    Price hikes are inevitable. And for most auto manufacturers, an opportune time to make such an announcement happens to be the end of a calendar year. With a new manufacturing date on new model year production vehicles, each new year beckons the rise of purchase costs. A price hike announcement now is the first of several that are expected through each year.
    Today, Hero MotoCorp announced an upward revision in ex-showroom prices of its motorcycles and scooters. This is wef January 4, 2022. Price revision is capped at up to Rs. 2,000. Exact quantum of increase varies based on model, and market.
    Timely price revisions are introduced to partially offset the impact of steadily increasing commodity prices. Hero Motocorp will be increasing prices of all their scooters as well as motorcycles. The company currently offers Splendor, Passion, HF Deluxe, Glamour, Xtreme and Xpulse in the motorcycles range while Pleasure, Destini, Maestro are on offer in the scooters range.

    Hero MotoCorp has for long enjoyed a coveted position at the top of the domestic sales chart. However this, coupled with limited exports meant Bajaj reported higher total sales in November 2021. So while Bajaj’s exports are stronger than domestic market sales, For Hero MotoCorp all that it is, is from the domestic market. Reputed as a leading mass market manufacturer in India, price hikes need to be thought out even more carefully.

    This is because segments that Hero MotoCorp excels in are highly price competitive. And even a small upward revision needs to be introduced after much consideration, and in a timely manner. In November 2021, Hero MotoCorp reported a steep sales decline. Total sales fell to below 3.5 lakh units YoY from just under 6 lakh units.

    Hero MotoCorp is hopeful that the last quarter of FY22 will be more fruitful based on current economic indicators. Apart from it’s strong grasp on the Indian two wheeler market, sooner or later one’s going to start looking forward to electric two-wheelers from the manufacturer.
    This is but a natural development considering future projection for electric vehicles. Keeping in mind the sheer number of two-wheelers sold each month in India, it’s no surprise that when the big electric wave comes through, it surely will be big.
    For now the e2W market is dominated by electric scooters. In fact, of the longstanding names in India, TVS and Bajaj already sell a single electric scooter already. No such product has yet been launched by Hero MotoCorp. Current electric vehicle progression is diversified, and sees Hero invest in R&D of tech and companies in the field.     Hero Xpulse 200 Rally Wins At INRSC 2021 In Its Debut Race

    Developed by Hero MotoSports, new Xpulse Rally 200 was unveiled at the finals of FMSCI Indian National Rally Sprint Championship 2021. Riding the new bike, Hero MotoSports team rider Yuvakumar registered win in Modified Class (Group B up to 260cc). He also won in Stock Class (Group D) event, riding the stock Xpulse 200 4V.
    Talking a bit about its look and feel, new Xpulse Rally 200 has a bare-bones structure. Some key features include raised front fender, round headlamp, compact fuel tank, flat seat design, aerodynamic side panels, thick engine guard, and underseat exhaust. Sporty graphics can be seen on fuel tank and side panels. The bike has knobby tires at both ends.

    Powering new Xpulse Rally 200 is a new, more powerful 200cc 4V engine. It has been tuned to deliver higher torque, improved acceleration and better overall performance. Torque and acceleration can make a big difference in a rally environment, as there’s a constant need to pick-up speed after rapid deceleration.
    Although exact performance numbers of new Xpulse Rally 200 have not been revealed, it is apparently better than stock Xpulse 200 4V. The latter is powered by a 199.6 cc, oil cooled, single cylinder, 4-valve motor that generates 19.1 ps of max power at 8,500 rpm and 17.35 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. It is mated to a constant mesh 5-speed transmission.

    Another advantage with new Xpulse Rally 200 is that it has higher power to weight ratio. The bike is around 20% lighter, as compared to stock Xpulse 200 4V. The latter has kerb weight of 158 kg. Weight reduction has been achieved through various tweaks including the use of lightweight reinforced aluminium rims. For improved performance in an off-road environment, the bike has been equipped with Maxxis tyres.
    New Xpulse Rally 200 gets a new suspension package wherein both the front USD forks and rear monoshock unit have longer travel. This allows the bike to tackle a variety of terrain in a rally environment. In terms of rider comfort and ergonomics, the bike has been equipped with tapered handlebars and repositioned footsteps.
    In comparison, Stock Xpulse 200 4V is equipped with standard telescopic forks at front and rectangular swingarm with monoshock rear suspension. It has 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, shod with 90/91 and 120/80 tyres, respectively. Braking system comprises 276 mm and 220 mm petal disc at front and rear, respectively.
    Hero MotoSports comprises a dedicated team of experts that focuses exclusively on developing specialized rally bikes. They have been active in international circuit since 2016 and entered the domestic rally scene in 2020.     Hero MotoCorp with Gilera Motors Argentina has stepped up operations in the country. With this, a flagship dealership has been inaugurated in Buenos Aires. This is part of breathing in new tempo into boosting Hero MotoCorp‘s presence in Argentina.
    Revitalisation efforts get off to a fresh start through a partnership with Gilera Motors. The latter is a leading Argentinian name in the motor vehicle sector, and an experienced Latin American motorcycle manufacturer.
    Investments from Gilera Motors Argentina are aimed to rapidly expand all business operations. The boost is expected to generate about 500 new jobs in the region. Gilera Motors’ partnership has a multiplier effect on the local economy. This pertains to generating investment, and direct and indirect jobs. Plans include further expansion of operations in the future.

    Hero MotoCorp Sales Nov 2021 – Splendor, Passion, Pleasure, Destini

    Even as Hero MotoCorp led the two wheeler segment in terms of sales in the past month, de-growth was reported across all segments. Hero MotoCorp, the largest two wheeler maker in India reported a 40.89 percent drop in total sales in November 2021. These sales were the company’s lowest in 7 years during the festive period.
    The company cites a range of reasons for this fall. It could be due to a delay in harvesting because of late withdrawal of monsoons across many parts of the country. This had an adverse effect on demand through the festive season.

    Hero MotoCorp has reported sales, that includes both domestic and exports at 3,49,393 units in November. This was against 5,19,091 units sold in November 2020 a difference of 2,41,698 units. Motorcycles sales dipped 39.20 percent to 3,29,185 units in the past month, down from 5,41,437 units sold in November 2020 but commanding a 94.22 percent share.
    The most popular models were the Splendor and HF Deluxe, which are also the company’s most affordable models. There was a greater fall in terms of scooter sales which fell 59.30 percent to 20,208 units, down from 49,654 units sold in November 2020 with a 5.78 percent share.

    Taking domestic sales into account for the past month, sales dipped to 3,28,862 units from 5,75,957 units sold in November 2020, a fall of 42.90 percent. Exports on the other hand increased 35.66 percent to 20,531 units, up from 15,134 units shipped in the same month of the previous year.
    Hero MotoCorp month-on-month sales also saw a deep decline both in terms of motorcycle and scooter sales. Total sales stood at 3,49,393 units in November 2021, down 36.24 percent over 5,47,970 units sold in October 2021, relating to a difference of 1,98,577 units. Motorcycle sales dipped 34.94 percent to 3,29,185 units last month from 5,05,957 units sold in October 2021. Scooter sales dipped 51.90 percent to 20,208 units, from 42,013 units sold in October 2021.
    MoM domestic sales dipped 37.69 percent to 3,28,862 units from 5,27,779 units sold in October 2021 while exports increased only marginally by 1.68 percent over 20,191 units sold in the October 2021 period. Best sellers from Hero includes the likes of Splendor, Glamour, Passion, Pleasure, Maestro, Destini, Xtreme, Xpulse, etc.

    Sales also saw a de-growth in terms of year to date sales slipping 11 percent to 33,60,493 units from 37,75,890 units sold in the April to November 2020 period. Motorcycle sales dipped 10.12 percent to 31,28,883 units (34,0,990 units in October 2021) and scooter sales fell 21.46 percent to 2,31,610 units (2,94,900 units in October 2021).
    Domestic sales were down 14.01 percent to 31,63,155 units in the YTD period over 36,78,348 units sold in the same period of the previous year. Exports on the other hand increased 102.31 percent to 1,97,338 units in the April to November 2021 period over 97,542 units shipped in the same period last year.
    In urban markets, sales were also impacted due to delays in opening of schools and colleges, job losses and salary cuts along with an extended work from home policy. However, with increased farm activity, the marriage season, efficient vaccine response and a boost to consumer sentiments, sales through the end of Q4 2021 period could finish on a more positive note.     Hero MotoCorp reported a 33.30 percent de-growth in domestic sales to 5,27,779 units, down from 7,91,137 units sold in October 2020. Exports saw some increase YoY from 15,711 units sold in October 2020 to 20,191 units sold in the past month relating to a 28.52 percent growth.

    Every model posted a YoY de-growth in domestic markets except for the Xpulse 200. Topping the domestic sales charts was Hero Splendor with 2,67,821 units sold, down 15.19 percent over 3,15,798 units sold in October 2020. Hero Splendor currently holds a 50.75 percent share in company lineup. Splendor was the best-selling two wheeler in Oct 2021 while Honda Activa came in second.
    At No. 2 was HF Deluxe with YoY de-growth of 29.50 percent to 1,64,311 units, down from 2,33,061 units sold in October 2020 with a 31.14 percent share. Hero Glamour and Pleasure also posted a 67.28 percent and 7.16 percent de-growth respectively, down to 25,663 units and 21,716 units in October 2021. Hero Passion and Destini 125 also saw lower YoY sales down 76.61 percent and 51.72 percent respectively to 17,666 units and 12,898 units respectively in October 2021.
    Lower down the order, even as Hero Xtreme 160R and Maestro posted a 44.56 percent and 70.25 percent de-growth, Hero Xpulse saw increased demand to the extent of 54.27 percent YoY. Sales which had stood at 2,473 units, increased to 3,815 units in the past month.

    Hero Hunk was in top form in global markets last month. Sales increased 1627.09 percent YoY to 8,480 units, up from 491 units exported in October 2020. HF Deluxe also saw positive growth in a YoY basis by 97.77 percent to 4,974 units up from 2,515 units sold in October 2020. Hero Splendor exports dipped 43.64 percent to 2,982 units last month, down from 5,291 units shipped in October 2020. Glamour was another model in the company lineup to see better results with a 60.86 percent YoY growth to 2,770 units.
    Likewise, the company’s Pleasure bike also saw increased demand in global markets to the extent of 58.54 percent to 260 units while Xtreme 160/200 shipments increased from 36 units to 80 units YoY. Destini 125 exports dipped 50 percent to 60 units while Achiever, Xtreme 150, Duet and Passion have been discontinued.

    Domestic sales increased 4.30 percent on a MoM basis to 5,27,723 units, up from 5,05,946 units sold in September 2021. Once again it was the Splendor that took a first spot on the list with 2,67,821 units sold, down 3.60 percent over 2,77,836 units sold in September 2021.

    Domestic sales of the HF Deluxe increased 22.13 percent to 1,64,311 units in a MoM basis while that of Glamour dipped 4.48 percent to 25,663 units, down from 26,866 units sold in September 2021. Thereafter, Pleasure (21,716 units), Passion (17,666 units) and Destini 125 (12,898 units) all posted a MoM growth as did Xtreme 160R (6,919 units), Maestro (6,914 units) and Xpulse 200 (3,815 units).
    Exports on a MoM basis dipped 18.86 percent to 20,191 units, down from 24,883 units shipped in September 2021. It was the Hunk that ruled the list with 8,480 units exported last month, up 21.16 percent over 6,999 units shipped in September 2021.
    Hero HF Deluxe also posted a 2.70 percent growth in MoM exports to 4,974 units, up from 4,843 units exported in September 2021. Exports dipped for Hero Splendor, Glamour and Xpulse 200 and Maestro and Xtreme 160/200 while that of Hero Pleasure increased substantially by 140.74 percent to 260 units over 108 units shipped in September 2021.     Hero Could Launch New Electric Scooters, Motorcycles Under VIDA Brand

    The entire global automotive industry is shifting towards electric mobility and the transition has started to take rapid steps. In India too, multiple new offerings in the electric vehicle space have been launched already, especially in the two-wheeler segment.
    However, the largest player in the two-wheeler segment hasn’t yet forayed into electric mobility. That said, Hero MotoCorp will soon be launching its first electric vehicle and some fresh details regarding the upcoming battery-powered two-wheeler have surfaced online. As we already know, this two-wheeler is expected to be launched by March 2022.

    Hero MotoCorp cannot use the ‘Hero’ brand for its upcoming battery-powered vehicles since Hero Electric, a separate EV manufacturing entity, holds exclusive rights for this brand in the EV segment. They are expected to launch an all new sub-brand, under which they will sell their range of upcoming electric scooters and motorcycles.
    Recently, Hero MotoCorp has registered multiple names with the name VIDA. The names that have been registered by Hero MotoCorp include – VIDA Electric, VIDA EV, VIDA Mobility, VIDA MotoCorp, VIDA Scooters and VIDA Motorcycles.

    It is likely that Hero will start its EV journey with an e-scooter which could be launched the first product under their ‘Vida Electric’ brand. The bikemaker has filed a trademark for this brand which is likely to serve as a sub-brand catering to only battery-powered vehicles.
    To be built in Chittoor
    The upcoming e-scooter will be manufactured at the company’s latest manufacturing facility located in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. Images of the upcoming e-scooter were leaked on the internet after Hero MotoCorp live-streamed its 10th anniversary celebration in August this year.
    Aptly called Garden Factory for its eco-friendly and sustainable manufacturing practices, this plant will provide an integrated ecosystem for Battery Pack Manufacturing and Testing, Vehicle Assembly, and Vehicle End of Line Testing (EOL). It is also the youngest facility of Hero which started operations in March 2020.

    Gogoro & Battery Swapping Tech
    From the images leaked earlier, the e-scooter didn’t seem to share any noticeable element with Gogoro electric scooters. For the uninitiated, Gogoro is a Taiwan-based EV manufacturer with whom Hero MotoCorp has announced a partnership earlier this year. Through this joint venture, the Indian bikemaker could make use of battery swapping technology of Gogoro in its upcoming electric two-wheelers.
    The upcoming Hero Vida electric scooter will sport a more conventional design unlike the ones offered by Gogoro. Some striking highlights of the Hero e-scooter are a single-sided rear suspension and a seemingly mid-mounted motor, Unlike Gogoro electric scooters, the e-scooter from Hero MotoCorp misses out on double-sided swingarms.
    The Hero e-scooter gets black embellishments on the handlebar, side and rear fenders and floorboard which give it a dual-tone colour theme that looks very sporty. Other notable styling highlights include a long split seat, a short flyscreen and curvy bodywork. The pillion seat is detachable which is intended for use in last-mile services. More

    Hero MotoCorp, the largest two wheeler maker across the globe has released their sales report for October 2021. The company has reported a 33 percent decline in domestic sales to the extent of 33 percent to a total of 5,27,779 units, down from 7,91,137 units sold in October 2020. Exports on the other hand increased from 15,711 units sold in October 2020 to 20,191 units in the past month.

    Motorcycle sales stood at 5,05,957 units in the past month, a YoY de-growth over 7,32,498 units sold in the same month of the previous year. YTD sales also dipped significantly to 27,99,698 units in the April to October 2021 period, down from 29,39,553 unit sold in the same period of 2020. Best sellers include Splendor, Passion, HF Deluxe. Even premium Hero motorcycles like Xtreme and Xpulse did decent numbers.
    Scooter sales also suffered a setback dipping to 42,013 units in the past month as against 74,350 units sold in October 2020. YTD sales were at 2,11,402 units, down from 2,45,246 units sold in the April to October 2020 period. Hero scooters include Destini, Maestro, Pleasure – which are not as much in demand as their motorcycles.
    This took total motorcycle and scooter sales to 5,47,970 units in October 2021 down from 8,06,848 units sold in October 2020. YTD sales dipped to 30,11,100 in the past 7 months of 2021 over 31,84,99 units sold in the same period of 2020.

    New Launches From Hero
    In October 2021, Hero MotoCorp introduced XPulse 200 along with the Hero Xtreme 160R Stealth Edition. The new Pleasure+ XTec marked its entry into the company’s scooter portfolio. Pleasure + XTec comes in at a starting price of Rs 61,993 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Hero Xpulse 200 is priced at Rs 1,23,150 making it the most affordable entry-level bike in the country.
    Hero’s new Xtreme 160R Stealth Edition is at Rs 1,16,660. The Stealth Edition gets more sporty in a Matte Black colour scheme and receives class-leading features among which are all-LED lighting system, side stand engine cut off, etc. Its first-in-segment features also include integrated USB charger and 5 level adjustment for brightness of LCD display.

    Exports of Hero MotoCorp were more positive with a 28 percent MoM increase to 20,191 units over 15,711 units shipped in October 2020. YTD exports surged to 1,76,807 units from 82,408 units sold in the same period of 2020. Sales over the coming weeks are expected to grow due to increased festive buying.
    As markets open up following the COVID-19 pandemic situation that we have been facing over the past year, Hero MotoCorp has accelerated their global expansion initiative. The company inaugurated a new dealership in Dubai in October 2021 so as to enhance their presence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).     The automotive industry has been reeling under the effects of the ongoing Covid-19 for a very long time and now it has been facing a semiconductor chips shortage for several months which has adversely hit production across different segments. Even the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer hasn’t been left untouched.
    Production of Hero MotoCorp, like most other OEMs in India, has taken a hit during the recent crisis of semiconductor chip shortage. This has resulted in low sales and exports volumes. However, things appear to be stabilizing very slowly with production improving gradually.
    Hero Sales, Exports Breakup Sep 2021 – Splendor Continues Old Charm
    A total of 5,05,954 two-wheelers were sold by Hero MotoCorp last month which translated to a 27.44 percent YoY decline. On the other hand, the bikemaker witnessed an MoM growth of 17.37 percent. Splendor topped the list of domestic sales in September this year with 2,77,836 units sold as compared to 2,41,703 units sold in August this year. This resulted in MoM growth of 15 percent.
    However, marginal YoY degrowth of 0.86 percent was recorded since 2,80,250 units of the 100cc motorcycle were sold in September 2020. Splendor was followed by another 100cc bike in the form of HF Deluxe with a registered sales volume of 1,34,539 units. This led to a negative YoY growth of 37.77 and a positive MoM growth of 17.42 percent.

    Pleasure- most sold scooter
    The third spot was taken by Glamour with 26,866 units dispatched across the country last month. This translated to a YoY decline of 61.33 percent and an MoM growth of 13.13 percent. Pleasure was the brand’s highest-selling scooter for September this year which recorded a sales volume of 21,648. This resulted in YoY and MoM growths of 7.87 percent and 25.86 percent.
    Hero dispatched 17,191 units of Passion to dealerships across the country last month resulting in a YoY decline of 72.84 percent and an MoM growth of 16 percent. Destini registered a sales volume of 12,358 units which led to a 37 percent YoY decline and a 49.74 percent MoM growth. Maestro, Xtreme 160R and Xpulse 200 recorded a monthly sales volume of 6,1137 units, 5,996 units and 3,375 units respectively.

    Coming to exports, as many as 24,783 two-wheelers were dispatched to overseas markets by the company. This translated to YoY growth of 33.78 percent and MoM growth of 8.97 percent. Hunk was the most exported two-wheeler from Hero with 6,999 units shipped overseas. This led to a massive YoY growth of 128 percent and MoM growth of 8 percent.

    A total of 6,229 units of Splendor were shipped abroad last month leading to an MoM growth of 15.87 percent and a marginal YoY growth of 0.31 percent. It was followed by Hf Deluxe and Glamour with a monthly volume of 4,843 units and 4,246 units respectively.
