It was only recently that Mahindra Two Wheelers launched the BS6-compliant 2020MY version of its flagship touring motorcycle, Mojo 300. Ex-showroom prices start at roughly Rs 2 lakh or Rs 5,000 more than its phased-out BS4 ‘dual-channel ABS’ counterpart. One could argue that the Indian automaker is a bit late to the party since India’s 250-350cc motorcycle segment has got some compelling alternatives at competitive prices.

Apart from becoming ‘cleaner’ and receiving new colours, the 2020MY Mahindra Mojo BS6 remains nearly identical to its predecessor. There are four colour options: Black Pearl, Red Agate, Ruby Red and Garnet Black. The very first booking took place in Pune last month and deliveries are expected to start by mid-September.
In the meantime, the company has announced a price hike. While the base Black Pearl option does not get any price revision, Red Agate and Ruby Red shades have become costlier by Rs 11,000. Garnet Black costs Rs 6,000 more than before. Hence, ex-showroom prices of the updated Mahindra Mojo 300 BS6 now range from Rs 2.00-2.11 lakh.

As mentioned before, the touring motorcycle sports minimal changes over its BS4 avatar. Notable details include twin-pod headlamp setup, exposed ‘twin tube frame’, 21-litre fuel tank, LED tail lamp, 320mm front petal disc brake (regular 240mm unit at the back), 5-spoke alloy wheels, blacked-out theme, engine cowl, semi-digital instrument console, etc. It has several shortcomings compared to other players in the segment. At the moment, KTM India’s 390 Adventure offers the highest value in terms of performance and equipment.
The Mojo 300 commands a ground clearance of 165mm and weighs about 186kg (wet). It rides on 110/70R17 and 140/70R17 tyres at the front and rear, respectively. To aid its touring traits, the front suspension boasts of 143mm travel. This drops down to 135mm for the rear monoshock.
The Mahindra Mojo originally debuted with LED DRLs, dual exhausts, Pirelli tyres, USD forks, etc. — later under ‘XT300’ moniker. The current version appears to be an updated ‘UT300’ variant. Primary rivals include the KTM 250 Duke, BMW G 310 GS (BS6 update on the way), Bajaj Dominar 250, Royal Enfield Himalayan, etc.

Powering the 2020MY Mahindra Mojo 300 is a BS6-compliant 294.72cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine. Earlier this month, Mahindra Two Wheelers launched their much awaited Mojo BS6 variant. Available in a choice of 4 colour options, prices start from Rs 1.99 lakhs and goes all the way to Rs 2.11 lakhs. All prices are ex-sh.

Though launched, deliveries are yet to start. Pune based biker Savio, who was the first to book the Mojo BS6 in India, is expecting to get delivery of his bike by September. Ahead of deliveries starting, select enthusiasts have managed to get a test ride of the Mojo BS6.
One such enthusiast is Rakesh Mehta from Mahindra Mojo Riders Club. Earlier today, he has shared a short walkaround video, which gives us a 360 degree view of the Mojo BS6, as well as let us hear the exhaust note. Below is the video.

According the Rakesh, the BS6 Mojo is much more refined and smoother, as compared to the BS4 Mojo. In addition to this, he also experienced lesser jerks at lower RPMs. Other two points made by him are – Sounds quite smooth compared to previous one ( Due to additional Cat Cons ) , XT Exhaust was quite bassy.
And the second point, Excellent brakes and as usual comfortable seats just like previous ABS model. When asked about the missing USDs by another member of the Mojo Club, Rakesh replied that he found the new telescopic forks just like the USDs. Fuel efficiency has been improved.
Engine
Powering the Mojo BS6 is an upgraded 300cc, liquid cooled, DOHC, single cylinder engine offering 26.6 hp power at 7,500 rpm and 28 Nm torque at 5,500 rpm mated to a 6 speed gearbox with an additional catalytic converter to meet with the more stringent BS6 emission standards.

Front suspension is regular telescopic forks with 143mm travel while at the rear there is a monoshock with 135 mm travel. Braking is via disc brakes measuring 320mm in the front and 240mm disc at the rear. ABS is offered as standard. Mojo BS6 gets a 21 liter fuel tank and will ride on 110/70R17 front and 140/70R17 tyres.
Mahindra Mojo BS6 looks very similar to its BS4 counterpart. It will get four new colour options of Ruby Red, Black Pearl, Garnet Black and Red Agate. All four colour options are seen with contrasting black wheels.
It will also be seen with a twin pod headlamp cluster with a front cowl, single step up seating and alloy wheels. Features at the rear include an upswept exhaust system, extended mudguard and LED tail lamps. On board features will include a semi digital instrument panel while the console will include an analogue set up with tachometer and a digital screen offering speed, gear position, odometer and trip meter readouts. Over the past weeks, Mahindra has shared multiple teasers and spy shots of the motorcycle. Its launch date was initially rumoured to be July 21. The Mahindra Mojo 300 BS6 primarily rivals Bajaj Auto’s Dominar 400. Other alternatives include the KTM 390 Duke and BMW G 310 R (BS6 model yet to debut).

Mahindra Two Wheelers has revealed the complete colour choices available for the Mojo BS6. There are four options: Red Agate (red + white dual-tone), Black Pearl (full black), Ruby Red (red + black dual-tone) and Garnet Black (black with red frame). Red Agate appears to be the best choice. In all four instances, the motorcycle rides on black wheels (no pinstripes for Red Agate). Furthermore, Red Agate shade extends to its headlamp cowl.

Unlike the original version (or XT300 variant), the BS6 model does not get dual exhausts or USD forks. In other words, the Mahindra Mojo BS6 is an updated ‘UT300’. Notable highlights include a large dual-headlamp configuration, dual-channel ABS, 21-litre fuel tank (largest in the segment), semi-digital instrument console, 320mm front petal disc brake (non-petal 240mm unit at the rear), LED tail lamp, etc. As per the latest teaser, the Mahindra Mojo 300 BS6 is significantly better on refinement, efficiency and comfort.
It rides on 110/70R17 and 140/70R17 tyres (original model had a set of Pirellis) at the front and rear, respectively. Being a tourer with soft offroading capabilities, the front suspension travel is set at 143mm while the rear monoshock provides 135mm.
Engine & Specs
As mentioned before, the BS6 Mahindra Mojo does not sport any substantial improvements in terms of styling. Power figures could slightly vary compared to its BS4 counterpart. In its last iteration, the Mojo 300 churned out 26.6bhp @ 7,500rpm and 28Nm @ 5,500rpm from a 294.72cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine. This is coupled to a 6-speed transmission (no slipper clutch). The power plant is used in a different format in Jawa Motorcycles’ 42, ‘Jawa’ and Perak (larger bore).
In BS6 avatar, ECU has been tuned to deliver refined performance at lower revs. Tuning the ECU has also resulted in improving fuel efficiency by up to 10%. Deliveries of the new Mojo BS6 will start in a few days. More

Mahindra Two Wheelers is getting ready to launch the updated BS6 version of its popular touring motorcycle, Mojo 300. The two-wheeler manufacturer under Mahindra & Mahindra group has already released a few Mojo 300 teasers on its social media handles. In fact, bookings for the same are now open at a token amount of Rs 5,000.

The first Mahindra Mojo BS6 was booked by Savio (@decepticon1982). He has booked the Ruby Red colour option. A total of 4 new colours are on offer with BS6 Mojo. When asked about his choice here is what he had to say. “I am one of the first owners of the Bajaj Dominar 400 in the country. Indeed the Dominar is a fantastic motorcycle, what blew me away was the touring prowess and ergonomics of the Mahindra Mojo.”
Price has not been officially revealed. Expect prices to be in the Rs 2 lakh range, ex-sh. Compared to its phased-out BS4 counterpart, the new Mahindra Mojo BS6 does not carry any major changes. However, the company has added four fresh colour choices: Garnet Black, Red Agate, Black Pearl and Ruby Red. Initial rumours that claimed July 21 as the launch date proved false, but one can expect the motorcycle to hit our market real soon.

It was back in October 2015 that Mahindra Two Wheelers introduced its one and only premium motorcycle to India’s then-budding 250-350cc single-cylinder sports category. Choices from Bajaj Auto and KTM India affected its sales performance from the very start. Yet even to this date, the Mojo 300 has a small yet strong following. The motorcycle received its last update in August 2019 in the form of dual-channel ABS.
BS6 Mojo Pricing
Mahindra Mojo 300 BS6’s prices are expected to be in the range of Rs 2 lakh. Pricing varies with colour. In comparison, the previous Mojo 300 BS4 dual-channel ABS cost Rs 1.88 lakh. This was followed by a price hike of almost Rs 8,000. Hence, the BS6 version is costlier by around Rs 4,000-5,000. All prices mentioned here are ex-showroom.
At one point, Mahindra Two Wheelers sold the Mojo 300 in two variants: UT300 and XT300. The latter (original form) received dual exhausts, USD forks, Pirelli tyres, LED DRLs, etc. The BS6 Mojo 300 is essentially an updated XT300.
Specs
In BS4 avatar, the Mahindra Mojo churned out 26.8bhp and 30Nm of torque from a 295cc liquid-cooled DOHC FI single-cylinder engine. Transmission duties were done by a 6-speed unit with no slipper clutch. Output characteristics might change a bit in BS6 format.
A modified version of the power plant is used in Jawa Motorcycles’ 42, ‘Jawa’ and Perak. The first two get a 293cc motor good for 27bhp and 28Nm while the Perak bobber churns out 30bhp and 31Nm from a 334cc mill.
Once launched, the Mahindra Mojo BS6 will face tough competition in India’s active single-cylinder sports or touring motorcycle category. Major rivals include the Bajaj Dominar (250 and 400), KTM 250 Duke, Royal Enfield Himalayan as well as BMW Motorrad India’s upcoming G 310 R BS6. More

The new Mahindra Mojo BS6 carries minimal cosmetic changes over its BS4 counterpart
Mahindra Two Wheelers has not been doing particularly well on the Indian two-wheeler market. The company has a limited portfolio consisting of the Centuro commuter, Gusto petrol-CVT scooter and Mojo touring motorcycle; none of which have been updated to BS6 emission norms.

Among the three, the Mahindra Mojo plays in a league of its own. It was launched back in October 2015 in the emerging 250-350cc sports motorcycle category. At one point, the Mojo was available in either XT300 (double exhausts) or UT300 (single exhaust) format. Mahindra Two Wheelers eventually trimmed it down to just a BS4 single-exhaust variant.
The Mahindra Mojo received its last update (addition of dual-channel ABS) in August 2019. It debuted in a segment wherein highly desirable alternatives from brands such as KTM India and Bajaj Auto have already made a strong statement. The Mahindra Mojo was a hugely underrated product during its initial days.

It was only recently that we shared a spy shot of the Mahindra Mojo BS6 test mule doing runs, undisguised. In about a week’s time from then, the Indian automaker officially teased it under the hashtag, #NewGemsInYourCrown. We are not sure what was the inspiration behind such a tagline but nevertheless, it is good to see that the flagship product is finally making a return.
The company has now released a teaser showcasing the Mahindra Mojo BS6 in an all-new Garnet Black shade. More colours will be unveiled in the next couple of days. Sources reveal that Mahindra Two Wheelers plans to launch it on July 21. Bookings should commence alongside.
Mahindra Mojo BS6 Changes
From the teaser image, it is evident that the Mahindra Mojo BS6 does not carry any major cosmetic revisions over its BS4 counterpart. The changes mostly confine within the power plant. This extends to a new ECU, lambda or oxygen sensor, additional relays and minor internal improvements. Owing to this, the Mojo BS6 could offer a noticeably better riding experience.

The Mahindra Mojo, in BS4 format, generated 26.8bhp and 30Nm of torque from a 295cc liquid-cooled DOHC FI single-cylinder engine, mated to a 6-speed transmission (no slipper clutch). The figures could see a slight difference in BS6 format, yet there is no news regarding the introduction of a slipper clutch.
Jawa Motorcycles, owned by Mahindra & Mahindra group, employs modified versions of this power plant. In the entry-level 42 and ‘Jawa’, the 293cc version makes 27bhp and 28Nm while the higher Jawa Perak bobber churns out 30bhp and 31Nm from its 334cc version. More

The Mahindra Mojo BS6, as revealed by previous spyshots, will not feature any significant visual changes
Mahindra’s two wheeler division has been struggling in a highly competitive market since its inception. For any new comer in our market, cracking the commuter motorcycle and automatic scooter segments against the well established players is a herculean task. Mahindra’s repeated attempts at these segments failed to create an impact but the company managed to garner a sizeable following in the medium displacement market with its flagship Mojo.

While the Mahindra Mojo was not anywhere close to leading the 200-300 cc segment, the customer response was good enough to justify the continuous improvement and re-configurations. In a bid to make the motorcycle more accessible, Mahindra came up with a low-cost Mojo UT300 variant by deleting several features like dual silencers, inverted forks, Pirelli tyres, LED DRLs, fuel-injection and so on. The original fuel-injected variant with twin-silencers continued to retail as Mojo XT300.
In 2019, Mahindra decided to discontinue the two variant approach in favour of a single, cost-optimized variant which featured fuel-injection, single silencer and dual-channel ABS. Now, the 2020 Mahindra Mojo BS6 is almost ready as evident from a teaser image uploaded on the company’s social media handles.
The image shows the motorcycle’s silhouette and as far as we can see, there are no noticeable visual changes. This is consistent with the prototype which was spied recently. Save for the emission upgrades, the medium displacement tourer is not expected to receive any significant change.
We expect the Mahindra Mojo BS6 to receive an additional catalytic converter chamber somewhere near the exhaust downtube as seen on the Jawa BS6 which also employs the same engine. The 295 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected motor currently develops 26.8 hp and 30 Nm of torque. The emission upgrades are likely to result in a nominal drop in output figures. The Mojo is equipped with a 6-speed transmission that is configured for comfortable long-distance touring.
With no new official product development projects on the horizon for Mahindra Two Wheelers, the Mojo BS6 shoulders a heavily responsibility of keeping the company afloat. Assuming the price hike compared to the BS4 to be nominal, we estimated the Mahindra Mojo BS6 to be priced at around INR 2 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Mojo will continue to rival the likes of Bajaj Dominar 400, KTM Duke 200, Royal Enfield Himalayan and so on. An adventure tourer on the same platform would be an interesting proposition but at this point, it is just our wishful thinking. More
