Tesla Confirms New Cheaper Model Y – To Boost Sales, Revenue

Tesla Model Y testing in IndiaHeadwinds are expected ahead for Tesla with the upcoming discontinuation of federal tax credit and regulatory credits
Tesla is grappling with challenges on multiple fronts, from weakening demand and significant policy shifts to intensifying competition. This has prompted the carmaker to deploy new strategies, one of which is to launch an affordable version of the Model Y. As of now, Model Y is Tesla’s top selling product, contributing around 2/3rd to total global deliveries.
Cheaper Model Y – What to expect?
Production of the affordable Tesla Model Y is planned to commence around August or September. Tesla has not provided any specific details about the new model. However, with cost reduction in mind, one can expect some changes in the configuration and equipment list. For example, a lower capacity battery with reduced range could be included. Some of the premium features such as active noise cancellation, rear 8-inch touchscreen, etc. could be axed.
In terms of pricing, the affordable Tesla Model Y could be aiming at a price of around $30,000 or less. As of now, Tesla Model Y is priced at $37,490 for the long-range rear-wheel drive variant and $41,490 for the long-range all-wheel drive variant. These prices are inclusive of the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit that is currently available to customers in the United States. However, the Federal Tax Credit system will be ending on September 30, 2025. That will lead to a sharp increase in prices of Tesla cars. That’s where the affordable Tesla Model Y becomes relevant.
    Sales slump, regulatory credits discontinuation
Another worry is the slowdown in demand, with Tesla reporting a drop in sales for the second consecutive quarter. Second quarter CY2025 earnings witnessed a 16% drop at $1.17 billion. This was largely due to a 13% drop in sales, led by factors like rising operating expenses and reduced earnings per unit sold.
In the future, Tesla’s earnings from regulatory credits will also reduce. Also called carbon credits or zero-emission vehicle credits, these credits are purchased by ICE-based vehicle manufacturers who exceed their emission limits. EV manufacturers like Tesla have surplus credits, which are sold for 100% profit. This has been a significant source of revenue for Tesla and other EV-only manufacturers.
But with the new One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), traditional automakers won’t be fined for failing to meet CAFE standards in the United States. This in turn will reduce the incentive to buy credits from Tesla. In Q2, CY2025, Tesla reported a significant 51% drop in regulatory credit revenue. That amounts to a loss of $441 million, as compared to Q2 2024 figures. And $154 million of that decline occurred since the previous quarter (Q1 2025).
    Musk confident about future growth
Elon Musk admitted that the company could face a few rough quarters. This resulted in the share prices tanking by 7%. However, Musk views these challenges as temporary setbacks rather than fundamental structural issues. Musk is expecting new revenue sources such as Tesla’s upcoming self-driving tech.
It will be seen with the robotaxi service, which is currently being tested in Texas. The self-driving tech will also be used in vehicles such as the Cybercab. Tesla is also working on advanced humanoid robots, which can be a gamechanger and emerge as a major source of income. According to Musk, Tesla’s challenges will likely be resolved by the second half or by the end of next year. More

MG Comet EV New Prices – July 2025
MG Comet EV is offered in three broad trims – Executive, Excite and Exclusive. There’s a special Blackstorm Edition as well. Price of the base Executive variant has been increased by Rs 14,300. With that, the base variant is now available at Rs 7.50 lakh. Comet EV Excite and Exclusive variants have witnessed a price hike of Rs 15,000 each. Even with a starting price of Rs 7.50 lakh, MG Comet EV works out more affordable than its primary rivals. For example, Tata Tiago EV is available at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh. Citroen eC3 is priced much higher at Rs 11.99 lakh. Later this year, MG Comet EV could see a new rival in the form of Renault Kwid EV. Test vehicles have been spotted multiple times in recent months. Renault Kwid EV could be launched at around Rs 7 lakh (base variant) (all prices Ex-sh).
    MG Comet EV
    More accessible with BaaS
MG Motor’s industry-first BaaS program has been a major success. If we look at MG’s sales breakup, the Windsor EV is the top selling car. Comet EV is the second bestseller, contributing close to 15% to the brand’s overall sales volumes. A number of buyers choose the BaaS ownership program, as it significantly reduces the initial acquisition cost. Paying the battery charges per kilometre is a lot easier to fit within the monthly budget.
Under the BaaS ownership program for Comet EV, the battery rental is currently Rs 3.1 per km. Earlier, it was Rs 2.9 per km. At the time of Comet EV launch, the battery rental was Rs 2.50 per km. With the BaaS program, the base Executive variant can be purchased at just Rs 4.99 lakh.
MG Comet Excite variant under BaaS is available at Rs 6.20 lakh. The Excite FC will cost Rs 6.60 lakh, whereas the Exclusive starts at Rs 7.20 lakh. Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6 New Variants Homologated
With the launch of BE 6 and XEV 9e, Mahindra has set a new precedent for electric vehicles in India to follow. These are easily the most exciting and futuristic electric vehicles to have ever launched in mainstream Indian car market.
Recently, Mahindra expanded the variant lineup of BE 6 and XEV 9e with Pack Two B79 variants, which outshined the competition with immense VFM quotient. Mahindra will further expand the variant lineup as suggested by recent homologation documents that have leaked on the internet. Let’s take a closer look.
BE 6 and XEV 9e 4 New Variants
After launching Pack Two B79 variants of BE 6 and XE 9e, Mahindra is applying a similar strategy to further expand the variant lineup. This time, Mahindra has turned its gaze towards Pack Three and Pack Three Select trim levels to carve out more variants with versatile battery options to have a wider reach than what was announced at launch.
Mahindra BE 6 New Variants Homologated
Speaking of announcements at launch, BE 6 and XEV 9e Pack Two trim was strictly limited to a 59 kWh battery pack. This was changed recently based on customer feedback and Mahindra launched Pack Two with a larger 79 kWh battery pack. Now we can see new variants carved out of BE 6 and XEV 9e based on a similar strategy.
As per the leaked documents, Mahindra has created more variants of Pack Three and Pack Three Select trim levels of BE 6 and XEV 9e. At launch, Pack Three Select trim of BE 6 and XEV 9e was strictly limited to a 59 kWh battery and the top-spec Pack Three of BE 6 and XEV 9e only got a larger 79 kWh battery pack.
    Where do they fit in?
Now, BE 6 and XEV 9e will soon get Pack Three Select B79 (79 kWh battery) and Pack Three B59 (59 kWh battery) variants. This means, Pack Three Select trim will get an option for a larger 79 kWh battery pack which promises a range of up to 656 km and Pack Three trim will get an option for a smaller 59 kWh battery pack.
Mahindra XEV 9e New Variants Homologated
These new variants will cater to buyers looking for more features than Pack Two B79 with a larger battery pack for range needs and buyers who don’t need all that range, but crave for all the bells and whistles BE 6 and XEV 9e offers. When launched, Pack Three Select B79 and Pack Three B59 variants of BE 6 and XEV 9e are likely to boost sales further. More

11 Features MG M9 Gets Over Toyota Vellfire – At Almost Half The Price

Toyota Vellfire (left), MG M9 (right)JSW MG M9 Presidential Limousine has been launched in India for an attractive price point of Rs 69.9 lakh (Ex-sh). Where on-road price is concerned, MG M9 undercuts all of its rivals in India, including the Kia Carnival. Among the luxury MPVs in India, is Toyota Vellfire, which has established itself quite well in the country.
Where pricing is concerned, Toyota Vellfire starts from Rs 1.22 Cr for Hi variant and costs Rs 1.33 Cr for top-spec VIP – Executive Lounge variant (both prices Ex-sh). In contrast, MG M9 is launched in India in just one loaded Presidential Limousine variant that costs almost half of what Vellfire does. In this post, let’s take a closer look at 10 things MG M9 offers over Toyota Vellfire.
    MG M9 Size
    1. Size Advantage
Toyota Vellfire is already a large vehicle with immense room on the inside. MG M9, on the other hand, is simply larger in terms of dimensions. Bringing numbers into the equation, MG M9 is 265 mm longer, 150 mm wider and has a 200 mm longer wheelbase than Vellfire. This translates to better road presence and more room on the inside.
    2. Higher Ground Clearance
Not only is the MG M9 larger than Vellfire, but also has higher ground clearance. M9 has a ground clearance of 180 mm, as opposed to 160 mm of Vellfire. Both vehicles get 19-inch alloy wheels.
    3. More Airbags
Toyota Vellfire offers 6 airbags even on its top-spec VIP – Executive Lounge. In contrast, MG M9 offers 7 airbags as standard.
    4. Better Crash Safety Rating
Toyota Vellfire has been crash tested by JNCAP (Japanese NCAP) where the luxury MPV has scored 4 Star crash safety rating out of 5. In comparison, MG M9 has scored a full-fat 5 Star crash safety rating in ANCAP (Australian NCAP) and 5 Star crash safety rating in Euro NCAP, which is considered to be the most stringent in the world.
    MG M9 Rear Seat
    5. Better Ingress Into 3rd Row
In a Toyota Vellfire, the narrow interiors allow for a little passage to access 3rd row seats which is accessed by moving 2nd row seats all the way front. Cabin space in MG M9 is so immense, one can just walk between 2nd row seats, which is a much better solution.
    6. Driver’s Seat Flexibility
In MG M9, driver’s seat is 12-way electrically adjustable when compared to Vellfire’s 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Also, both the front seats get a massaging function, which is not the case with Vellfire. In addition, there’s a driver monitoring camera in MG M9 too.
    MG M9 Sunroofs
    7. Proper Sunroof (s)
Toyota Vellfire gets two narrow glass roofs above both 2nd row seats which only give a tiny viewing area and they don’t open either. In comparison, MG M9 gets two sunroofs and both of them can open to let air in. First row gets a single-pane sunroof and second row gets a massive panoramic sunroof.
    8. More Flexibility in 2nd Row Seats
Both MG M9 and Toyota Vellfire offer throne like experience with their 2nd row seats. In Vellfire, 2nd row seats are 8-way electrically adjustable and MG M9 offers twice that as they are 16-way electrically adjustable. Also, there are 3 memory settings for 2nd row seats of M9, where Vellfire only has 1.
    MG M9 Digital IRVM
    9. Better Mirrors (ORVMs, IRVM)
MG M9 offers heated ORVMs, which Vellfire lacks. Where IRVM is concerned, MG offers a digital IRVM for versatility. This IRVM has multiple settings too. These include zoom, position, brightness and saturation.
    10. Self-sealing Tyres
MG M9 offers self-sealing tyres as it runs on 19-inch ContiSeal tyres that can self repair punctures to certain extent. This feature is missing on Toyota Vellfire.
    MG M9 Ambient Lighting
    11. Better Ambient Lighting
Toyota Vellfire has ambient lighting features too with 14 colour options. MG M9, however, takes it up a notch with a more extensive ambient lighting and offers 64 colours to choose from. More

Kia Carens Clavis EV First Drive Review – Dawn Of The 7S EVs

Kia Carens EV First Drive ReviewKia has been on the verge of captivating more of Indian automotive market. The company is approaching its goals with a multi-pronged strategy. One of the prongs is a mainstream fully electric vehicle to boost its presence in the lucrative electric car space in India. In that regard, Kia India has just launched the Carens Clavis EV, which is not only Kia’s first ever mainstream EV, it is India’s first mainstream 7-seater EV. We drove Kia Carens Clavis EV at the national media drive in Bengaluru and here’s what we think about this vehicle.
Kia Carens Clavis EV First Drive Review
With Carens Clavis EV, Kia is offering buyers a unique mobility solution which was unheard of in the country’s mainstream market. Where pricing is concerned, Kia Carens Clavis EV starts from Rs 17.99 lakh (Ex-sh) for the base HTK+ variant. Speaking of, there are three trim levels on offer – HTK+, HTX and HTX+. [embedded content]
Where HTK+ is exclusively offered with a 42 kWh battery pack and HTX+ is exclusively offered with a 51.4 kWh battery pack. The mid-spec HTX trim gets both options. There are as many as six colour options to choose from – Glacier Pearl White, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue and Ivory Silver Matte.
    Carens Clavis EV Design
    Design & Appearance
When compared to Carens Clavis ICE, the ‘Opposites Unites’ design language on Carens Clavis EV looks almost identical. However, there are a few key design highlights that only the EV gets, to establish design distinction. These design elements include connecting LED light bar, new 17-inch alloy wheels with a geometric pattern and the addition of front fog lights.
    Carens Clavis EV Design
Also exclusive to Carens Clavis EV are the front charging port and an active front flap which opens and closes as needed to optimize aerodynamic performance. Headlights are the same Triple Ice Cube design LED reflector units engulfed by a stylish LED DRL signature that also doubles as the turn indicators. Chrome type applique on lower bumper is present too, lending a sophisticated appearance.
    Carens Clavis EV Design
Under Kia Carens Clavis EV’s front bonnet, is a frunk, which houses charging cable and CCS2 gun neatly encases in premium cases and the company is ensuring that you have a premium experience while using the frunk with the use of hydraulic struts that requires little to no effort to get this heavy bonnet open. Another addition with Carens Clavis EV is the V2L (inside and outside).
    Carens Clavis EV Boot
    Spacious Interiors
Boot space, on the other hand, is similar to what we see with Carens Clavis ICE model. Both vehicles share the same dashboard and door trims too, which is not a bad thing. We get the same 2-spoke steering wheel with audio controls on the right and instrumentation controls on the left. This steering wheel is adjustable for height and reach.
    Carens Clavis EV Interiors
Behind this steering wheel is a 26.62-inch Dual Panoramic display comprising of a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster. The system supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and is connected to a premium Bose audio system. There are USB ports, wireless charging pad, smart infotainment and climate control Swap Screen. Same as Carens Clavis.
    Carens Clavis EV Interiors
What’s different with Carens Clavis EV is the new centre console which now gets a multi-layered storage system with adjustable cup-holders on top, hidden beneath a sliding door. This is where you can find the ventilated seat controls, 360-degree camera button, parking sensor switch and others.
    Carens Clavis EV Interiors
Electronic parking brake switch, however, has been shifted near the headlight levelling dial, out of driver’s peripheral view. Also moved away from centre console is the gear selector, which has been shifted to the steering column, similar to Creta Electric. Even the start button is situated on this stalk, inconveniently labelled EV instead of Start. Paddle shifters exist to control regeneration and even engage I-Pedal mode.
    Carens Clavis EV Frunk
    Features & Safety
Other notable features include electrically adjustable driver’s seat, auto headlight, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, an air purifier, dedicated blower for rear occupants, roof-mounted AC vents for 2nd and 3rd rows, tray table and manually operated Boss Mode for 2nd row left passenger, front and rear armrest, one-touch tumble feature for 2nd row seats, adjustable headrests and more.
    Carens Clavis EV Features
The Level-2 ADAS offered by Kia has up to 20 autonomous driving features including the likes of auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and others. All important ADAS features are present. Adding to the safety are 6 airbags as standard, ABS, EBD, ESP, TCS, an intuitive 360-degree camera, blindspot assist on TFT cluster, 3-point seatbelts and seatbelt reminders.
    Carens Clavis EV Features
    Specs & Powertrains
Kia Carens Clavis EV measures 4,550 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, 1,730 mm in height and packs a 2,780 mm long wheelbase. Ground clearance on Carens Clavis EV is 200 mm, lending it an SUV stance. Where powertrain is concerned, Kia Carens Clavis EV packs similar battery and motor options as the Hyundai Creta Electric. Lower variants get the smaller 42 kWh battery with 404 km of claimed range and higher variants pack a larger 51.4 kWh battery with 490 km of claimed range.
    Carens Clavis EV
The smaller 42 kWh battery variants get a 133 bhp and 255 Nm electric motor and larger 51.4 kWh battery variants get a 169 bhp and 255 Nm electric motor. Both powertrain options get FWD layout, driving front wheels. Choosing the latter will give you quicker acceleration too, taking 8.4 seconds to sprint from 0-100 km/h.
    Carens Clavis EV Features
Similar to Hyundai Creta Electric, Kia Carens Clavis EV offers up to 11 kW AC charging, which some vehicles in this price point lacks. With this 11 kW AC charger, larger 51.4 kWh battery can be charged from 10% to 100% in 4h 45m. With a 100 kW DC charger, 10% to 80% should take just 39 minutes.
    Carens Clavis EV Front Seats
    Ride Quality & Performance
The suspension setup on Kia Carens Clavis is set up on the softer side and the large 17-inch wheels do a good job of towering over road undulations. Combination of these two also allows for a plush ride quality with great bump absorption characteristics. Because it is setup for comfort, handling takes a back seat as there is a decent amount of body roll and vertical bob.
    Carens Clavis EV Rear Seats
However, Carens Clavis EV is not advertised as a sporty product and the soft suspension is actually fitting to its target demographic. Braking performance is one area where we would have liked better initial bite. That said, the regen in i-Pedal mode is quite strong and is intuitive once you get the hang of it.
    Carens Clavis EV Steering
One positive aspect of being an EV is that Carens Clavis EV packs quite a punch where performance is concerned. Acceleration is instantaneous and is quite addictive, encouraging you to go heavy on the throttle. Kia promises 8.6s 0-100 km/h sprint and it is fairly achievable in Sports Mode. Eco Mode is what you need to eke out maximum range.
    Carens Clavis EV Features
    Conclusion
Wrapping things up, we think concluding the Kia Carens Clavis EV is quite easy. It is the country’s only 7-seater mainstream EV and the company has identified a popular niche. Carens Clavis EV advocates itself, appealing to large families and even a smaller family that needs a larger boot than what a typical 5-seater EV would provide.
    Carens Clavis EV
In that regard, Carens Clavis EV scores big and it comes with Kia’s assurance of reliability, dependability and consistent electronics. So, if you’re in the market to buy an electric SUV, Kia Carens Clavis EV is an easy recommendation for the masses even if you don’t need a 7-seater. Even in terms of pricing, Kia is matching the 5-seater electric SUVs on sale in India. Versatility is always better than not having the option at all. More
