Hero Electric Dealers Demand Rs 500 Crore Pending Payments – Stage Protests At HQ

Hero Electric DealersThe dealers claim that Hero Electric has not paid them in the past two years due to which outstanding payments have escalated to around Rs 500 croresThere is an ongoing battle between Hero Electric and the company dealers. The dealers complain that even as more than Rs 150 crores have been paid to the company in advance for supply of electric scooters, the company claims otherwise, ‘jo karna hai kar lijiye’ (you are free to take any recourse). In 2021, Hero Electric had stated that they aim to sell 10 lakh electric scooters / EVs per year.Hero Electric Dealers Protest at Gurugram HQOver 200 Hero Electric dealers have been protesting outside the Hero Electric headquarters in Gurugram, seeking dues that run into hundreds of crores. In the past year alone, the dealers have deposited over Rs 150 crores into the accounts of Hero Electric. This amount was taken in advance for the supply of the company’s range of electric scooters, however, neither were deliveries made nor were warranty for spare parts provided.Hero Electric dealers protesting at company HQ pic.twitter.com/jfoL3B3TTP— RushLane (@rushlane) August 9, 2024A letter written by the dealers to the Prime Minister seeks his intervention into their grievances. The pending payment currently amounts to Rs 500 crores while at the same time leaving around 50,000 customers in dire straits due to the warranty of spares issue not being sorted out.Hero Electric Dealers AngryThis disparity between the management and its dealerships have left many dealers at their wits end. Some have even attempted suicide. They are left facing the issue of depleting sales due to no batteries and chargers being supplied which are under warranty. Subsidies to be passed on to end-customers as per the FAME-II policy has also not been reimbursed till date. The dealers also have to face angry customers who have been attacking dealers due to no servicing being offered on their vehicles.Hero Electric dealers protest – Says company holding Rs 500 crores byu/UseSimilar3989 inindianbikesNishant Bansal, a Delhi-based dealer and the President of World Federation of ZE EV and Welfare Association has stated that dealers have been left with huge debts. They now seek immediate compensation and reimbursement from the company and the assurance that outstanding warranty and supply of spare parts will be addressed on a war footing. This issue has affected over 50,000 electric vehicles from Hero Electric, leaving scores of customers dissatisfied and angry.A point to be noted is that Delhi High Court along with Punjab and Haryana High Court have also admitted petitions by Hero Electric disputing actions of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and sought recovery of pending subsidies to the tune of over Rs 550 crore since 2021.Hero Electric Management Denies AllegationsIn response to the above contention from company dealers, Hero Electric held a meeting with the dealers at the company headquarters in Gurugram, but refused to pay even a part of the outstanding dues, according to Bansal. He also stated that when urged to pay at least a part of the dues, the management refused, stating ‘jo karna hai kar lijiye’ (you are free to take any recourse). The company claimed that these claims of Rs 500 crore pending amounts is false and mischievous.A spokesperson at Hero Electric stated “Dealers have separate agreements with the company, based on their sales estimates. Production shutdown for the last nine months has caused delays; however, the company has already started production, and dispatch of vehicles has already commenced with a commitment to the dealers to resolve open issues by December 2024”. Hero Splendor Electric Spied In Pune By ARAI – Testing By GoGo A1

Hero Splendor Electric Spied in PuneAs opposed to current electric conversion kit on sale, Hero Splendor electric spied in Pune could feature GoGoA1’s newly developed kitElectric mobility is catching on in India at a faster pace than anticipated. That is because India is world’s largest 2W market and EV adoption rate can take new directions. GoGoA1 is among the players operating in 2W EV realm, but their approach to electric mobility involves electrifying existing ICE vehicles, rather than pushing new EVs.Hero Splendor Electric Spied In Pune By ARAIThe talk about GoGoA1 arises because there is an electric Hero Splendor on testing, spotted in Pune. This Hero Splendor prototype motorcycle dons red temporary number plates and gets camouflaging all around its body including its engine bay.Hero Splendor Electric Spied TestingOr what used to be an engine bay, because it is a prototype vehicle running on electric power. Looking at the motorcycle, it is a Hero Splendor and even has seat cover that reads Splendor. Rear grab rail design suggests that this particular motorcycle might be an older unit. Also, the overall condition of this motorcycle suggests that it could be an older bike. Because it was spotted testing in Pune with prototype electric powertrain, we would wager that this Hero Splendor electric spied, could be demonstrating range tests conducted by ARAI and other concerned authority.Hero Splendor Electric Motorcycle Kit – GoGoA1Said prototype is highly likely to be developed by GoGoA1 as it is the leading company to develop electric conversion kits. That said, there is a possibility of this being the work of a new player that is set to reveal themselves in the coming months. Is this a new electric conversion kit from GoGoA1?If we take a look at GoGoA1’s product lineup, we can see pre-engineered and ready to retrofit electric conversion kits for almost every Hero MotoCorp and Honda 2W vehicles along with electric conversion kits for 4W vehicles including battery and two hub motors. So, GoGoA1 already made an electric conversion kit dedicated to all Splendor motorcycles. However, there may be a new kit under testing that incorporates a slightly bigger battery for better range from a single charge. Previous homologation documents did not specify battery capacity. The company has type-approved new kit as well, as seen in the images below.Hero Electric Bike from GoGoA1We can see a new hub motor that is white in colour. It will probably be painted black with production-spec kit for a stealthier approach. Currently GoGoA1’s electric conversion kit for Splendor packs a rear hub motor with 3.94 kW (5.28 bhp) peak power and 2 kW (2.7 bhp) continuous power.Maybe there is a new kit in development with a more powerful motor than current kit on sale. As of now, GoGoA1 is selling its ARAI-approved and patented motorcycle conversion kit for Rs. 29,000, excluding the donor motorcycle. Will there be an increase in pricing too? Only time will tell. The company’s new and approved electric conversion kit caters to as many as 45 different vehicles as listed in the new homologation documents. Just like before, majority of these are from Hero MotoCorp and a few others include Honda vehicles.GoGoA1 kit for Hero bikesSource More

Hero Vida Electric Scooter Can Use HERO Branding – Hero Moto Vs Hero Electric

Hero MotoCorp and Hero Electric are two separate companies – Both are involved in a legal battleImage for reference. It may be recalled that Hero Electric had sought an injunction against Hero MotoCorp from use of the trademark ‘Hero’ for its electric vehicles. The issue was referred to the Delhi High Court last year by Vijay Munjal, along with his son Naveen Munjal, who owns Hero Electric, the largest electric two-wheeler company. This legal battle was against his cousin Pawan Munjal, Promoter and Chairman of Hero MotoCorp, claiming that the company had exclusive ownership rights of the ‘Hero’ brand for its upcoming lineup of its electric and eco-friendly products. In a recent ruling by the Delhi High Court, Hero MotoCorp has been granted permission to use the ‘Hero ’trademark for selling its electric vehicle lineup.Hero Moto Vs Hero Electric – RulingThe tribunal, which consisted of former Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and retired judges Indu Malhotra and Indermeet Kaur observed that Hero MotoCorp had claimed the use of ‘Hero’ for its upcoming electric vehicle lineup since 2012. The company is now close to launch of its electric vehicles under brand name ‘Vida – powered by Hero’.Hero MotoCorp’s Vida brand will house all electric vehicle initiatives and the company has even filed a patent for names such as Vida, Vida MotoCorp, Vida EV, Vida Electric, Vida Scooters and Vida Motorcycles for its EV endeavor.Hero Electric Scooter Optima HXThe Tribunal took into account the fact that Hero MotoCorp had spent over Rs 7,000 crores to enhance goodwill and gain reputation of the ‘Hero’ brand over the past 10 years as compared to Rs 65 crores which had been invested by the Naveen Munjal Group to promote ‘Hero Electric’.The Tribunal also noted that Hero MotoCorp had also made hefty investments to the tune of Rs 400 crores into their VIDA project along with investments made in Ather Energy, the Bengaluru based company for its fast charging technology. Hero owns 38 percent in this company and both firms are developing fast charging infrastructure.Good News For Hero MotoCorpThis ruling will boost Hero MotoCorp’s confidence, ahead of the launch of their first electric scooter later this year. Imagine if Hero Moto had to sell their electric scooters without the brand Hero or their existing dealership network. That would have been a nightmare for the No 1 motorcycle brand in the world.Hero MotoCorp Electric Scooter – Under VIDA BrandAs much as this is good news for Hero MotoCorp, it is bad news for Hero Electric, who is one of the leading electric scooter manufacturer in India. By default, most in the country mean Hero MotoCorp, when they refer to a Hero vehicle. Even today, there are people who think Hero Electric and Hero MotoCorp are the same company. If the arrival of new EV rivals like Ola, Ather was not enough, they will have a new problem at hand once Hero MotoCorp launches their range of Hero Vida electric scooters and motorcycles. Hero MotoCorp was scheduled to launch their first electric scooter in July. But parts shortage has forced them to delay the launch to later this year. More

Hero Electric Aims To Beat Ola And Become No 1 In E-Scooter Sales

Hero Electric has one of the widest portfolios of electric two-wheelers in India with as many as 14 models in its lineupOla became No 1 in April 2022, beating Hero ElectricHero Electric was among the first major brands to set foot in the electric vehicle space in India by launching its electric two-wheeler back in 2007. Today, there are multiple players in the industry, especially in the battery-powered two-wheeler space, including established auto brands as well as newly founded EV startups.Despite multiple new entrants in the battery-powered two-wheeler segment, Hero had held its top spot; until last month when Ola Electric took the numero uno position. In April 2022, Hero Electric was unable to dispatch a single unit to any of its dealerships across the country.Hero Electric Confident Regaining Top SpotHowever, the Delhi-based EV manufacturer is confident of regaining its position as a market leader in the near future. Managing Director of Hero Electric, Naveen Munjal assured that the company will make a turnaround very soon. Thanks to an acute shortage of semiconductor chips, Ola Electric was able to dethrone Hero from the top position last month.Munjal revealed that Hero remains committed to triple sales and regaining its leadership position even though chip shortage is likely to impact its operations for a few more months. He further added that shortages that Hero Electric currently faces are planned shortages which are temporary and not a long-term challenge.Hero Electric Scooter Optima HXExpansions of Sales & ProductionHe expects production to stabilize in the next few months although he admitted that demand is so huge that the company will not be able to fulfill it entirely. Hero Electric managed to sell around 100,000 units of its electric scooters in fiscal 2022. It has set a target of retailing around 250,000-300,000 units in the current financial year.In order to achieve an annual capacity of 500,000 units by the end of this calendar year, Hero is expanding its existing production facility in Ludhiana, Punjab. The EV brand also has additional capacity available at partner Mahindra’s factory in Madhya Pradesh. Over the course of the next five years, Hero plans to set up multiple manufacturing facilities to achieve a cumulative capacity of 5 million units per annum.Future Plans for Hero ElectricHero Electric has one of the widest portfolios as far as electric two-wheelers are concerned. The brand currently retails as many as 14 models that are based on five platforms and intends to launch multiple new scooters this year. The new launches will cater to both categories- city speed and high speed. However, Hero is focussing on the former at present since the city speed segment will bring in mass volumes.Models in the higher end will come once as drivetrains and batteries improve. Since there was no sale in April this year, Hero Electric conducted a safety month where it educated its consumers about battery functioning and how it needs to be maintained and to tell tale signs of a problem. This was in the backdrop of numerous fire incidents on electric scooters occurring across the country in recent times.Source More

Hero Electric Scooter Sales Dispatch 0 Units In April 2022 – Here’s Why

Hero Electric posts zero dispatches in April 2022; attributes it to the ongoing global chips shortageHero Electric Scooter Optima HXA global chip shortage continues to plague manufacturers. Expectations point to an improvement in the situation in H2 2022. With reduced production, acquiring them remains a key issue. And with a chip shortage looming overhead, the only logical outcome is production loss.Hero Electric Scooter Chips ShortageHero Electric has over time, secured a sustainable top position in the fledgeling electric scooter segment. However, the E2W brand finds itself severely affected by the chips shortage. Resultantly, Hero Electric posts zero dispatches in April 2022.Simultaneously, those in the orderbook find their vehicle delivery wait period stands extended. Waiting period is now over 60 days. The situation is so acute at present that there are dealerships, which have no stock to display. As with anything that isn’t fully entrenched and established, the Indian electric two-wheeler industry is dealing with plenty of teething matters. And being under the limelight following a recent spate of fires in quick succession, industry wide think-tanks are expected to work overtime. This bodes well for long term robustness as eliminating drawbacks in the initial stages will make way for stringent safety policies. Focus is currently heightened on battery management systems and vehicle wellbeing.Electric Two Wheeler Retail Sales March 2022 – FADA / Vinkesh GulatiHero Electric production capacityIn FY22, Hero Electric reported a sales milestone of 100,000 units. However, the start to FY23 is slow going on account of the chips shortage. However, Hero Electric isn’t sitting by and twiddling its thumbs. The delivery gap period is being utilised effectively to ramp up production capacity. This is true for its Ludhiana and Pitampur plant. The manufacturer is also working towards a smoother supply chain flow. There are plenty of pointers estimating EV growth. This is evident through increased customer demand. Hero is diligent about enhanced battery testing. And carries out thorough audits of the battery production factories. This enhances battery systems’ safety and consumer security. This month, Hero Electric observed ‘Battery Safety Month’. Dealerships communicated with consumers regarding best practices in handling batteries, and identifying red flags by themselves. EV robust growth pathSohinder Gill, CEO, Hero Electric, said, “It’s like putting an emergency brake on a fast moving train. Our sales were almost doubling month on month and we somehow managed with sourcing from different geographies but the war collapsed a major supply chain resulting in this disruption. While apologising to customers for waiting so long  for their favourite bikes, Gill assured that the company has geared up alternate sources and would soon resume production.”“Meanwhile we are using this time to enhance our plant capacity to increase our production volumes as well as revisit our systems and processes related to batteries to further reinforce the quality assurance of our bikes. The recent happenings of fire incidents is an awakening call for the industry and we believe that even the best of the companies should introspect and constantly improve their designs and quality to repose confidence in the electric mobility that is going through such a robust growth path.” More
