Next-gen Skoda Octavia Electric Teased – Debut Next Month

Next-gen Skoda Octavia ElectricExpected to go on sale by 2029, electric Octavia will share its platform with the VW ID.Golf
At the upcoming Munich IAA show in September, Skoda will be showcasing multiple new products and concepts. One of these will be the Vision O wagon concept that previews the next-gen electric Octavia. A new teaser has revealed some interesting details about the interiors. Let’s take a look.
Next-gen electric Octavia – What to expect?
Revealing a seamlessly connected windscreen and a panoramic roof, the teaser essentially highlights the roomy interiors of the concept. A minimalist theme is evident and the vehicle is likely built with focus on practical applications. While not clear, it appears that the concept has a large digital screen mounted in the centre.
    Next-gen Skoda Octavia Electric
Another aspect Skoda has highlighted in the teaser is the focus on using sustainable materials. This can be seen with the airy 3D-printed headrests. Skoda says that these headrests are made from compostable, plant-based materials. This is in line with the brand’s focus on environmental conservation and reducing the carbon footprint of its cars.
In an earlier image, Skoda had teased the exterior outline of the concept. It reveals that the next-gen electric Octavia will be completely different in terms of its design and styling. Some of the key features include a swept back windshield, a gently sloping roofline, a heavily raked rear windshield and sporty tail lamps.
    Next-gen Skoda Octavia Electric
One can also notice sharp LED DRLs, ORVMs with turn signals and a roof-mounted spoiler. Overall profile is built around superior aerodynamics, which enhances visual appeal and can potentially improve the vehicle’s range as well. According to Skoda, this concept essentially provides a glimpse of the carmaker’s new Modern Solid design language. It will be used for its next-gen cars including electric cars. Vision O concept seems familiar to the Audi A6 Avant e-tron. However, the LED signature at the front and rear leaves no doubt about its Skoda origins.
    Next-gen Skoda Octavia Electric
    Platform shared with VW ID.Golf
Skoda electric Octavia will be using the SSP platform, which will also be seen with the VW ID.Golf. The latter is also planned to go on sale by 2029. The SSP platform is smaller, as compared to VW’s PPE platform seen with the A6 e-tron.
Although both VW ID.Golf and next-gen Octavia electric will share the same platform, the new Octavia will have a longer wheelbase. This can unlock more spacious interiors and potentially a larger boot space as well. The SSP platform utilizes an 800-volt charging architecture, enabling faster charging times and improved efficiency.
Skoda’s next-gen cars like electric Octavia will power the brand’s future growth story. Skoda has already tasted success in the EV segment with cars like Elroq and Enyaq electric SUVs. Skoda is also working on the Epiq subcompact electric SUV, expected to be unveiled in 2025. Epiq could be introduced in India as well. Skoda Auto Volkswagen has big plans for the Indian market, as part of their India 3.0 strategy. Multiple new electric cars are planned to be launched. More

Mahindra BE 6, XEV 9e Getting Ready For Europe Debut – NU_IQ SUVs To Meet Euro NCAP Safety

New Mahindra BE 6One of the important European markets for Mahindra EVs can be UK, which has a free trade agreement with India
Mahindra has seen phenomenal success with its new-gen electric cars – BE 6 and XEV 9e. Recently launched BE 6 Batman Edition was sold out in just 135 seconds, creating a new record. After the domestic success, Mahindra is now looking to introduce its EVs across European markets. Let’s check out the details.
Mahindra EV export plans for Europe
It is worth mentioning that Mahindra already has a global presence. Overseas markets covered include Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, South Africa, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Nepal. The BE 6 and XEV 9e were recently launched in Nepal. European markets will be harder to penetrate, given the dominance of established European brands alongside rising Chinese competitors.
    Mahindra XEV 9e
However, Mahindra has some advantages too such as the free trade agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom. Also, the company already has a design studio in the UK. These factors will play a key role in helping Mahindra to launch its EVs in the UK and other European countries. A free trade agreement with Europe can further reduce complexities and costs. However, nothing has been finalized as yet.
It is reported that Mahindra has already set up a dedicated team to lead the Europe export project. However, exact details are not available. It is possible that specific variants of BE 6 and XEV 9e could be introduced in the UK. There could even be heavily tweaked versions or distinctive body styles, even though the INGLO platform will be retained.
Mahindra Vision SXT concept based on NU_IQ platform
Europe can see significant demand for EVs in the future, as nations aim to reduce emissions. The European Union has set the target of zero emissions by 2035, applicable for all new cars and vans. Similarly, the United Kingdom aims to have EVs contribute 80% of the overall car sales in the country. Chinese carmakers like BYD, MG Motor, Leapmotor and Haval are already attracting UK customers with advanced, yet competitively priced offerings. Something similar is possible with Mahindra’s new-gen electric cars.
    More traction with NU_IQ SUVs
Mahindra’s SUVs built on the advanced NU_IQ platform could unlock even greater export potential. SUVs derived from this platform will target local as well as global C-segment SUV markets. A multi-energy platform, NU_IQ supports various powertrains including ICE, hybrid and electric. The company has already stated that NU_IQ meets the safety requirements of Euro NCAP, Australian NCAP and Bharat NCAP.
With the NU_IQ platform, Mahindra can access both ICE and EV segments in Europe. Starting point will be the UK, which currently seems the most viable option. Other European markets can be explored later. Regions like Eastern Europe present strong opportunities, owing to the large segment of price-sensitive consumers. Mahindra could introduce the necessary tweaks in styling and equipment list based on local preferences.

Tata Harrier EV Summon Mode Mishap Reported in Tamil Nadu, One Dead

Tata Harrier EV Summon Mode MishapA tragic incident has been reported from Avinashi, Tamil Nadu, where a brand-new Tata Harrier EV allegedly malfunctioned while operating in “summon mode,” resulting in the death of a user’s relative.
According to a post shared by a Reddit user earlier today, the victim sustained a severe head injury during the mishap and later succumbed. The incident, captured on video, shows the SUV in motion under summon mode — a feature that allows the vehicle to move autonomously at low speeds without direct driver input.

Fatal Accident Reported Involving Tata Harrier EV Summon Mode in Tamil Nadu pic.twitter.com/ETgWyoz8GF
    — RushLane (@rushlane) August 20, 2025

According to a Reddit post, the incident occurred when the vehicle’s summon mode was either activated accidentally or malfunctioned. The car reportedly began moving while the driver’s side door was open. In an attempt to stop the moving SUV, the man tried to apply the brakes, but slipped and fell, sustaining a head injury. He was declared brain dead by doctors shortly after.
The CCTV time and date stamp is 14th August 2025, evening around 5:53 PM. The circumstances that led to the accident remain unclear, and it is not yet verified whether the malfunction was due to a technical fault, user error, or external factors.

Family members are still in shock and have not initiated legal proceedings against Tata Motors. The Redditor further claimed that the deceased had already faced a software-related issue with the Harrier EV prior to the accident. On one occasion, the car reportedly shut down on the road and failed to restart until technicians from the dealership intervened. Authorities in Avinashi are yet to confirm details about the case or whether an investigation has been initiated.
Tata Motors has reached out to clarify that the Harrier EV involved in the reported incident remains with the family, and not with the company. Below is the official statement from the company.
Update 21st Aug – Tata Motors Statement
“We were informed of the tragic accident and are deeply saddened by the loss. Our thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt support are with the deceased’s family. We are currently gathering all relevant facts. Preliminary observations from video shared online/ on social media suggests that the vehicle may have rolled back from the top of a slope due to gravity and ricocheted after striking an unknown object, suggesting that the motor was not engaged. The vehicle remains with the family and has been driven since the incident, and we have not yet had the opportunity to inspect it.”
The Harrier EV, which was launched a few weeks ago, is among the company’s most advanced electric SUVs, equipped with modern driver-assist and convenience features, including summon functionality. The reported death has sparked concern and debate online about the safety of semi-autonomous features in vehicles operating in Indian conditions. Road safety experts stress that while advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and summon functions are designed for convenience, they must always be used with caution, and users should remain vigilant.
