The company has introduced the new Xoom 110cc scooter which could stir up sales in the months ahead as it will offer some competition to the Honda Activa, Suzuki Access, TVS Jupiter, TVS Ntorq and Honda Dio.Total sales of both motorcycles and scooters stood at 3,56,690 units in Jan 2023 down 6.25 percent from 3,80,476 units sold in Jan 2022. In the motorcycle segment, it was the Splendor, Passion, HF Deluxe which helped push most sales.Scooter sales on the other hand improved marginally by 1.86 percent to 23,052 units in Jan 2023 from 22,631 units sold in Jan 2022. MoM sales saw de-growth across motorcycle (-6.48 percent) and scooter (-38.41 percent) sales and where domestic (-6.37 percent) and exports (-43.40 percent) were concerned.Hero MotoCorp Sales YTDHero MotoCorp saw better results where year-to-date (YTD) sales were concerned. During the April-Jan 2023 period, motorcycle sales were at 41,01,406 units, up 6.16 percent from 38,63,590 units sold in YTD FY 2022.  Motorcycles commanded a 92.90 percent share. Scooter sales also increased significantly by 15.13 percent to 3,13,338 units in the FY 2023 period, up from 2,72,152 units sold in the same period of the previous year.This took total sales up 6.75 percent to 44,14,744 units in FY 2023 up from 41,35,742 units sold in YTD FY 2022 relating to a volume growth of 2,79,002 units. Growth was seen in the case of domestic sales to 42,70,746 units from 38,96,300 units while exports YTD FY 2023 dipped to 1,43,998 units from 2,39,442 units shipped in YTD FY 2022 period.Hero MotoCorp Sales Jan 2023Hero Xoom 110 scooterGetting back to the new Xoom launched by Hero MotoCorp in January 2023, this scooter targets younger buyers in the country. The new Xoom 110 cc scooter is offered in three variants – LX, VX, ZX priced from Rs. 68.599 to Rs. 76,699. It is available in colour options depending on variants with LX offered in Polestar Blue, VX in Polestar Blue, Black, and Pearl Silver White and top of the line ZX in Polestar Blue, Black, Matte Abrax Orange and Sports Red.Hero Xoom 110 boasts of several industry first features among which are Intelligent Cornering Light and bigger and wider tyres. Hi-tech features also include an X shaped LED headlamp, handlebar cowl, compact windscreen and an integrated braking system. The new Xoom scooter also receives a fully digital console with Bluetooth, front disc brakes, start/stop function and a USB charging port.Borrowing its engine lineup from the Hero Pleasure and Maestro Edge 110cc scooters, Xoom is powered by a 110.9cc air cooled, 4 stroke engine that offers 8 hp power at 7,250 rpm and 8.7 Nm torque at 5,750 rpm. Suspension is via telescopic forks at front and swing-arm at the rear while braking is as per variant. With products like Splendor, Hero has gone from strength to strength in the motorcycle segment. That said, Hero has not seen such success in scooter sales. This segment is dominated by Honda, with its ever-popular Activa range.Not that Hero MotoCorp doesn’t have any scooters. It has Pleasure+ at entry-level price point, Maestro Edge 110 and Destini 125 at mid-level Maestro Edge 125 at top-level. Now, Hero is getting ready to launch a new scooter, called Xoom. It features a design language that is sporty and different from its current crop of scooters.Hero Xoom 110cc Scooter – HomologatedNew Hero Xoom scooter has been homologated and type approved at NCAT. It seems that Hero had previously homologated this under Maestro range and called it Maestro Xoom. But another document confirms that it will drop the Maestro branding, and be called just ‘XOOM’.Hero Xoom will be positioned above Maestro Edge 110. It gets a 110.9 cc single-cylinder engine making 6.0 kW (8 bhp) of power as per NCAT type approval. Hero is launching Xoom in three different variants LX, VX and ZX. While LX and VX are dimensionally identical, ZX is 18 mm wider and weighs 1 kilo more.Upcoming Hero Xoom 110cc Scooter – Specs, VariantsSpeaking of dimensions, Xoom is 1881 mm in length, 717 – 731 mm in width, 1117 mm in height and has a 1300 mm long wheelbase. In comparison with Maestro Edge 110, Hero Xoom is just as wide and weighs just as much. But Xoom is 38 mm longer in length, 71 mm shorter in height and has a 39 mm longer wheelbase.This means Hero is pitching it as a sporty scooter with less bulky body and a longer wheelbase for sorted handling and straight-line stability. While every other Hero scooter currently gets its headlights mounted on the handlebar, Xoom’s headlight unit is placed in its apron. Going by its engine capacity and form factor, Xoom can be a fitting rival to Honda Dio.Specs & FeaturesJust like Pleasure+ and Maestro Edge 110, Hero Xoom is also powered by the same 110.9 cc engine making 6 kW (8 bhp) of power and 8.7 Nm of torque. Mated to a CVT, this powertrain offers decent performance where price and segment are concerned. With switchable i3S tech, engine stop/start feature should ensure better fuel savings too.Hero Xoom Scooter – Name changed from Maestro Xoom to XoomThe new X-shaped LED elements at front and back signify the Xoom name. Features like a fully digital instrument cluster with XTEC connected tech are likely to be offered with top-spec variants. Hero should have offered an external fuel filler facility, which is missing as seen in the first spy shots. Launch price of around Rs. 65-70k (ex-sh) should be reasonable for this scooter. Come 30th Jan 2023, they will be launching a new scooter which is likely to be called Hero Xoom 110cc.New Hero Xoom 110cc Scooter TeaserNew Hero Xoom scooter wears a sporty suit and is set to take on Honda Dio and the likes. It gets an LED headlight set up on the front fascia with an X insignia, instead of on the handlebar. A different shape of X forms its LED tail lights. Hero Maestro Xoom 110 also gets storage compartments below its instrument console like other Hero scooters along with a USB phone charger too.Turn indicators at both ends are normal halogen, though. It gets a switchable i3S button on the switch gear which Maestro Edge 110 lacked. i3S is Hero’s fuel-saving stop/start feature that is offered with every other scooter except Maestro Edge 110.New Hero Xoom 110cc ScooterHero Xoom 110 also gets an all-new fully-digital instrument cluster with XTec connected features along with trip meters, odometer, clock, fuel-level indicator and Bluetooth with notifications and turn-by-turn navigation. One major missed opportunity for Hero Maestro Xoom 110 is that it doesn’t get an external fuel filler cap which its arch-rival Dio gets.Features & CompetitionComing to its specs, it will be powered by the same 110.9cc engine that does duty on Pleasure+ and Maestro Edge 110. This engine makes 8 bhp of power and 8.7 Nm of torque. In terms of suspension, it will get telescopic front forks.Hero Maestro Xoom 110 gets alloy wheels and front disc brakes as options. Steel wheels and front drum brakes will also be offered with lower variants. Xoom 110 will also get 12” wheels at both ends. The Maestro 110 has 12” wheels at front and 10” wheels at the rear.This will definitely be the most expensive of Hero’s 110cc scooters and will sit above Maestro Edge 110. With a sporty design, it is set out to clash with Honda Dio which is also powered by a 110cc engine. Pricing is not yet known as of now, and will be revealed on 30th Jan. With a large 3.94 kWh battery pack, will Hero Vida V1 Pro manage to clock a real-world range that is close to official claim?Hero Vida Electric Scooter Range Test Real WorldHero Vida V1 was launched recently and has been quite a mixed bag as far as appeal goes. It is a commendable effort for sure, from the country’s largest 2W manufacturer. But will it meet the success which is generally expected from a Hero MotoCorp product, well we will have to wait and see. Especially when this is among their most expensive offering, at Rs. 1.7 lakh (on road, Bangalore, without FAME II subsidies).Every single one of Hero MotoCorp’s rivals costs much less than Vida V1 Pro. That said, Vida V1 Pro offers a removable battery feature, which can very well be the deciding factor. None of the premium electric scooters from Ola, Ather, TVS and Bajaj offer a removable battery. This is a boon for people living in apartments or those who do not have access to charging facility in parking space.Hero Vida V1 Pro Range TestHero claims 165 km of range for Vida V1 Pro and 143 km of range for Vida V1 Plus. Both the IDC range and real-world range vary vastly. For example, real-world range for Ola S1 Pro crossed 200 km with some users and 300 km with some, while claimed range is 180 km only. Thanks to YouTuber Pradeep On Wheels, we now have the first real-world range for Vida V1 Pro.Pradeep ensured that both batteries on Hero Vida V1 Pro are charged to the max. He set off to test the range in Eco mode and maintained a top speed of 40 km/h. First 50 km of the ride was covered with just 38% of battery power with 62% left. At around 53% battery, Hero Vida V1 Pro covered 60 km of range.[embedded content][embedded content]At around 50% charge, Pradeep engaged cruise control and until then, manual throttle inputs were used. Cruise control was set to around 40 km/h top speed to extract maximum possible range from V1 Pro. By the time Pradeep covers 85 km, battery is at 36%. This is a strong indication that V1 Pro would cover over 100 km.At around 30% battery, the total distance covered was 94 km. By the time 100 km mark was touched, battery hovered around 24%. This means that Hero Vida V1 Pro would cover 100 km of range from a single charge with 24% of battery on reserve. At this point, the onboard computer was showing a range of 25 km left with 24% battery.At 110 km, one battery showed 13% charge and another battery showed 12% with 14 km DTE (Distance To Empty). Once battery is below 20%, V1 Pro switches to a conservative state where user can only choose between Eco and Ride modes. There is a low battery warning at 10% with both batteries.Hero Vida Electric Scooter Real World Range TestWhat Happens At 5% Charge?When Vida V1 Pro falls below 5% charge, it automatically goes into limp home mode where top speed is capped at 10 km/h. Pradeep extracted 120 km before going into this mode. From 5% to dead, Hero Vida V1 Pro covered 1.8 km. Pradeep’s effective real-world range of V1 Pro with a total of 3.94 kWh battery pack is 121.8 km. This is nowhere close to the official claim of 165 kms. Especially considering that speed was maintained below 40 km/h throughout the ride. With higher speeds, range would have dropped drastically.But that does not mean Hero electric scooter cannot do 165 kms or more on a single charge. Range depends on a lot of factors including weather, road condition, etc. In addition, with more users getting on road with the Hero Vida e-scooter, there will be more data available to Hero engineers. This will help Hero MotoCorp to optimise software and Battery Management System via future OTA software updates. That will not only increase range, but also the performance of Vida electric scooter. Total sales in December 2022 stood at 3,94,179 units in Dec 2022, down 0.15 percent from 3,94,773 units sold in Dec 2021.Domestic sales improved by 1.84 percent to 3,81,365 units from 3,74,485 units YoY while exports slipped 36.84 percent to 12,814 units in Dec 2022 from 20,288 units shipped in Dec 2021. Motorcycle sales took a 5.34 percent decline to 3,56,749 units in Dec 2022 while scooter sales improved 108.98 percent to 37,430 units last month.Hero MotoCorp Sales Dec 2022Taking MoM sales into account, Hero MotoCorp saw a 0.83 percent MoM growth to 3,94,179 units from 3,90,932 units sold in Nov 2022. Growth was seen both in terms of domestic sales (3,81,365 units) up 0.40 percent and exports (12,814 units) which grew by 15.51 percent MoM. Hero Splendor, HF Deluxe and Pleasure were the top 3 selling bikes during the month while the Destini 125 also added good numbers.Taking into account sales during the past calendar year 2022, Hero MotoCorp reported a 0.15 percent decline when compared to sales in CY 2021. Total sales which had stood at 50,34,422 units in CY 2021 dipped to 50,26,717 in CY 2022.Hero MotoCorp Sales Dec 2022Sales were in the red in the first 3 months of last year thus taking Q1 2022 sales down 26.11 percent to 11,05,754 units from 14,96,478 units sold in Q1 2021. Sales then increased in the following three months to end Q2 sales up 41.20 percent to 13,28,082 units from 9,40,597 units sold in Q2 2021. However, losses in the first three months of CY 2022 led to H1 sales falling by 0.13 percent.Hero MotoCorp yearly sales – 2022 CYQ3 2022 sales improved by 1.67 percent to 13,89,011 units while Q4 2022 sales fell 2.21 percent to 12,03,870 units. H2 2022 sales were thus down 0.17 percent to 25,92,881 units from 25,97,347 units sold in H2 2021. Total sales in the past calendar year dipped 0.15 percent to 50,26,717 units from 50,34,422 units sold in CY 2021. Hero Vida V1 Electric ScooterAfter launching the XPulse 200T 4V last month at Rs 1,25,726 (ex-showroom Mumbai), the company has entered the highly lucrative electric two wheeler segment with the Vida V1 e-scooter. The first scooter has already been delivered from the Vida Experience Centre located at Vittal Mallya Road in Bangalore. Hero Vida V1 is presented in two variants of Plus and Pro priced at Rs 1.45 lakh and Rs 1.59 lakh, ex-showroom, respectively.This pricing is inclusive of a portable charger and charging service. Viad V1 receives swappable batteries with the Pro slated to offer 165 kms range and Plus at 143 kms on single charge.
