    Hero MotoCorp Sales Breakup April 2023 – Splendor, Passion, Xoom, Destini

    Hero SplendorHero MotoCorp had the Splendor as its best-selling model in domestic markets while it was HF Deluxe that attracted most attention globallyHero MotoCorp has been seeing lackluster sales over the past few months. While the company posted YoY and MoM de-growth in March 2023, sales in the past month continued to be in the red on a YoY basis, both in domestic and export markets. Domestic sales stood at 23,86,173 units in April 2023, a 3.08 percent YoY de-growth from 3,98,464 units sold in April 2022. This was a 12,291 unit dip in volume.Total sales (domestic + exports) in April 2023 stood at 3,96,096 units, down from 4,18,595 units sold in April 2022. It was also a significant de-growth in MoM sales which had stood at 5,19,342 units in March 2023.  However, the company has extensive plans ahead.Hero MotoCorp Sales Breakup April 2023Hero Splendor topped the sales list with 2,65,225 units sold last month and was the only model in the company portfolio to post positive sales. This was a 13.30 percent YoY growth from 2,34,085 units sold in April 2022 relating to a 31,140 unit volume growth while the Splendor commands a 68.68 percent share on this list. Hero Splendor was the best-selling motorcycle in April 2023 commanding a 36.30 percent share.At No. 2 was HF Deluxe with 78,700 units sold last month, down 21.77 percent from 1,00,601 units sold in April 2022. Hero HF Deluxe faces the recently launched Honda Shine 100 in its segment which could have resulted in lower sales.Hero MotoCorp sales April 2023Sales of Hero Glamour also fell 42.09 percent YoY to 12,042 units from 20,796 units sold in April 2022. The new Xoom scooter added 11,938 units to company sales in the past month. However, sales of Destini dipped 32.76 percent to 6,039 units in April 2023 from 8,981 units sold in April 2022. YoY sales de-growth was also seen in the case of Hero Pleasure which fell by 52.65 percent to 5,826 units in the past month from 12,303 units sold in April 2022.Hero MotoCorp sales April 2023Sales list also included Hero Passion (3,620 units), Maestro (1,221 units), Xtreme 160/200 (626 units) and Xpulse 200 (576 units) along with the Vida of which 360 units were sold last month. Each of these models have posted YoY de-growth. The Vida electric scooter has recently undergone a price cut following which Vida V1 Plus is priced at Rs 1,19,900 whereas Vida V1 Pro carries a price tag of Rs 1,39,900. These prices include FAME II subsidy and portable charger.Hero MotoCorp Exports April 2023Exports of Hero MotoCorp also fell YoY by 50.71 percent to 9,923 units in April 2023 from 20,131 units exported in April 2022. All but the Hero Maestro has seen a YoY dip in demand. It was HF Deluxe that commanded most attention in global markets despite a 29.85 percent YoY fall in exports. In total, there were 3,958 units of HF Deluxe shipped last month, down from 5,642 units shipped in April 2022. Hero HF Deluxe currently commands a 39.89 percent share.Maestro exports increased by 239.68 percent YoY to 1,892 units in April 2023 from just 557 units shipped in April 2022. Hero Hunk was at No. 3 on the export list with 1,501 units shipped last month, down 66.61 percent from 4,495 units shipped in April 2022. It was followed by the Splendor with a 66.46 percent YoY de-growth to 1,420 units while Glamour exports also fell by 77.20 percent to 648 units in the past month.     New Harley Davidson X440Looking at some of the images, it seems that Harley-Davidson X 440 has stupendous lean angles, which could translate to a sporty characterHero and Harley-Davidson partnership has unveiled their first new motorcycle – the X440. It will take on the Royal Enfield motorcycles upon launch. In typical American fashion, this affordable Harley-Davidson Roadster comes with a larger engine than Royal Enfield. Going by past Harley offerings, the 440 in X440 will be its displacement.It is a single-cylinder unit with oil-cooling setup and fins for air-cooling. Even though Hero MotoCorp manufactures it in India, Harley-Davidson likely designed the X440. Launch is still distant, but a starting price of Rs. 2.5 lakh (ex-sh) for a barebones model and Rs. 3 lakh for all the bells and whistles is possible.New Harley Davidson X440 DebutsWe see a lot of inspiration from Harley’s Nightster in its muscular fuel tank, round headlight, round speedo on top of its headlight, wide handlebars and minimal body panels. Headlight gets ring-like LED projectors with a horizontal pill-shaped element above them, reading Harley-Davidson.Circular turn indicators have a Harley-Davidson logo in them, a nice attention to detail. At the rear, there is a pill-shaped LED tail light. The circular instrument cluster seems to be a negative LCD unit. But we hope it is a TFT unit with Bluetooth connectivity enabling navigation, calls and notifications.New Harley Davidson X440From a lot of angles, this affordable Harley-Davidson looks like a smaller Iron 883. This might literally be true where the engine is concerned. Hero MotoCorp might use this new powertrain on their upcoming Xpulse as well.Powertrain & ComponentryMade by Hero MotoCorp in India, Harley Davidson X440 is powered by an air/oil-cooled single-cylinder unit with a single exhaust. We expect it to have a 4V head and make around 30 bhp and much higher torque (around 40 Nm), spread primarily in the mid-range. A 6-speed gearbox is very likely. Rear sprocket gets a chain drive, over a belt drive. Refinement could slightly take a hit.Componentry include USD front forks, single disc setup at both ends with dual-channel ABS and equipment by Bybre, twin shock absorbers at the rear, neutral footpegs, alloy wheels, 17″ rear and 18″ front alloy wheels. All this is mounted on a tubular trellis frame. A single stepped seat, blackened engine bay, blackened exhaust are notable elements.New Harley Davidson X440Foot peg positioning looks pretty neutral and slightly higher set. This should enable impressive (from Harley’s standards) lean angles. Street Rod 750 with 210 mm ground clearance is revered as the sportiest Harley. Maybe X 440 can match it.Launch & PricingGiven the larger displacement and Harley-Davidson badge, we expect it to be priced at around Rs. 50K to 80K more premium than Royal Enfield’s 350cc portfolio. That is not a bad proposition, considering Royal Enfield doesn’t pose the same novelty factor as it used to before with large volumes already on road.New Harley Davidson X440A base variant costing around Rs. 2.5 lakh and a top-spec variant costing around Rs. 3 lakh is a good proposition for Harley-Davidson X 440. Hero MotoCorp will be its official distributor in India. Harley-Davidson X440 is different than X350 and X500 motorcycles launched in China recently.     Hero Splendor Modified Sports Edition Looks Dope – Render

They are the undisputed champion and their biggest sales generator is Splendor. Hero never forayed into the sporty neo-retro Cafe Racer genre, except it did. But not in a way you would have liked, though. Because Hero based its cafe racer on Splendor Pro and named it Splendor Pro Classic.It didn’t sell as much as Hero would have liked. Kobeyo Customs has come up with their version of Hero Cafe Racer named Splendor Sports Edition based on Splendor+. We think this is what Splendor Pro Classic should have been from day one. Let’s take a look.Splendor Sports Edition RenderFor starters, Kobeyo Customs seem to be big fan of Triumph Motorcycles. That’s where most of the parts are cut and pasted on this Splendor Sports Edition render. Sticking with the end result, we should say that it looks very appealing, certainly for a Splendor+ on which it is based. New mono-tone colours without Hero’s infamous stickers would look even nicer.Kobeyo Customs has used Triumph Street Triple’s front USD telescopic forks, front and rear alloy wheels, stubby exhaust system along with handlebar. With them, Splendor Sports Edition render has a dual disc setup at the front, a boomerang-shaped aluminium swingarm, and fatter tyres. Splendor’s 100cc engine would definitely struggle to just pull these fat tyres.2023 Hero Splendor Sports Edition – render by Kobeyo CustomsBut as a concept rendered, it looks stunning. Kobeyo has lifted seats, rear subframe and tail right off a Triumph Scrambler and pasted it on their Splendor Sports Edition render. The split seats don’t have a step. Front headlight cowl is slightly elongated and lends a faux windscreen effect.Kobeyo re-touched some of the components like the fuel tank and some other body panels. All these combined, it looks like Splendor+ went through a breakup and hit the gym probably three times a day. This lends a perspective of a cafe racer from Hero MotoCorp based on its 160cc or even its new 210cc platform.Why did Hero’s first Cafe Racer fail?To Hero’s credit, the company didn’t just slap a rear seat cowl on Splendor Pro and call it a day. Instead, Hero gave it a round headlight, single-seat with backrest, round ORVMs, minimal body panels, a new subframe and a new tail. Instead of being the style statement for Splendor buyers, Splendor Pro Classic was an absolute disaster.For people in the market for a budget commuter, it lacked Splendor’s practicality. For people looking for an enthusiast cafe racer, Splendor Pro Classic was just a glorified 100cc Splendor. Hero discontinued it in 2017. Xpulse 200 4V PRO variant is nothing but the Rally Edition of earlier version.  Base variant gets Rs. 5,000 increment over its preceding model and this price seems worth what the newer model is packing in its belt.     Electric Scooter Refund – Ather, Ola, TVS, Hero To Repay Overcharged Customers

    India’s FAME II policy was established to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the country. Under the policy, eligible electric vehicles were provided with benefits and subsidies to incentivize the purchase and use of EVs.
    However, the policy set a limit on the retail price of electric two-wheelers that could qualify for these benefits. Two-wheelers priced above INR 1.50 lakh per unit were excluded from receiving these benefits to ensure that the programme’s benefits are targeted towards affordable EVs accessible to a larger section of society.
    Manufacturers, however, found ways to sidestep this caveat by selling electric scooters within the price range and selling necessary chargers and proprietary software separately. To address this, the Ministry of Heavy Industries stopped subsidies to all manufacturers that didn’t comply with the FAME II guidelines. In response, some EV manufacturers have taken corrective steps to repay customers who have been overcharged.
    Ola Electric, TVS Motor, Ather Energy, and Hero MotoCorp Set Example with Refunds
    Ola Electric has announced a refund of INR 130 crore to S1 Pro customers who purchased the vehicle before March 30, 2023. Similarly, TVS Motor has agreed to refund customers who paid more than the threshold limit set by FAME II. The total refund cost for the company is estimated to be less than INR 20 crore, and it will be paid to customers who bought the TVS iQube S model between May 2022 to March 2023. An ET AUTO report pegs the total refund amount at Rs 15.61 crore. This will be repaid to 87k customers. Hero MotoCorp will refund 1,100 Vida V1 Plus and V1 Pro customers who purchased the vehicle before March 2023.

    Ather’s dues stand at INR 140 crore to be repaid to 95,000 customers who purchased the Ather 450x e2W until April 12, 2023. Additionally, a further recovery of INR 25 crore will be made from Ather on account of reduced battery capacity scooters for those who didn’t buy upgraded software. With these corrective steps, EV manufacturers aim to rebuild trust with their customers and promote the adoption of electric vehicles in India.

    TVS Motor said – “TVS Motor is fully committed to the Government of India’s vision to promote electric mobility and fully support the Government of India’s initiative to enable faster adoption of electric mobility, development of electric vehicle eco-system and in spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat, all the electric development has happened in house. Additionally, as a responsible corporate, TVS Motor has fully complied with all government regulations specified under FAME. Further towards alleviating ambiguity and ensuring a clear policy direction, TVS Motor will offer a goodwill benefit scheme for its customers who have paid over and above the threshold limit fixed by FAME. The overall cost impact to TVS Motor Company is less than 20 crores.”
    EV Manufacturers Take Corrective Steps to Repay Customers for Overcharging
    The refund announcements by EV manufacturers are significant steps towards promoting customer trust and transparency in the EV ecosystem. This move by manufacturers will help restore consumer confidence in the EV industry and encourage wider adoption of electric vehicles.

    Hero Vida Electric Scooter Price Cut – Starts At Rs 99,900

    To boost sales, leading electric scooter manufacturers like Ather and Ola Electric had recently launched affordable base-spec variants. It appears that OEMs are looking to achieve a starting price of under Rs 1 lakh. This has a significant impact on consumer perceptions and their decision making.
    Now, Hero MotoCorp seems to be following a similar strategy. Prices have been reduced by Rs 25k for Vida V1 Plus and Rs 20k for Vida V1 Pro. Prices of Vida scooters will be even lower at locations that still have state subsidy.

    Earlier, Vida prices were quite high at Rs 1.45 lakh for V1 Plus and Rs 1.59 lakh for V1 Pro. Hero MotoCorp has now implemented a new pricing policy that will be applicable pan-India. The new effective price of Vida V1 Plus is Rs 1,19,900 whereas Vida V1 Pro will retail at Rs 1,39,900. This is an effective price, which includes FAME II subsidy and portable charger. Hero says that the new prices will make Vida more accessible to the masses. It will also help speed up adoption of electric scooters.
    Some states continue to offer state-level subsidies for EVs. Consumers in these states can get the Vida at an even lower price. For Example, people in Ahmedabad can get Vida V1 Plus at Rs 99,900 and Vida V1 Pro at Rs 1,19,900. Similarly, prices will vary based on state level subsidy. Other states that continue to offer state subsidies include Rajasthan and New Delhi.

    Vida to increase presence across 100 cities
    Hero MotoCorp is working on a mega expansion plan, which will help boost sales. As of now, Vida is available in Bengaluru, Delhi and Jaipur. The company has also started expansion plans in eight new cities – Pune, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Nasik, Hyderabad, Chennai, Calicut and Kochi. By end of CY2023, Hero has plans to make Vida available in 100 cities. The company should not have any major challenges, as it already has a large network of dealerships.
    Hero currently operates experience centres for Vida in Bengaluru and Jaipur. In Delhi, the company has pop-up stores. Pre-bookings for Vida are now open in the eight new cities. Deliveries are expected to commence soon at these locations.
    Hero is also working to expand its charging network. As of now, there are around 300 charging station across Bengaluru, Delhi and Jaipur. Charging stations will soon be set up in new cities as well. The charging stations will be installed at prominent locations to ensure easy access to users. When using Vida’s fast charging network, users can refuel at 1.2 km per minute.
    Due to the earlier high pricing, Vida sales were fairly limited in comparison to rivals. With more affordable pricing and availability across 100+ cities, a surge in sales can be expected. Vida comes with removable batteries, which is another advantageous factor for the scooter. More

    Hero Passion XPro Spied During TVC Shoot – Is It For India?

    Global offering Passion XPro spotted shooting commercial in IndiaHero Passion XPro on sale in Bangladesh is powered by a 109.15cc engine – Different from India-spec Passion’s 113.2cc engine
    A new Hero motorcycle has been spied in India, while it was out for a TVC shoot. It is a Hero Passion XPro. This motorcycle is on sale in a few global markets like Bangladesh. There, Hero offers two colours, Techno Blue and Sports Red. Base coat is grey and gets Blue or Red decals depending on its colour.
    The one spotted in India is in a Techno Blue shade. Hero offers Passion XPro the exact same front fascia of India-spec Passion XTEC. Even its ‘H’ shaped LED signature is identical too and lends a modern and techy appeal.

    Hero has offered extended tank shrouds. Design is sleek and slender, lending it an athletic appeal. At the rear, there is an all-new tail light which has no similarities with the Indian 110cc lineup. Hero’s proprietary XTEC suite with a fully digital instrument console and Bluetooth connectivity are notable elements.
    We can spot similar componentry between Hero’s 110cc lineup in India and recently spotted Hero Passion XPro. Except for its engine. Which is a 109.15cc unit, completely different from India-spec 113.2cc motor. The same 109.15cc engine was on offer on Passion XPro on sale in India, which didn’t make the BS6 P1 transition in 2020.

    In the picture, we can see that the India-spec 113.2 cc engine (below) has a larger heat jacket and even looks more substantial and fuller than Passion XPro’s 109.15cc engine (above). The recently spotted Passion XPro in India is equipped with the older 109.15cc engine which didn’t make the BS6 P1 transition and not the BS6 P2-compliant 113.2cc engine.

    Also, Hero offers older engines in a few markets. For example, Hero still makes a 150cc Hunk and exports it with an identical engine we used to get close to a decade ago. It is likely that Hero MotoCorp is shooting an advert for Passion XPro in India to market it in another country. This is a common practice and many India-spec vehicles get their adverts shot elsewhere too.
    100cc Motorcycles rule the market
    Analysing the Indian budget commuter segment, most action lies in 100cc space. Hero’s own 110cc motorcycles don’t make as much buzz as their 100cc offerings. For example, Passion is exclusively (as of now) a brand for 110cc offerings in Hero’s lineup.
    In March 2023, Passion line sold just 4,640 units, while Splendor range accounted for 2,88,605 units (most of them 100cc) and 56,290 units of 100cc HF lineup. Even the 125cc Glamour line sold 8,512 units. As we recently saw with Passion Plus 100, Hero is actually diversifying its 100cc portfolio. Which is where all the action is currently lying. Even Honda recognised this and has launched Shine 100.
