Hyundai Kona Electric Vs Creta Petrol, Diesel – Cost After 80k Kms

Hyundai Kona Electric owner has spent a total of Rs 2.07 lakh on charging and maintenance of his carHyundai Kona ElectricWhile electric vehicles (EVs) are the future of mobility, their high purchase cost prevents them from penetrating into the mass market. However, EVs ace their IC engine counterparts when it comes to running costs. It is no hidden fact that fuel prices have seen an exorbitant rise in the past few months. Many people have already started to make the transition from petrol and diesel-powered vehicles to emission-free battery-powered vehicles. In the passenger vehicle space, Hyundai Kona Electric was one of the first electric cars to be introduced in India. Team-BHP member ADI7YAK has shared interesting details on the expenses incurred for charging and maintaining Hyundai Kona Electric vs that of a Creta Petrol or diesel after driving 80,000 kms.Hyundai Kona Electric Charging CostCharging cost of Hyundai Kona Electric – For 80,000 kmsHyundai Kona EV owner has shared that he has owned a Kona EV for twenty months which recently clocked 80 thousand kilometers. He has provided a detailed cost breakup of owning and maintaining the car and a rough calculation of how much money he has saved in comparison to petrol automatic and diesel automatic cars of a similar size and price.Owner of Kona EV mentions that in order to achieve 80,000km on the odometer, a total of 11 megawatts of electricity were used. This includes both public and home charging setup. For this, the owner had to spend a total cost of Rs. 91480. Around 90 percent of the charging was done via home charging while the rest were done from public charging stations.Charging cost of Hyundai Kona Electric – For 80,000 kmsHe further mentions that public chargers are more expensive but also quicker than standard home wall chargers. Getting into more details, the owner reveals that he has spent around Rs 18,500 on maintaining his car which includes regular service and other wear and tear items such as wiper blades, bulbs, etc. By his standards, this amount is very cheap.Charging cost of Hyundai Kona Electric – For 80,000 kmsThe highest cost of maintenance Rs 47,800 was incurred by a change in tyres which were replaced after 50,000km. After taking into account each and every cost attached, the owner reported an average running cost of Rs 1.37 per km. This was compared against the running cost of petrol- and diesel-powered Creta.Cost Comparison With Diesel, Petrol-powered CretaAfter collecting data from Creta owners, the Kona EV user came to realise that Creta petrol automatic owners would have to spend almost around Rs 7.00 lakh for the car to clock 80,000 km on its odometer. In case of a Creta diesel automatic, it would be around Rs 5.41 lakh. Both these figures are much greater than Rs 91,480 spent by the Kona EV user on electricity.Maintenance cost of Hyundai Kona Electric – For 80,000 kmsTherefore, savings in case of Kona EV stands at Rs 6,08 lakh and Rs 4.50 lakh when compared with petrol- and diesel-powered Creta. Top-end petrol variant of Creta costs Rs. 21.16 lakh while its diesel-powered counterpart would cost Rs 21.65 lakh. On the other hand, Kona EV costs Rs 25.3 lakhs. Therefore, for a total distance of over 80,000km, the additional cost of an EV is compensated and savings begin.Hyundai Kona Electric Vs Creta Petrol, Diesel and HexaSource More

Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric Car Debuts – Based On Kia EV6 Platform

Hyundai Ioniq 6 will rival the likes of Tesla Model 3 – It is 4,855 mm long and 1,880 mm wideHyundai Ioniq 6 Electric CarHyundai, along with its sister brand Kia, is slowly emerging as an EV leader globally. Even though Hyundai and Kia have decent products in their portfolio, they didn’t have a product that would directly rival Tesla’s hot cake, Model 3. Until now.Even with all the EVs that are pitted against Tesla, the American EV maker is still the top dog with its EV range consisting of Model S, 3, X, Y. Hey, I didn’t do this, Elon did. With the South Korean duo pushing their EV envelope further, we can expect the market to heat up considerably.Hyundai Ioniq 6 – Design & FeaturesIoniq 6 has a design that is a culmination of a lot of inspirations from German car manufacturers. But no matter how many cars you can see in it, it is still quite a looker with a swooping roof and coupe design. From the front, it draws a lot of inspiration from Porsche Taycan EV. It gets a similar headlight layout, bonnet shape and a lot more elements. From the side, the beautiful swooping roof and coupe-like roofline ring any bell to you? It immediately reminds us of the now discontinued Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class with its curvaceous body shape. CLA-Class was one of the prettiest cars from Mercedes-Benz and it also came with frameless doors that enhanced its overall drama.Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric CarComing to the rear profile, we are hard-pressed not to compare it with Porsche’s design language. The ducktail spoiler found on the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is lifted straight off Porsche’s iconic 911 series ducktail spoilers. Even the rear shape and the LED light bar connecting the tail-lights is a typical modern Porsche design philosophy. Ask Ferdinand Porsche, he would approve with us.Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric CarHyundai seems to be following the “Same same, but different” kind of design philosophy. If we look at Hyundai Ioniq 6 in isolation and without comparing it with cars mentioned above, even though it is very hard not to, it is a looker. To amplify the design further, it gets stylish alloy wheels too.The most impressive aspect of this car’s design is its 0.21 Cd air drag coefficient. It ain’t no Mercedes-Benz EQS at 0.209 Cd air drag coefficient, but is still very impressive. The flush door handles and streamlined cameras replacing the mirrors certainly help in achieving such a low air drag coefficient.Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric CarLaunch TimelineOn the inside, it radiates a minimalist vibe with dual 12” screens dominating the dashboard. Most of the car’s functionalities are expected to be controlled with these screens. Hyundai Ioniq 6 is expected to get a 77 kWh battery pack with either a single or dual motor layout with AWD. This combination might be good enough to yield 400 km to 500 km of range from a single charge.Hyundai hasn’t revealed a launch timeline for the Ioniq 6. When launched, it will compete with Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2, Kia EV6, VW ID.5 and the likes. India launch could also be planned. But before the Ioniq 6, Hyundai will bring the Ioniq 5 to India. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric Car Spied In India – Getting Transported On Trucks

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric CarImport units of the Ioniq 5 have been spotted in the Burdwan District of West BengalThe Eastern part of the country gets to witness multiple new car models being transported through its roads. This is because the road network there helps with the connectivity for some of the neighbouring land-locked countries. In the past too, we have seen models like the Toyota Hilux, 2022 Hyundai Tucson etc being transported through West Bengal or other neighbouring states. Most of these models are import units for neighbouring countries like Nepal or Bhutan, which don’t have any car manufacturing plant.Recently, import units of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car were spotted on the NH 2, near the Burdwan District of West Bengal. In all likelihood, these were units which will get sold in one of the neighbouring countries, which don’t have access to a direct sea port. Hat tip to automotive enthusiast Chirag Mitra for sharing the exclusive spy shots.2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric CarTalking about the Ioniq 5, it had made its global debut around a year ago in Feb’21. It is the first Hyundai model which is based on its Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Interestingly, the electric SUV recently received a facelift for the European markets. 2022MY brought in minor updates to the exteriors and the powertrain too.2022 Hyundai IONIQ5 In IndiaThe 2022 Ioniq 5 draws power from a 77.4 kWh battery pack, which is slightly larger than the 72.6 kWh battery set-up which was found on the 2021 model. The pre-facelift model had a claimed range of 485 kms however the new model should be capable to cross the 500 kms mark easily.Other new features on the 2022 Ioniq 5 include introduction of optional digital mirrors, which were initially offered only in South Korean market earlier. The 2 optional mirror sets include a Digital Centre Mirror (DCM) which provides an unobstructed, panoramic rear facing view of the car. The Digital Side Mirrors (DSM) reduce air resistance and provides the driver with an enhanced rear view even in bad weather. The 2022 model has also received Smart Frequency Dampers (SFD), which improves ride comfort and handling.2022 Hyundai IONIQ5 In IndiaCurrently, there are reports which suggest that Hyundai might bring the Ioniq 5 to the country, mostly via the CBU route. Being a CBU, the Ioniq 5 might be priced at a premium, thanks to the duties and taxes. If brought to the country, the Ioniq 5 will be launched with the intent to strengthen Hyundai’s presence in the Electric mobility segment and not essentially as a number churner for the OEM’s top-line.Hyundai India’s Way AheadHyundai India is currently under considerable pressure as its position as the second largest OEM of the country is under threat. Homegrown automaker, Tata Motors has been posting record increase in its sales and eyeing the coveted number 2 spot which Hyundai has maintained for the last decade or so.Hyundai India has some aggressive plans to bring in multiple updates to its line-up this year, through which it would want to hold on to the second spot. Hyundai Venue Electric SUV Launch Likely – Tata Nexon EV Rival

Hyundai Venue Electric SUV Render by Moto ShowHyundai plans to launch 6 new electric cars in India – Some of them will be based on their global platform while some will be based on their existing petrol / diesel cars
Hyundai Motor India plans for a new electrification journey. This announcement comes at a time when Maruti Suzuki states that it will launch an electric vehicle in India only once its notes sufficient customer demand by 2025. Tata Motors, a leader in the electric vehicle segment, has plans to introduce 10 new electric vehicles over the coming 3 to 4 years.
Even as Hyundai India’s electric offering currently only includes the Kona Electric SUV in India, things are about to change. As Hyundai expects a 53 percent surge in EV sales by 2028, the company has revealed its plans to embark on an extensive electrification journey. The project will include a total of 6 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV’s) which will span different segments and body styles including sedans and SUVs.
    E-GMP (Electric Global Modular) platform
Hyundai’s upcoming electric vehicles covering both mass and premium segments, will be positioned on modified platforms and a dedicated E-GMP (Electric Global Modular) platform in India. The E-GMP platform, that spawns the iONIQ 5, will consist of a vehicle chassis that includes battery, motor and power electric system. It will receive scalable dimensions allowing for different body types while the vehicles will boast of a flat floor, sleek cockpit and spacious cabin.
The platform has been developed on 4 pillars of Modularity, Reliability, Usability and Performance. Modularity means that this single platform will span different body types. It will be reliable to offer a lower center of gravity with Ultra High Strength Steel and 8 point battery mounting facilities while the flat floor and adjustable seating layout will ensure better interior space with sliding 2nd row seats.
Hyundai India Electric Car Launch Plans 2028 – Rs 4k Cr Investment
Where performance is concerned, there will be battery ratings upto 77.4 kWh and two wheel and four wheel drive capabilities along with improved handling and the capacity to reach a top speed of 260 km/h. Hyundai Motor India, Managing Director SS Kim states that high-speed electrification of the automotive sector has become a reality, with the share of EVs rising to as high as a fifth of the total in several markets.
    Made In India Electric Cars
Apart from the premium E-GMP based electric cars, Hyundai also has plans to launch electric cars based on their existing lineup of ICE (petrol / diesel) vehicles. Though Hyundai has not revealed which of their existing cars will be launched as an electric car, they did say that SUVs will be a focus area.
It will not be surprising if they start their ICE to EV journey from the likes of Venue or even the Creta. Tata Nexon EV is the highest selling electric car in the PV segment today. Hyundai Venue electric SUV will be a direct rival to the Nexon EV upon launch. They could also launch an entry level electric car based on i10 NIOS, which may become their most affordable EV in India.
    Charging Network
Even as the electric vehicle segment in India is still in its nascent state, this is about to change. Hyundai’s electrification plan will see an investment to the tune of Rs 4,000 crores in India. This will be used for R&D of the upcoming EVs as well as developing supporting infrastructure.
A recent study reveals that EV sales in the country could increase at a compounded annual growth rate of 53 percent to 1.75 lakh units by 2028 from 6,000 units in 2020. There are over 79,000 fast chargers being set up by various companies by 2025, up from 2,900 in 2021, which will dispel owner’s anxieties and see more electric vehicles on the road. More

Hyundai SEVEN Electric SUV Concept Debuts With Autonomous Tech

Hyundai SEVEN Electric Concept SUVExpected to launch in 2024, the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 7 will be underpinned by the same E-GMP architecture as IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6
Hyundai has unveiled the Seven Concept SUV at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show 2021 which previews the South Korean automaker’s future sport utility electric vehicles (SUEV). In its final production form, which is expected to make its debut in 2024, the Seven Concept will be retailed as the Ioniq 7 electric SUV.
Future EVs from Hyundai will be sold exclusively under the company’s subsidiary brand- Ioniq. The Seven Concept is based on the same Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) which currently underpins Ioniq 5 and its cousin Kia EV6. This architecture also underpins the upcoming Kia EV9 Concept.
Proportions of the Seven Concept are expected to be around the same region as the carmaker’s current flagship SUV- Palisade. Offering a wheelbase of 3,200mm, the Seven Concept has a very long side profile which translates to a spacious cabin.
The Seven Concept holds great significance for Hyundai since the company plans to go all-electric by 2045. As with most automobile concepts, the Seven Concept SUV looks futuristic and a little too gimmicky which suggests it’s far away from being production-ready at this point. The Korean carmaker has carried forward a neo-retro design of Ioniq 5 into the concept SUV.
    Hyundai SEVEN Electric Concept SUV
    Exterior Design
Notable exterior highlights include ‘Parametric Pixel’ lights up front, a faux mesh grille and vertical fog lamps giving the SUV’s face an elegant look. The SUV rides on chunky 5-spoke alloy wheels with ‘Active Air’ flaps, which deploy or retract for brake cooling and low-drag purposes respectively. The roofline also tapers down gently lending it a slight coupe-like appearance.
The side profile features more exotic highlights such as pillar-less coach doors, roof rails, squarish wheel arches and retracting cameras that replace traditional wing mirrors. At rear, the Seven Concept gets an all-glass tailgate with pixel-like tail-lights and an illuminated Hyundai logo.
    Interiors & Features
Inside the cabin, the SUV offers a very different layout from a conventional three-row SUV. While the first- and second-row receive swiveling lounge chairs, the third-row features a wrap-around sofa-type configuration. Passengers can witness their favourite visuals on a massive OLED screen on the glass roof. Moreover, the doors open outwards like a Rolls Royce.
    Hyundai SEVEN Electric Concept SUV
As luxurious as it is, the cabin of Seven Concept has been built with sustainable materials and renewable resources like mineral plaster, copper, bamboo wood, recycled fabric and bamboo wood. In addition, the cabin has been laced with amenities such as a mini-fridge, a shoe-care compartment, UVC lights that sanitize the car’s interiors and a Hygiene Airflow System.
    Specifications
The Korean carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the battery and motor specifications but Ioniq 7 is expected to be powered by a dual-motor setup which could derive its energy from a battery pack of 80 kWh capacity. The concept model is said to offer a range of over 480km on a single charge. On being connected to a 350kW fast charger, the battery can be juiced up from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. More

Hyundai Kona Electric Owners Affected By Recall – Get Their Car Back After 2 Month Wait

    Image – Akhil Krishnan
The shift to electric is inevitable, but new challenges are emerging for EV makers

A recent example is that of Hyundai Kona, which had to undergo a large-scale recall across the globe. The recall was extended to India last year, applicable for Kona units manufactured between the period April 2019 to October 2020. Hyundai had sold a total of 456 units during this period, all of which were covered under the voluntary recall notice.
    Kona battery issue
Kona recall was carried out to check potential issues with the car’s high-voltage battery management system (BMS). Some users had reported that their Kona would stall after a warning on the MID that asks them to check electric vehicle system. In such cases, most owners had to get their Kona towed to the service centre.
There were conflicting reports as well, wherein a user had said that the problem could be fixed by restarting the engine. However, even if true, such temporary solutions cannot be expected to be the norm for a premium EV like Kona.
    An expensive recall
Customers in India have started getting back their Kona after spending several weeks at the workshop. It’s taking longer to patch up the EV, as the entire battery unit is being replaced by Hyundai. It’s not certain if all Kona units will have to undergo the same process, but a significant percentage will have to be updated in this manner.
Hyundai Kona Electric delivered to owner after getting fixed
Akhil Krishnan is one such owner, who recently got his Kona back after the fix said that Hyundai has replaced the entire battery unit. His Kona had to spend two and a half months at the service centre while it was being fixed.
Globally, around 76,000 Kona units are covered under the recall. This will make this recall an expensive exercise for Hyundai. The company has said that it will carry out all the needed updates completely free of cost.
Recalls are not only expensive, but they also impact customer trust and confidence in an adverse manner. EVs are supposed to make things easier for users, but if there are persistent issues, it may prevent people from switching to electric.
    Hyundai Kona Electric battery replacement
    Kona specs
Hyundai Kona electric gets its power from a 39.2 kWh Lithium-ion Polymer battery pack. Power is send to a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) that generates 136 ps and 395 Nm of torque. Kona has ARAI certified range of 452 km, which is the highest in its class. The range varies based on the drive mode selected – Eco, Comfort and Sport. Kona can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.7 seconds.
In terms of safety, Hyundai Kona offers six airbags, vehicle stability management, hill start assist control, electronic stability control, virtual engine sound system for pedestrian safety and ISOFIX child seat mounts. More

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Electric Car Debuts With 470 Kms Range

    Hyundai IONIQ 5 Electric Car
Hyundai Ioniq 5 goes on sale later this year in developed countries

Hyundai has revealed its ambitious Ioniq 5 electric vehicle which is the first offering under the Korean automaker’s electric sub-brand. The mid-sized electric crossover is expected to spearhead the Ioniq brand of EVs in future. The company had earlier revealed its intention of launching 23 new electric cars between now and 2023.
    Exterior Styling
Available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations, Ioniq 5 sports a futuristic design with a contrasting blend of retro-inspired styling which derives most of its elements from the Hyundai 45 concept. This includes its overall silhouette and angular creases running across its profile.
It marks a departure from the traditional design of Hyundai cars and features pixelated headlights and taillights, unique daytime running lights and a clamshell bonnet which is a first for the Korean brand. Ioniq 5 rides on aero-optimized 20-inch alloy wheels that further resonate with the Parametric Pixel design theme. Its unique proportions and short overhangs are due to an extended wheelbase which also translates to ample space inside the cabin.
Speaking of proportions, Ioniq 5 measures 4635mm in length, 1890mm and 1605mm tall in addition to a very generous wheelbase of 3000mm. It is built on an Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that will also underpin future EVs from both Hyundai and Kia.
    Hyundai IONIQ 5 Electric Car
The upcoming Ioniq 6 saloon and Ioniq 7 SUV will be underpinned by the same architecture. As usual with most electric cars, it features a skateboard layout giving a flat interior floor.
    Interior & Features on offer
Hyundai carries forward the minimalist approach of its exterior design to its interior and yet is in line with all modern premium cars around. The dashboard is dominated by a twin-screen setup which includes a large 12-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and an equally large digital instrument cluster. Majority of the components inside the cabin have been made from wool, recycled plastics, eco-processed leather, and other sustainable sources.
Another interesting feature in its equipment is a head-up display compatible with augmented reality. This functionality projects information on navigation on the windscreen.
    Hyundai IONIQ 5 Electric Car
Furthermore, the infotainment features the latest version of Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech which offers new functionalities such as Routing and Last Mile Navigation. It also displays information on the nearest charging station including availability and estimated charging time.
    Powertrain Setup & Performance
Coming to its powertrain, it features a single or twin (in AWD variant) electric motor setup which draws its power from either of the batteries- a 58 kWh or a 72.6 kWh. When paired with the former, it can produce an output of 167 bhp and can clock a 0-100 kmph sprint in 8.5 seconds.
    Hyundai IONIQ 5 Electric Car
On the other hand, when paired to the larger battery pack it returns a massive output of 302 bhp and 605 Nm of peak torque. This version of the SUV could accelerate 0-100 kmph in just 5.2 seconds and can clock a top speed of 185 kmph.
The maximum single-charge range offered in Ioniq is claimed to be around 470-480 km according to WLTP cycle. Its charging time is one of the quickest in modern contemporary EVs. Using a 220kW DC fast charger, it takes only 18 minutes to replenish the battery from 10% to 18 percent. Hyundai claims that to obtain a range of 100km users need to charge for only 5 minutes. More
