2024 Hyundai Kona Electric Battery, Range Specs Revealed

Unlike the Ioniq range of EVs based on e-GMP platform, updated Hyundai Kona is underpinned by a modified B-segment platform of its predecessor2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai and Kia are currently on the offensive where EVs are concerned. The duo are actively pushing ahead in EV space. With EV juggernauts like Tesla and BYD to beat, Hyundai and Kia have launched a slew of popular EVs. Ioniq 5 and Kia EV-6 are stark examples of this. Design of the new Kona EV was released late last year. Now, Hyundai has revealed official battery specs and range details of New Hyundai Kona Electric.
Just like its predecessor, Hyundai has not made Kona EV-only. At least for now. In this sense, Kona will spawn a ICE model and a strong hybrid model alongside an EV-only model. Underpinning this project, is a modified version of Hyundai’s B-segment platform enabling mounts for engine and also hybrid components. How better is it as opposed to its predecessor? Let’s take a look.
    2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
    New Hyundai Kona Electric Specs
New Gen Kona Electric comes with two battery pack options. The base variant gets a 48.4 kWh battery pack claiming to deliver a range of 342 kms on full charge. The top variant comes with a larger 65.4 kWh battery pack that delivers a drive range of 490 kms. Fast charging option is available. The bigger battery pack takes only 41 minutes to charge from 10-80% via fast charger.
Both battery pack options with new Kona get a front mounted electric motor. In the smaller battery pack option, the electric motor is rated to deliver 154 hp while with the larger battery pack you get 214 hp. Torque output has been kept at 255 Nm for both variants.
    2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
Speaking of India, we currently get a 39.2 kWh battery pack option with a claimed range of 452 km. If next gen Hyundai Kona EV is launched in India, it should boast a better range than outgoing model. Just like current Kona, the new one also comes with Vehicle-to-load capability. This means that you will be able to charge internal as well as external devices like home appliances using Kona EV.
    Design & Features
Hyundai has come up with a radical and geometric design for new Kona. With many of Hyundai’s designs, upgrades usually don’t feel organic and cohesive in capturing the essence of its predecessor. That is not the case with new Hyundai Kona. The parametric and pixel design philosophies combine to form a handsome-looking front.
Headlight and brake light elements are housed in separate pods, while LED light bars take the centre stage at both ends. They accentuate the width of new Kona. Speaking of, new gen Hyundai Kona is 5.5” (139.7mm) longer, 0.9” (22.86mm) wider and has a 2.3” (58.42mm) longer wheelbase over its predecessor.
    2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
The sharp lines and creases at the sides give it an athletic appeal. At the same time, flared wheel arches and undercuts behind its fenders add substantial muscle. There are smart-looking 5-spoke design alloy wheels and near the C-pillar, shoulder-line and roof-line merge to neatly form an X-insignia.
On the inside, Hyundai has used sustainable materials. The main attraction here are its dual 12.3” digital displays and a 12” HUD. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, NFC-enabled smartphone and smartwatch access digital key, ambient lighting, flat reclining electric front seats, Hyundai SmartSense ADAS tech, remote parking among many, are highlight features. The 29.2 kWh battery pack on Citroen eC3 is coupled with a electric motor developing 56 bhp and 143 Nm, enough to eek out 320 km of rangeCitroen C3 Electric Launch PriceAfter Citroen’s innings began in the entry segment with C3 hatchback, the French brand is now expanding its lineup to include an EV as well. This is Citroen’s maiden EV in India and the first French EV to hit our shores. Specs were out long ago and bookings had commenced too. Now, prices have been revealed. The affordable EV space is still quite young and Tata Motors has the most prominence. With Tiago EV, Tigor EV and Xpres-T, Tata Motors seems to have captivated both PV and CV segments. Citroen eC3 has to offer quite a lot to carve a piece of this pie.Citroen eC3 PricesCitroen eC3 has been launched with a price tag starting from Rs. 11.5 lakh (ex-sh) for base Live trim. Top-spec Feel trims with dual tone colour and Vibe Pack cost Rs. 12.43 lakh. When compared to its ICE counterpart, C3 hatchback, eC3 costs Rs. 5.52 lakh more with base variants and Rs. 5.23 lakh more with top-spec variants.Specs & features are almost identical with its ICE counterpart. We’re talking about the same design along with dimensions. This helps Citroen to reduce development costs and help price its products aggressively. But is it aggressive enough? Let’s take a look.Citroen C3 Prices – Petrol, Turbo, ElectricCitroen C3 Electric Prices vs Tiago EVIt primarily rivals Tata Tiago EV starting from Rs. 8.69 lakh (ex-sh) for 19.2 kWh battery pack variants, Rs. 10.19 lakh (ex-sh) for 24 kWh variants with 3.3 kW AC charger and Rs. 11.49 lakh (ex-sh) for 24 kWh battery pack variants with 7.2 kW AC charger. Tiago EV has four trim levels to choose from as opposed to two with eC3.Powertrain options are two along with two charger options. In total, Tiago EV spawns 7 variants. Whereas eC3 gets just one powertrain and two trim levels with cosmetic choices like dual tone and Vibe Pack. Right off the bat, it is immediately noticeable that Tiago EV comes with more options to choose from.  Tiago EV’s top-spec trim XZ+ Tech LUX with 24 kWh battery and 7.2 kW charger is just Rs. 49,000 more than Citroen eC3’s base variant.  Citroen C3 Electric vs Tata Tiago EV – PricesSpecs & FeaturesIt is safe to say that Tata has got the pricing right. Does Citroen eC3 offer more style and substance? Design is objective and hence depends on the buyer. But spec-wise, Citroen seems to be offering more. For starters, eC3 is 212mm longer, 56mm wider, and 50mm taller. It has a 140mm longer wheelbase, 4mm more ground clearance and a 75L larger boot than the Tiago EV.It has wider 195-section tyres wrapped to 15” wheels as opposed to 175-section with 14” wheels on Tiago EV. Powertrain-wise, eC3 offers 5.2 kWh more battery capacity and 29 Nm more torque than Tiago EV’s larger 24 kWh offering. Tiago EV hits back by making 18 bhp more and sprinting 1.1s quicker to 60 km/h. Tiago EV can hit 120 km/h as opposed to 107 km/h of eC3.Citroen C3 Electric vs Tata Tiago EV – SpecsRange tips slightly towards eC3’s favour with just a 5 km difference over Tiago EV’s 315 km. Citroen eC3 offers a larger 10.25” touchscreen as opposed to 7” unit on Tiago EV and also gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay system. There is decent competition between the two. It is yet to be seen how the market responds to this duo.Saurabh Vatsa, Brand Head, Citroen India, remarked, “We are excited to launch the New Citroen eC3 All-Electric for the young and progressive customers who will  enjoy the CLEVER, COMFORT & COOL product propositions. The vehicle was developed keeping in mind the Indian audience and their unique needs and preferences.Citroen C3 Electric vs Tata Tiago EV – SpecseC3 delivers a certified driving range of 320 km per charge (MIDC cycle), 100% DC fast charging capability, and a plethora of intuitive technology-driven features. With the famed Citroen Advanced Comfort on board combined with an efficient e-powertrain, we are certain that the New Citroen eC3 All-Electric will meet the expectations of both private customers’ and fleet operators.” More

Overall proportions and design details on the outside are retained as well.Sure, the test mule is rolling on steel wheels, but top-spec models will get alloys. If the Maruti Jimny is a miniature Mercedes-Benz G-Class, KiWi EV new crossover is a miniature Land Rover Defender 90, except for its iconic round headlight elements.Jimny Styled Mini Electric SUV SpiedEven on the inside, the twin horizontal display and dashboard layout remain true to its concept. Hyundai Creta Electric Spied For First Time – 2025 Launch Plan

A 100 kW electric motor and a battery big-enough for a 400+ km range should make for an interesting proposition for our marketHyundai Creta Electric SpiedHyundai India has kick-started its electric vehicle onslaught by launching the Ioniq 5 and showcasing Ioniq 6 at the Auto Expo last month. But the Korean automaker is also working on a more mainstream EV for our market. It was recently reported that Hyundai is working on an electric Creta crossover (codenamed SU2i EV) and an early prototype based on the conventional variant has been spotted for the first time in public.Automotive enthusiast Nitin Tyagi was charging his EV while the Hyundai Creta EV prototype stopped by for a recharge, and he promptly clicked these photos. There were a total of two test mules of the Hyundai Creta Electric. As you can see, the test mules do not have any camouflage but there is an easily noticeable protrusion from the floor pan which appears to be a structural member supporting the battery pack.2025 Hyundai Creta Electric SpiedConverting an in-production IC-engined car into a fully electric prototype is not a walk-in-the-park but Hyundai engineers and technicians seem to have done a pretty neat job. Save for the visible floor pan extension and different body panel colours, there is nothing on the exterior to suggest it is not a regular Creta. The production version is also expected to be based on the modified version of the current IC-engine platform. This approach will allow Hyundai to optimize cost since its almost fully localized. Tata has applied the same formula to Nexon EV, and Mahindra to XUV400.Hyundai Creta Electric SpiedThis will also help the automaker produce the vehicle with minimal modifications and investments to its existing assembly lines. However, in the long term, Hyundai India will localize its fully electric E-GMP architecture for both domestic and export markets.Hyundai Creta EV SpecsNot much is known about the specifications of the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV but we expect critical sub-systems to be derived from the Kona EV. That would mean a 100 kW (136 hp) PMSM electric motor with a peak torque output of 395 Nm of torque. The battery pack is also likely to be derived from the international sibling. With a capacity of 39.2 kWh, the lithium-ion polymer unit should be good for an ARAI-certified range of over 400 km. The Creta EV could be used with some significant aero optimizations over its IC-engined sibling to improve energy efficiency.Hyundai Creta Electric SpiedNew Hyundai Creta EV is expected to be ready for its global debut at the 2025 Auto Expo before going on sale later that year. Interestingly, the debut timeline is similar to its primary competitor Maruti YY8 electric SUV (codename). Expect the pricing to  be somewhere between Rs 20 to 30 lakh.Tata, Maruti, Mahindra and other OEMs will be aiming to position their volume-oriented electric crossovers in the same segment. That should make for an intense competition which will ultimately benefit the customers. We think Hyundai will easily attain its volume target of around 25,000 units per annum with its mid-premium EV offering. More

Entry-level electric PV segment is gaining traction with cars like Tata Tiago EV, Citroen C3 electric and upcoming Tata Punch EVNew MG Electric Car For IndiaWith huge unlocked potential in entry-level EV space, OEMs are looking to make early gains. A relevant example is MG Motor that is working on its 2-door mini electric car MG Air. It has been spotted on road tests multiple times, most recently near Baroda. Latest spy shots are credited to Digvijay Singh. At just 2,900 mm long, MG Air will not have any direct rival. Only possibility is Tata Nano electric, but its launch is not 100% sure. Assuming MG Air is affordably priced, it can go up against the likes of Tiago EV and Citroen eC3. MG Motor is likely to be aiming for a sub-10 lakh rupees price point for MG Air EV.MG Air EV featuresMG Air EV has a compact, tall boy design with large doors and windows. Front and rear windscreen are also sizeable, especially in proportion to the car’s compact dimensions. Users can expect roomy interiors and scenic views of the outside world. BYD Seal Electric India Website Goes LIVE – 700 Km Range

In top-spec version, BYD Seal comes with 530 bhp and 670 Nm dual motor configuration capable of sprinting 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 secondsBYD Seal Electric IndiaIf there is an EV company that probably can take on Tesla, it is definitely BYD. China’s BYD (Build Your Dreams) is one of the biggest EV makers in the world today. In India, they have two electric cars on offer currently. e6 MPV and Atto 3.After the successful launch of their first two cars, BYD is now getting ready to launch their 3rd car. At the 2023 Auto Expo, BYD showcased the Seal electric sedan. Now BYD Seal electric has made its debut on the company’s official India website. Does this mean launch is right around the corner? Let’s take a look.BYD Seal India Launch PlansBYD’s Indian website now features Seal electric sedan alongside e6 MPV and Atto 3 SUV. There is no mention of a launch timeline or pricing. We hope it is a hint at an imminent launch. But nothing is official yet. The headline figures include 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and 700 km of range from a single charge and a holy grail 50:50 weight distribution. This is possible with a large battery ranging from 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh. Motor configurations in global markets start from 204 bhp in RWD config and can be specced all the way to 530 bhp and 670 Nm in AWD config. If priced around Rs. 60 lakh (ex-sh), BYD Seal will rival Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia EV6 GT Line.BYD Seal Electric IndiaSpeaking about design BYD Seal seems to have taken inspiration from Porsche Taycan. This is visible in Seal’s LED headlight shape and an interesting air intake below it. In this air intake, we get LED DRLs which are in wire-frame form. Bonnet tapers down towards the front aggressively and features power bulges, lending it a chiseled look. There is air intake for battery cooling in the lower half of the front bumper. From the side, it comes off as a rather sporty 4-door coupe sedan with a sloping roofline.BYD SEAL Electric HighlightsThis sloping roofline doesn’t go all the way to the rear. Instead, it ends much earlier and lends BYD Seal a 3-box design attribute. It is a very interesting detail. Rolls-Royce adamantly swears by this 3-box design and even implemented it on Cullinan SUV. Other design features include stylish alloys and sharp creases that almost make it look German. With EV designs, it is always ‘form follows function’. This is to minimise air drag and extract as much range as possible. Speaking of air drag, BYD Seal boasts an air drag coefficient of just 0.219 Cd. It ain’t no Mercedes-Benz EQS at 0.2 Cd. But it is still impressive nonetheless. On the inside, there is minimalism of knobs and buttons.BYD Seal Electric IndiaA giant center touchscreen and a wide instrument screen dominate the interior. Seats get quilted patterns and extend to door pads as well. Windscreen and roof are separated unlike in Tesla vehicles. But BYD Seal gets a giant glass roof, which doesn’t open. BYD Seal EV features flush door handles and smart-looking LED tail lights. More
