Chery has extended its iCar lineup to incorporate V23 e-SUV which is set to launch soon. V23 is second vehicle falling under the iCar umbrella and is co-developed with Xiaomi’s subsidiary, Smartmi, which is also known as Zhimi Technology.Chery iCar V23 is around the same size as a Skoda Kushaq measuring 4,220 mm in length, 1,915 mm in width, 1,845 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,730 mm. Chery iCar V23 is considerably smaller than Chery’s own iCar 03 even thought it follows the same rugged boxy SUV design theme as iCar 03.You don’t have to be a genius to realise that Chery iCar V23 takes a lot of design inspiration from a now-discontinued SUV from a legacy car maker. We’re talking about Toyota’s legendary FJ Cruiser. Especially with those round headlights, wrap-around type LED DRLs / turn indicators, off-road bumpers and more.Chery iCar V23At the side, design inspiration from FJ Cruiser gets even more evident with the way windshield angle is positioned, chunky ORVMs and a rather thick C-pillar. Unlike FJ Cruiser, this thick C-pillar on Chery iCar V23 extends to its rear, creating a giant blindspot. Rear is not as heavily inspired as FJ Cruiser. Instead of a spare wheel, V23 tailgate gets a storage box for aesthetics.Off-road CredentialsOn the inside, shallow and flat dashboard gets dual-tone treatment. The giant central display grabs all the attention and there are quite a few knobs and toggle switches for crucial functions like climate control. The three-spoke steering wheel gets dual-tone treatment and is wrapped in leather. Interestingly, rear bench seat only has two seats despite having 1,915 mm width.Chery iCar V23 DashboardChery has ensured iCar V23 is a proper off-road-worthy machine. RWD versions promise a 42° approach angle and a 40° departure angle along with a 206 mm ground clearance. The 4WD variant promises a 43° approach and 41° departure angles along with 212 mm ground clearance.Wheel size options include either 19-inchers or 21-inchers. Powertrains are not fully out. Rumour mill suggests an 80 kWh CATL battery pack with 4WD variant and a smaller battery with RWD variant. Honda’s new Ye EV range introduced in China has P7 and S7 SUVs and a GT Concept sedan. More models will be added to the Ye EV lineup in the coming years. The crossover SUVs are expected to go on sale in China by the end of 2024.New Honda Ye Electric SUVIn comparison, the GT Concept previews a new EV sedan that is expected to be launched by the end of 2025. Honda’s new EVs for China will be manufactured and sold by the company’s local partners – Dongfeng Honda and GAC Honda.Honda P7 and S7 SUVsExcluding the front fascia and rear profile, Honda P7 and S7 SUVs are almost identical. Some of the key highlights include sculpted bonnet, polygonal fenders, flush-type pop-out door handles, blacked-out pillars, side view cameras, raked rear windshield, shark fin antenna and roof mounted spoiler. Even the alloy wheels are the same for P7 and S7 crossover SUVs. Both SUVs get the new Honda logo at front, along with spaced out HONDA lettering at rear.New Honda Ye Electric SUV – P7However, both SUVs have unique styling at front and rear. P7 has a relatively sober design for the front fascia. It has conventional C-shaped elements and similar styled tail lamps. On the other hand, Honda S7 has a quirkier profile. It gets distinctive X-shaped lighting at the front.New Honda Ye Electric SUV – S7At the rear, S7 has H-shaped lighting profile. P7 and S7 have unique front and rear bumpers. The charging port is installed on the front fenders of both SUVs. Inside, Honda P7 and S7 share the same set of equipment. Some of the key highlights include a large touchscreen in portrait format, a digital instrument display and a flattened steering wheel.The SUVs will have AI-based voice control systems. Another interesting feature is illuminated dashboard and door panels that will light up according to specific functions. While hardware specs have not been revealed, it is expected that Honda P7 and S7 will be available in both rear- and all-wheel drive formats.New Honda Ye Electric SUVHonda GT ConceptSpecific features of GT Concept such as the X-shaped lighting at front are similar to that of S7. The same is true for the taillight graphics. Honda GT Concept has a sporty profile, with features such as deep fender air vents. Other exciting features include a split rear windscreen and Formula 1-style rear fog light. Inside, the Honda GT Concept has an opulent red and black colour theme. Users can expect a fully digital experience, with around 6 screens. It includes a unique touch-based gear selector.For the Chinese market, Honda has plans to launch six Ye EV models by 2027. In addition, there will be the e:NP1 and e:NS1. These are China-spec versions of the e:N1. There are two more EVs in the works, but details are not available.       Electric Car Sales FY24 Vs FY23 – Nexon, Comet, XUV400, eC3, Ioniq5, EV6, Atto3

      New Tata Nexon EVElectric car retail sales in FY24 grew by an astronomical 91.37% with every car manufacturer posting double and triple digit growthAs per data released by Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the electric car segment March 2024 has recorded a total of 90,996 unit retail sales in FY2024. This was a 91.37% growth over 47,551 units sold in FY2023 relating to a volume growth of 43,445 units. Several factors have led to this astronomical increase. While awareness among buyers has greatly intensified, favourable government incentives coupled with an overall advancement in battery technologies along with the setting up of charging stations at strategic locations, have all played a major part in this growth.Electric Car Retail Sales FY2024 – Tata Motors LeadsTata Motors, with a healthy lineup of electric cars among which are the Tiago, Tigor, Punch and Nexon, led the electric passenger vehicle sales with 64,217 units thus witnessing a year-on-year YoY) growth of 65.82%. In FY2023, there had been 38,728 units sold relating to a volume growth of 25,489 units. Currently commanding a lion’s market share of 70.57%, the company’s electric vehicle lineup is set to be enhanced by the new Curvv EV while testing continues for the Harrier and Safari EVs as well.Electric Car Retail Sales FY 2024At No. 2 was MG Motor with 11,611 unit retail sales in the electric vehicle segment that currently comprises the Comet and ZS. These two models are priced from Rs 6.99-25.08 lakh (ex.sh) and led the company to a triple digit 155.19% YoY growth from 4,550 units sold in FY2023. Set to expand their EV lineup, there is the new MG Cloud EV out on test runs and is expected to be launched during the festive season later this year.Posting the most remarkable YoY growth was Mahindra with a 1151.75% improvement to 6,071 units sold in FY2024 up from 485 units sold in FY2023. Mahindra has a sole offering in this segment with the XUV400 priced from Rs 15.49-19.39 lakh. Mahindra also plans to enhance their EV portfolio and promises a total of 5 electric cars over coming years. It has started testing the new XUV.e9 which was spotted with a first in segment triple screen dashboard.Electric Car Retail Sales FY 2024In the electric vehicle segment is also the Citroen eC3 priced at Rs 11.61-13.35 lakh (ex.sh). It has seen elevated retail sales of 2,032 units in FY2024, up 872.25% when compared to 209 units sold in FY2023. Hyundai retail sales in the electric car segment has also seen outstanding growth up 128.91% to 1,829 units in FY2024 from just 799 units sold in the same period a year ago. There is the Kona and Ioniq5 in this segment that are being offered in a price range of Rs 23.84-45.95 lakh (ex.sh).BYD has an interesting lineup of electric cars in India with the E6, Atto3 and Seal priced from Rs 29.15-53 lakh. Retail sales in FY2024 grew by 61.86% to 1,774 units, up from 1,096 units sold in FY2023. Kia has the EV6 on offer in India. Retail sales of Kia electric cars in India were at 429 units for FY 2024, which is a 36% YoY growth.Electric Car Retail Sales FY2024 in Luxury SegmentBMW led the luxury segment in terms of electric car retail sales in FY2024. An innovative lineup that includes the iX1, i4, iX and i7, has accounted for sales of 1,420 units relating to an impressive 260.4% YoY growth over 394 units sold in FY2023. This was a significant difference of 1,026 units on a YoY basis.Volvo electric vehicle retail sales also surged by 305.44% YoY to 596 units in FY2024 from 147 units sold in FY2023. The company’s XC40 and C40 are priced between Rs 74.5 lakh to 2.45 crores (ex.sh). Retail sales list of electric cars also included Mercedes (562 units), Audi (164 units) and Porsche (113 units) each of which have seen outstanding YoY improvement in sales. There were others in this list that saw retail sales dip 56.05% to 178 units in FY2024 from 405 units sold in the same period last year. More
