mm disc at rear. Dual-channel ABS is offered as standard.Peugeot XP400 India launch?It is unlikely that Peugeot XP400 will be launched in India anytime soon. The maxi-scooter segment is at a nascent stage in the country, with limited sales potential. Moreover, existing consumer preferences are more in favour of motorcycles. It will take some time for the market to realize the advantages of maxi-scooters and evolve their tastes accordingly.New Peugeot 400cc ADV ScooterFor India, Mahindra-owned Peugeot Motorcycles is expected to launch Kisbee electric scooter. It was spied testing recently alongside Ather 450X and Bounce Infinity E1. In international markets, Peugeot Kisbee is powered by a 50cc petrol motor. It is not offered with an electric powertrain. The electric version being tested for India is likely to be an affordable electric scooter with range of around 45-50 km. Top speed could be limited to 45 kmph. More

      Mahindra Electric Scooter Spied Testing – Next To Ather 450X

      While it couldn’t gain traction in ICE two-wheeler segment, the EV space presents entirely new possibilities for MahindraMahindra Electric Scooter SpiedA lot has been happening in electric two-wheeler segment, characterized by new product launches, booming sales and plethora of brands to choose from. Recently, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp marked its entry in this space with Vida electric scooter. Next on the list could be Mahindra that could start its innings with Peugeot Kisbee electric scooter.In international markets such as Europe, Peugeot Kisbee is a 50cc petrol powered scooter. Peugeot offers various other 50cc scooters in Europe such as Django, Tweet, Speedfight and Streetzone. In India, both the ICE version and electric version of Kisbee have been spotted on road tests. Peugeot could be working on a strategy similar to Suzuki that is expected to launch an electric scooter based on its popular Burgman Street 125cc scooter.Mahindra Electric Scooter SpiedCurrently, Peugeot does not sell an EV version of Kisbee in international markets. In EV space, Peugeot only has E-Ludix electric scooter. ICE-based Kisbee is powered by a 49.9 cc motor that generates 3.53 hp of peak power at 7,700 rpm and 3.2 Nm of max torque at 7,300 rpm. In Indian context, both petrol powered Kisbee and Kisbee electric scooter will have a unique value proposition.Peugeot Kisbee electric scooter was seen alongside Bounce Infinity E1 and Ather 450X. This is part of a benchmarking exercise. It is likely that Kisbee electric scooter is being assessed against one of the most affordable and one of the premium electric scooters in the country.Mahindra Electric Scooter SpiedIn terms of performance, Mahindra Electric Scooter Spied Kisbee EV is likely to have capabilities similar to Bounce Infinity E1. As Peugeot Kisbee is likely to be positioned as a premium offering, it could have hi-tech features similar to that of Ather 450X.As Peugeot already has E-Ludix in international markets, some of its features and hardware could be used for Kisbee electric scooter. E-Ludix has a 1.6 kWh, 48V lithium-ion removable battery pack. Range is 42 km and top speed is 45 kmph. The scooter has tubular steel chassis, mounted on a telescopic front fork and hydraulic rear shock absorber. Both ends have 14-inch wheels. The scooter is offered with front disc and rear drum brakes.Mahindra-Peugeot connectIt is to note that Mahindra had acquired a controlling 51% stake in Peugeot Motorcycles in January 2015. The deal was valued at 28 million Euros. As part of that engagement, Peugeot was working on some concepts based on Mahindra Mojo 300’s engines. These were showcased at 2019 EICMA. It is likely that further progress on these projects was halted due to the pandemic.Mahindra Scooter Spied testing with Ather 450XWith fuel prices at an all-time high, both ICE-based Kisbee and its EV version could get the customers’ attention. If Mahindra can arrive at a competitive price point, there’s likely to be significant demand for both ICE-based Kisbee and its EV version.       Peugeot 125cc Scooter Spied In PuneThere hasn’t been any word on a specific launch timeline for Peugeot Django 125 in India until nowAlthough Mahindra & Mahindra’s two-wheeler business didn’t fly off to greater heights as expected, the company has continued to invest in the two-wheeler industry by backing Classic Legends. The latter currently has the rights to manufacture and retail three iconic motorcycle brands including- Jawa, Yezdi and BSA.The company also holds the rights for sale and manufacture of two-wheelers under the French brand Peugeot. The first product under Peugeot to launch in India is expected to be Django 125. A heavily camouflaged test mule of this scooter has been spied testing on India roads once again after a long time.Peugeot Django 125: Changes in prototypeLast time this scooter was spotted was during its testing phase in December 2020. However, in comparison to previous spy images, there were considerable changes evident in the latest spy shots.For starters, the previous test mule was completely undisguised and flaunted every bit of its glory while the latest prototype was covered to the brim. Also, the previous test mule sported a nice and broad split-style seat with a ribbed pattern.Peugeot 125cc Scooter Spied In PuneOn the other hand, the recent prototype features a single-piece flat seat. The saddle was flanked by a pair of ugly-looking split grab rails, unlike the original scooter which received a sleeker pair of silver-coloured grab rails. We can also expect its under-seat storage to be larger in this prototype in comparison to the previous iteration.The biggest highlight of Django is its retro-style design, however, the latest test mule undergoes serious changes with regards to its design. Going forward, this test mule is expected to be the India-spec Django. The India-spec version gets new body panels that are in line with a more contemporary and modern design. It also features a new rectangular LED set-up similar to the ones seen in Vespa SXL.Expected features & SpecsIn terms of features, the latest mule appears to receive a digital instrument console that is rectangular in shape instead of the round cluster seen in the Europe-spec model. The best part of this scooter is the shiny exhaust muffler embellished in chrome which is slightly more upswept than the original test mule.Peugeot 125cc Scooter Spied In PuneDjango will be powered by a 125cc motor which kicks out 11.3 bhp and 11.2 Nm of peak torque in the UK-spec model. However, the India-spec iteration is expected to be tuned slightly differently in order to suit Indian riding conditions. Once launched, it will rival the likes of Vespa and Yamaha Fascino.Manufacture by MahindraThe latest prototype was seen wearing an MH14 number plate registered in Pimpri Chinchwad, near Pune – suggesting that the scooter might be manufactured at Mahindra’s Chakan plant. In addition to setting up newer ones, Peugeot could make use of Mahindra two-wheeler’s existing dealerships.       Mahindra Owned Peugeot Motorcycles Lose Patent Infringement Case In France, Italy

      In what is a significant setback for Mahindra-owned Peugeot Motorcycles, the courts in Paris and Milan have ruled against the sale of popular Peugeot Metropolis three-wheeled maxi-scooter in France and Italy due to a patent infringement. On top of that, both courts levied hefty fines.
      Piaggio Group’s patent suit against Peugeot Scooters
      The legal battle between Italy’s Piaggio Group and Peugeot Motorcycles centers around the control system which enables a three-wheeler to tilt like a regular two-wheeler. The patent for the aforementioned technology is owned by Piaggio Group which implements the system on its Piaggio MP3 scooter.
      Both the Tribunal Judiciaire of Paris and Tribunale of Milan have found the control system employed by Peugeot Metropolis to be infringing Piaggio Group’s patent. As a result, the French court has banned Peugeot Motorcycles from producing, promoting, marketing, importing, exporting, using and/or possessing any three-wheeled scooter employing Piaggio’s patented technology in France. The court also imposed a fine of 1.5 million euros (Rs 12.95 crores) in addition to other penalties.
      The Milanese court also ruled on the similar lines, banning the Indian-owned French two wheeler maker from importing, exporting, marketing and advertising the Peugeot Metropolis scooter in the Italian territory. Moreover, the court has prescribed a fine of 6,000 euros (around INR 5.18 lakh) for every Metropolis sold 30 days after the announcement of this sentence. Failing to withdraw the contentious vehicles from sale within 90 days will lead to a further penalty of 10,000 euros (around INR 8.64 lakh) for every day of non-compliance.

      What next?
      Given that the three-wheeled maxi-scooters are quite popular in both France and Italy, the ban on Metropolis comes as a huge blow to Peugeot Motorcycles which is entitled to appeal both the rulings. However, the company has not made its legal strategy public yet. Should the brand chooses not to pursue the legal battle further, or loses its appeal, we believe that a re-engineering process will be on the cards.
      Peugeot Metropolis
      As of now, the Peugeot Metropolis scooter continues to be listed on the company’s official Italian website. Priced a shade below 10,000 euros (around INR 8.64 lakh), the premium three-wheeler employs a 400 cc liquid-cooled engine with an automatic transmission. The power and torque figures stand at 35.6 hp and 38.1 Nm respectively.
      In comparison, the Piaggio MP3 is available in different flavours with three engine options – 300cc, 400cc and 500cc with prices ranging from 6,890 euros (around INR 5.95 lakh) to 11,590 euros (around INR 10.01 lakh).
      We expect Piaggio Group to initiate legal actions in all the markets where the Peugeot Metropolis is being sold. It is to be noted that while Peugeot Motorcycles evaluated a possible Indian entry a few years ago, nothing materialized. More

      It was last year that Mahindra purchased 100 percent stake in Peugeot Motorcycles. Mahindra Two Wheelers division has plans to not only launch Peugeot scooters and motorcycles in India, but to also export them from India.
      Retro styled scooter lovers could have more options to choose from in the near future, as two new Peugeot scooters have been spied on test in Pune. Currently, the retro styled scooter segment is dominated by the likes of Yamaha Fascino and Vespa that offers several products in 125cc and 150cc range. Peugeot Motorcycles could also introduce Pulsion 125, which is a maxi scooter built for urban commutes.
      Peugeot Django 125
      Based on the legendary S55 scooter, Django 125 lets retro fans relive the glorious era of the 1950s. It is distinguishable with its curvy, aerodynamic body panels, simple yet elegant styling, round headlamp and rear view mirrors, LED lights, split saddle seats, chrome accents, large grab rails, and body coloured deck. The one spotted in India comes with a dual-tone colour theme of red and white.
      Django 125 is powered by a 124.6 cc, air cooled engine. Power and torque output varies based on the country. In its home market France, the engine is tuned to deliver 10.2 hp of max power and 8.9 Nm of max torque.
      Peugeot Django 125
      The scooter utilizes a tubular steel chassis with hydraulic telescopic fork at the front and hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. The scooter has disc brakes at both ends and single-channel ABS is offered as standard.
      Some key features available with Django 125 include USB charging, under saddle storage, semi-digital instrument console, and retractable aluminium footrest. Security features include an anti-theft mechanical lock and steering lock.
      Peugeot Pulsion 125

      This is designed to offer max comfort and convenience to city commuters. Negotiating traffic can become real easy with Pulsion 125, as it comes with a peppy 124.8cc, liquid cooled engine that delivers 14.4 hp at 9000 rpm and 11.9 Nm torque at 7000 rpm. The scooter comes with relaxed, upright riding position, which ensures optimal comfort during city rides.
      The maxi-scooter is equipped with i-Connect connectivity tech that allows users to connect their smartphones with the instrument console. Users can manage calls, text messages, and access turn-by-turn navigation. The instrument panel is a raised unit, which makes it easier to see useful information without the need to take the eyes off the road.
      Peugeot Pulsion 125
      Talking a bit about design, Pulsion 125 comes with a dominating profile. Some key features include chequered grille, LED DRLs, dual headlights, tall windscreen, TFT colour display, and single piece step-up seat.
      Peugeot Motorcycles is one of the oldest two-wheeler manufacturers in the world, having started operations in early twentieth century.
