Honda Activa e Home Charging May Become A Reality With A Dock

Honda CUV e Home Charging Solution on CUV eHonda’s battery swapping stations are still in nascent stage and it is quite impossible to free yourself from Honda’s walled garden if you want to charge an Activa e by yourself. That might change soon as the company may introduce a charging dock to charge these proprietary battery packs at home or any other place of your choosing.
This is a potential solution for Indian market and HMSI (Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India) has not officially confirmed it. The speculation arises from Honda CUV e, an electric scooter for Europe, which comes with a portable charging dock that allows you to charge these swappable battery packs anywhere you like. Let’s take a closer look.
Honda Electric Scooter Battery Swapping Station
    Honda Activa e Home Charging
HMSI won the race and became the first Japanese electric scooter manufacturer operating in India. In this race, however, Honda seems to have hurried things up and missed the bigger picture as Activa e can only be charged from Honda’s proprietary battery swapping stations. Unlike Honda QC1, which gets a 330W off-board AC charging.
In Europe, Honda just commenced the sales of CUV e electric scooter which comes with a portable dock that allows users to charge these battery packs at their convenience. Both Activa e and CUV e bear slightly different exterior styling, but comparable powertrains underneath with two removable batteries and come without a built-in charging solution.
Honda CUV e Home Charging Solution on CUV e
With CUV e, Honda offers a total of 2.6 kWh total capacity, split between two 1.4 kWh swappable battery packs. With Activa e in India, Honda offers a 3 kWh total capacity, split between two 1.5 kWh battery packs. Implementation of these swappable battery packs is almost similar between both vehicles.
Home charging for Activa e in India?
Looking at the solution Honda has carved out for Europe, potential Activa e buyers in India can be hopeful that the company will bundle a solution like this here. It is needed because Honda Activa e completely depends on the swapping stations that are currently only seen in Bengaluru and are quite few in number.
Honda CUV e Home Charging Solution on CUV e
If a buyer wants to charge Activa e at their house or apartment or at office, they are simply helpless as of writing this article. If the company implements a similar charging dock solution for India, it could nudge more buyers to look at Activa e. Which we feel is needed as these EV buyers are spoiled with choices that offer a lot more features and technology, while undercutting Activa e in pricing.

Honda Activa e Battery Rental Prices Reduced – New Concept Store In B’luru

Honda Activa eHonda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has finally entered the highly coveted electric scooter segment of the country. With the launch of Activa e and QC1, Honda became the first Japanese brand to enter India’s electric scooter segment, beating Suzuki and Yamaha to the finish line.
However, it has not been smooth sailing for Honda as launch prices were considered quite high. Battery rental prices were also considered to be on the higher side, souring the deal further. Getting down to damage control, Honda has introduced a more affordable BaaS Lite Plan with Activa e that is expected to boost its appeal considerably. Let’s take a closer look.
Honda Activa e Battery Rental Prices Reduced
    Activa e Battery Rental Prices
Launched with a price tag between Rs 1.17 lakh and Rs 1.52 lakh (Ex-sh) in India, the Honda Activa e is a little late for the party. HMSI has ensured that their products stand out as it offers a battery swapping system that no mainstream electric scooter manufacturer is currently offering.
It has to be noted that Activa e can’t be charged at home or at DC charging stations. Only battery swap. However, that turned out to be a costly affair for many as the base BaaS plans started from Rs 1,999 for up to 35 kWh per month in Basic Plan and Advance Plan commanded Rs 3,599 for up to 82 kWh per month.
    Honda EV Concept Store
Now, Honda has launched a new Lite Plan for Activa e priced at Rs 678 for up to 20 kWh (all plan prices excluding GST). These BaaS plans are employed on top of the base price of Activa e and the battery swapping stations are maintained in the country by Honda Power Pack Energy India operating only in Bengaluru as of writing this article.
Because of its removable batteries, Activa e has negligible boot space under the seat. It is powered by a mid-mounted motor sipping juice from two 1.5 kWh removable battery packs promising a range of 102 km on a single charge. There’s a 7-inch instrument cluster without touch support and all-LED lighting.

To boost sales of its electric scooters, HMSI has inaugurated an EV concept Store in Mantri Square Mall, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. This new showroom showcases Honda’s profound advancements in land mobility and aviation, showcasing its remarkable journey and contribution to the world.

At Product Display Zone, customers can get up close with Activa e and QC1 and even offers Kids Interaction Zone. Honda Activa Electric Scooter in Black – Arrives at Dealer Showroom

Honda Activa Electric Scooter in BlackHonda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has taken a significant step in the electric two-wheeler segment as the first batch of Honda Activa Electric (eActiva) scooters has started arriving at dealerships. Spy shots confirm that both the Activa E and QC1 models are being dispatched to showrooms, ahead of their official launch. Bookings and price announcements are expected to take place this month, with deliveries scheduled to begin in February 2025.
Honda Electric Scooters – Activa E and QC1
To cater to a broader customer base, Honda is introducing two variants—Activa E with a removable dual battery pack setup and QC1 with a fixed single battery pack. The Activa E is expected to be positioned as a more premium offering, featuring dual swappable lithium-ion batteries of 1.5 kWh each, delivering 8.15 PS of peak power, a certified range of 102 km, and a top speed of 80 km/h.
    Honda Activa e
It also boasts a gradeability of 13 degrees, making it more capable of handling inclines. The QC1, on the other hand, is a more affordable option, featuring a single 1.5 kWh battery pack, producing 2.44 PS, and offering a range of 80 km with a top speed of 50 km/h. Its gradeability is limited to 7 degrees, which may affect its uphill performance.
    Production Plans
Honda aims to produce 1 lakh units of these electric scooters in 2025, ensuring strong localization with 99% of components sourced within India. Production is currently being handled at Honda’s Narsapura facility in Karnataka, while its other plants in Alwar, Manesar, and Vithalapur will continue manufacturing ICE two-wheelers.
    Honda Activa Electric India
The company is implementing a phased rollout strategy for its electric scooters, starting with major metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, before expanding to other locations across the country. The Activa E and QC1 will be sold via Honda’s existing dealerships, rather than through an exclusive EV retail network. Dedicated EV sections will be set up within these showrooms to ensure seamless sales and service support.
A key highlight of the Activa E is its Battery as a Service (BaaS) model, which allows users to swap batteries instead of charging them at home. This not only lowers the upfront cost of ownership but also eliminates concerns about battery life and maintenance.
With the arrival of its first batch of electric scooters at dealerships, Honda is preparing to compete with established EV players like Ola Electric, Ather, and Bajaj Chetak. By offering both swappable and fixed battery options, a high level of localization, and a strong dealership network, Honda is well-positioned to make a significant impact in India’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler market.

Honda Activa Electric Battery Swapping Station Installed In Bengaluru – New Teaser

Honda Activa Electric Battery Swapping StationHonda Activa Electric Teaser Reveals Charging Socket Design – Battery Swapping Station installed in a petrol station
In its latest teaser, Honda has unveiled another key detail about the upcoming Activa Electric scooter – the charging socket design. Alongside this, a spy shot from Bangalore reveals the first glimpse of Honda’s battery-swapping infrastructure in India. These developments build anticipation for the Activa Electric, which is set to launch on November 27, 2024, in Bangalore.
    Convenient Charging Socket Placement
The Activa Electric teaser highlights a charging socket located on the scooter’s side. Protected by a secure flap to guard against dust and water, the socket is simple and user-friendly, making at-home or public charging convenient for riders. This feature underscores Honda’s commitment to providing practical solutions for urban commuters.

Battery Swapping Stations Spotted in Bangalore
In a significant move towards supporting its electric vehicle ecosystem, Honda has begun installing battery-swapping stations in Bangalore. One of these stations has been spotted at a petrol bunk near Hulimavu. The station closely resembles the ones Honda uses in international markets and appears compatible with the removable batteries teased for the Activa Electric. Interestingly, the batteries also resemble those used in the Honda EM1 electric scooter.
These swapping stations will allow Activa Electric riders to deposit a depleted battery and instantly replace it with a fully charged one. This drastically reduces downtime and eliminates the need for lengthy charging sessions, making it an ideal solution for urban commuters and high-mileage riders.

Dual Charging Options for Maximum Convenience
With the Activa Electric supporting both – Onboard Charging via its charging socket for home or public station use andBattery Swapping via Honda’s newly installed stations. This dual approach gives Honda a competitive edge over rivals like the Ola S1, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak, which rely solely on fixed battery setups.
Strategic Expansion of Battery Swapping Network
Honda’s battery-swapping stations are part of its broader strategy, supported by its subsidiary, Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited. These stations will likely be installed at key locations in Bangalore and other cities in the future. By leveraging its experience in international markets, Honda aims to create a seamless and efficient battery-swapping ecosystem in India.
The Activa Electric’s official unveiling will take place on November 27, 2024, in Bangalore, where Honda’s battery-swapping initiative is already taking shape. This event will mark Honda’s entry into India’s electric scooter segment, combining modern technology with the trusted Activa brand legacy. More
