2022 KTM Duke 250, Duke 125 Spied Testing – New Details Revealed

2022 KTM Duke 125, 250 Spied TestingKTM currently retails Duke 125 and Duke 250 in India at a price of Rs 1.51 lakh and Rs 2.17 lakh (ex-showroom)
KTM is aggressively working towards revamping its current portfolio of products, especially the ones in the lower end of the spectrum. The lower end of KTM’s lineup (up to 400cc) has a sizeable market share in developing countries such as India. While we already know about KTM’s plan of bringing a new generation model of RC 390, it is certainly not the only which will receive a major upgrade in the near future.
The Austrian bikemaker is also developing a new generation model of its entry-level Duke 125 along with its quarter-litre sibling Duke 250. Test prototypes of both models were recently spotted somewhere in Europe. Both motorcycles received their latest updates last year with emission standards upgraded to BS6 and Euro-5 norms.

The company also took this opportunity to provide the bikes with a few aesthetic updates. However, going by the images it looks as if the upgrades this time around will be sufficiently more prominent.
For starters, it appears both motorcycles have ditched the looks of Duke 390 and worn bodywork of their own. Along with new styling elements, the bikes have incorporated some major changes under their skin in the form of chassis and powertrain updates.
    2022 KTM Duke 125, 250 Spied Testing
    Duke 125 Redesigned Style
Starting with the smallest member of Duke family, KTM 125 flaunts the same two-piece frame configuration however the Trellis frame construction is visibly different with additional crossbeams making it more robust. In addition, the subframe looks much longer than the current version. It also gets a new swingarm with a new support brace that arches up and over the chain drive.

Interestingly, the Duke 125 mule spotted was not wearing any of its bodywork hence it is not possible to compare it with the current model although it does get a new headlamp unit.
    Duke 250- Mechanical Updates
On the other, Duke 250 prototype was fully clothed with a new set of body panels giving it a new sense of identity. Unlike its smaller sibling, Duke 250 completely does away with the Trellis subframe and replaces it with a composite version in line with the flagship Duke 1290 which got upgraded earlier this year.
    2022 KTM Duke 125, 250 Spied Testing
In accordance with the new subframe, the suspension setup now consists of a side-mounted rear shock that is starkly different from the center-mounted setup of the current iteration of Duke 250.
The swingarm gets the same arched support brace from Duke 125. Seeing the similarity between the design of two swingarms, it is possible that the 125cc derivative could also feature a side-mounted shock at rear. Duke 125’s swingarm also boasts a new wavy design in line with the conventional trellis frame pattern. Other updates include knuckle guards at front and a redesigned headlamp unit.

    Powertrain Specs
Powertrains on both motorcycles are also expected to witness some updates. However, the nature of updates is yet to be known. Currently, Duke 125 is powered by a 124.7cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that pumps out 14 bhp at 9,250rpm and a peak torque of 12 Nm at 8000rpm. Whereas, Duke 250 draws its energy from a 248.8cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled DOHC engine that cranks out 29 bhp at 9000rpm and 24 Nm at 7500rpm. Both units are paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

KTM RC 390 New Gen Launch Soon – Current Model Discontinued?

Image – car.spyshotsNext-gen KTM RC 390 will be launched in the Indian market first
KTM India has removed the existing RC390 from their website. KTM dealers in India are no longer accepting bookings for the RC 390. It is unclear if this is because of shortage of parts, or is it because the new one is ready for launch.
As evident in spy images, next-gen KTM RC 390 will pack in a range of updates. Everything from styling to bodywork, ergonomics, frame and safety has been updated. Next-gen KTM RC 390 will continue to rival the likes of TVS Apache RR 310, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and new Benelli 302R.
Next-gen KTM RC 390 – design and styling
New RC 390 gets full-LED headlamp, which appears to be similar to that of discontinued KTM RC8 superbike. Revisions can also be seen in the handlebar, frame, seats, and wheels. The transparent fairing at the front appears wider, which could provide better wind protection. It houses edgy, boomerang styled LED turn indicators. Another key update is air vents on the side panels, which will ensure optimized air flow.
RC 390 new model gets larger fuel tank, which means less stops at fuel stations. The motorcycle has been equipped with a new rear sub-frame that will ensure more comfortable rides for tall users. Talking about ergonomics, next-gen RC 390 favours a relatively upright riding stance. This appears to be similar to that of TVS Apace RR 310.
2021 KTM RC 200 – New RC 390 will carry similar styling
In comparison, the current model has an aggressive riding position. In other updates, new RC 390 could get a TFT instrument cluster. This could be similar to the one in use with 390 Duke.
    Next-gen KTM RC 390 engine
Current RC 390 comes with a 373 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is capable of generating 44 hp of max power and 35 Nm of max torque. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch. It is expected that engine specs will remain the same as earlier.
Even if there are some revisions to the engine, it would be minor in nature and unlikely to make any big difference in performance. It is possible though that KTM may introduce a larger exhaust canister and few emission related updates for next-gen RC 390.
Suspension setup is the same as earlier – WP inverted telescopic front forks and monoshock unit at the rear. However, braking apparatus appears to have been updated with a larger disc at the front. This will ensure better stopping power.
    Next-gen KTM RC 390 price
With the updates, next-gen KTM RC 390 is expected to be launched at a price of Rs 2.80 lakh. The current model is priced at Rs 2.65 lakh. Just like the current model, next-gen KTM RC 390 will be manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s production facility in Chakan, near Pune. More

KTM Duke, RC, ADV And Husqvarna Prices Increased By Up To 10k

Image – Motor MurahKTM and Husqvarna bikes now costlier following range wide price revision wef April 1, 2021
With the advent of the new financial year comes the burden of cost distribution. As is the practice, a new price list is the order of the day. KTM and Husqvarna have increased the price tag for all its two-wheelers. At the steep end, the price revision is capped at below 10k. The price hike is attributed to an increase in input costs.
The auto industry works around multiple developments when it comes to periodic price revisions. Apart from price hikes for the addition of a new feature or cosmetic revision, and other causes, there are standard revisions. This means, someone who purchased a two-wheeler at the start of December, would find the same bike to be costing substantially more on April 1st.
KTM and Husqvarna Prices April 2021 vs March 2021
This is because at the start of December, a price hike had been announced. Soon after, at the start of the calendar year, new model year (MY) vehicles began costing more. And now, 3 months later, at the start of the new financial year, price tags are again revised.
    KTM and Husqvarna price hike
Some of the KTM and Husqvarna bikes are now costlier by 14-18 grands in less than 6 months time. The cyclic pattern provides constant impetus to not dilly dally when it comes to purchasing a vehicle because the longer one takes to make a decision, the costlier the vehicle proves to be.
KTM and Husqvarna Prices April 2021 vs Dec 2020
For KTM, both 125 and 200 units are bestsellers. And the price gap between both units have for now contracted noticeably. Between November 2020 and April 2021, Duke 125 is costlier by Rs 18,214. Retail price is listed at just over Rs 1.6 lakh as compared to Rs 1,42,105 lakh in November 2020.
KTM and Husqvarna Prices April 2021 vs Nov 2020
Duke 200 on the other hand has seen price increase in the past 5 months capped at Rs 6,291. Current ex sh price is listed at Rs 1,83,328 as compared to Rs 1,77,037 five months earlier. Price revision for KTM 200 is the lowest over a 5 month period. Every other bike, including the models from Husqvarna are all costlier by more than 10 grands now.
    FY22 price revision announced
Depending on base price variation, most cost increases range between 4 – 8 percent in November 2020 – April 1, 2021 period. Duke 125 however saw price increase by almost 13 percent in the same period. For the company, the 125cc unit is its entry price point offering.
And the fiscal has only just begun. It’s safe to say, before the year ends, one can expect a price revision or two basis market conditions, costs, and model revisions, among other things. All prices above are ex-sh. More

Bajaj Auto and KTM AG have been having a fruitful partnership for the last 13 years. The Indian two- and three-wheeler giant currently holds 48% stake in the Austrian sportsbike manufacturer. The controlling stake of 51.7% in KTM is being held by Pierer Mobility AG which is in turn is parented by Pierer Industrie AG.
    Continued partnership
Bajaj and KTM have been involved in joint product development, manufacturing facility sharing, international distribution pact, and joint sales and marketing activities. Moving forward, the two brands are currently developing an electric two wheeler platform.
KTM-Husqvarna will use the Bajaj Chetak’s 4 kW electric platform for its upcoming Husqvarna scooter which will be made by Bajaj Auto in India. The duo are also working on a 4 kW/10 kW electric motorcycle platform which is likely to be marketed as Husqvarna E-Pilen.

Once launched, it will take on the likes of Ather 450X. More platforms and products are likely to be in the pipeline.
    Bajaj Chetak
With Bajaj Auto’s help, KTM emerged as the largest premium motorcycle brand in the world by surpassing Harley Davidson in terms of volume in 2018 and 2019. 22% of the company’s H2 2020 sales is accounted for by products that were made by Bajaj in India and sold in domestic market as well as in Indonesia.
For Bajaj, KTM’s partnership gave access to technologies and the right to be the only manufacturer of KTM and Husqvarna bikes outside Europe. The export operations include important markets like US, Japan and South Asia.
Bajaj Auto to return its 48% stake?
According to a recent report by Moneycontrol, the Indian automaker’s European subsidiary Bajaj Auto International Holding BV is in talks with Pierer Industrie AG to transfer the 48% stake back to the Austrian parent company. It is likely Bajaj will in return get stake in Pierer Industrie AG. The finer details of the proposal and its consequences to the highly successful partnership is not known yet but we believe KTM and Bajaj will continue exploring synergies.
It is to be noted that the two entities had a similar discussions back in March 2019 with the stake transfer transaction scheduled to be completed in a matter of months. However, both parties withdrew the move for reasons not specified.
If the transfer is executed this time around, Pierer Group is expected to increase its stake in KTM AG from 51.7% to 99.7%. The brands KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas are under KTM AG’s umbrella. More details are expected to be released by the concerned parties in due course. More

KTM India Sales Decline, Exports Grow In Feb 2021 – Duke, RC, ADV

File photo. Credit – Indori MotoroidsKTM motorcycles in India are manufactured in Bajaj Auto’s Chakan-based facility near Pune in Maharashtra
KTM sales have been growing exponentially over the last few years, both in terms of YoY and MoM. However, that wasn’t the case in February 2021 when sales were down, especially in domestic sales. This could primarily be attributed to production delays which were caused due to constraints in unavailability of components and also due to fall in demand.
    Domestic Sales
The brand has been one of the leading premium bike sellers in the country in recent times. In February 2021, the Austrian bikemaker sold a total of 5,394 units in comparison to 6,470 bikes sold in February 2020 and 6,777 bikes sold in January this year. This led to a decline in YoY as well as MoM sales by 16.63 percent and 20.41 percent.
    KTM 200, 390 & 250 suffer degrowth
In the domestic market, 200 Duke was the most popular motorcycle from KTM in India with sales of 2,431 units last month. In comparison, the manufacturer retailed 2,900 units in February last year and 2,979 units in January this year. This resulted in YoY and MoM decline of 16.17 percent and 18.40 percent.
The company’s entry-level product Duke 125 came in next with a total sales volume of 2,200 units against last year’s February sales of 1,476 units which led to YoY growth of 49.05 percent. The figures stood at 2,516 units in January 2021 which meant an MoM decline of 12.56 percent.
KTM India Domestic Sales Feb 2021
However, the most disappointing of them all was the 390 series which recorded sales of only 451 units in February this year despite it having the most number of offerings. KTM sells three models in this space- 390 Duke, RC 390 and 390 Adventure. A YoY and MoM growth of 70.03 percent and 47.03 percent respectively were recorded last month.
KTM sells two models under the 250 Series- namely 250 Duke and 250 Adventure which combined to raked in a sales volume of 312 units. The figures in February 2020 and January 2021 stood at 589 units and 560 units respectively. This resulted in a decline in YoY and MoM sales by 47.03 percent and 44.29 percent.
    Export Figures
Things were slightly better in terms of exports as the Austrian bikemaker shipped 8,153 bikes to overseas markets last month. In comparison, the company dispatched 5,387 units and 6,814 units to overseas countries in February 2020 and January 2021. Thus it led to YoY and MoM growth of 51.35 percent and 19.65 percent.
    KTM India Exports Feb 2021
Out of all models, the 390 series was the highest-selling with cumulative sales of 3,034 units against 3,536 units and 3,354 units shipped in February 2020 and January this year. KTM 390 was closely trailed by KTM 200 with a total shipment of 2,982 units and recorded impressive YoY and MoM growths of 304 percent and 141.65 percent. 125 Duke and the 250 series recorded YoY growth of 40.12 percent and 251.65 percent respectively. 2021 KTM RC 125 Side View Spied – Pillion Seat Higher Than R15 V3?

2021 KTM RC 125 / RC 200. Image – ChinmayKTM will launch a completely revamped RC lineup in India which includes RC 125, RC 200 and RC 390 sometime during the course of this year
KTM had commenced trial production of the next generation RC 200 at the end of last year. We expected the updated faired motorcycle to make its debut by the first quarter of this year. However, there are no signs of the motorcycle as of now.
Although, on a couple of instances, the new RC 200 has been spotted testing on Indian roads in recent months which suggests that the motorcycle is still in its developmental phase. Another set of spy shots of the upcoming faired sports bike has emerged online where a test mule is seen conducting pre-launch tests.
    RC 200 Revised Styling
Even though the prototype was wrapped under heavy camouflage, we could notice certain design aspects which had been taken over from RC 390. One thing is for sure, that the upcoming RC range will wear a completely different top hot compared to its predecessor.
The biggest variation noticed is the single-piece headlamp as opposed to a twin-pod headlamp cluster. The halogen unit is flanked by a similar LED DRL strip on its borders. In addition, it also gets a taller windscreen and new LED turn indicators which are integrated onto the wing mirrors.
    2021 KTM RC 125 / RC 200. Image – Chinmay
The revised windscreen has been designed not only to provide better protection from the wind but also to enhance its aerodynamic properties. The new split seating setup is certainly not as attractive as the previous model but looks more convenient and hopefully more convenient.
The spy shots indicate a more compliant riding position which includes handlebars fitted closer to the rider and center set footpegs that offer an upright riding stance. Other notable changes witnessed are redesigned 5-spoke alloy wheels finished in Electric Orange, slimmer fairing and proper split grab rails. Pillion seat has been raised significantly.
    New Features
In addition to all the updates mentioned above, the upcoming RC 125 / 200 also gets a new underbelly exhaust setup and a new rear subframe. Previous spy pics also revealed that the bike will get new body graphics and decals that will accentuate its sporty appeal. The latest spy pics also reveal a new and larger TFT digital instrument console which is expected to feature smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.

    RC 200 Updated Design
Not only RC 200 but the Austrian bikemaker is looking to completely overhaul its entire RC lineup in India including RS 125 and RC 390. Latest spy shots of RC 390 also suggest a completely revamped design. The new generation faired sports bike also features a heavily redesigned front end with dual projector headlamps being replaced by a single headlamp unit. However, unlike its smaller sibling, it gets a full LED lighting setup.
Like RC 200, front fairing of RC 390 also looks revised which gives it a sharper look and improved aerodynamic efficiency. The shape of the fuel tank has been altered too which also seems to have improved rider ergonomics. The split seat setup of RC 390 is uncannily similar to its smaller sibling although the pillion seat still looks very inaccessible for its height. RC 125, on the other hand, is likely to wear a similar look to RC 200 which would feature a compact fairing.
    2021 KTM RC 125 / RC 200. Image – Chinmay
    Updated RC Lineup Powertrain
As far as performance is concerned, all three motorcycles are expected to carry forward their respective powertrains. RC 125 will be powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which pushes out 14.5 bhp and 12 Nm of peak torque. RC 200 will draw its power from a 199.5cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that pumps out 24.6 bhp and 19.2 Nm of torque.
And finally, RC 390 would derive its energy from the same 373cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that churns out 44 bhp and 35 Nm of torque. While RC 125’s motor is likely to be paired with a 5-speed transmission, the other two are expected to be offered with a 6-speed gearbox. All three bikes will be built on a Trellis frame suspended on USD WP forks at front and a mono-shock unit at rear. More

2021 KTM RC 390 Spied Testing In India – Launch This Year

2021 KTM RC390 Test Mule In India
2021 KTM RC 390 features a revised bolt-on rear sub-frame, new front disc rotor and completely redesigned fairing panels
2021 KTM RC 390 has been spotted for the first time in India as the fully faired motorcycle inches closer to its world premiere. Likely to be introduced first in India before being exported to international markets, the new generation RC 390 features extensive styling and mechanical changes.
2021 KTM RC 390 – What we know so far?
Second iteration of the Austrian brand’s compact supersports motorcycle family features a redesigned fairing which is edgier and leaner than before. The front fascia gets away with the beaky twin projector headlamp in favour of a shield-like full LED unit which is vertically bifurcated by a heat sink.
The new headlamp design is an integral part of KTM’s current design identity and it is obvious that the rest of the fairing panels are designed around it. Also, the side panels are less concealing than before and sport vents to enhance cooling performance.
2021 KTM RC 390 also benefits from a new bolt-on rear sub-frame which is designed to make taller riders more comfortable than before. Tailpiece has been revised subtly, exhaust canister and alloy wheels look new as well. The prototype features a plain black paint job but expect the production version of sport snazzy multi-colour liveries.

    Specs at a glance
New KTM RC family of motorcycles feature new type of front disc rotor which is mounted to the wheel spokes instead of the hub. Brake disc diameter appears to have been increased and this should translate to improved braking performance.
The motorcycle continues to employ proven WP inverted telescopic front forks and rear monoshock. KTM may opt to employ MRF tyres on India-spec model just like it did with the Duke. Indian government’s restriction on import of tyres may have something to do with that.
The familiar and immensely popular 373 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor is most likely to be retained as it is. With 44 hp and 35 Nm of torque, 2021 KTM RC 390 would still me the most powerful motorcycle in its class. The 6-speed transmission with slipper and assist clutch will be retained as well.
    Equipment
In addition to full LED headlamp, 2021 KTM RC 390 will be equipped with the colour TFT instrument display which is found on the 390 Duke. Dual-channel ABS will be a standard fitment.
New KTM RC 390 will be made at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant for the entire world, just like its 125 and 200 siblings. Expect to world premiere to take place sometime in mid-2021, post which it will be launched in India. The current model retails at INR 2.6 lakh (ex-showroom) and expect its successor to be marginally more expensive. Competition will come from the TVS Apache RR 310, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and so on.
