The AWD variant has a dual-motor setup that generates 235 hp.With the larger battery pack, the RWD variant is powered by a single 229 hp motor. The AWD variant gets a dual-motor setup generating 325 hp. Range topping GT Line utilizes a dual motor AWD setup that churns out 585 hp and 740 Nm. Range varies based on the variant, maximum being 310 miles (~499 km), as per EPA estimated range. EV6 can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour (0-100 kmph) in 4.6 seconds.     Ford Cancels Plan To Make Electric Cars In India – To Sell Both Plants

In 2019, the auto manufacturer announced an agreement with Mahindra to work on a JV. Less than 2 years later, the collaboration ended. The outline focused on cost effective vehicle development and production for emerging markets.While initial outlook pointed to Ford continuing with its own production plans in smaller UV segments, the manufacturer finally chose to exit manufacturing in September 2021. Ford was again back in focus having made it to the list of 20 carmakers that were part of the Champion OEM Incentive scheme, part of the PLI scheme. The announcement was made in February 2022. Plans pointed to EV manufacturing.Ford Does Not Want To Invest Any Further In IndiaDespite approval of its Production Linked Incentive (PLI) application, this plan has now been dropped. Ford’s decision is to not advance its EV manufacturing plans in India. While the auto manufacturer expresses gratitude for having its proposal approved, this option is now not being explored. The application won’t see the light of day as Ford isn’t investing in India.The Champion OEM Incentive Scheme has a budgetary outlay of about 26k crore. In the meantime, Ford has been partaking in dialogue with other Indian manufacturers regarding its 2 plants here. This is part of the initial plan wherein both plants are sold. Gujarat plant is all set to be sold to Tata Motors, claims unconfirmed reports.Ford Mustang ElectricIndian car manufacturersCurrent business undertones point to a shift to EVs. The goals set point to substantial transition by the end of the decade for electric two-wheelers, CVc, and passenger cars. To this end, Central and select State governments have announced specified incentives. While there has been much activity in the electric two-wheeler front, it’s not the same for cars.A large number of new manufacturers have either already entered the 2W segment or have announced their intent to do so. However, where passenger car manufacturing is concerned, the market has over time lost multiple manufacturers. Datsun being the most recent manufacturer to choose an exit. Prior to Ford, General Motors exited production for India. Somewhere along the way, Fiat stopped making cars here. In comparison, 3 new entrants have been working their way up – MG Motor India, Kia, and Citroen.Shift to electric carsFor now, the electric car market in India is small. This is wholly dominated by Tata Motors currently. Other manufacturers who are selling at least 1 electric car in India, do so in price tag variation that at best is a high price point. It would be interesting to see if India’s focused development of electric cars focuses on keeping things simple. The need of the hour is mass market EVs that are affordable. The world however has advanced manifolds and manufacturers are able to make available luxury electric cars.This makes sense because buying predictions are based on whether a buyer can afford the car. And, a luxury electric car always stands a chance because its buyers can afford the price tag. So, while a Tesla is everything one can want, this pricey proposition isn’t going to benefit buyers. Of the two, it is Curvv which is closer to production. Though not all that is trademarked gets launched or is showcased as a concept, some do. For example, a few days before the unveiling of Curvv, Tata Motors had filed a trademark for the name. Along with Curvv, they had also filed Sliq. But we are yet to hear anything about Tata Sliq.Now, the latest update from trademark filings is that Tata Motors has filed 4 new names. These are – Tata Styzor, Tata Bovita, Tata Auroar and Tata Xiomara. These names were filed by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle division. It is highly likely that these are the names of their upcoming electric cars.Tata Motors Registers 4 New Names – Xiomara, Styzor, Bovita and AuroarTata Motors Electric Cars PlanIt is anybody’s guess what these new Tata car names could become in the future. What we do know is that Curvv will become the first car from Tata Motors to be launched with an electric powertrain first. Until now, Tata Motors launched the petrol / diesel ICE option first, and then modified these to get fitted with electric motor and battery. We saw this happen with Nexon as well as Tigor.That will not be the case with Curvv. It has been designed from the ground up to be an electric car. It will also be launched with a petrol / diesel engine option at a later date. But first, it will be launched as an all electric car. There are no plans to launch Curvv as a hybrid.After this, comes the Avinya concept. Current crop of Tata electric cars are referred to as Gen 1 EVs. Gen 2 will be Curvv, and Gen 3 will be Avinya. In the current scheme of things, Avinya will be the pinnacle of Tata Motors’ EV tech. It will come with advanced autonomous driving tech like the one seen on Tesla. Tata Avinya platform is flexible and can spawn into SUVs, sedans / estates, crossovers, etc.Tata Electric Car ProductionTata Motors has had a great start to the year 2022. From breaking their own sales record to launching new cars, the Indian car brand is getting close on becoming the 2nd largest car maker in the country. With demand rising, and plans to launch multiple new cars, Tata Motors is all set to take over Ford India plant in Sanand.Tata Motors currently sells three electric cars Nexon EV, Tigor EV and XPRES-T. Total orders stand at an average of around 5,500-6,000 units each month. Tata Motors, currently operating at 85 percent capacity at its existing PV plants, seeks to commence production of its electric vehicle lineup from the Ford factory with a target of between 5-6 lakh cars in FY 2023. The compact and boxy urban runabout will be pitched as a last mile transport solution.Mahindra Atom electricThe Mahindra Atom was originally supposed to be launched sometime in the festive season 2021, but it looks that the lockdown has pushed the timeline by a few months. Despite the delay, the Atom is poised to become the first electric quadricycle in India. It will be competing with the Bajaj Qute which is currently available only with an IC engine. Bajaj Auto is working on an electric variant.Developed by Mahindra Electric, Atom was envisioned as an integral part of growing shared mobility apparatus in urban areas, feeding Metros and BRTS. However, the pandemic has tilted the balance heavily in favour of personal transport. It remains to be seen how Mahindra will market the Atom in this era where people are thinking twice before opting to use shared mobility solutions.Mahindra would be hoping to tweak its market strategy to target private buyers for the Atom electric but given that it was primarily conceived for shared mobility, pitching it as a compelling private mode of transportation would be easier said than done.Mahindra Atom Electric – Variants and SpecsMahindra Atom – Variants and SpecificationsAs can be seen in the above document, Mahindra Atom Electric has been homologated ahead of launch. Electrical energy consumption for K1 and K2 stands at 90 Wh / Km, while that for K3 and K4 is at 106 Wh / Km.Kerb weight of the Mahindra Atom ranges from 434 kgs to 458 kgs – depending on the variant. The door panels and wheel arches are devoid of padding or sound deadening material to keep the cost in check. The simple plastic dashboard has a utilitarian appeal to it and higher variants will offer AC. The Mahindra Atom electric will be equipped with 4G connectivity to enable easy bookings and payments for the ride. Test mules of the updated electric crossover have been spied testing on roads on multiple occasions in recent months. Recently, it was revealed that the updated Nexon EV would be launching on 11 May 2022.The homegrown carmaker is currently the leader of electric mobility in the passenger vehicle segment in India with two models under its umbrella- Nexon EV and Tigor EV. Ahead of its official launch next week, Tata Motors has announced the official name via teaser video. To be called NEXON EV MAX, select dealerships have started accepting unofficial bookings.Tata Nexon EV MAX Powertrain UpdatesThe new Tata Nexon MAX Electric with a more powerful battery pack will be sold alongside the current model. It is expected to receive minor cosmetic and feature enhancements over the regular model although there have been no specific details about any of those updates yet. Also, spy shots of test mules didn’t indicate any massive visual changes to the car’s exterior.Previous reports have indicated that the upcoming Nexon EV MAX will feature a larger 40kWh Lithium-ion battery pack that should offer a maximum range of around 400km on a single charge. At present, the battery-powered SUV features a 30.2kWh battery pack that is rated with a claimed mileage of 312km on a single charge. The new Nexon Max Electric should support fast charging for ease of convenience. Increase in power will be compensated by more braking power with disc brakes on rear wheels. Apart from new alloy wheel designs, there aren’t noticeable visual changes made to the exterior styling of Nexon EV.As for features, Tata Motors will continue to offer creature comforts like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, an electric sunroof, a semi-digital instrument cluster and automatic climate control.Tata Nexon Electric MAXFurther, it is also expected to witness some feature additions like electronic stability control, auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats, an air purifier and cruise control. He further revealed that the EV manufacturing firm started testing an autonomous vehicle nearly six months ago. Ola showcased the tech in the form of self-driving demo vehicle / modified golf cart.It featured an autonomous driving technology that comprised two Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) cameras, a video camera and GPS. It detected obstacles ahead, stopped for people and found its way around turns autonomously. The cart can be used in hospitals, malls, offices and public places and will be exported to overseas markets as well.While the technology is still in its initial stages of development, it can be considered as a concept vehicle on which future vehicles can be developed. The upcoming electric car is slated to make its global debut by the end of this year or early next year. Slokarth Dash, Head of Strategy and Planning at Ola Electric, has suggested that this upcoming electric car could be a sub-Rs 10 lakh offering.Ola Electric Car teaserEarlier this year, Ola took over a Pune-based geospatial services provider named GeoSpoc. This acquisition will help Ola Electric to build high-res maps that would prove to be useful in autonomous tech and is most likely to feature in the forthcoming electric four-wheeler.
