    Honda Sales, Exports Breakup Oct 2021 – Activa, Shine, Dio, Dream, CB350

    Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), the country’s second largest two wheeler maker has seen its domestic sales dip 20.19 percent in the past month. Festive sales were well below expectations while rising petrol prices also caused buyers to rethink their purchase plans.
    However, the company is targeting sales of 3 lakh units per annum over the next 3 years. Aiding this target will be two new products – CB350 and CB350RS – recently launched in the mid-weight motorcycle segment. HMSI also has 70 Big Wing outlets and plans to expand their presence to 300 customer touch points over the next 3 years and 100 Big Wing outlets to cover top 50 units in operation areas by end of this fiscal.

    Honda Two Wheeler Sales in the past month dipped 20.19 percent YoY. Sales which had stood at 4,94,459 units in October 2020 dipped to 3,94,645 units. It was the Honda Activa that contributed most figures to these total sales. There were 1,96,699 units of the Activa scooter sold last month, down 17.89 percent over 2,39,570 units sold in October 2020. The Activa scooter commands a 49.84 percent share in the company lineup and was the second best-selling two wheeler in India last month following the Hero Splendor.
    At No. 2 was the Honda CB Shine with sales of 1,13,554 units last month, down 4.21 percent over 1,18,547 units sold in October 2020. Dio sales also dipped on a YoY basis by 41.79 percent to 25,641 units, down from 44,046 units sold in October 2020.

    Honda Dream, Livo and Grazia each posted a YoY de-growth. Dream sales dipped marginally to 22,407 units while Livo sales fell 23.97 percent to 13,075 units and Grazia sales were down 27.52 percent to 8,321 units.
    Even as Honda Unicorn 160 sales dipped 75 percent YoY to 7,077 units, the company reported a 454.42 percent growth in terms of Hness 350 sales. Sales stood at 1,290 units in October 2020 increasing to 7,152 units in the past month. Honda CB200X (693 units), CBR650 (13 units) and CB5000 (9 units) also contributed to total sales last month while there were 3 units of the Africa Twin and 1 unit of the CB300R sold.

    In export markets, HMSI fared better with a 14.86 percent YoY growth. Exports stood at 37,584 units last month, up from 32,721 units shipped in October 2020. It was the Navi scooter that commanded significant attention in global markets with 12,946 units exported, up 31.14 percent over 9,872 units sold in October 2020.

    Dio exports increased 30.08 percent to 7,962 units up from 6,121 units sold in October 2020 while XBlade shipments stood at 3,612 units, up 2.35 percent over 3,529 units of October 2020. Honda Dream Yuga premium commuter motorcycle exports surged 978.33 percent to 2,588 units last month, up from 240 units in October 2020.
    Exports of Honda CB Shine and Hornet 160R dipped 38.71 percent and 46.09 percent respectively to 2,289 units and 1,908 units respectively. Highest export growth was seen in the case of Honda CB350 with a 5020 percent YoY growth to 1,536 units, up from 30 units exported in October 2020. This bike is regaled as the torquiest bike in its class while it returns fuel efficiency of close to 38 km/l.
    Honda Unicorn 160 and Activa exports also increased 18.32 percent and 130.34 percent YoY to 1,536 units and 1,078 units while exports of Grazia dipped 76.45 percent YoY to 801 units in October 2021. HMSI also experienced higher exports for the Livo commuter bike with a 300 percent YoY increase to 800 units while Aviator added 360 units to total exports last month and Hornet 2.0 saw exports of 88 units. Unicorn 150 exports dipped 50 percent while CB Twister failed to record any exports even as 130 units had been shipped in October 2020. More

    2022 Honda Rebel 500 Cruiser Debuts With New Colour Options

    Honda presently has three models in the Rebel range of cruisers- Rebel 250, Rebel 500 and Rebel 1100
    Honda has updated its cruise lineup for 2022 specifically for Rebel 500 and Rebel 1100 in European markets. Both motorcycles offer a typical cruiser experience to riders with their signature old-school design and ergonomics. About a month ago, Honda reinvented the entry-level Rebel 300 in a down-sized version as Rebel 250.
    2022 Honda Rebel 500 Colour Options
    The Japanese bikemaker has introduced new colour options for Rebel 500 and Rebel 1100. Honda is offering a new paint scheme called Pearl Organic Green in Rebel 500. This option will be available alongside the current paint schemes on offer namely Graphite Black, Mat Axis Gray and Matte Jeans Blue Metallic.
    The latest addition to the colour palette is a stark contrast to dark and stealthy shades currently available for Rebel 500. On the other hand, Rebel 1100 sees the addition of a flashy new colour called Pearl Stallion Brown. The paint scheme also benefits from the blacked-out components lending the motorcycle a sporty dual-tone appeal.

    Apart from the added colour options, there have been no changes made in either of the cruiser bikes in terms of mechanicals or features.     This unit pushes out 47 bhp at 8500rpm and a peak torque of 44.6Nm at 6000rpm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission via a slip-assist clutch. The motorcycle rides on 16-inch front and rear wheels that are shod with fat 130-section front and 150-section rear rubber respectively.
    Suspension setup comprises 41mm telescopic forks at front and twin shock absorbers at rear. Braking duties are handled by a 296mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc aided by a dual-channel ABS.
    Rebel 1100 Specs
    Coming to the flagship Rebel 1100, the cruiser is powered by a 1084cc SOHC liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, 270 degree crank motor which pumps out 86 bhp at 7000rpm and a peak torque of 98Nm at 4750rpm. This engine also propels Africa Twin adventure bike and is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a DCT automatic gearbox.
    2022 Honda Rebel 1100
    The diamond frame of Rebel 500 sits on Preload-adjustable 43mm cartridge-style front forks and twin piggyback shock absorbers at rear. Rebel 500 rides on 18-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels shod with tubeless tyres. Braking duties are handled by 330mm disc up front and 256mm disc at rear complemented by a dual-channel ABS.
    There have been murmurs of Honda introducing the Rebel range in India previously although the Japanese brand hasn’t officially confirmed the same as of yet. That said, there are more chances of Rebel 500 being launched in India rather than Rebel 1100. More

    2022 Honda ADV 350 Scooter Debuts At EICMA – New Features

    2022 Honda ADV has made its global debut. This adventure scooter will be on public display at the EICMA 2021, being held from November 25-28. This is the company’s third offering in the adventure scooter segment – that also includes models like the X-ADV and the ADV150.
    Honda ADV 350 comes with styling borrowed from the X-ADV. It will be presented in three colour options of Spangle Silver Metallic, Matte Carbonium Gray Metallic and Matte Carnelian Red Metallic. It sits on a tubular steel frame. Speaking about dimensions, it is 2200mm in length, 895mm in width and 1295mm in height. It has a 1520 mm wheelbase. Though based on the Honda Forza 350, the ADV 350 is bigger and heavier than the former at 186 kgs.
    2022 Honda ADV 350 – Features and Styling
    Honda ADV 350 sports dual LED headlamps. It gets a two stage adjustable windscreen which can be adjusted via a slide-lock mechanism through 2 stages and 133mm travel. A USB Type C socket is positioned in the left glove box while seat height is at 795m. Under seat storage is at a premium with 48 liter capacity making it large enough to accommodate two full face helmets.
    On board features include an LCD instrument cluster with Honda Smartphone Voice Control system, Honda RoadSync All. It also gets connectivity via Bluetooth to the user’s smartphone allowing for voice management of phone calls and music. Smart Key controls the main ignition switch knob and seat locking from the rider’s pocket and automatically locks the scooter when the rider is out of a certain range.

    Engine Specs
    Honda ADV 350 is powered by a 330cc, SOHC, four valve engine making 21.5 kW (29 PS) peak power at 7,500 rpm and 31.5 Nm torque at 5,250 rpm. Fuel efficiency is rated at 30km/l economy (WMTC mode) with a potential 340km+ range on a full tank.
    Ideally suited both for city and out of city riding, the ADV 350 gets 37mm inverted fork with 125mm travel in the front. Rear suspension is via twin shock absorbers with 130mm travel. Front tyre is 120/70 R15 while rear tyre is 140/70 R14. Braking is via single disc in the front and rear via 2 channel ABS.
    Connectivity
    Keeping its rider fully connected, the ADV350’s LCD dash integrates the Honda Smartphone Voice Control system, which links the rider to their smartphone while on the move and allows voice management of phone calls and music. A helmet-mounted headset and Honda’s RoadSync app are all that is needed to activate the system, and the smartphone connects via Bluetooth; management of Honda Smartphone Voice Control System is from the left switchgear.

    2022 Honda Forza 125 premium scooter has made its global debut today, at the EICMA show in Milan. It comes in range of new features and updates. Convenience tech features include HSTC, electric screen adjustment, USB Type-C socket, storage for two full-face helmets, LED lighting, and Smart Key functionality.
    Honda Forza 125 has been on offer to European customers since 2015. To date 80k units have been sold. It’s design approach combines compact, sporty and ‘GT’ elements. The scooter features a four valve eSP (‘enhanced Smart Power’) engine. Handling ability is nuanced for city riding. Long range highway riding benefits from ride comfort, wind protection and strong top end power.
    In the last update, cosmetic changes were implemented to front and side fairings, mirrors, rear side panels and engine covers. Styling focused on a sleeker overall look for improved aerodynamics. The 22YM model will be available in two new colour options, Pearl Falcon Grey, and Mat Pearl Pacific Blue. Colours carried forward include Pearl Nightstar Black, Mat Cynos Grey Metallic, and Mat Carnelian Red Metallic.

    Forza 125’s electric screen’s control switch is on the left handlebar. And adjusts through 180mm. Design elements take care of wind protection. Airflow is guided around and over the rider’s head. Wind noise is reduced. While wind screen height is optimised for highway riding, it can be lowered for city rides.

    Larger front air duct manage negative pressure from upfront to reduce wind related rider pushback. Modern design lines are focused on a sharp, clean, and sporty look. Design focus extends to a new spoiler-type surround below the headlight, refreshed fairing side panels to feature a prominent ‘Z’ design line, and descending character line for the rear side panels.

    2022 Honda Forza 125 handlebar width is unchanged at 750mm. The same is true for mirror height of 1125mm, and seat height at 780mm. Seat design is roomy for rider and pillion with riding position optimised. Storage space can be partitioned to carry rain gear and bags. Locakable front left inner fairing pocket means the space can be used optimally to hold a phone and water bottle among other things.
    The USB socket replaces ACC 12V charging point. Forza 125 smart key utility takes care of main ignition switch knob, compartment locking, and also the optional 45L smart top box.

    Features include analogue speedometer and rev-counter, the dials for which have been redesigned. The digital display switches between 3 modes – odometer, range remaining, and current mpg. Other information displayed includes a trip meter, average fuel consumption and timer, ambient temp thermometer and battery sensor.
    2022 Forza 125 enhanced Smart Power (eSP) four-valve, water-cooled SOHC engine delivers max power of 11 kW / 15 PS @ 8,750rpm, and peak torque of 12.2Nm @ 6,500rpm. Compression ratio is set at 11.5:1. One can go from 0-200m in 13.3s. Honda has no plans to launch this scooter in India. If it does get launched, it could rival the likes of Yamaha Aerox and Aprilia SR range. More

    New Honda CB150X Vs CB200X – ADV Motorcycles Compared

    Honda recently added a new adventure tourer to its lineup which will serve as the entry-level model to the CBX range. The new CB150X beats CB200X to become the smallest adventure tourer by the Japanese brand. This bike made its maiden appearance recently at the ongoing 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
    Like the India-spec CB200X, the Indonesia-spec CB150X is more of a road-biased tourer than a full-fledged adventure bike. Both these bikes draw parallels to each other in a lot of ways. Let us look at some of them to distinguish these motorcycles apart.
    Honda CB200X
    Honda CB150X Vs CB200X – Design
    Both CB200X and CB150X are clothed versions of their respective naked counterparts- Hornet 2.0 and CB150R and flaunt a similar design philosophy of Honda’s CBX range. However, there are subtle variations that sets them apart. For starters, the front beak in CB150X is more pronounced than the one in CB200X, in addition to a taller windscreen in the former.
    Side panels on CB200X look sportier than CB150X. While both motorcycles feature beefy fuel tank extensions, the ones in CB150X look slightly more premium thanks to a brushed metal-like finish. Another major anomaly is that CB150X carries a much larger engine bash plate with a metallic finish in comparison to the smaller non-metallic unit in CB200X.

    Exhaust canister in CB200X is more stubby than the full-sized upswept unit in CB150X. This also helps the latter in water wading capabilities. Further, CB150X gets a ground clearance of 181mm, which is 14mm more than the CB200X. That said, the saddle of the former is more accessible at 805m in comparison to the seat height of 817mm in CB200X.
    Hardware Specs
    Both CB150X and CB200X are underpinned by a diamond-type frame. Suspension duties in CB150X are carried out by 37mm Showa inverted front forks with 150mm travel and a Pro-Link rear mono-shock. In CB200X, suspension setup comprises USD front forks and a rear mono-shock, although it might offer a little less travel than the setup offered in CB150X.
    Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends in both motorcycles. Further, both ADVs ride on 17-inch alloy wheels which are of similar design. However, the ones rolling under CB200X are shod with slightly fatter 110-section front and 140-section tyres instead of 100-section front and 130-section rubber in CB150X. A 12-litre tank capacity ensures fuel supply in each motorcycle.

    Features & Engine Specs
    In terms of features, both CB150X and CB200X get all-LED lighting and a fully-digital LCD instrument console. Unfortunately, neither of them offers any kind of connectivity options but the one in CB150X offers more information and readouts than CB200X.
    The most critical difference lies at the heart of both these motorcycles. CB150X is powered by a 149.16cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine derived from CB150R. Although Honda hasn’t revealed exact engine output in the ADV, in the naked streetfighter, this motor kicks out 16.5 bhp at 9,000rpm and a peak torque of 13.8 Nm at 7,000rpm. This unit is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
    On the other hand, CB200X is powered by a 184.4cc fuel-injected single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. This unit pushes out 17 bhp at 8500rpm and 16.1Nm of peak torque at 6000rpm. More

    2022 Honda NAVI 110cc Launched In The US – 4 Colours, Made In India

    Honda has launched 2022 Navi in the USA at a price of USD 1,807 (approx. INR 1.34 lakh). In comparison, when it was on sale in India, it was on offer at a price of Rs 50k. This mini Moto has been manufactured in India and will go on sale across USA starting January 2022.
    Navi was briefly on sale in India between 2016 and 2017 before being discontinued due to a very low sales volume generated. But despite of getting discontinued from India, it is still manufactured in India – for export markets. Navi is among the highest exported Honda two wheeler from India.
    The overall appearance of Navi shares a lot of resemblance with Grom, the company’s monkey bike. With beginner-friendly ergonomics, quirky design and fun to ride, Navi would majorly cater to the high school teenagers of America. The compact dimensions are an added benefit for young adults.
    2022 Honda Navi 110cc- Mechanical Specs
    Powering Navi is a 109.2cc, air-cooled, four-stroke single-cylinder engine derived from Active with Honda’s Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) technology. In the current avatar of Activa 6G, this motor kicks out 7.68 bhp at 8000rpm and a maximum torque of 8.79 Nm at 5250rpm while being mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. This engine returns a fuel efficiency figure of 45 kmpl.

    However, unlike Activa in India, this motor still comes equipped with a carburetor instead of a fuel injector. The chassis of the US-spec Navi is suspended on inverted forks up front and a mono-shock at rear. Braking duties are handled by a disc brake at front and a drum brake at rear. It rides on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels.
    Design & Ergonomics
    On a closer look, one might find the engine to be placed at a rather unusual spot which is low and closer to the rear wheel. It doesn’t qualify as a motorcycle and yet is very different in design from a conventional scooter. For starters, neither does it feature a step-through design with a big central floorboard nor even a low hump where the fuel tank sits, like many maxi-scooters.
    The rider’s feet are placed on external footpegs like motorcycles while it provides a lockable cubby down in front where one can store some knick-knacks. A very accessible saddle of only 785mm and kerb weight of 107kg would make it an excellent commuter in city traffic.
    Some exterior highlights of Navi include a squarish headlamp, a single-sided exhaust canister and blacked-out side panels and running gear giving the scooter a dual-tone theme that accentuates its overall sporty appeal. Honda is offering Navi in four paint schemes- Red, Grasshopper Green, Nut Brown, and Ranger Green. Honda has also left room for visual customisations with graphics packages named Icon and TrueTimber.     Honda 350cc Sales Cross 30k In 1 Yr – Royal Enfield Rival Aims For 10x Growth

    Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has revealed that it is looking to introduce multiple new models in the middleweight segments to take on market leader Royal Enfield. The mid displacement segment between 300cc and 700cc has been dominated by the Chennai-based bikemaker for a long time now.
    The Japanese brand, on the other hand, has only two models in this space- H’Ness CB350 and CB350 RS, both of them being fairly recent launches. The company is targeting sales of 300,000 units per annum in the category in the next three years with the new portfolio of locally manufactured mid displacement motorcycles.
    Together, sales of Honda CB350 and CB350RS has crossed the 30,000 sales mark in Oct 2021. This also marks the 1st anniversary of the Honda 350cc motorcycles in India. Honda aims to increase the yearly sales by 10 times in the segment, to take on Royal Enfield – who has about 90% market share.
    In an interaction with a leading newspaper, Atsushi Ogata, President, HMSI revealed that sooner or later Honda will add new products to its lineup. The number of models in the mid displacement segment of motorcycles will increase year by year. The company intends for sales to increase up to 3 lakh units within three years.

    Honda BigWing expansion
    The bikemaker will also look to expand its reach across the country as currently, it has 70 Big Wing outlets in the market. The company has said that it will expand its presence to 300 customer touchpoints in the next three years and is working to put in place 100 Big Wing outlets to cover top 50 UIO (units in operation) areas by the end of the ongoing financial year.
    HMSI intends to quicken the dealer expansion process in order to cover the top 100 UIO areas in the upcoming financial year. In addition, the sales team of HMSI is also trying to utilise its existing Big Wing dealership network by convincing dealer partners to consider the small branch concept in small towns as well.
    As per data provided by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), as many as 276,365 motorcycles with engine capacities between 250cc and 500cc were sold during the first seven months of the ongoing financial year FY2021-22. This has resulted in YoY growth of 4.2 percent. However, during the same period, overall sales of motorcycles declined by 1 percent and stood at 5,369,358 units.
    Royal Enfield Dominates
    Royal Enfield continues to dominate this space with a sales volume of 244,964 units recorded between April and October 2021. However, the company’s monopoly has been challenged in recent times as it faces heat from new competitors with its market share falling 700 basis points over the year-ago period. Meanwhile, Honda’s market share in this space has increased to 6.8 percent in comparison to 0.5 percent in Apr-Oct FY21.
    That said, Royal Enfield is working on a plethora of new products which will be launched in the coming few months. Currently, the brand retails three motorcycles in the 350cc category including Bullet, Meteor and Classic. It will also add Hunter 350, a retro classic roadster, to the lineup in the near future.

    It comes in with a bold design and advanced technology among which are Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) engine and Idling Stop System and Enhanced Smart Power (eSP). It also gets rider comforts among which are features such as LED DC headlamp, multi-function switch and an integrated passing switch.
    Features are also extended to side stand indicator with engine-cut off, intelligent instrument display, 3-step adjustable rear suspension and front telescopic suspension. Honda Grazia competes with the TVS NTorq 125, Hero Maestro Edge, Aprilia SR 125 and the Yamaha Fascino 125 FI Hybrid.
    Honda Plans Electric Two-wheeler for India
    Like its other counterparts Bajaj, TVS and Hero MotorCorp, HMSI also plans to enter the electric two wheeler segment. It will bring out its first electric two-wheeler in the next financial year. A Honda Benly e electric scooter has been spied testing at the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) facility in Pune earlier this year.
    The Benly e was showcased in 2019 at Tokyo Motor Show and has been positioned as an electric two-wheeler for commercial use. Honda sells four different models of the Benly e in Japan and in other global markets that include the Benly e I, Benly e I Pro, Benly e II and Benly e II Pro.
    The Benly will come in with LED headlamps, a digital instrument cluster and accessory power socket. It will get a flat rear deck and large basket in the front. The e-scooter will sport reverse assist function and ride on 12 inch tyre in the front and 10 inch tyre at the rear.
