Citroen eC3 Scores 0 Safety Rating In Global NCAP – Bodyshell Stable (Stellantis Statement)

Citroen eC3 crash test – Global NCAPCitroen C3 Electric Receives Disappointing Crash Test Results in IndiaIn a recent crash test conducted by Global NCAP, the safety rating for the Citroen C3 electric, also known as eC3, has been revealed, stirring concerns about its safety features. Launched in India in February 2023, the Citroen C3 electric garnered attention for its eco-friendly design and innovative features. However, the crash test results paint a different picture, highlighting significant safety shortcomings.Citroen C3 Electric Crash Test ResultsAccording to Global NCAP, the Citroen eC3 scored a dismal 0-star safety rating for adult passengers and a mere 1-star safety rating for child passengers. Despite being equipped with dual front airbags, seat belt reminders, and belt load limiters, the model lacked crucial safety features, contributing to its poor performance in the crash tests.Citroen eC3 crash test – Global NCAPGlobal NCAP noted that while the body shell integrity during frontal impacts remained stable, the absence of features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), ISOFIX, Side Airbags, and Knee Airbags undermined the overall safety rating. Additionally, the lack of side head protection made side pole impact testing impossible. In their assessment of adult safety, Global NCAP highlighted various deficiencies. Although the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck during frontal impacts was commendable, weak chest protection for the driver and poor chest protection for the passenger limited the rating to one star. Moreover, inadequate knee protection for the driver and unstable footwell areas further compromised safety.[embedded content]For child safety, Global NCAP observed that while the child seat for a 3-year-old installed forward-facing failed to prevent excessive forward exposure and head contact, side impact protection was satisfactory. However, concerns arose regarding the absence of three-point seat belts in all seating positions and insufficient Isofix positions as standard features.Consumer Awareness and Safety PrioritizationCommenting on the results, Global NCAP emphasized the importance of comprehensive safety measures in vehicles, especially in emerging markets like India. They urged manufacturers to prioritize safety features to protect both adult occupants and children in the event of a crash.Alejandro Furas, Global NCAP Secretary General said, “This is an appalling result from Stellantis. PSA was once a leader in safety, but now, as part of the Stellantis group, the manufacturer appears to have taken a major backward step. We hope that this apparent negative trend is corrected globally as a matter of urgency.”David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation said, “This result from Sellantis is of serious concern, not only for consumers in the Indian market but also for those in emerging economies around the world.”Manufacturer’s Response and Future ConsiderationsResponding to the crash test result, Stellantis has shared the following statement – “Stellantis confirms its vehicles comply with all current local market regulations and its commitment to safety with six airbags and additional safety features as standard across products in India during the second half of the year.” More

With the launch of Punch.ev with its stellar packaging and fat brochure, Citroen is upping its EV game too.Citroen eC3 Shine LaunchedIts ICE counterpart, C3 Hatchback, was also offered in Live and Feel trims initially and added top-spec Shine trim later on. Tata Punch EV Vs Citroen eC3 – Who Blows The Final Punch?

Tata Punch EVWhen compared head-to-head, Tata Punch EV vs Citroen eC3 tables indicate a significant shift in favour of the formerIndia’s best-selling EV maker, Tata Motors, has added yet another vehicle to its already impressive lineup. We’re talking about the recently launched Tata Punch EV (marketed as Punch.ev). The car is poised to disrupt the market taking on any car (ICE or EV) of any segment within the Rs. 11 lakh to Rs. 15 lakh price bracket.Tata Punch EV Vs Citroen eC3Punch EV is launched in India recently starting from Rs. 10.99 lakh to Rs. 14.5 lakh (ex-sh). The car has all the qualities and potential to be a market disruptor. We’re not talking about only electric cars in India. We’re talking about both EV and ICE realms alike. Such is Punch EV’s expected uproar in popularity and demand. However, comparing apples to apples, Tata Punch’s primary rival is Citroen eC3 and to some extent, we can also compare it to Tiago EV, which is India’s current best-selling electric car. MG Comet is a 3-door (2 side doors and a tailgate) vehicle and comparing it to Punch EV makes very little sense.Punch EV is acing the rivals by offering more of everything. Tata is offering Punch EV in 5 trim levels. Or Personas, as Tata calls them. These are Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered+. Tata is cleverly offering a 7.2 kW AC charger and sunroof as optional extra each costing an additional Rs. 50,000.Tata Punch EV Vs Citroen eC3 Vs Tata Tiago EV – SpecsThe standard Punch EV gets a 25 kWh battery, while LR model gets a 35 kWh unit. Called Acti.ev, this is India’s first dedicated EV platform that is not shared with its ICE counterparts. With LR model, peak power is 120.7 bhp and peak torque is 190 Nm. Performance is properly zippy too, with Tata claiming 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds with LR model. Top speed is 140 km/h with Punch EV LR, which is higher than both the rivals. What makes Punch EV better? With added performance, Tata has also offered rear disc brakes with LR. Boot space is 366L, which is more than 315L of eC3 and 240L of Tiago EV. The claimed range with Standard Punch EV is 215 km on a single charge and 421 km with Punch EV LR. For context, Citroen eC3 claims 320 km and Tiago EV’s range maxes out at a claimed 315 km.All cars get CCS 2 standard charging socket. Owing to larger battery packs, Tata Punch EV’s charging time with AC chargers are slightly longer. With fast DC charger, Punch EV boasts the quickest 10-80% charge at 56 minutes. Punch EV has the biggest wheels at 16-inchers and fattest tyres at 195-section and ground clearance is highest too, at 190 mm.Tata Punch EV Vs Citroen eC3 Vs Tata Tiago EV – FeaturesBest-in-class interiorsWhere interiors and features are concerned, Punch EV blows the other two out of the water. Especially Citroen eC3 which doesn’t really offer all that much except for a 10.2-inch touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In comparison, Tiago EV comes off as a significantly feature-rich product. But Punch EV emerges the champ with the fattest brochure among these three. Punch EV has ventilated seats, leatherette upholstery, new steering wheel from Nexon with illuminated logo, optional sunroof, auto headlights, auto wipers, projector LED headlights, TPMS, an air purifier, full-width LED DRLs with welcome and goodbye function, 360-degree camera with blindspot monitoring, fully configurable TFT instrument screen, mood lighting, cornering lights and a ton more features.Citroen eC3 Shine Trim Indonesia-specGiven the pricing between Rs. 10.99 lakh and Rs. 14.49 lakh (ex-sh), Punch EV easily justifies the added extra than Tiago EV’s pricing and makes a much stronger proposition where performance, range and features are concerned. The base price of Citroen eC3 looks higher, but it offers a sole 29.2 kWh battery pack. But Citroen eC3 absolutely takes the final blow from Tata Punch owing to lack-lustre features list, performance (on paper) and range (on paper). Citroen India should probably consider launching Shine trim with eC3 like it does in Indonesia. More

Euro-spec Citroen eC3 Breaks Cover – How Much Better Than Indian Model?

Euro-spec Citroen eC3 hatchbackEven though Euro-spec Citroen eC3 is based on a heavily modified version of Indian eC3’s CC21 platform, there are stark differences between both modelsThe iconic French carmaker, Citroen, has taken covers off its new Euro-spec eC3 electric hatchback. This is touted for European market and is different from the eC3 hatchback that Citroen has on offer in India. So, the obvious question arises as to just how much better is Euro-spec Citroen eC3 is, than India-spec Citroen eC3.Euro-spec Citroen eC3 breaks coverFor starters, Euro-spec Citroen eC3 is significantly more premium-looking than India-spec Citroen eC3. Even though the overall silhouette and proportions are comparable, Euro model looks a lot more sophisticated. Starting with the fascia, Euro model has Citroen’s new logo that sits proudly on its nose. There are significantly more stylish LED DRL signatures with Euro model and it has LED headlights between DRLs. Lower bumper has two black plastic trims, while there are sleeker and squarish fog light housings closer to the centre. There are smaller air dams too as Euro-spec Citroen eC3 is electric only, unlike Indian model.Basic silhouette is closer between two models. But, India-spec models have cheaper-feeling lift-type door handles and fender-mounted turn indicators, which are turn-offs. Because top-spec Shine trim is still not on offer with India-spec eC3, there are no alloy wheels, while Euro model has stylish 17-inch alloy wheels.Euro-spec Citroen eC3 dashboardThere are no LED tail light elements with Indian model along with dual-tone bumper designs. The muscular power bulges on bonnet are more pronounced with Euro-spec model and the same trend continues with the rest of sheet metal profiling and detailing of the rest of its exterior design.Which is plusher on the inside?Euro-spec Citroen eC3 has a lot more tech and premiumness to offer than India-spec eC3. For starters, the steering on Euro model is chunkier and gets leather cladding and stitching. The dual-layered dashboard looks like it has fabric cladding for a soft-touch feel. AC vents, buttons, switches and interior trims are a lot more premium and sophisticated too.Features including auto climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a heads-up display, a higher-res 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, a sophisticated centre console, wireless phone charging, front centre armrest are exclusive to Euro-spec Citroen eC3 only.Euro-spec Citroen eC3 sophisticated designEuro model is based on a heavily modified version of Indian eC3’s CC21 platform, christened ‘Smart Car’ platform. Given that it is for European market, there will be a thorough rework where crash safety is concerned. Other than that, Euro model will pack better safety tech and other mandated compliances too.In terms of powertrains, India-spec Citroen eC3 packs a smaller 29.2 kWh battery pack that powers a 57 PS single electric motor, promising 320 km of range. Euro model has a larger 44 kWh battery pack, 113 PS electric motors, promising 320 km range. We don’t expect European model to go on sale in India. But when Citroen is facelifting C3 in India, we now know where the inspiration will be drawn from. The company recently launched C3 Aircross in India. More

Its front fascia shows off black coloured plastic body cladding in the front and a Citroen logo in a matte silver finish. The eC3 EV is being offered in four mono-tone options and nine dual-tone options.[embedded content]Moving over to the sides, there is the charging port along with manually operated ORVMs while Live trim rides on 15 inch steel wheels with covers. Features also include blacked out B and C pillars, black finished door handles along with Citroen badging and eC3 logo at the rear. The Live trim also misses out on rear wiper and defogger. Boot space stands at 315 liters and sports a spare wheel.Interiors are also the very basic as the eC3 misses out on a touchscreen infotainment system which can be got as an accessory. It gets fabric seat upholstery with fixed headrests, a comfortable driver seat but it is not height adjustable while the steering wheel too is not tilt adjustable.Citroen eC3 Live trim receives most of the safety equipment seen on the Feel variant. Citroen C3 Aircross Electric 7 Seater SUV Spied For 1st Time?

Citroen C3 Aircross Electric Spied? When launched, Citroen eC3 Aircross could pack close to 40 kWh battery, enabling a range of around 450 km on a single chargeThe French brand hatched C-Cubed strategy to tackle the tricky Indian automotive market. This plan involved targeting mainstream segments that generate the most volumes in India and heavy localization of up to 95%. We got C3 Hatchback, its electric derivative eC3 and recently, C3 Aircross 7-seater compact SUV.At the C3 Aircross debut event, Citroen had expressed its intention of launching an electrified version of its 7-seater compact SUV. Now, Citroen seems to have commenced testing of eC3 Aircross. This will be India’s first sub Rs. 20 lakh electric 7-seater.Citroen eC3 Aircross Spied Testing?Automotive enthusiast Venkat Ram spotted this test mule in Chennai recently and shared the same on Rushlane Spylane Facebook group. In the short video, this test mule is fully draped in camouflage despite debuting already. At first glance, it looks like a regular Citroen C3 Aircross test mule.On keener inspection, we can see its battery module jutting out of its skateboard. We saw something similar in our first drive impressions of eC3. But on the eC3 hatchback, a 29.2 kWh battery module is only visible from the side and not from the rear. On the recent test mule, a battery pack is evident from the rear as well.[embedded content]This could be an indication of a larger battery spread out till the rear. So, a 40 kWh battery could be possible, considering the smaller Nexon EV Max gets a 40.5 kWh battery. The test mule dons a temporary registration plate dated 2021, which seems to be in line with Citroen’s product development as the first set of eC3 test mules are believed to be registered in 2020.What will it pack other than an electric powertrain?Everything Citroen offers on C3 Aircross and some more. For starters, Citroen eC3 Aircross will pack the same interiors as its ICE counterpart along with a drive selector and center console from eC3 Hatchback. So, a 10.2” horizontal touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver’s display, and steering-mounted controls will be on offer.Apart from these, roof-mounted rear AC vents, an option between seven and five seating layouts, quirky styling, swanky 17” alloy wheels, roof rails, and LED DRLs are highly likely. While at it, we hope Citroen throws in LED headlights, LED fog lamps, cruise control, keyless entry, and probably even a sunroof, considering how trendy it is in India.Launch Price Around Rs 15-20 Lakh?Hyundai is testing an electrified Creta to launch in India. It could share powertrains with Kona EV and will rival Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and to some extent, the smaller Tata Nexon EV Max. Citroen eC3 Aircross will lock horns with these EVs when launched. It can offer a claimed range of about 450 km and a real-world range of 350 km.The Ace in this French car maker’s sleeve will definitely be quirky styling and 7 seats (5+2). Current eC3 hatchback costs between Rs. 11.50 lakh and Rs. 12.43 lakh. Which is around Rs. 5 lakh over its ICE counterparts. If ICE C3 Aircross starts from Rs. 8.5 to Rs. 9 lakh, eC3 Aircross is likely to cost from around Rs. 16 lakh (all prices ex-sh). More
