KTM is among the OEMs catering to this niche with its 390 lineup, which just got larger with the introduction of new 390 Adventure and 390 Enduro.
    Team Orange recently unveiled 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R at India Bike Week event held in Goa. These motorcycles are set to launch soon and the company is expected to announce prices in January 2024. Ahead of launch, a few dealerships have commenced unofficial bookings for these motorcycles.
    New KTM 390 Adventure Bookings
    Ahead of an official launch, few KTM dealerships has commenced unofficial bookings of the upcoming 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R. These motorcycles are expected to launch soon and are some of the hottest and most anticipated launches in India.
    With excitement levels high among buyers, many would be tempted to reserve one for themselves. Getting a highly anticipated motorcycle at the earliest after launch is a nice thing. KTM dealers understand this and are accepting unofficial bookings from enthusiasts. Booking amount will vary as it is dealer-level.
    India-spec KTM 390 Adventure S, 390 Enduro R
    390 Adventure is getting a major generational update with all-new powertrains, improved cycle parts and revamped features. That said, 390 Enduro is the new motorcycle lineup from KTM which debuted at 2024 EICMA alongside 390 SMC. At India Bike Week in Goa, KTM showcased 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R.
    The new 390 Adventure S needs no introduction as it is the successor of a well-established adventure tourer. The S variant is below the fully loaded R variant but is well kitted out than X variant. 390 Enduro, however, is being introduced for the first time and was showcased only with the top-spec R variant.
    What do they pack?
    Depending on market reception, KTM might introduce more variants in the future for both Adventure and Enduro offerings. 390 Adventure S Adventure Tourer packs 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, non-adjustable suspension, a tall windscreen, a semi-fairing for wind protection and a TFT instrument screen.

    390 Enduro R, on the other hand, gets a smaller instrument screen, 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, fully adjustable suspension with more suspension travel and is a proper off-roader.       After a busy spectacle at EICMA 2024, KTM has brought its 390 Adventure lineup to India. The new 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R debuts in India for the first time at ongoing IBW (India Bike Weak) in Goa. Looking at these motorcycles, we can see that they are very close to what was shown at EICMA 2024.
      New KTM 390 Adventure
      Manufactured by Bajaj Auto in India, KTM’s 390 lineup holds quite a recall here and abroad. Known for its manic performance within the single-cylinder offerings, KTM 390 is quite popular. Within the 390 portfolio, 390 Adventure holds a special position as it caters to the widely popular Adventure Tourer genre.
      390 Adventure S
      Alongside 2025 KTM 390 Adventure, the company also showcased 390 Enduro and 390 SMC at EICMA 2024. These motorcycles are completely new from KTM. For India, KTM has showcased 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R. SMC 390, on the other hand, is a Supermoto motorcycle based on this platform with 17-inch wheels at both ends.
      Sticking with the just-debuted India-spec KTM 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R, the company has showcased them at ongoing IBW in Goa. There are differences between these two machines in the way they are built and their capabilities. 390 Adventure S is more of an Adventure Tourer with decent off-roading and trail capabilities.
      390 Enduro R
      Aventure S rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels. Ground clearance is lower on 390 Adventure S and it gets a lower seat height, when compared to 390 Adventure R showcased at EICMA 2024. Suspension setup comprises of USD front forks and rear mono-shock and 390 Adventure S also gets a TFT instrument cluster.
      More capable 390 Enduro R
      On the other hand, 390 Enduro R is far more capable and is a proper off-roader. 390 Enduro is a more dedicated and hard-core off-roader with minimal bodywork and less weight. It gets a larger 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels combination. The suspension is likely to be fully adjustable for compression and rebound. Suspension travel could be around 230mm.
      390 Enduro R
      Because of the larger wheels and higher suspension travel, the ground clearance is higher as well. Thus the seat height has been pushed up too. Where features are concerned, 390 Enduro R gets similar attributes as seen with 390 Adventure S, sans the bodywork.
      390 Adventure S
      Where powertrains are concerned, both Adventure S and Enduro R gets the same 399cc DOHC 4V/cyl liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor from 390 Duke. This motor is capable of generating 45 bhp and 40 Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox, slipper clutch and a bi-directional quick-shifter. KTM might tune this engine differently to achieve an optimum character for these machines.

      KTM has had the most activity in recent times. For starters, the company relaunched some of its big bike portfolio in India after a very long time. At the EICMA 2024 show, KTM showcased a bunch of technology and innovations. But for Indian market, the biggest talking point has to be 390 Adventure.

      This single-cylinder high-performance ADV tourer is one of KTM’s most celebrated models in India. The new generation model was unveiled at EICMA and is set for an official India debut at IBW 2024, held in Goa between December 6th and 7th. KTM India has teased the same on their social media handles. Let’s take a look.

      390 Adventure India Debut

      Ever since its launch, KTM 390 Adventure has been a staple name in the motorcycling fraternity. It offered a comfortable touring experience, light off-roading, rough-roading and high-speed cruising abilities. Features like the TFT instrument cluster with connectivity also helped the proposition.

      With the new generation of 390 Adventure, KTM is stepping up its game and is offering a lot more in terms of functionalities and capabilities. For starters, New 390 Adventure will be offered in multiple variants – 390 Adventure X and 390 Adventure R. The latter being the more exciting one of these two.

      Even though design, chassis and body panels are similar, 390 Adventure X is positioned below 390 Adventure R. X gets 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels, apt for touring. At 200 mm, suspension has less travel and is non-adjustable. It even misses out on cornering ABS and the instrumentation is LCD unit.

      In comparison, 390 Adventure R emerges as the more hardcore one as it packs a lot of off-road-worthy hardware. For starters, it gets fully adjustable suspension with 230 mm of travel, 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, higher ground clearance, a TFT instrument cluster, cruise control, dual-sport tyres and more.

      390 Adventure R also gets advanced rider aids like cornering ABS and MTC (Motorcycle Traction Control), among others. However, R has a seat height of 885 mm, which is substantially higher than X’s seat height of 825 mm.

      The same powertrain as 390 Duke

      The sharp and edgy bodywork, projector LED headlights, tall windscreen, knuckle guards, front beak, semi-fairing and fuel tank design are among the many attributes shared between both variants of New KTM 390 Adventure. They will also share the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that kicks out around 45 bhp and 40 Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.       Two variants – Adventure R, Adventure X
      A new teaser reveals the all-terrain capabilities of 2025 KTM 390 Adventure. While the current model is better suited for on-road environments, the new 390 Adventure will have two distinct variants. The 390 Adventure R variant is off-road capable, whereas the Adventure X model will continue with the tourer-centric profile. 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R gets an updated fascia that looks familiar to the new-gen Dukes.

      Key highlights include a sleek LED headlamp, signature LED DRLs, a large windscreen, raised fender, knuckle guards and circular rear-view mirrors. The bike has long-travel suspension – 230 mm at both front and rear. This will be advantageous for folks who are looking for some exciting off-road explorations.
      The front suspension is rebound and compression adjustable, whereas the rear monoshock suspension is preload and rebound adjustable. A new swingarm has been introduced to support the updated rear suspension. The bike uses an entirely new steel trellis frame at the front and an aluminium subframe at the rear.       Being an off-road capable bike, KTM 390 Adventure R gets 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels. Braking setup comprises 320 mm and 240 mm disc brakes at front and rear, respectively. The bike has rally-style seats with a narrow central section that allows riders to easily adjust their posture and seat position. The ergonomics also ensure easy riding while standing up. 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R has a seat height of 885 mm. While this may not be most appropriate for shorter riders, it is reported that KTM may offer tweaked versions based on the specific market.
      Cruise control
      Another important update is the addition of cruise control function. A dedicated button on the left switchgear activates the cruise control mode. By maintaining a constant speed, the cruise control function can be quite useful during long-distance touring.
      Tech upgrades include a new 5-inch, horizontally positioned TFT dashboard. Users can access ride modes of Rally, Street and Rain. A wide range of connectivity features will be available. The bike also gets a USB C charging port. Other highlights include Quickshifter+, traction control and cornering ABS.
      2025 KTM 390 Adventure X
      While chassis and bodywork will be the same, 390 Adventure X will have a slightly different equipment list. For example, the bike will have cast alloy wheels, 19-inch at front and 17-inch at the rear. Suspension travel is limited to 200 mm and suspension setup is non-adjustable. The bike has non-cornering ABS and an LCD dashboard. Seat height of 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X is 825 mm.       Now, KTM has added two entirely new body styles with 390 lineup – Enduro and SMC. Both motorcycles were just showcased at EICMA 2024. Before diving deep into Enduro and SMC, we have to start with 390 Adventure as it is the most popular one. For the next Gen 390 Adventure, KTM has been offering varied capabilities with the help of variants.

      390 Adventure is offered in X and R variants. Bodywork remains the same between the two, but only the 390 Adventure R variant gets TFT instrument cluster, cornering ABS and MTC. X variant is a more road-focused tourer with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels, non-adjustable front and rear suspension with 200 mm travel.

For starters, it ditches Adventure’s fairing and associated weight, making it more manageable to ride off-road. While it lacks a windscreen, it retains the front beak. Headlight and instrument clusters are a simpler units, unlike Adventure’s.
      2025 KTM 390 Enduro R
      Another new body style with KTM’s 390 lineup is SMC R, adhering to Supermoto genre. This is likely to be very popular owing to its fun quotient. The main differentiating factor is the 17-inch front and rear wheels wrapped with sporty tyres for maximum corner carving credentials. It gets unique styling with quirky elements, making it stand out within KTM’s 390 lineup.

Ahead of its debut at EICMA, details about the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure have been revealed. Let’s take a look at 2025 KTM 390 Adventure Variants ahead of debut.
      2025 KTM 390 Adventure R
      This variant is off-road capable and is equipped with adjustable suspension offering 230 mm of travel. With 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels, KTM 390 Adventure R has the capability to tackle challenging terrain. This setup is quite similar to Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 that has 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combo.
      The larger front wheel, coupled with long-travel suspension, ensures a higher ground clearance. The exact numbers are likely to be revealed at the EICMA. A rough estimate can be derived from the 230 mm of ground clearance available with Himalayan 450. KTM 390 Adventure R has seat height of 885 mm, making it a more capable off-roader.
      However, the number is high when compared to Himalayan 450 which has seat height in the range of 805 mm to 845 mm (with adjustability). KTM 390 Adventure R will be equipped with cornering ABS and MTC (Motorcycle Traction Control). Tech package for KTM 390 Adventure R has been upgraded with a new H50 TFT dashboard. As per KTM’s nomenclature, the H represents the orientation ‘Horizontal’ whereas the number represents the size of the screen.

      The 5-inch TFT display was recently introduced with 2024 KTM 250 Duke and 2024 KTM 200 Duke. It has improved visibility and a clear, concise user interface. Made from bonded glass, the new TFT colour display is designed for rough use. It supports Bluetooth, allowing users to access calls and music when paired with the smartphone. Riders will also be able to access turn-by-turn navigation. KTM 390 Adventure R is also expected to get new menu switches that can be used to navigate and control the functions on the TFT display.
      2025 KTM 390 Adventure X
      With relatively less features, the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X will be positioned below the KTM 390 Adventure R. While the chassis and bodywork will be the same, the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X gets smaller 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. This version has cast wheels, as compared to spoke wheels of Adventure R. Also, the suspension of 390 Adventure X is non-adjustable and has less travel at 200 mm.
      2025 KTM 390 Adventure X has non-cornering ABS and seat height of 825 mm. All these features indicate that this variant is better suited for on-road touring. Unlike the Adventure R that gets a new TFT display, the Adventure X continues with the LCD dashboard. With limited features, 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X will be priced lower than the Adventure R.

      While both these versions will be unveiled at EICMA, it is not certain if both will be available for sale in India. Having multiple versions on offer can be advantageous, as it can help target a larger customer base. Enthusiasts will also benefit, as they can choose according to their needs and preferences.

      One of India’s most popular ADVs, KTM 390 Adventure, is set to receive a major upgrade. There are two versions of this motorcycle as suggested by the different equipment shown by spy shots and official camo images.

      While the one spotted testing in India is the standard model geared more towards touring, a more off-road-friendly R version (R for Rally?) has been showcased recently in South Dakota, USA. Albeit draped in camouflage, this motorcycle showcased by KTM at a rally event seemed to have finalised equipment.
      The R version gets off-road-friendly components like 21-inch front wheel, knobby tyres, fully adjustable suspension and more ground clearance. We also saw handlebar risers, round ORVMs and knuckle guards among others. While most of these elements will not make it to the standard model, there is one feature that will.

      We’re talking about cruise control feature seen with the recent spy shots of the showcased motorcycle in USA. The motorcycle gets ride-by-wire (electronic throttle) which enables the motorcycle to adjust and maintain speeds set by the cruise control system. This is a very handly feature to have while long-distance touring.
      Reducing rider inputs for a relaxed experience is the purpose of this feature. It is controlled by the left switchgear. We can see a dedicated button to enable cruise control and a + button to increase the speed or reset it. We also hope there is cornering cruise control in the package as well.

      What else does it get?
      The 2025 KTM 390 ADV comes with a major redesign, taking its edgy design language to a whole new level. We have a vertically stacked headlight setup along with a tall windscreen. The semi-fairing is sharp and there is a long beak for that quintessential ADV look. Final details will be revealed at 2024 EICMA Show, where it will be fully revealed.

      It will be powered by the same 399 cc DOHC 4V liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine capable of generating around 45 bhp and 40 Nm. A host of electronics are expected with this motorcycle. Also, advanced instrumentation via a 5-inch TFT unit with Bluetooth connectivity suite is also standard.
