Kia Carens Clavis EV To Debut On 15th July – India’s First 7S Electric MPV

Kia Carens Clavis EV SpiedBeing one of its kind in India, the Kia Carens Clavis EV will benefit from a first-mover advantage
With the Indian auto industry witnessing rapid growth, Kia may be aiming to push its market share into double digits. As part of that plan, Kia launched the Syros SUV in February, followed by the Carens Clavis MPV in May this year. Next in the pipeline is Carens Clavis EV, which is set to debut on 15th July. Let’s check out the details.
    Powertrain, features from Creta Electric
To reduce development and production cost, Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to borrow the powertrain from Creta Electric. In that case, the Clavis EV could get same battery pack options of 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. With the Creta Electric, certified range is 390 km and 473 km, respectively (as per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 Cycle). Both variants use a front-axle mounted electric motor, with power output of 135 PS and 171 PS, respectively.
Clavis EV being larger and heavier, it could have a slightly less range. Similar to Creta Electric, the Clavis EV has the charging port mounted at the front. Assuming Clavis EV has the same battery pack options as the Creta Electric, both AC fast charging and DC fast charging will be available.
    Kia Carens Clavis Electric Spied
With an 11 kW AC fast charger, 10% to 100% charge can be achieved in 4 hours for the 42-kWh variant and 4 hours 50 minutes for the 51.4 kWh variant. With a 50 kW DC fast charger, 10% to 80% can be achieved in 58 minutes for both variants. Similar to Creta Electric, the Clavis EV is expected to get an ADAS-linked regenerative braking system. Also on offer could be paddle shifters for adjustable regenerative braking.
Various other features could be common with Creta Electric such as rear AC vents and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L). Many features will be the same as ICE Carens Clavis such as Boss function for the front passenger seat. Also, dual panoramic display panel, 4-way power adjustable driver seat, front ventilated seats, smart air purifier and BOSE premium sound system with 8-speakers.
    Styling, safety package
As seen in spy shots, Carens Clavis EV will be largely the same as the ICE Carens Clavis. Key highlights include Star Map LED DRLs with integrated turn signals, Ice Cube MFR LED headlamps, Star Map LED connected tail lamps and robust front and rear skid plates. However, there will be some unique aspects such as the aero-optimized alloy wheels.
Kia Carens EV and Hyundai Creta EV Testing Together
Safety package for Kia Carens Clavis EV will include 6-airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist control (HAC), vehicle stability management (VSM), downhill brake control (DBC), brake assist system (BAS) and all wheel disc brakes. Clavis EV will also have a comprehensive ADAS Level 2 package with around 20 autonomous features.
To encourage buyers to switch to electric, the Kia Carens Clavis EV could be offered at a starting price of around Rs 16-18 lakh. In the future, Kia will be looking to add more mass-market EVs to its Indian portfolio. Electric versions of Syros and Seltos could be introduced. There’s also scope for products like Kia EV3 and EV5. More

New Kia Carens EV Spied While Getting Charged

    New Kia Carens EV Spied
Kia is on the verge of launching its maiden mass-market electric offering. This vehicle has been spied testing multiple times and is speculated to be packing the same powertrain as Hyundai Creta Electric. The recent test mules of this upcoming Kia EV have been spied charging from its front charging port while donning registration plates from Tamil Nadu State. Let’s take a closer look.
    New Kia Carens EV Spied
One of India’s leading car manufacturers, Kia, has been expanding its portfolio to incorporate more premium vehicles. The company is launching a new premium MPV positioned above Carens, which will also spawn an electric version. The recent test mule is the electric version and was spied at a charging station while being fully covered.
New Kia Carens EV Front Charging Port
Based out of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, most of the test mules of Kia vehicles usually bear temporary (Red) AP registration plates. However, the latest test mules of Kia Carens EV spied, donned Tamil Nadu registration plates. Because this vehicle was covered, it creates a slight confusion of being a Hyundai vehicle.
Kia Carens EV Front Charging Port
However, that is not the case as the wheels on this particular vehicle are unmistakably Kia Carens EV. Another confusion leaning towards a Hyundai test mule probability is the front charging port, which is also seen on Hyundai Creta Electric. That said, previous test mules of Kia Carens EV have established that it is donning a front charging port as well.
Upcoming Electric Cars In 2025 – Kia Carens EV and Hyundai Creta EV
The reason why Carens EV test mule has a front charging port is because it is speculated to be packing the same powertrain as Creta Electric. In the past, both Creta Electric and Carens EV have been spied testing together as well. That could explain the Tamil Nadu registration plates on this particular vehicle.
    What to expect?
If this turns out to be true, Kia Carens EV might offer the same 42 kWh pack good for a claimed 390 km on a single charge and the larger 51.4 kWh pack good for a claimed 473 km on a single charge. Peak power might be the same at 170 bhp and 255 Nm from a single motor driving the front wheels.
    New Kia Carens EV
New Kia Carens EV will carry forward Carens’ overall silhouette while bringing EV5’s front and rear design language along with Kia’s signature geometric alloy wheel design. It is less likely to carry forward the Carens name, though. Syros-inspired interiors with the 30-inch Trinity Display are a possibility with Level-2 ADAS, Kia Connect 2.0 and other features.

Creta EV, Carens EV Spied Together In Varanasi – To Share Parts, Powertrain ?

Creta EV, Carens EV Spied Together
With mass market products like Creta EV and Carens EV, Hyundai and Kia will be gearing up for the tough competition ahead
In the next few years, the EV segment will witness several new product launches from most of the leading brands. For the mainstream EV market, Hyundai and Kia will be placing their bets initially on Creta EV and Carens EV. These were recently spotted on road tests in Varanasi by automotive enthusiast Abhishek.
Kia Carens EV – What to expect?
Carens EV will be based on the ICE Carens facelift model that is expected to arrive in mid-2025. Spy shots reveal that Carens EV has new alloy wheels. Since it will be based on the ICE facelift model, some changes are expected across the front fascia. Much of the sheet metal will be common for both Carens EV and ICE Carens facelift. An earlier test vehicle was spotted with a new, more robust suspension setup. That will be necessary to bear the load of the battery pack.
    Kia Carens EV Spied
To expand its market reach, Carens EV is expected to be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater options. Features on the inside will be borrowed mostly from the ICE model. The Carens facelift has a number of exterior and interior features similar to the EV5. Some key highlights include dual 10.25-inch screens, a 360° camera and a panoramic sunroof. Carens EV will be getting a comprehensive range of ADAS features.
Hyundai Creta EV – Key features
As evident from the test vehicle, Creta EV has the same silhouette as that of the ICE variant. However, some distinctive features are evident such as the new design for the alloy wheels. These are aerodynamic, low drag units that can boost performance and range. Changes are likely at the front as well. Creta EV will be getting a closed-off grille and exclusive badging to highlight its electric underpinnings.
    Hyundai Creta EV Spied
Earlier spy shots had revealed that Creta EV will be getting a new circular steering wheel with a 3-spoke design. One of the test vehicles was seen with distinctive ‘CRETA electric’ badging on the upholstery. To achieve a differentiation with the ICE mode, Creta EV is expected to get new interior theme options. Choices for the ambient lighting can also be more dynamic in comparison to the ICE model.
Equipment list for Creta EV will be largely the same as that of the ICE model. However, some new features are likely, especially the ones possible only with an electric car. This approach may also be aimed at motivating potential customers to make the switch to electric. Features borrowed from the ICE variant will include dual 10.25-inch screens, front ventilated seats and panoramic sunroof. Creta EV will have leather wrapped steering wheel, electric parking brake with auto hold, USB ports and wireless charger.
Hyundai Creta EV is expected to get a 45-kWh battery pack, linked to a 138 hp electric motor. Certified range could be around 450 km, whereas real-world range may be approximately 350 km. It is highly likely that the powertrain option could be common for Creta EV and Carens EV. More
