2022 Honda Rebel 250cc Cruiser
Honda Rebel 250 has been positioned as an entry-level cruiser in Honda’s lineup
Honda has taken the covers off from its latest cruiser offering Rebel 250. The new Rebel 250 will sit at the bottom of the Japanese brand’s cruiser motorcycles lineup. Other models in this range include Rebel 300, Rebel 500 and Rebel 1100. The 2022 Rebel 250 comes wrapped in a new Pearl Spencer Blue colour option in Japan.

However, this paint scheme has been reserved for the top-spec Rebel 250 S Edition. The bike is seen wearing a dark blue metallic paint which is prominent on its fuel tank as well as the rear fender. Rest of the parts including the motorcycle’s engine and gearbox assembly and hardware setup have been painted black.
This creates a nice sporty contrast that looks bold and fiery This premium variant of the cruiser bike also comes with diamond-stitched split-style seats, fork gaiters and a headlamp cowl as standard fitments.
The standard edition of Rebel 250 is still available with a matte grey shade and tan brown seats. Some other highlights include a round headlamp, a stubby rear fender and circular rearview mirrors. No other changes have been made to the bike.

Features & Specifcations
In terms of features, the new Rebel 250 has been equipped with full LED lighting with a quad projector headlight and a fully digital circular instrument cluster. Suspension duties on the motorcycle are carried out by conventional telescopic forks at front and twin shock absorbers attached to the swingarm at rear. Braking duties are handled by single disc brakes at both ends with calipers from Nissin. This is aided by a dual-channel ABS.
Powering Rebel 250 is a 249cc single-cylinder engine that delivers an output of 25.6 bhp and 22 Nm of peak torque. This motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Rebel 250 gets an extremely low seat height of 690mm and forward-set footpegs which offer a very relaxed and comfortable riding posture. The bike tips the weighing scales at 177 kilos.
Rebel in India?
The new Rebel 250 goes on sale in Japan starting January 20, 2022 with prices starting at about Rs 4 lakh. This bike is unlikely to make its way to India shores. However, there have been rumours of Honda bringing the more premium Rebel 500 to India this year, unfortunately, its launch has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic.
Honda doesn’t offer a single cruiser motorcycle in India but instead has found success by launching a retro-style classic roadster in the form of CB350. 2022 Honda NT1100Honda NT1100 will be available in two derivatives 1100A and 1100D offering manual and automatic transmissions respectively
Honda has officially taken the wraps off from its upcoming sports tourer NT1100 for global markets. As many have already guessed, the upcoming NT1000 is a road-biased iteration of CRF1100L Africa Twin which is a proper adventure tourer. The styling of NT1100 clearly reveals that it shares its DNA with Africa Twin.
While CRF1100L has been developed to take on challenging trails, NT1100 has been designed to gobble long distances. It will be positioned to bridge the gap between the 750cc touring range and the flagship Gold Wing in Honda’s global lineup. As of now, it has only been offered in European markets but is expected to be shipped to other parts of the world soon.
2022 Honda NT1100 – Design
Like many other contemporary sports tourers, NT1100 shows shades of an ADV bike in its styling. It flaunts a twin-beam LED headlight setup with integrated LED DRLs and a heavily faired front end. On top of that, it features a large windscreen that is five-way adjustable for height and angle, and it’s aided by wind deflectors on either side.
Other styling highlights include split-style seats, a single-sided twin-barrel exhaust, a single-piece grab rail that extends into a luggage mounting rack and a pannier box on each side which is available as standard. The motorcycle will be offered in three paint schemes namely Matte Iridium Grey Metallic, Pearl Glare White, and Graphite Black.

Hardware Configurations
NT1100 is underpinned by a chassis that comprises a steel, semi-double cradle frame and a bolt-on aluminium subframe employed in the Africa Twin. However, suspension setup has been tweaked a little which offers 150mm lesser travel on both ends in comparison to Africa Twin. It features 43 mm Showa USD forks at front and a Showa mono-shock at rear.
Further, NT1100 rides on shorter 17-inch front and rear wheels instead of larger 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels on its ADV sibling. This has resulted in a lowered saddle height of 820mm which provides more comfortable riding ergonomics. Braking is handled by 310 mm twin discs with radially-mounted calipers up front and a single 256 mm disc at the back. These are accompanied by a dual-channel ABS.
Features & Powertrain
In terms of features, Honda has provided NT1100 a 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen display that offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity options. It also features a plethora of rider aids such as Wheelie Control, Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), three default riding modes- Urban, Rain, Tour and two customisable riding modes.

Powering the new NT1100 is a familiar 1,084cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine which also propels CRF1100L. This unit pumps out 101 bhp at 7,250rpm and a peak torque of 104 Nm at 6,250rpm. The engine gets the same 10.1:1 compression ratio and 270° phased crankshaft but air intake has been revised a little to suit highway cruising.
Honda will be offering NT1100 in two derivatives- NT1100A and NT1100D, the former is slightly more affordable at £11,999 while the latter carries a price tag of £12,999 in the UK market. This is because the A trim is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox while the D iteration comes with a DCT automatic gearbox. Although volumes are still low, things are moving in the right direction for electric two-wheeler segment. With huge subsidies, increased range and massive investment in charging infrastructure, consumers are willing to shift to electric. More momentum is expected in coming years, as established players like Hero MotoCorp, Honda, and Yamaha enter this space.
Honda new electric scooter
India’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is expected to launch their first electric scooter in India in 2022-23. Although details about the scooter are not available, the plans have been confirmed by HMSI president Atsushi Ogata. It is known that the company is currently testing the BENLY e electric scooter.
However, it is not certain if BENLY e is the product that will be launched in India. The scooter was showcased in 2019 at Tokyo Motor Show. BENLY e has been positioned as an electric two-wheeler for commercial use. So, the one meant for India could be an entirely new electric scooter. Globally, Honda Motor has plans to launch three new electric two-wheelers for personal use by 2024.
Eye on global markets
Along with domestic sales, Honda will be aiming to introduce its made-in-India electric scooter to international markets as well. The plan is to achieve a high level of localization. Honda is currently carrying out discussion with various component suppliers. Ogata said that due to its global plans, the launch has been shifted to next financial year. If the electric scooter was to be sold only in domestic market, it could have been launched this year itself.

An advantageous factor for Honda is that it already has the expertise and knowhow to develop an electric two-wheeler. The company is likely to use the Honda Mobile Power Pack (MPP) for its electric two-wheeler. MPP is environment friendly in the real sense, as it uses electricity produced though renewable energy sources such as solar power. MPP can also be used for other electric products such as e-rickshaws. Demand for the latter has consistently increased in India.
Talks with dealers
Honda is likely to hold discussion with its dealers to ensure that their business is not adversely impacted with the entry of electric two-wheelers. Since electric two-wheelers require relatively less service and maintenance, it could impact dealer profitability. To avoid such issues and protect its dealer network, Honda is working on various solutions.
One possibility is to equip dealer facilities with battery charging stations. This will create a new revenue source for dealers. It will be beneficial for users as well.
With localization, it is expected that HMSI will be able to launch its electric scooter at a competitive price point. If it has ample range and features, Honda electric scooter could emerge as another bestseller. The biggest success story so far in electric segment is that of Ola Electric. Honda Two-Wheelers has crossed the 5 crore / 50 million sales milestone in India. Having started its solo operations in 2001, following its separation from Hero MotoCorp, the company caters to a wide range of buyers with a host of motorcycles and scooters, each targeting a different customer base. Earlier this year, Hero MotoCorp celebrated 100 million sales milestone.
Honda has achieved this milestone over past 2 decades. The first 1 crore (10 million) customer base was in the initial 11 years to touch a 2 crore sales milestone in 3 years and then on to 2.5 crores in 16 years. The fastest growth, at triple the speed, has been reported in the past 5 years when the next 2.5 crore customers were added taking a total tally to 5 crores. Helping Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) on this momentous journey has been the Honda Activa. Launched in 2001, this scooter has many feathers in its cap. It is the country’s highest selling scooter and has been receiving several updates over the years. The Activa range consists of Activa 6G and Activa 125.
The Dio scooter along with the Grazia have also added to the company success and both these models are set to get new variants as per documents filed with the RTO. Activa variants listed in the document include Activa 6G and Activa 6G LED. There will also be four variants of Dio listed as Dio, Dio with digital speedometer, Dio with 3D emblem, Dio with digital speedometer and 3D emblem, each of which get composite cast wheels.

Honda’s Journey 1999-2021
Starting with the company’s incorporation in 1999, HMSI set up its first production unit in Manesar from where the Honda Activa made its debut. Exports of the company commenced in 2002 while the Unicorn 150cc marked its entry in 2004 while in the same year, the Activa scooter emerged as the No.1 brand in the country.
In 2006, HMSI introduced the Shine 125cc motorcycle and in 2008, despite an economic slowdown, the company managed to sustain double digit growth. An industry first Combi-Brake System with equalizer technology was launched in 2009 and in 2011, the company opened its 2nd manufacturing unit in Tapukara, Rajasthan.
Following its entry into the mass motorcycle 110cc segment in 2012, the company also inaugurated a new technical center with integrated SEDBQ function while a 3rd plant in Narsapura, Karnataka was opened in 2013. HMSI also introduced Honda Eco Technology (HET) contributing to improved mileage and in 2014, Honda Gold Wing GL1800 was introduced into the country.
HMSI’s journey continued with more new models being introduced in 2015 while expansion with a 4th plant in Vithalapur, Gujarat was inaugurated in 2016. Honda Africa Twin came to India in 2017 and in 2018, the company achieved several milestones with 40 million sales, investment of Rs. 6.3 billion into the Vithalapur facility and exports crossing the 2 million mark. 2020 saw the introduction of a new lineup of scooters and motorcycles while in 2021, the company crossed the 5 crore unit mark in domestic markets among other achievements. Honda ActivaHonda 2Wheelers India reports decline in domestic wholesales and exports in September 2021
With Hero MotoCorp and Honda 2Wheelers competing at the top league in the domestic two wheeler market, September 2021 would have brought cheer to the latter. Sales look up. In a MoM comparison, Honda has bettered sales from the previous month. This has helped the manufacturer have its sight set on the omnipresent gap between both manufacturers’ monthly sales.
Honda Sales Sep 2021
Honda 2W reports domestic sales of 4,63,679 units, down 7.43 percent. Volume loss stands at around 37k units, down from just over 5L units YoY. Exports for the month are below 20k units. Volumes are down by about a quarter.
Down from about 26k units at volume loss of 6.9k units. Total sales fell to 4,82,756 units, down from 5,26,865 units. Sales decline is reported at 8.37 units at volume loss of about 44k units. Best sellers from Honda include Activa, CB Shine, Dio, Grazia, Unicorn, Dream, CB350, etc.
MoM domestic sales grew by over 15 percent to end the quarter on some positivity. Sales grew from just over 4L units at volume gain of just over 2k units. Exports were down by over third at volume decline of over 10k units. Total MoM growth is reported at 12 percent, up from 4,30,683 units at volume gain of about 52k units.

Honda ActivaHonda domestic sales dipped 6.20 percent YoY while exports increased 98.08 percent in August 2021
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) domestic sales stood at 4,01,479 units, exports surged to 31,114 units. Taking domestic sales into account, it was a 6.25 percent YoY de-growth with 4,01,479 units sold in August 2021 as compared to 4,28,238 units sold in August 2020.
Top Selling Honda – Aug 2021
Once again it was the Activa scooter that ruled the domestic charts with a 50.98 share and 2,04,659 units sold, a 5.17 percent YoY growth over 1,93,607 units sold in August 2020. Following success of the Activa and with it the Dio scooter as well, the company is now set to introduce new variants ahead of the festive season. Honda Activa 6G will come in two new variants while Dio scooter will get four new variants as per documents filed with the Delhi RTO.
Next in line was Honda CB Shine with a 22.42 percent YoY growth to 1,29,926 units, up from 1,06,133 units sold in August 2020. These were the only two models along with the Honda Hornet 2.0 to post positive sales last month.
Dio sales dipped 37.39 percent YoY to 26,897 units, down from 42,957 units sold in August 2020. Upcoming variants of this scooter could include composite cast wheels, digital speedometer, composite cast wheel and 3D emblem, and digital speedometer and 3D emblem.

Lower down the order, Honda Livo, Dream, Grazia and Unicorn each posted de-growth on a YoY basis while H’ness 350 saw sales to the extent of 1,047 units while sales of Hornet 2.0 increased 3.50 percent YoY to 414 units from 400 units sold in August 2020. Sales de-growth was also reported in the case of the X-Blade and Africa Twin while sales of CBR650 and CB500 stood at 37 units and 6 units respectively.
Navi, Dio to Honda Exports in August 2021
In export markets, HMSI reported a 98.08 percent YoY growth to 31,114 units, up from 1,708 units shipped in August 2020. Every model, except for the CB Twister posted sales growth. It was Honda Navi scooter along with Dio that was most in demand. Navi exports stood at 5,570 units, up 143.66 percent over 2,286 units sold in August 2020. Dio scooter exports were up 191.83 percent to 5,212 units in the past month, from 1,786 units sold in the same month of the previous year.
X-Blade exports also increased substantially to 4,164 units, up 14964 percent over 1,668 units shipped in August 2020. Dream and CB Shine followed in quick succession with 155.37 percent and 23.68 percent growth to 2,832 units and 2,580 units over 1,109 units and 2,086 units shipped in August 2020.

While Grazia exports stood at 2,480 units, that of Hornet 160R increased 68.26 percent to 2,428 units from 1,443 units exported in August 2020. New Honda CRF190LAs compared to recently launched CB200X, Honda CRF190L will have better off-roading capabilities
With growing interest in off-roading, there’s been an increased demand for adventure motorcycles. Newer riders usually prefer an affordable bike that can work as a commuter and tackle mild to moderate off-road tracks as well. For this segment, Honda will soon introduce CRF190L in China.
New Honda Adventure Motorcycle (Sub 200cc)- CRF190L design
The core silhouette and riding stance of Honda CRF190L looks familiar to that of Africa Twin. Some level of similarities can also be seen on the side fairing of both bikes. At the front, CRF190L has a flat-looking headlamp cowl. The front fascia looks a bit radical, as it’s quite different from conventional bikes. Other key features include a decent sized windscreen and circular rear view mirrors.
As compared to CB200X that was recently launched in India, CRF190L has distinctive styling and features. For example, CB200X has a wider visor as compared to that of CRF190L. CB200X is essentially a road-biased off-roader, whereas CRF190L could deliver a much better off-roading experience. Making it possible are features such as long-travel suspension at the front, wire spoke wheels, and chunky dual purpose tyres.
CRF190L has been equipped with standard telescopic forks whereas CB200X comes with USD forks in golden shade. Users can expect comfortable ride experience with the wide and ergonomically placed handlebar and curved seat design. At the rear, CRF190L has dedicated rack for carrying luggage.

In the image, the bike can be seen in dual-tone colour theme. At the time of launch, the bike could be offered in multiple single tone and dual-tone colour options. Sporty graphics in contrasting shade work to enhance the bike’s attractiveness. A number of parts have been blacked-out such as handlebar, levers, engine and swingarm.
Honda CRF190L engine and specs
Honda is yet to reveal details for CRF190L. It is likely that the bike will be using the same 184.4 cc, single-cylinder, air cooled motor as that of CB200X. It is capable of generating max power of 17 bhp at 8500 rpm and peak torque of 16.1 Nm at 6000 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. This engine also does duty on made-in-India Honda Hornet 2.0.
CRF190L could get features such as all-digital instrument cluster. It could also be equipped with a range of smartphone connectivity features. Users can pair their smartphone with the console to access features such as navigation. The bike appears to have disc brakes at both ends. Single-channel ABS is expected to be offered as standard.
It is expected that Honda CRF190L will be launched in China later this year. Based on response, it could be introduced in other markets as well such as Indonesia. Honda has already launched CB200X in India, so CRF190L is unlikely to make it here. More

Honda Activa and Dio scooters have long been hot favourites in the company lineup. Scaling the company’s sales charts each month, these two scooters are set to receive new variants, if RTO leaked documents are anything to go by.
As per a recent type approval document filed by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) with the RTO, Honda Activa and Dio will receive two and four new variants respectively. Honda Activa is currently presented in 6G and Activa 125 variants. The listed variants include Activa 6G and Activa 6G LED.
Honda Activa New Variants
As on date, the Honda Activa is offered with all LED lighting on the DLX variant. The STD variant gets LED DRLs, LED turn indicators along with LED tail lamps. Hence what the new variants will bring in is yet unclear. Honda Activa is currently priced from Rs. 69,080 to Rs. 72,325 (ex-sh).
As per RTO documents filed, there are also four variants scheduled for the Dio scooter. Honda Dio is currently available in two variants. The STD variant is priced at Rs 64,510 while the Dio DLX variant is priced at Rs 67,908.
Honda Activa, Dio scooter – New variants homologated
The listed document indicate the Honda Dio, Dio with digital speedometer, Dio with 3D emblem and Dio with digital speedometer and 3D emblem each of which get composite cast wheels. The new variants could see some change is design and features once launched. Expect launch of these new variants to take place ahead of the Diwali 2021 festive season, when sales are at peak.
Honda Dio scooter currently sports alloy wheels on the Repsol edition while other variants get pressed steel wheels. It also gets a digital instrument cluster on DLX and Repsol variants while STD variant gets an analogue setup.
No Change in Engine Specs
New variants of Honda Activa and Dio could continue to be powered by the same engine lineup. This 109.51cc, single cylinder engine makes 7.68 hp power at 8,000 rpm and 8.79 Nm peak torque at 5,250 rpm. On the Honda Dio, these figures stand at 7.76 hp and 9 Nm respectively. The engine is mated to a CVT.
The engine has recently received some updates which include new friction reduction technology, enhanced Smart Power (eSP), along with Honda Eco Technology (HET) for enhanced fuel efficiency. Suspension stands at telescopic suspension in the front and 3 step adjustable suspension at the rear.
Virtual Showrooms
In view of social distancing and fear of the pandemic, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter in India launched Honda BigWing virtual showrooms earlier this month. Set to enhance digital customer interface and to offer contactless services, this digital showroom offers customers a 360 degree virtual product range along with online documentation and direct to home delivery. Buyers can select their preferred dealership as per their location and customize their vehicles as per their choice. More
